Tired of being the one everyone leaned on. Tired of being the go-to person when someone needed help. Tired of always being the one who would answer the phone at 3 a.m., ready to fix someone else’s problems. And what do I get in return? Nothing. No one’s ever there when I need them. The weight of carrying everyone else’s burdens broke me down. But what shattered me completely was Soren Shaw. When I needed him—just that one time—I needed him to be my best friend, to stand by me, to defend me when it mattered most. And he didn’t. That betrayal sparked something in me I hadn’t felt before. A deep, seething anger. It didn’t just burn, it consumed me. And with it came the hunger for revenge. So when I saw Soren Shaw’s name come across my desk, a hit meant for him, I didn’t hesitate. I embraced the opportunity like it was meant to be. The journey to revenge isn’t quick or clean, but the thought of Soren meeting his end? That’s something I’ll savor. Because when his time comes, I won’t just be the one who got even—I’ll be the devil waiting for him.
Soren Shaw
When I met Gwendolyn Osiris through my sister, I never could have imagined she’d be the one to rip apart the last defenses I had. Years have passed, each one filled with torment over how things ended, but now, it’s time to set things straight. Raelynn and Arwan? Just pawns. They’ve been caught in the crossfire of something much bigger. Gwendolyn might think she’s untouchable, but she’ll soon come to understand the stakes—and what’s waiting for her. I’ve never been one to cling to grudges, never been one to dwell on someone’s downfall, but she’s different. She has always had a special place in the coldest, darkest part of my heart. After all this waiting, there’s no going out quietly. If this is going to end, it’s going to end in flames, and she’ll finally see just how far I’m willing to go.
D.A. Willows enjoys writing retellings of Greek Mythology, dark romance, and many other things. More recently, she has been working on her debut series, Gods Be Damned. D.A. enjoys spending time with her husband and dogs when she isn't writing. She also enjoys fantasizing about many book boyfriends.
It was okay I think it could have been shorter and could have had more to it. I almost stopped reading it I got uninterested. For the most part most of the action is ch 19 and till the end.
Not sure this book can be called a romance, but it certainly has lots of plots and sub-plots. You don't know who the bad guys are or if there are any good guys!
Soren and Gwen have a complicated history, full of regrets and recriminations and in the process their friends are sucked in.
The background is about gun running, drugs and a corrupt government.
Gwen starts to take revenge on Soren when all this drama comes to a head, so her revenge plans have to take a backseat.
Read this book, you will enjoy it, but be warned, the story doesn't end here.
I found this to be a strange book from the very start. I think it was somewhat of a power game. Couldn't work out if they were friends or enemies. Then, to top it all off it ends in a cliff hanger
This book was not at all what I expected. It had twists and turns and I didn't know who to trust. It kept you guessing. A great story line and kept you one the edge of your seat. Can't wait for the next one to see what happens next!

A fabulous mystery that unfurls with a side of romance. The plot thickens the further into the plot you go and a cliff hanger means I need the next book!.

