Tells the story of a Christian family caught in the persecutions of Rome, and how their lives interesected with the apostle John as he received the book of Revelation on the island of Patmos, otherwise known as Devil's Island.
Pastor John Hagee and his wife Diana reach out and spread Christ's message throughout the Northern Hemisphere. They reside in San Antonio, Texas with their five adult children, their spouses and grandchildren.
Paster John Hagee is a scholar, musician, athlete, evangelist, and above all, a pastor with a pastor's heart. A fourth-generation preacher in the tradition of his father and grandfathers before him, Pastor Hagee not only shepherds the 17, 000 member, nondenominational Cornerstone Church in San Antonio, Texas, he is pastor to other pastors around the country.
John Hagee Ministries produces three television programs. Cornerstone is a weekly broadcast of the Sunday morning service at Cornerstone Church. John Hagee Today is a teaching program aired Monday through Friday. SundayNightLive is a live-via-satellite broadcast of the Sunday evening service from Cornerstone Church that can be seen in over 93 million homes.
Author to several books, Pastor Hagee is a dynamic conference speaker whose straightforward style of preaching, laced wit humour, brings refreshing biblical insight to contemporary problems.
John Hagee, a well known pastor, is quite a good writer!
This is a historical novel about Christians under persecution during the first century AD. Devil's Island refers to Patmos.
The fictional story will definitely keep you reading on, and the historical setting is apparently quite accurate. You'll learn a lot, as well as see parallels in the time in which we're living now.
I really enjoyed this story. There's a bit of a coincidence with Damian always turning up, and sometimes can seem anachronistic (i.e., "we'll just get the bank account transferred to your name.") But overall I found it interesting and exciting. The book uses several flashbacks; fortunately they were easy to follow and not did distract from the flow of the story. I was surprised at a couple scenes the author chose to skip - a medic's conversion, a birth - but the author kept the story flowing along well. I was reminded of Francine River's "Mark of the Lion" series, certainly because of the book's time setting but also because Julia and Naomi are similiar. I would have chosen a different name for Naomi, which to me sounds like a peaceful, home-like character but that's just me.
I had the privilege of owning this book when it first came out. This was supposed to be a 7 series novel. However, it turned in to a 2 series novel. This is an excellent novel. I also had the privilege to read the 2nd installment entitled, The Avenger of Blood. Excellent as well. It's a pity that Pastor Hagee was not able to turn this into a seven part series. This book would make a great movie.
I was originally shocked that Preacher John Hagee wrote a series of 2 books! They are both very well written and actually could have been what it was like during John's life after Christ. No one knows what happened during the 1st century after Christ's ascension. I just wish you all would have the 2nd in the series available on Kindle.
A wonderful historical Christian fiction. I read the book 2, Avengers of blood five years ago and absolutely loved it and I’ve been searching for the book 1 Devils Island for such a long time. I wished Pastor John Hagee had completed this 7 books series.
