i genuinely had no idea this is a companion story to LRs “these hollowed vows” duology. i only saw it was a newer release and picked it up, knowing i would enjoy it. so i was super surprised to find out this is set in the same world, has the same characters, and takes place two years later.
did i enjoy this as much as “these hollow vows?” no, not really. i didnt connect to any of the characters as much as i did with brie and finn, i found some of the writing to be super forced and trying too hard, and the ending was too abrupt and didnt shock me (in a good way) like the other one did.
but was this an enjoyable read? yeah, of course. i liked the dual POVs and how, even though each MC is on a separate mission, they complement and connect to each other. i also think the story is pretty entertaining and does a great job at expanding a previously created world and moving along a previously woven plot.
so readers who loved the “these hollow vows” duology will definitely enjoy this. but, if you have havent read the series, this may not be more than just your average romantasy novel.

Big sigh. Deep breath. Cracks knuckles.
Okay, this book took me forever to finish which is typically unheard of for me. I really enjoyed These Hollow Vows and These Twisted Bonds last year so I thought I would really enjoy this one. Unfortunately that wasn't the case.
There's so many tropes in this book that I adore, but Ryan failed to utilize them properly and the story was a big flop.
╰┈➤ First, and speaking as a reader who not that long ago read the duology that this is spinning off from - there wasn't much information given about the human realm, the rulers, who these humans are and why they have magic.
I felt a little thrown into the thick of it, I can't even imagine how someone who hasn't read the first two would feel. Totally lost I would imagine.
The story has the bones to be something great but I feel the author squandered opportunities away on boring and insignificant conversations - so many pages just snail-paced along and for what?
There was a lottttt of repetition. Over and over again we're told certain things - I got the memo - moving along please?
I literally started skimming around the 40% mark, then skipped from 60% to 80% then sped read to the end. I felt like a prisoner in this story and I just wanted to escape it.
╰┈➤ These so called big revelations at the end? I honestly thought it was common knowledge not an actual plot twist? So add predictable to boring, slow and repetitive.
Jas is one of the most bland FMC's I've read in a good long while. Whiny and meek. Non stop complaining.
Felicity was not much better, however I did appreciate her more- but having the story split between her and Jasalyn did nothing for either character.
Felicity's storyline is more intriguing but got cut off and was underdeveloped due to half of the book belonging to slog-fest rock personality that is Jas.
Unfortunately, I don't believe I'll continue this series.

Initially I really struggled to get into this. Princess Jasalyn’s introduction as a revenge obsessed vigilante felt a little off brand from the previous series and I had forgotten enough to feel a little lost being dropped back into this world. The story is written in Dual POV and switches between Princess Jasalyn and a Fae Shifter named Felicity who are on two separate parallel journeys. They are united under the same purpose but their location only overlaps once making the overall story progression unavoidably slow.
This book was very character driven and while Princess Jasalyn’s role is more integral to the plot, I much preferred reading from Felicity’s POV. What Jasalyn went through was inarguably terrible, but I have to wonder how someone who spent so much time being tortured in a dungeon could be so naive. The only explanation I can come up with for her being so dense and trusting was that she was simply blinded by her hatred of the Fae and her need for revenge. This level of prejudice really doesn’t make for a very lovable heroine and my sympathy for her only extends so far.
The story ended on a cliffhanger for both girls, but I am personally much more concerned about Felicity. 😅 I would have liked to have read more of her and Misha’s story and I will stick it out for their happily ever after. Jas and Hale can get whatever’s coming to them honestly. Those two lying liars deserve each other but I’m sure they’ll get their happy ending too. 😆

