Tidal is the last of 4 books in the fast paced Christian Fantasy series by Sofia Simpson.

I read and enjoyed the whole Elemental series (including the novella, which takes place somewhere between book 2 and 3 and features Kane and Elia, Vela’s brother and best friend, as main characters and love interests). I wrote rather lengthy reviews for all previous 3 full length novels and what the whole series has in common is that all books got me hooked pretty quickly!

The stakes are high, the action and suspense scenes are done extremely well throughout the whole series. Tidal is not the most action packed book of the series - actually I was surprised that the focus of this final book wasn’t on battle scenes and fight or flight situations - but it was definitely gripping and intense and Vela, Linc and the whole group are facing a seemingly impossible situation.

The faith element is so strong throughout this series and I love that God is not a side character in these books or these characters' lives. All main characters have wonderful faith arcs and redemption stories. They learn to rely on and fully trust God and know that their strength comes from Him alone.

If you read my reviews for the previous books you will see that I had my problems with the main character Vela and also with the whole Intended Bond. For the latter I have to say that this is simply an element I will probably never like. (I read at least 4 books with fated bonds in the last 3 months and it always diminishes my enjoyment of the romance while also raising questions like how would this work in real life…)
But this is one of the premises of the books and Sofia did an amazing job of considering possibilities and caring for different people’s feelings and conflicting emotions.

When it comes to Vela I’m glad to say that she definitely redeemed herself in my eyes.
It probably doesn't come as a surprise that I still loved Linc the most. How humble he is, how he gives everything to God, how caring, forgiving, thoughtful and respectful (not only towards Vela) and especially how he was accepted into both Vela's family. If anyone deserves a loving family, it's him! He is such an amazing character, can’t say this enough!
But I also loved how appreciative Vela became - of Linc, of her parents, of all her supporters and most of all that she understood that it was a blessing to be chosen by God and that He's always by her side.
Rayne also really grew as a character and - minor spoiler - how Linc was the one pointing him to Jesus was extra special! - end spoiler -

While this is still a clean romance and all the books are technically YA, I think the last one increased in the physical intimacy and lustful thoughts department. It is dealt with responsibly and aware of how easily we can slip up, but I personally would not give this book to young teens. There is just a bit too much kissing and sexual desire for my personal taste to be comfortable recommending this to my daughters before they are a bit older. Of course this depends a lot on the individual teenager and I didn’t even want to try to give a specific age. I will see when the time comes how old I think they should be. Just know Vela is still 17 in the book, but - very minor spoiler - the physical attraction between Vela and Linc is so strong, that they marry at this age. Their desire and fear of not honoring God’s wishes because of a lack of self control is the main reason for their rushed wedding. I can respect that without really wanting my children to see this as a great example, let alone follow it. - end spoiler -
Still looking forward to giving these books to my girls someday and recommend the whole series 100% if you’re an adult loving YA books.

I absolutely loved this journey with Vela and Linc. It’s an amazing fantasy series with characters who are wonderful to begin with or have incredible character arcs. It’s full of gripping adventure and strong faith themes. So everything you could wish for in a Christian YA Fantasy!

And as a side note - I would definitely read it if Steele got his own little novella sometime. He sure does deserve a HEA!

* I had the great privilege to beta read Tidal. Thank you Sofia for trusting me with your book!
I was not asked to write a review. I do this voluntarily because I absolutely love this series and the expressed opinions are my own.