Author's Note: Buckle up, because this isn’t your typical tale of revenge—this is a raw, unapologetic exploration of betrayal and the burning desire to reclaim what’s been lost.
Gwendolyn Osiris isn’t your average heroine. She’s the one who’s always been there, the shoulder to cry on, the fixer of problems, the listener at 3 a.m. But guess what? She’s had enough. The cracks in her facade deepen with each call she answers, and when her best friend Soren Shaw shatters her trust, the spark ignites into an inferno. You can practically feel the heat radiating off the pages as Gwendolyn transforms from the reliable friend to a fierce force of nature, ready to exact her vengeance.
And let me tell you, the journey is nothing short of exhilarating. The way she embraces that hit meant for Soren? Delicious. Every twisted plot and emotional upheaval brings her closer to her breaking point, and I couldn’t help but root for her—yes, even as she edges closer to becoming the devil herself. The anticipation of Soren’s demise fuels the narrative with a tantalizing energy that kept me writing pages long into the night.
Now, let’s talk about Soren Shaw. Oh, the complexity of this man! He’s not just a villain; he’s a reflection of Gwendolyn’s pain. Years of torment? Yes, please! He holds a special place in the cold, dark corners of my heart, and I can’t help but revel in his agony as Gwendolyn inches closer to her revenge. He’s haunted, he’s regretful, and just when he thinks he can shake off the past, Gwendolyn comes barreling in like a whirlwind.
Their chemistry is electric, and every encounter crackles with tension. This isn’t just about revenge; it’s about unraveling the threads of their intertwined fates. Will they destroy each other or find a way to rebuild? The stakes couldn’t be higher.
So if you’re ready for a rollercoaster of emotions, power struggles, and a heroine who refuses to stay down, The Devil Herself is your next obsession. Just remember: when you open this book, you’re diving into a world where love and vengeance collide in the most spectacular way. Enjoy the ride!
This was a hard one to think of a proper rating for. I am sitting between 2.75 and 3 stars. I did like the story and think there is potential for it but there could be more. The concept of the story line is what obviously caught my attention and as I read through it, it did peak my interest even more. I do want to know what happens next, and this could be part of the fact it ended on a cliff hanger. Soren and Gwen have a shady past which is the basis for the story and I do love a good hate to love couple but for the first 50% of the story I was having a hard time following what was going on. There was titled chapters but I still had to go back to see who the chapter was suppose to be coming from because some times it felt like it was the other half. The characters do fall flat and definitely need more meat to them. Around the 60% mark the story does pick up and you get more background fill in's which helped to build the characters alittle better. The concept is good but is choppy and hard to follow. I did enjoy the late to the game surprise and this is the reason I would look for the second book to read so I can see how it rolls out. I had several issues with this book and got about half way before putting it down. I felt like it talked in circles and described the same thing in like 100 different ways just to fill space. The characters are all very unlikeable and almost had cartoon like dialogue with each other using the most cheesy lines. I also found there was no context. Like ages, location or timeline. There were also some descriptions of the characters that varied. Like the description of Levi’s hair is described as auburn and then later described at blonde. Overall, it was a DNF for me.

DNF! Entirely too repetitive!!! The author said the exact same sentence 10 times just different ways all throughout the book. I gave up. I did like the storyline though and wish I could have gotten through the book. 🤷♀️

From the author- Caution: This book does end on a cliff hanger. Please read the trigger warnings before proceeding. Gwendolyn Osiris, the fixer of problems, wants revenge. Revenge against Soren Shaw. Her ex best friend Soren Shaw was not there when she needed him most. The internal turmoil she faces is relatable to anyone who's ever been burned by someone they trusted. The Devil Herself grips you from start to finish. Its heart pounding action will keep you turning pages, excited to see what happens next.
'The Devil Herself' is a very good book. I have rated this book 3.5 stars and it could have been a solid 4 star read. However, the volume of description occasionally felt excessive, causing the narrative to become repetitive at times. A bit of trimming could enhance its pacing. That said, I enjoyed the storytelling and found the cliffhanger gripping. I will certainly be picking up the next book in the series.

this had that concept that I was looking for in this type of story, it had that enemy to lover perfectly. The characters had that overall feel that I was hoping for and enjoyed the way they worked in this. D.A. WIllows has a great writing style and left me wanting to read more in this series and author.

The Devil Herself delivers a dark, searing tale of betrayal, revenge, and unquenchable rage. Gwendolyn, once the dependable rock for everyone around her, has reached her breaking point. Her deep, raw anger after Soren Shaw's betrayal is palpable, and her path to vengeance is a brutal one. The internal turmoil she faces is relatable to anyone who's ever been burned by someone they trusted. This is more than just a quest for revenge—it’s a reckoning with the parts of herself she lost along the way.
Soren Shaw is just as complex, wrestling with years of regret and the consequences of his actions. His perspective adds a crucial layer to the narrative, creating an intense game of power and emotion between him and Gwendolyn. Their dynamic crackles with tension, and Soren’s own inner darkness sets up a story where the lines between hero and villain blur entirely.
The book doesn’t shy away from its grit. With betrayal, high stakes, and the consuming nature of wrath, The Devil Herself grips you from start to finish. It's a heart-pounding, emotional ride where nothing is what it seems, and nobody walks away unscathed.
BE ADVISED: this book does end off on a cliff hanger. I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