It saddens me to be unable to finish this book for now and to only give it 2 stars (and I feel like even 2 stars are generous) because this was one of my anticipated 2024 releases. Sadly, it took me forever to make it this far, and I just can’t do it anymore. Nothing is intriguing enough or good enough to keep me interested and invested in the story. I just don’t care about any of the characters. The only ones I like are the ones from the previous duology, but even then, Finn is mostly absent and Misha doesn’t shine like he did in the previous book, he feels watered down and lacks his delightful wittiness.
Princess Jasalyn is on a revenge mission. She traded her immortality for a magical ring that allows her to be forgotten by any who sees her when she wears it and allows her to kill everyone who wronged her when she was Mordeus’ prisoner. When the rebels’ leader kidnaps her, Kendrick, she is forced to make a bargain with him: she will use her abilities to help him kill the corrupt King of Elora if he helps her kill her enemies in exchange.
While this is happening, Kendrick’s shapeshifter sister, Felicity, takes Jasalyn’s place and goes to live with Misha, under Brie’s orders. Kendrick wants Felicity to seduce Misha so he can show her his secret room of portals, which will give Kendrick and his people a way home to Elora. Both sets of characters kept saying how dangerous and important their mission was, but honestly, I didn’t feel this sense of danger, and the stakes didn’t feel that high until the end.
Of course, things are not as easy as they seem, or as they were supposed to be, and feelings quickly develop between both pairs. Everything was so predictable, and yet there was room for some character development or some twists, but so far, it is disappointing. The book feels long, and while the characters have plans, I feel that it is all talk and no action. Even the dialogues were not that good, they felt stiff and the banter felt forced and fell flat.
Felicity is more intriguing than Jasalyn for sure, but she didn’t get a chance to shine so far in this book. It feels like even Felicity’s chapters were all about Jasalyn and her trauma. I don’t want to sound mean and like I lack empathy, but it felt like all Jas did was complain about her tough past and her traumas, and I just don’t care enough about anything in this book to force myself to continue. I usually like broken and traumatized characters, but I didn’t like the way it was done with Jasalyn, and couldn’t connect with her or even feel that bad for her.
The romance between Jas and Hale is not compelling. At all. She was just kidnapped, yet she takes the time to wonder if her kidnapper with very gorgeous eyes is involved with someone else, and she is all flustered because of the fact she is drinking from the same cup he was and her lips will touch where his did. This first hint of insta-lust was enough to make me wary of Jas and Hale’s romance. I get that she knew him years ago and he is not a complete stranger, but the fact that she spent some time with him 3 years ago does not justify this insta-lust and borderline insta-love.
Kendrick’s group is likable, but unmemorable, and unoriginal, sadly. They are not bad characters, but it’s nothing new. They are the typical band of rebels we’ve seen in many books before, with the same dynamics and banter. Jas fits too quickly and too easily in their group in my opinion, considering that they kidnapped her and were super wary of her at first. As soon as she agreed to help them, they were all ready to become best buddies.
Overall, the characters and their relationships are shallow and bland, and we all know where this is going. I read many reviews stating that this book ends with a cliffhanger and a shocking revelation, and I might give it another try later, but for now, I just don’t care enough.

A sudden burst of feminine laughter from outside draws our attention to the door. I wonder if it’s the same person I heard when I was taken. Is she involved with Kendrick somehow?
I will not think about my lips touching where his lips just touched. I will not wonder what those lips would feel like on mine.

"beneath these cursed stars" by lexi ryan can be read as a standalone, although it contains major spoilers from the author's previous series. however, before requesting this arc, i had no idea that this was the first instalment in a spin-off series, which may be the reason i have so many problems with this book.
for starters, the world building is minimal, i don't understand the magic system - how do mortals possess magic? nothing was every explained nor expanded on, it was just thrown at me, which again may stem from the fact that i had no prior knowledge of this world.
secondly, the characters and their relationships were painful to read about. everyone was infuriating and had little to no depth and character development to them. the romance between jas and kendrick felt forced and superficial, and the one between felicity and misha just made me uncomfortable.
the betrayals and secrets were not surprising in the slightest. the only thing i was shocked about was how the characters hadn't realised any of this sooner.
and the writing style? absolutely abysmal. i don't need to be reminded about a character's figure every other page please and thank yew.

The betrayal & twist at the end had me reading until 2am , I couldn’t put this down and I’m dying for book 2!

