Cruel Devotion

Rate this book
A woman forced into an engagement...
Ripped from my bed, my loved ones in pieces,
I'm dragged through the forest, bound in chains.
Soon, I'll find where the lines of sanity blur.
But I won't go down without a fight.

A monster, undeserving of love...
I'd once been a man, but now lived as a beast.
Scouring the lands for virgins, I rarely make it home without a bite.
Distracted by a sweet scent, I find someone unworthy.
I'm keeping her.

A man, more monstrous than his brother...
I was the real wolf in sheep's clothing.
And I loved and lived for no one but him.
When he brings home a bunny, I can't help but have a taste.
Mine.

The book opens with the MMC raping and eating a young woman. He likes to hunt and rape/murder virgins. He literally rips her head off and eats her while he’s still inside her. He refers to her friend who is supposed to be his next virginal victim as child so I assume they are teenagers. He then rips apart the FMCs family and kidnaps her from her bed, leaving her little brother to find their parents corpses the next morning when he wakes up alone.

He rapes the FMC in the woods. The author calls this “non consent” and “consensual non consent” in the Content Warnings but it is straight up rape. He then locks her in a cage where his brother finds her and HE rapes her and then they rape her together until she gets a serious case of stock-home and decides she likes it. The author seems to think if the FMC is forced to orgasm then it’s consensual.

Also there is incest. The brothers f**k each other. This is the grossest book i have ever read. I skimmed to the end hoping there might be some groveling, some apologizing, some after care, some character growth. Nope. The book is too short for that. It’s just rape, eating people, torture and more rape. Honestly, her fiancé was an a-hole but he was Prince Charming next to the two MMCs.

I honestly have no idea how to rate this, but it wasn't for me. I do love a good monster romance and I'm ok with gore, but incest isn't my thing. I read all the trigger warnings at the beginning and it was described as MFM, but then had incest also written. So this should have been advertised as taboo MMF instead. There really isn't any plot from beginning to end. The only reason I downloaded it was because of the next book in the series which is Etta Pierce's. I thought it would be relevant to read this first, but there seems to be zero relation. It's just monster smut, and the human girl was their toy mate basically. Twin wolves who have had relations in the past and still get each other off orally. The h Eloise is apparently their mate, but the story made next to no sense to be honest. Twin Ryder seems to be in love with his brother Darius. While Darius is obsessed with Eloise. Overall wish I passed.

Safety: MMF, incest, gore, rape, public sex

Spice: 4 🌶️

Read if you like:
Monster MMCs
MMF
Kidnapping
Non-Con
Touch Her and 💀

This cover drew me in like a mouth to a flame. With a laundry list of trigger warnings - read at your own risk 🚫

Eloise might start off stuck in an arranged marriage with a creep but she soon finds herself kidnapped by a beast. To her surprise she finds herself at the hands of not one but TWO beasts.

I LOVED both the MMCs!! Their story is dark but they’ve come out the other side… maybe a bit twisted but they made it.

This book packed a whole lot of SPICE that was HOT.

The ending was so satisfying and made me love the beats even more.

I can’t wait for the next one in this series!! Gimme more!
CHECK THE CW/TW BEFORE READING!!!

Not for me at all. This is erotic horror that just isn't well written at all. Zero world building, conversations were hard to follow, I couldn't tell who was doing what. This is in need of heavy editing. Also the smut wasn't smutting. If we're doing monsters with weird (*ahem* multiple) peens, I expect more detailed descriptions of the member AND the experience. We get none of that. So many questions, no answers.

This is my first J.P. Sina book and honestly I am not really sure it is a good welcome to her. This is a short monster romance and it seemed more for Erotica than plot and usually I love books like that, but this one fell short. It felt very confusing with who I was reading to what was going on. Definitely needed more world building for the small plot that was there to make more sense. There were times that I was not sure who I was reading and there was a lot that seemed to just be moved over. For example, she is kidnapped from her home, family has been "taken care of" but it is unsure if her loving little brother shared the same fate or not. She cries and is angry about this possibility, but it is soon forgotten until the end of the book. It just felt very chaotic and it pulled me out of enjoying the book.

