I actually didn't completely hate this. While I do wish it was longer so I could connect more with the MC, I believe the disconnect was necessarily in consuming this😃 The smut was mid and purely written for shock value, trust me its obvious, but it wasn't totally horrible.

4.5 ⭐️ This was a great novella for Halloween that I had such a fun time with!
We follow Jeremiah as he goes to a party with his friends on Halloween-night. And of course there is someone that want's to have fun with a Oujii-board (which "shockingly" doesn't go as planned). When Jeremiah's roommate suddenly starts giving him some unexpected attention, he understands that something is not as it seems... This novella was such a good time, and I couldn't put it down. It is taking the reader for a ride from the first page to the last, and it was such a fun one to be on! There is a lot of steamy smut, violence, spooky vibes and hot demons, so if that is something you like, this is the novella for you!
Can't wait to read more books like this from Shae Ruby, and a huge thank you to the author for giving me an ARC for this book!

This is a dark MM, demon/human romance where a demon summoning goes wrong following the use of an ouija board. The players never said “goodbye” to the board, keeping the demon present. It then takes over our MMCs roommates body. It’s a bit of a rollercoaster from there and boy was it SPICY. If you’re looking for a fun, dark, MM novella, this is a great choice. 🖤

November 3, 2024Sadly this didn’t hit for me. I never really connected with either MC, the story itself felt kind of disjointed, and it very quickly felt like a chore. Plus the sex felt flat to me…
Also, I’m 99% sure when I signed up for an ARC, it said “if your review is 3 or less or dnf, then please wait 2 weeks” but when I got the email with the arc it said “if it’s anything but a 5 please wait 2 weeks or you will be banned. You agreed to this.” Let me tell you, I have NEVER in my life agreed to that, but of course I don’t have a screenshot of that sign up. Cause I didn’t think I needed it. But this did not help my enjoyment of the book going in, let me tell you. I should have just taken the ban, cause I’m even more annoyed about it now.

WOW 💀 I did not know what to expect from this book, but it was so freaking good! I've never read a paranormal-type romance before, and I really enjoyed it! The spice was so SO good 🔥 I just loved everything about it! My first read from Shae Ruby but definitely not my last!

Okay wow! I’m usually not a fan of any paranormal / demon smut (to be fair if they were all like this I would probably read more of them 😮💨) but this book was ALL SPICE, and it all started with a good ol Ouija Board.
After Kaelin is summoned by a couple of young college kids playing a game they know nothing about, he takes up a fascination with my boy Jeremiah.
These two basically get it on for the entirety of the book with a lotttt of🩸 Play, Primal Play, Crawl To Me, 🍆Warming, 💦 Play, and much much more.
This book is absolutely filthy and perfect for Spooky SZN. It had ALL the makings of a delicious MM horror movie (porno? 😂) and who would have thought I’d find a demon with a forked tongue and tail kinda hot? But here we are, friends. Anything is possible in a book!
Please check TWs before reading, as some topics may be difficult for you to read.
Overall, if you appreciate this for what it is, Paranormal MM Demon Smut, with little plot, very dark and very spooky? You’ll enjoy the crap out of it. It’s a quick read, and I enjoyed every word.

This is why I only gave it 1 star: the smut is unhinged and mainly there to shock you. (That's the good part.) Whereas there's no character growth and no development in the storyline. (Is there even a storyline?) You are also not really introduced to the characters which therefore doesn't really allow you to identify with them.

If you’re looking for your next Halloween themed read look no further! But make sure to check those trigger warnings bc this definitely had some horror movie vibes that may not be up everyone’s alley! If you’re into everything I mentioned then run to read this novella asap!

I wanted something short and dark - this was IT.
It was not the best book ever, but overall I loved it. I’m in some strange MM romance hole, and its fine here.
This review will not be long, thanks to two reasons. First - I didn’t wrote the review right after finishing the book. Second - its really short book and there is not much to say. Like I said it was good. It was hot and twisted, and honestly want more about them. I really fell for this demon and it’s really possible that I will look for some horror dark romance, becasue I like the horror element in this one. The killing and also the soft side of the demon. I willl always love demons with soft side.

You can pretty much guess the premise from there; the sex is hot, the gore is campy, and Kaelin (the demon) is delightfully possessive of Jeremiah. All the spooky Halloween vibes you could honestly want during this month!
I really liked Shae’s previous Halloween novella from last year (Unhallowed), so this is a cute and spicy little treat to hold us all over till she releases the follow-up to that one! It’s obvious she’s found her niche with writing, specifically in the MM space, definitely looking forward to whatever she’s writing or working on next