The betrayal & twist at the end had me reading until 2am , I couldn’t put this down and I’m dying for book 2!

I absolutely devoured books 1 and 2, but Felicity and Jas’ story took a bit longer to draw me in. The pacing felt sluggish at first, only truly picking up in the final 30%. It took me over a month to finish—an outlier for me when it comes to romantasy, as I usually fly through them in days.
The dual POVs were occasionally confusing, making it difficult to track who was was doing what. That said, the story did gain momentum in the latter part, finishing with —of course—a cliffhanger (as is tradition with any duology.
What I missed most was the romance. Books 1 and 2 set a strong precedent, so I expected a similar balance here. Instead, romance felt almost absent until nearly 60% in which also probably contributed to why I finished the last bit of the book in less than a day.
Despite these struggles, I’ll be finishing the series—because once I start, I simply can’t leave a story unfinished.

This was sooo unique and I genuinely haven’t read any books similar to this one! Dual POV with two (slow burn) romances happening at the same time and I really loved it!
I really really enjoyed this but man the ending 🤯 I need to know what is going to happen!!

after really loving the these hollow vows duet i was so excited to find out that there was a spin off for them. however i am disappointed to say that i do not care for the way this one is set up.
even having read the previous books, the lack of reviewing the world building and magic system and what happened in THV duet makes this feels extremely jarring and like ive been dumped in the middle of a story without any clue as to want happened in the previous 50%. as this takes place 3 years after THV i truly feel there needs to be more explanation of what the heck has been going on.
maybe we get that later in the book however it was a major disservice to this book to not do this from the get go. especially for the people who pick this one up first not realizing that without (and even with in my case?!?!) having read THV they will have even more of a hard time figuring out what exactly is the point of everything.
when the time comes of lexi creating a new series i will happily jump right in however i do not think i will be continuing my journey with this spin off.

Okay so, 1. I'm soooo happy we got another book in this world, and will be getting at least one more (but I'm rooting for three, minimum) and 2. I WAS NOT READY FOR THE PAIN???
Beneath These Cursed Stars is a spinoff from These Hollow Vows, and I can't even begin to explain how excited I was to learn that Misha will be getting his own story, though not in the way I was expecting.
Because, you see, we don't just follow him and Felicity, but also Jasalyn and Kendrick. It's a dual PoV, switching between the two girls. At first, I wasn't sure if I'd like Felicity, but she really grew on me, and I ended up liking her PoVs more than Jasalyn's. And yes, Misha was probably a part of the reason why, I won't lie.
I'd suggest you read the duology first, even though you COULD read this as a standalone, but it's better to read it from the beginning to avoid any spoilers. And I think you'd have a better time getting into this one if you already know the world and its characters, because not a lot of it is explained here.
You can also see the writing style evolve with each book, it's so much better now than it was before. The pacing could be worked on a bit more, however.
The book moved the fastest at the start, and at the very end when I physically couldn't stop reading. It was so good!!! The ending alone I'd give five stars to, the betrayals were all just perfect, and PAINFUL. We were expecting one of them yes, but the other...I did not see it coming whatsoever, and I really should have.
Somewhere around the halfway point I was wondering if this was all going to end in one book, and I'm glad it hasn't, even if I have to suffer until the next one. I'm hoping Sebastian gets his own duology as well.
I'm going to make a lot of people upset with what I say next but...I honestly liked both romances here a lot more than Brie's with Finn and Seb. Gasp. Shock. I KNOW, I KNOW, OKAY, but the heart wants what it wants, and my heart wants more of Misha, so...
I just feel like we got more development? Even if both romances were happening at the same time, they worked for me, it didn't feel like they were happening too fast, and I definitely noticed the chemistry.
I also really enjoyed the healing themes woven throughout. Both Jas and Felicity haven't had easy lives, but Jas especially has so much trauma because of what she went through, it was nice seeing her slowly starting to heal. And Felicity, seeing what she saw from Jasalyn's past, is probably the only one who truly understands her. I'd love to see them having a long talk in the next book, and becoming the best of friends.
The plot was really interesting too, mostly carried over from the past books, but I love seeing new aspects of the world I haven't thought about before. It gives me hope that when Sebastian's turn comes, there will still be stuff left to explore.
And no, I won't give up on a Sebastian book, thank you very much. I begged for a Misha book, I got a Misha book, now I also need a Seb book for my life to be complete.
Overall, Beneath These Cursed Stars was such a fun read, I can't wait to get my hands on the next book. If you liked the first duology, you'll like this too, and if you felt just okay about it, I'd say still give this one a chance, it might surprise you.