Check content warnings. This is erotic horror not dark romance though it is marketed as the latter.

I was all in for that cover. It’s spectacular. Werewolves, ‘dark romance’ and MMF? Yes please. But the story fell short. The organization was disjointed and chaotic. There were times when it was difficult to tell who was speaking. The backstory was confusing and clipped. I found the spice, which is approximately 40-50% of the book, quite boring.

But if you want werewolf erotica with power exchange, degradation, taboo elements, and gratuitous violence this might be contender.

This is a super quick read and immediately jumps into the story! It is dark, deranged, and “knot” for everyone. I’ve never really had to read trigger warnings in a book so I’ve always skipped over them. However, this is very, very dark and contains some non-con by the MMC. Our FMC changes his deranged ways for the better, but buckle up before you read this monster smut with double 🍆 and lots of 🪢. I read this in a sitting of a couple hours and JP Sina was on my Kink & Ink 2026 TBR!

Thank you to JP Sina for the ARC!!

Look this is just not for me. I LOVE monster smut and erotica but this was just... Bad? It reads like some sort of erotic horror novel, NOT a dark romance and it's not particularly effective in that either.

There's no world building or setup, basically just a bunch of body horror and really dry smut, the female MC is forgettable and the first male lead we meet literally graphically rapes, mutilates and eats a random girl because "she's a virgin"?? (He gets off on hunting and killing virgins, barf) WTF.

It only gets worse and more cringe from there. He murders the heroine's family and has disgusting breath and *surprise* rapes her too... Oh and then his brother rapes her and then they do it together Literally what the hell, how is any of this hot?

The writing is very "tell not show" and the smut (subject matter aside) was not great or engaging at all. I got no sense for the specific characters, any sense of a plot and it was hard to tell who was even talking half the time. All in all this was flat and lifeless and not what I expected at all. DNF.

I really enjoyed this book it was dark and 🥵🥵🥵

Eloise, Is beautiful, smart, brave. She lives with a family
Darius is a wild wolf that takes who he wants and does what he wants with them with no regrets, he is dark and violent

Ryder is the caring wolf, what he does for his brother over the years is beyond amazing the love he has is enormous

what happens over the first few nights they are together is full of anger, passion and laughter. I cant wait to read the other books in this series and more books by Miss Sina

3.75🌟 For the pure filth & wickedness!
Spice/smut: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️

*came back to raise my rating bc I haven’t stopped thinking about this for reasons I can’t explain and I have the urge to read it again bc it is just so FERAL

This was dark, depraved, violent, dirty, and unhinged. I wasn’t sure what to expect going in and coming out I feel a mix of WHAT DID I JUSG READ & DID I LIKE THAT? I think I liked it and idk what that says about me 🤣

You DEFINITELY need to check the CWs before going in if you have any. This is not a book you can just jump into if you have any triggers.

The smut is dirty as hell and yes this book is mostly smut & violence. 🩸 there will be blood, lots of blood, and knots. LOTS of knotting. 🪢

So far this is the darkest monster romance book I’ve read. It was entertaining for sure & im glad I read it!

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This in no way impacted my opinions.

‘Cruel Devotion’ is a wild ride that leans heavily into its dark fantasy and monster romance elements. While it delivers on the smut, the overall execution of the plot, characters, and setting leaves something to be desired.

Plot: ★★★☆☆
The storyline feels chaotic and at times difficult to follow. While the premise has potential, the way events unfold can be confusing, making it hard to stay fully immersed. That being said, if you’re primarily here for monster romance rather than a deep, cohesive narrative, this book certainly delivers on that front.

Character: ★★☆☆☆
The characters feel underdeveloped, with little depth beyond their surface-level roles. While they serve their purpose in the context of the story, they lack the complexity and emotional nuance that would make them more engaging. However, as with the plot, if you're reading for the monsters and the romance rather than character arcs, you’ll likely still enjoy it.

Setting: ★★☆☆☆
The world-building feels vague and underdeveloped, making it difficult to get a strong sense of place. More details and descriptions could have helped ground the story, but as it stands, the setting feels more like a backdrop than an integral part of the narrative.

