Since Ella could remember, she would know things she shouldn’t know. Still, she never let it change her life in any way. She made sure to live for each day, for each moment, because for Ella, there wouldn’t be many.
Ella and Erinne became the best of friends the moment they met. Theirs was a friendship, a sisterhood, a bond so strong no one and nothing could break. Not even distance.
Chris was the one man who matched Ella in her love of adventure and lust for life, and each other.
Between friendship, love, and motherhood, Ella’s drive to use her abilities for something good might have also led to her ultimate demise.
Because for all the good in the world, there also lurks the evil that wants to possess and destroy those things that shine brightest.
J. Elle Ross writes from Southern California, where she lives with her husband, three loyal dogs, an ever-multiplying flock of chickens, and two turkeys who are definitely on borrowed time.
A NICU nurse by night and storyteller by day, she finds balance in tending her garden, scribbling in notebooks, and sneaking in too many movies and TV binges. Her four children are grown, but her imagination has only grown wilder—and she’s determined to chase every story that insists on being told.
“You can’t live your life that way, Miss Ella, in fear of the possibility of the bad. You have to live in spite of it.”
The One Who Knew is a novella prequel to Someone Who Knows, and follows Ella’s story. I don’t want to give anything away, but please do read its predecessor first. The novella is told from four perspectives, following Ella from childhood to adulthood.
Often, a novella doesn’t really add much to a story and I think they can be taken or left. But this novella is one you HAVE to read. It’s a beautifully haunting story that gives an insight into the events leading up to Someone Who Knows; and is exceptionally written.
I loved getting to know more about Ella and Chris’ love story, and more about Ella’s gift. I am not usually one for romance in my reads, but The One Who Knew is heartbreakingly alluring and adds so much depth and emotion to what is already one of the best novella’s I’ve ever read.
I just want to say a massive thank you to the wonderful J. Elle Ross for kindly sending me a copy of Someone Who Knows, and it’s novella prequel The One Who Knew: Ella’s Story to read and review. My opinions are my own.
This was the perfect follow-up to the first book. It gave me a deeper dive into the characters and the background behind the beginning of the first book. This was such a heartbreaking read. It tugged at my heart strings and left me devastated. This author is amazing! I can’t wait to read more of her work!
I loved this novella! It was a perfect conclusion to the first book. It gave a great more in depth of the characters to enhance the first book even more. Both books were so well written, a great psychological thriller!!
I loved hearing about Ella’s side of the story and what lead up to everything that happened! I also loved hearing about Ella and Chris’ love story! Truly perfect!
In this prequel we get more insight into each character we’ve already met, and it’s a perfect conclusion to Someone Who Knows.
In Someone Who Knows we are kind of left with an ambiguous idea about Jeffrey Mason and what really happened. It really made me want to learn more about him and why he did what he did. Now we get a glimpse into what kind of person Jeffrey Mason was and how he treated his wife and children.
We also get to learn more about Ella and her love story with Chris. It was a little heartwarming touch to such a sad story.
I highly enjoyed this prequel novella! The POV from Jeffery mason (as messed up as this might be) was what I was looking forward to most. I love getting inside of the mind of characters like that. It was also really nice to hear the love story that Chris and Ella had (definitely helped lighten the mood of Jeffery’s messed up POV😅😂).
This authors writing is FANTASTIC and I can’t wait to read more books from her!
This was a great prequel and prefect conclusion to the first book. Get to hear Ella's side of the story and gives insight into the events leading up to Someone Who Knows. Plus the love story between Ella and Chris is sweet with a sad ending.
J. Elle Ross did a wonderful job writing both these books. A great psychological thriller.
Thank you to J. Elle Ross for sending me a copy of Someone Who Knows and its novella prequel The One Who Knew: Ella's Story.
Great novella. This went more in-depth with the characters. I made the mistake of reading it first. I suggest reading it after you read Someone who knows.