🚨Disclaimer: I did NOT read the other duology before this one, so I may have missed out on some important information and/ or world building 🚨
This book was pretty quick and easy, and overall I enjoyed myself.
However, I do have a few problems with it.
⤿ The world building in this was not great. I'm not exactly sure what was going on, and things could have been a lot more expanded on.
⤿ The relationships & characters were lack lustre and emotionless. I kind of felt like an outside perspective while reading this, like everything felt sort of disconnected. There was supposedly 2 love stories going on, and to me they lacked any kind of love and emotion. It was all soooo bland!
⤿The repeated use of "females" and "males". This is very nitpicky, I KNOW but omg, nothing in this world annoys me more, than when a man refers to a woman as a "female". she is NOT a science experiment. Stop referring to her as such.
⤿Everyone seems to say that the betrayals were super easy to predict. I didn't really see them coming, but that might come from the disconnect I had with the story.
Anyways, you might like this book more, if you liked the other duology. Overall, this was fine.

To przysłowie chodziło mi po głowie przez całą książkę, ponieważ poznając Jas w poprzednich tomach, nie sądziłam że okaże się tak rządną zemsty bohaterką, pełną gniewu i nienawiści. Jest to jej mechanizm obronny przez całym światem fae którego nienawidzi ale jej kreacja postaci jest świetna - pokazuje jaką cenę jest się w stanie zapłacić, byle by ochronić siebie i bliskich.
Jej relacja z Kendrickiem była cudownie poprowadzona. Niegdyś byli uwięzieni w tym samym lochu, teraz łączy ich wspólna misja i przygoda z gromadą jego przyjaciół. Ogromnie podobało mi się że chłopak wyłapywał wszystkie najmniejsze szczegóły w jej zachowaniu - bała się ciemności, „przypadkiem” zostawił jej lampkę. Rozczulały mnie jego gesty.