Engagement: ★★★☆☆
Despite its flaws, the book is certainly engaging. The fast-paced nature of the story and the steamy romance keep things moving, even if the plot is occasionally hard to follow.

Readability: ★★★☆☆
The writing itself is decent, but there are moments where details feel inconsistent or missing, making some parts confusing. If the story had been a bit more polished in terms of cohesion, it would have been a smoother read.

Enjoyment: ★★☆☆☆
Enjoyment will largely depend on what you’re looking for in a book. If you’re after an intricate, well-developed fantasy romance, this may not be the best pick. But if you’re in it purely for the monster smut, ‘Cruel Devotion’ absolutely delivers.

‘Cruel Devotion’ is a book that knows its audience - it’s not about deep storytelling or complex character work, but rather the appeal of dark fantasy and monster romance. If you go in with that expectation, you might enjoy it for what it is. However, if you’re looking for something with more depth and polish, you may find it lacking.

I made it just over half way but I honestly couldn't continue any further without risking throwing up.

I'm usually not one to yuck anyone's yum, I've read some vile shit myself. But at least there's usually some actual romance in the dark shit I've read. this is straight up rape. no redemption of the MMCs. just rape. and incest.

it's marketed as an MFM why choose but it's more 'MM oh yeah there's also a female that's there too I guess'. the TWIN brothers are more in love with eachother than they are with the FMC.

I've read sibling why choose before and it's usually written as the MMCs will sleep with the FMC separately but share her emotionally and in every other aspect of the relationship. Sibling why choose should never be written as the siblings also shagging even without the FMC there.

one of the tws is 'forced incest'. I'm gonna be so fr, the way Ryder pines for Darius??? nothing forced about it. the only forceful part of it is in the flashback to the past where we learn that Darius was originally forced to fuck his twin. but now they both enjoy it and love eachother??

also, I wish authors would stop pushing the book girlie aesthetic into this shit. like sure, home girl reads. that's cool. but why is it constantly mentioned like 'oh my dark romance heart' or 'my bookish heart'? mention that the character reads, maybe make a joke about her finally living out a bookish dream or smth, but then stop mentioning it like you're trying to justify what is happening because she reads dark stuff. You can read whatever you want and not want it to happen to you irl. that's why it's F I C T I O N A L 🤦🏻

someone make sure this author doesn't have any siblings, I beg.

JP Sina dragged me in and now I’m not going back. This is a short monster romance that can hit a lot of buttons for some. But if you’re part of the few that wants a MFM, non-con, touch her and 💀monster romance? This is for you.

Eloise is stuck in an arranged marriage to someone she doesn’t know and despises. She ends up spending her evening alone, finding comfort in the only pain she can create herself. However, little did she know monsters are real and they were coming out of the shadows for her.

🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ is most of the plot tbh but I’m HERE for it.

🖤monster smut
🖤non-con
🖤knotting & breeding
🖤mfm
🖤on KU and short!!

Did you read the TW/CW? Go back and do that real quick for your safety. ❤️

I really want to emphasize that the cover is what drew me in. I liked the art. I like that it's an actual artist and not AI slop. I like the author wrote this herself without using AI. That being said, the trigger warnings were VERY misleading and all but inaccurate.

The main character undergoes sexual assault, a forced arranged marriage, kidnapping, learning her family had been slaughtered aside from her little brother who was left alone to find the corpses, and she was also raped repeatedly, gang raped, and endures Stockholm syndrome so that makes all that happens okay. Evidently.

The ending is a whiplash of "I shouldn't like them, I hate them, I'll kill them for killing my family" to "I'm a queen and these are my mates and I am in a better place!".

There is no aftercare. None.

They give commands, ignore her, and treat her like a sex object (yes that's an accurate trigger listed).

The writing was good. The story had potential. I just couldn't stand the main male characters, and the MFC was seeming immature.

Overall, this book was not for me.

What The F Did I Just Read😬

I typically don’t write my reviews like this but definitely read the TW⚠️ before you read this book. I got this for free on SYKD and liked the cover of the book.

