Bryce Blooms and his friends just might be what the realm of Endland needs, and under the tutelage of Walding Zarlorn, a grandmaster of legend, they have a chance to make a difference.
Too bad that same grandmaster is mostly senile, and Bryce and his friends are young and oblivious. They would much prefer to go back home to earth. And maybe eat a sandwich.
But Endland has been tossed into chaos since their arrival, with monsters stirring and war on the minds of the lords and ladies of the realm. And with the Grim conspiring to free their dark lord from his interdimensional prison, the boys will need to step into their roles as Chosen to navigate the growing shadow, whether they are ready or not.
An award-winning author (Chosen the New Order), Nick McPherson is primarily a husband and father, which are and will always be his greatest accomplishments. He is also a fantasy genre nerd, a video game enthusiast, an engineer, a hater of yard work, and a lover of frozen custard. He splits his time between a lovely home in Cleveland, Ohio and a less lovely work desk in a different part of Cleveland. He is prone to demonstrating wry humor and finds writing his author bio somewhat difficult. But it's done now, so he supposes it wasn't too difficult after all.
Fractured Sky is the second book in The Grim King Saga by Nick McPherson. Given that the plot is so complicated, I think it is much better to read the first book prior to this one for a better understanding of what happens in it and its character development. I also needed to remind myself since I had not read The Grim King for almost three years.
It's much like in book one; we join our characters on an epic adventure, but this time, there's a noticeable difference in both storytelling and character development. McPherson's writing has improved immensely, making the world feel richer and the stakes higher. The characters are more nuanced, showing that multidimensional quality that adds depth to the story while still keeping it accessible to a younger audience. This book, however, is not only for young minds, but it has enough depth and interest to hold audiences of all ages.
The adventure may be quite fun, but sometimes, there's so much going on forcing me to pause in order to remember what occurred and how it is interlinked. It may add to the story's depth, but sometimes it feels like a burden.
That being said, The Grim King Saga is a great series for kids and young adults who enjoy more detailed and immersive epic fantasies. If you’re looking for an adventure with rich world-building and evolving characters, this series is definitely worth picking up!
An incredibly enjoyable read! The detail is phenomenal and it makes you feel like you are truly apart of an entirely new world. There is so much action and the end of each chapter makes you want to keep flipping the pages to see what will happen next. A fantastic, adventurous, fantasy series that is truly meant for all walks of life. I can’t wait to read the next one.
This book is a fun adventure for about 9 year olds and up, with lots of fight scenes done well, intrigue, and unforgettable bad guys! It's much better than the first book, though I would recommend reading the first one so that you know what's going on with the characters.