I will start this review by stating that whilst you don't necessarily need to read the These Hollow Vows duology to understand the story in its entirety, I would recommend it as I was unaware of the connection between both series and found myself confused during the first 15% of the story. The story begins recounting the main events that occur within the These Hollow Vows duology where Jasalyn's sister Brie is the main character, and as somebody unfamiliar with Brie's journey I was definitely overwhelmed with the sheer volume of plot history being tossed my way. However once I got past this initial portion of the story and settled into the present, Beneath These Cursed Stars was an breeze to read through with its consistent and efficient pacing. The characters were a lot of fun to follow on their individual journeys, and I'm really glad that this is a dual-POV told tale. The book is packed full of mystery, adventure, romance and magic that keeps the reader engaged and unable to put the book down. If you're a past reader of this author's work or a new reader, this is not a Romantasy story to be missed in 2024.
Jasalyn is a morally complex heroine who we endured a horrific kidnapping and torture at the hands of Mordeus, the false king. Jas's vulnerabilities and fears broke my heart as we witness her feel trapped into a life that she does not want. Her need for vengeance added an edge to her softness that I loved, and I found myself really intrigued by the lore of the magical ring that grants Jasalyn the 'kiss of death.' At the root of her actions is Jas's need to no longer feel afraid in her own skin and her surroundings, and it was a joy to watch her story unfold throughout her point-of-view. I love the bonds that she makes along the way and the sense of assurance that grows within herself. I'm very eager to see where Jasalyn's story will lead in the second and final instalment in this duology. Felicity was an unexpected delight that I absolutely adored. I still find much of her character to be a mystery as she spend the majority of her point-in-view as she pretends to be Jasalyn, however I very much enjoyed the snippets of her personality that shine through and I cannot wait to see where her story will lead. Felicity is fierce and determined in her role throughout the story, however she also possesses a softness and gentleness that acted as the perfect balance in her personality. It broke my heart as we ultimately watch Felicity fall for a man that doesn't know the true her, and that ending... wow. The longing and pining was written to perfection, and I need book two ASAP to know what happens next.
Beneath These Cursed Stars is not a love-triangle as both main characters have their own budding love interest. I couldn't possibly pick a favourite between Kendrick and Misha. Kendrick's loyalty and selflessness are unparalleled. His "who did this to you" moment had me kicking my feet and screaming, and I loved how he truly saw Jasalyn for who she was from the beginning. Kendrick's support and belief in Jas as she is continuously faced with her trauma and PTSD from her past quickly cemented him as a favourite of mine, as I believe many readers will also feel by the end of the book. To my understanding Misha is present during Brie's duology, and now I know I have to go back and read these books after falling in love with him in this one. Misha's cheeky nature and playful arrogance was such a joy to read as he offered much-needed humour during stressful situations. His commitment to his people and role as the Wild Fae King was admirable, and you get this true sense of love and respect from his peers. Misha's want for a true and honest love tugged at my heartstrings, and I truly hope that he and Felicity come out of their betrayal stronger than ever in book two. Please Lexi Ryan... I need to see their happily ever after.
That ending took me by complete surprise and I know I'm going to go insane waiting for book two after that cliffhanger. Beneath These Cursed Stars was unputdownable and thrilling from beginning to end. I cannot wait to see where this story leads in the conclusion to this magical and spellbinding duology.

Beneath These Cursed Stars is the first instalment in a duology by author Lexi Ryan. Princess Jasalyn has a secret. I will start this review by stating that whilst you don't necessarily need to read the These Hollow Vows duology to understand the story in its entirety, I would recommend it as I was unaware of the connection between both series and found myself confused during the first 15% of the story. The story begins recounting the main events that occur within the These Hollow Vows duology where Jasalyn's sister Brie is the main character, and as somebody unfamiliar with Brie's journey I was definitely overwhelmed with the sheer volume of plot history being tossed my way. However once I got past this initial portion of the story and settled into the present, Beneath These Cursed Stars was an breeze to read through with its consistent and efficient pacing. The characters were a lot of fun to follow on their individual journeys, and I'm really glad that this is a dual-POV told tale. The book is packed full of mystery, adventure, romance and magic that keeps the reader engaged and unable to put the book down. If you're a past reader of this author's work or a new reader, this is not a Romantasy story to be missed in 2024.
Jasalyn is a morally complex heroine who we endured a horrific kidnapping and torture at the hands of Mordeus, the false king. Jas's vulnerabilities and fears broke my heart as we witness her feel trapped into a life that she does not want. Her need for vengeance added an edge to her softness that I loved, and I found myself really intrigued by the lore of the magical ring that grants Jasalyn the 'kiss of death.' At the root of her actions is Jas's need to no longer feel afraid in her own skin and her surroundings, and it was a joy to watch her story unfold throughout her point-of-view. I love the bonds that she makes along the way and the sense of assurance that grows within herself. I'm very eager to see where Jasalyn's story will lead in the second and final instalment in this duology. Felicity was an unexpected delight that I absolutely adored. I still find much of her character to be a mystery as she spend the majority of her point-in-view as she pretends to be Jasalyn, however I very much enjoyed the snippets of her personality that shine through and I cannot wait to see where her story will lead. Felicity is fierce and determined in her role throughout the story, however she also possesses a softness and gentleness that acted as the perfect balance in her personality. It broke my heart as we ultimately watch Felicity fall for a man that doesn't know the true her, and that ending... wow. The longing and pining was written to perfection, and I need book two ASAP to know what happens next.
Beneath These Cursed Stars is not a love-triangle as both main characters have their own budding love interest. I couldn't possibly pick a favourite between Kendrick and Misha. Kendrick's loyalty and selflessness are unparalleled. His "who did this to you" moment had me kicking my feet and screaming, and I loved how he truly saw Jasalyn for who she was from the beginning. Kendrick's support and belief in Jas as she is continuously faced with her trauma and PTSD from her past quickly cemented him as a favourite of mine, as I believe many readers will also feel by the end of the book. To my understanding Misha is present during Brie's duology, and now I know I have to go back and read these books after falling in love with him in this one. Misha's cheeky nature and playful arrogance was such a joy to read as he offered much-needed humour during stressful situations. His commitment to his people and role as the Wild Fae King was admirable, and you get this true sense of love and respect from his peers. Misha's want for a true and honest love tugged at my heartstrings, and I truly hope that he and Felicity come out of their betrayal stronger than ever in book two. Please Lexi Ryan... I need to see their happily ever after.
That ending took me by complete surprise and I know I'm going to go insane waiting for book two after that cliffhanger. Beneath These Cursed Stars was unputdownable and thrilling from beginning to end. I cannot wait to see where this story leads in the conclusion to this magical and spellbinding duology.