I did finish the book I wanted to get clouser to see what whatever Eloise baby brother Archie. This book was just too gory and it was all over the place. Nothing but 90% smut and no plot really. These characters were giving me whiplash. It say dark romance I think not IMO. I hope the author other books aren’t like this one. I don’t think I could read.

It’s giving Beauty and the Beast, but with all the dark tropes that Disney didn’t. <3

“This was wrong. But, oh, how my dark romance heart swooned.”

Read the triggers! The story dives straight in and has enough of a plot to keep things moving. It’s not Stockholm Syndrome when they’re both hot, and wolfmen, each with two 🍆🍆 right? What's a gurl to do!

Okay, so Cruel Devotion is absolutely unhinged in the best (and majority of the time the most chaotic) way. If you’re here for plot? Girl, lower your expectations. If you’re here for an obsessed, morally bankrupt monster boyfriends and a whole lot of spicy nonsense? Congrats, you’ve found your next read.

This book wastes ZERO time. No slow build, no easing in. You blink, and suddenly you’re in the middle of a very questionable situationship with set of monsters who needs therapy (but let’s be honest, we wouldn’t want them any other way). The spice is spicing, the tension is feral, and the overall energy is one red flag away from a viral BookTok debate.

That being said… the story itself? It needed a little more time in the oven. The worldbuilding was kinda like when you start a new show and miss the first 10 minutes, suddenly people are talking about deep lore, and you’re just nodding like “yeah, totally.” The setting was also confusing, like, are we in modern times or a medieval fever dream?? And while the spice was immaculate, after a while, it started feeling like a copy-paste situation. Give me some VARIETY, I beg.

But listen, if you’re reading this for deep storytelling and tight plot structure, you might struggle. If you’re here for feral, toxic, taboo, ridiculous monster romance energy, you’re gonna have a great time. Will I read the next one? Absolutely. But I also need this story to hit “edit” and come back with a little more clarity next time.

Thanks to JP Sina for the ARC! Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to go rethink my taste in fictional men. Cause I need more monster smut ASAP. Woof.

This book is not for the faint of heart!
I literally had to take a couple breaks from reading it because it is sooo spicy and DARK, I mean absolutely UNHINGED!
This is not one of those cute cozy Monster Romances where the Monster is a totally misunderstood sweetheart.
This is a Monster Romance where the monsters are actually MONSTERS!
The FMC absolutely freaking loves it though. She's a Monster Romance reader and totally gobbles it up.
Plus the spice is unspeakably hot. Read at your own risk though.
If you're like me and see a long list of tws as a challenge or an all you can eat buffet, this book is for you.

I really wanted to love this story. This felt like the rough draft of a story in development. Something about the writing made it so difficult for me to follow. I didn’t always know who was talking, thinking or who were reading about at times. Even in the blurb it’s confusing. The backstory is too clipped, there isn’t enough world building. There are too many unexplained complexities for a short story.
I liked Eloise and how she kept her fight & feistiness. Darius & Ryder were set to be amazing partners. But there just wasn’t enough!
This was largely erotica with a loose plot that had too many details for erotica or not enough for a full story.
I’m definitely curious to read the next book and see how it develops.

When I tell you the art work instantly grabs you in… you’re gonna be hooked!!!

I haven’t read much of Monster romances and I believe this is my first one involving knotting… which is VERY interesting to say the least haha.

This book was very intense and was VERY spicy. I mean talk about a 2 for 1 special 😮‍💨 (two brothers and one girl, their mate).

If tr!ggers are something you take into consideration before reading a book, then I highly suggest you do so for this one. Definitely a lot of CNC, which can be off putting for some.

Although there was some plot behind this story, I was just really here for the FAWKING!!

I admit sometimes I had to take a few pauses, but nothing that made me want to stop reading. I would definitely like to see where the story leads for these three.

I really enjoyed this one!
Don’t underestimate how dark it is. If you don’t read DARK (like really dark, pitch black) romance this one might not be for you. That to say, these mmc’s were adorable even though they’re like black hole dark. They literally made morally grey characters look like saints but these too still were swoon worthy. The fmc was perfect for them, she fought back for about 0.2 seconds before just falling for both of them like a crazy person 😂
There’s like maybe 2 pages of actual plot in this. They are literally smashing the entire book.