After Jeremiah and his friends end up in a room where two girls are attempting to summon spirits via an Ouija board, Jeremiah finds himself entangled with someone he thinks he knows but this person is actively being possessed by our demon, Kaelin. Overall, this book is 100% er0tic@. Yes there is sort of an underlying plot, but the main theme of the book is p0ssession & s3x. If you’re going into this thinking it’ll be similar to Unhallowed (Shae’s other novella-unrelated worlds) or have insane character development…you’re in the wrong place. 🤣 You read this for the vibes and the spice!!! 🥵
Characters
This story features Jeremiah, the quarterback to the football team at the University of Alabama, and Kaelin. Kaelin is a demon who was summoned and has taken over Jeremiah’s roommate’s body. I appreciated Jeremiah’s lack of shame surrounding his preferences. I ALWAYS love dark romance vibes in characters and Kaelin is dark romance embodied. He is pitch black, not morally grey. However, I felt like Jeremiah did not seem to care or have reasonable fear for what was happening, appropriate sadness for the loss of his friends, or even a realistic reaction to doing certain things for the first time. Kaelin was fun to read and I loved his possessive nature (pun intended) and the soft spot he had for Jeremiah!
Romance
The spice was spicing okay! If you want a super short and smvtty novella LOOK NO FURTHER! It was HAWT and I’m a fan of dark subject matter and more…rough smvt so this was right up my alley in the s3x department.
Overall
All in all, while I enjoyed this, I always expect Shae’s books to make me FEEL a certain way. I expect some kind of heartstring tug, a little bit more character development, a little bit more of a world that evokes some kind of excitement. I will say, if you are new to Shae’s books and you’re in this for the spice you WILL like this. 🥰

In Summoned, we have all the tropes from those classic 90s horror movies we loved so much.
Dark romance and all the smut. Sexy as hell. A possessive, toxic, depraved romance. The tone and pace are non-stop. Easy to read but don't expect a super complex plot, we're here to enjoy the chemistry between Jeremiah and Kaelin, you know what I mean? 😏
100% recommended for a Halloween read.
If you're still on the fence about reading this book, I'll just say two more things: forked tongue and tail. You're taking too long to read.🤣😈

Dark romance y todo el smut del bueno. Sexy como la mierda. Un romance posesivo, tóxico, depravado. Un tono y un ritmo que no decae. Fácil de leer pero no esperes una grandísima trama, aquí se viene a disfrutar de la química entre Jeremiah y Kaelin, tú ya me entiendes.
100% recomendado como lectura para Halloween.

In Summoned, we have all the tropes from those classic 90s horror movies we loved so much.
Dark romance and all the smut. Sexy as hell. A possessive, toxic, depraved romance. The tone and pace are non-stop. Easy to read but don't expect a super complex plot, we're here to enjoy the chemistry between Jeremiah and Kaelin, you know what I mean? 😏
100% recommended for a Halloween read.
If you're still on the fence about reading this book, I'll just say two more things: forked tongue and tail. You're taking too long to read.🤣😈

For all my slasher lovers, i have a book for you! This book was INSANE absolutely unhinged and I loved every second of it. Also if you're worried about adding to you TBR this is a novella! That means when you immediately download it you shouldn't feel bad about skipping all the other books 🤭
OK so this is going to be a bare bones explanation of the plot because I don't want to give anything away. Basically the MMC, Jeremiah, is the quarterback for the football team and he is going to a Halloween party were his on again off again girlfriend and his friends decide to pull out a Ouija board and it goes so far left. Thats it, that's all you get.
When I tell you I had no idea what direction this book was going at any given point. The other MMC was insane, jealous, possessive, over the top, and fun. Just so much fun. Had me laughing at things that were definitely not supposed to be funny. This is such a good book to get you into the spooky season with slashing but without anything too serious or too scary.
I almost forgot to include the spice. There was a ton of spice and the spice was so good, it was exactly what I would want/expect for the situation plus all the characters except for maybe one were really open to the idea of the quarterback getting with another guy and I really liked that.
If you read the triggers I did say that there was orphan discrimination, as a fellow orphan I was kidding low-key but they do talk about being an orphan and that can make you sad but trust me what comes after will have the pep right back in your step!

Jeremiah has his first MM encounter in the middle of mayhem but Shae still takes time with his reaction and realization. The same can be said for Kaelin and his change in usual feelings and actions.
If you enjoy a quick, dark and disturbed love story with a twist you absolutely have to get this book!

Oh Shae Ruby, your books continue to captivate my mind and invade my soul. Summoned is a terrific spooky season novella with just the right amount of gore and the perfect amount of delectable space. I enjoyed the character development very much and the evolution of their relationship is so satisfying. Sucked in the from very beginning I did not want this story to end. So many kinky, sexy, passionate moments beautifully written along with the suspenseful dark twisted violence. Is their relationship dark toxic and depraved? Yes it is. Did I love it? Oh yes, yes I did. This is a very fast read that any dark, paranormal, romance reader will love. Definitely check the trigger warnings to ensure this book is right for you

I love this dark paranormal MM romance novella, Shae created a scary new world full of scary kinky stuff lol. Shae did such a great job of creating a quick novella where we get so much in a story that you can't help but want more.
I love the plot. Shae did such a great job of creating a plot full of mystery, hunting moments, and best of a chemistry between the characters that was out of this world. Even though it was a fast read, the story doesn't feel rushed, if anything I truly wish to read more. Definitely a must read if you want something scary but not terrifying. Also the playlist is to die for. This is a must read novella!

Forgetting to say goodbye to the ouija board after playing is a major no-no. Jeremiah and his friends learn that the hard way, unfortunately. Tragedy after tragedy happens all while Jer thinks he’s having secret rendezvous with his roommate.
Kaelin is the demon that was summoned and zeroes in on Jer. He creates chaos for the friend group leaving Jeremiah to wonder what the heck is happening and who’s next on the agenda.
Summoned was a short and spicy novella perfect for in between longer reads.
Shae always brings the heat and Summoned was no exception!

This book went by quick and kept me very entertained with the secrets, mürdër, and spice. I really wish this would have been a full book!