When I received this ARC, I was so excited to dive into the book. Having read the previous duology, I was excited to see Aribella's sister Jaslyn take centre stage in her own spin off series. As it had been a while since I had been in this word, I did initially struggled with getting into the world and what was going on. Ideally, I would have loved a recap of the previous duology on what had happened before this book. At the start, It was really confusing and often felt like I was missing a lot of things. In addition, personally I felt like this could not be read as a standalone or before These Hollow Vows Duology as the duology beforehand really set up the worldbuilding and characters. When I hit the 20% mark, things became a lot clearer where things began to make sense and answered quite a lot of questions I had.
Three years after These Hollow Vows duology takes place, this book focuses on Jaslyn and the effects of her being a prisoner in Mordeus dungeons. The trauma and the torture has left Jasalyn unable to hug others and open up to those close around her and talk about what she has gone through. But Jasalyn is also keeping a secret. Jasalyn has a enchanted ring that gives her death's kiss that she has been using to assassinate the guards and supporters of Mordeus. Meanwhile, a fae shifter called Felicity need a miracle. Fated to kill her magical father, Felicity has been using her unique ability to avoid the prophecy.
When Jaslyn hears of Mordeus ressecution, Jasalyn wants to end him once and for all. Felicity offers to go in the form of the shadow princess allowing Jasalyn to hunt Mordeus while Felicity uses this oppournity as Jasalyn to get closer to Misha (the Wild Fae King). Jaslyn is reunited with Kendrick, a boy who helped her in the dungeons. Despite the roles being reversed, both girls are able to feel something- Misha helps Felicity to wish for a world where she can be her true self while Kendrick helps Jas to feel something other than anger for the first time in three years.
I honestly really enjoyed this book. It was such a super addicting and fun read. This made me lose track of time due to how good this book was and was really impossible to put down. I honestly loved the Found Family with Kendrick, Skylar, Remme and Natan. I can not wait to see more of them especially Remme who kept interrupting every single time Kendrick and Jas had a moment. However, the frustration I felt for Misha throughout this book. He did not deserve to be fooled like that and deserves to find love just like everyone else too. Honestly justice for Misha. I really hope he finds love in the next book. Furthermore, I really liked Jaslyn a lot more as a main character. I felt like it was nice to see her development from the start and felt like she was not making bad decisions all the time.
This was a super enjoyable book and the ending blew me away. I was not expecting the plot twist and left me reeling for a few hours after finishing this book. I seriously need Book 2 like now because wow. Many thanks again to Hodder and Stoughton for letting me have an E-ARC of this book. I had such a great time.

being back in this magical world that Lexi Ryan created through the These Hollow Vows series was incredible! I’m so glad I got the chance to read this book early and connect with two flawed, complex MCs.
while reading books with two parallel POVs, I find that usually one is more captivating than the other. here, however, I was excited to continue both Felicity’s and Jas’s individual stories, because both were sufficiently developed and vital to the overall plot. (here’s hoping their paths cross more in the sequel!)
I would say that the book’s strength lies in its characters and their inner struggles and turmoils. it’s true that the plot is dynamic and filled with twists and turns (and the occasional betrayals that I did not see coming), but witnessing the evolution of both Felicity and Jas was the best part, in my opinion.

beneath these cursed stars is a spin off series from the these hollow vows duology. i was unaware of this before i requested it so for the past MONTH i forced myself to read that prior to this and i would just like my TIME and MONEY back. that duology was mid to begin with and this was honestly so extremely boring. if this wasn’t an arc i would’ve dnf’d it 15% in. i did not like jasalyn then and i do not like her now.
i do not recommend this unless you loved these hollow vows and im so confused as to why this is marketed as its own series when its clearly obvious you need to read the duology first and its apart of the same universe. the math isn’t mathing. anyways what a waste of time and do not recommend.

Thoughts
I spent so much of this book thinking "The sister has so much MC energy." Turns out the sister was the MC of the previous series, so, nice. The good news is I had no trouble understanding this book, even with no knowledge of the prior one. (There are, however, significant spoilers for the previous series.)
There are two main POVs and two plot lines running parallel. Jasalyn gets the lion's share of plot and development, with more action and adventure. I found myself caught up in the main mystery, and the reveal with equal parts surprising and scary. Jasalyn herself could probably have an easier time of it if she didn't hate all fae so much, something that other characters point out to her pretty quickly. I understand she'll likely grow out of it, but it was a frustrating roadblock. Felicity is easier to read because she has no such prejudices, although she falls prey to one of my lesser liked plot conceits - instalove. Even with the instalove, her storyline was my favorite, and I want only good things for her. I think fans of two broken hearts finding each other will probably really enjoy her plot.
I have no idea how this stacks up to the previous series, but readers who think this one sounds interesting should be totally comfortable jumping in here.

I read an ARC of Beneath These Cursed Stars by Lexi Ryan. It's definitely a solid fantasy romance. The story follows two girls, Jasalyn and Felicity, and it’s cool how their stories intertwine. I really liked how the author built this magical world; it feels super immersive.
The thing is, it’s more of a character-driven book than an action-packed one. If you’re looking for nonstop adventure, maybe this isn’t your jam. But if you’re into getting to know the characters and their relationships, you’ll probably enjoy it.
One thing to know is that the book connects to her other series, These Hollow Vows. If you haven’t read those, you might be a little lost. But it’s not a total deal-breaker.
Overall, it’s a good read if you’re into fantasy romance with strong female characters. Just don’t expect it to be all explosions and sword fights.

Well… she did it again! Lexi Ryan never fails to impress.
I absolutely lost myself in this book, you know the kind of book you can’t stop thinking about, desperate to get through your working day so you can just curl up and jump straight back into it? Yeah this book does exactly that.
Being back in this world was so satisfying and although I wouldn’t suggest you desperately need to read These Hollow Vows and These Twisted Bonds before picking this up, it would help the context of some of the characters and their motives and to an extent the world settings and politics.
Coming back to some of the characters from the previous duology was amazing, developing a deeper understanding of them and following them on their own journey. This book focuses on Abriellas sister Jas and her life after her time in the dungeon. It deals with her struggles and trails following her trauma and her journey to accepting (or not accepting) her fate.
However, Felicity’s story is the one that has me begging for the next instalment of this duology the most. A fabulous storyline with a great romance concept, I was just waiting for a moment you know has to eventually happen and then when it hits, you are still utterly devastated, hopeful and emotionally wrecked in the best ways.
One of the best things about this book is you have two romances to follow, equally well put together and tension filled.
The book took twists and turns off of an expected path and I just found it so gripping and fun to read, il be recommending this one for some time.
If you enjoyed These Hollow Vows this is a must, if you haven’t read that yet, you really should but as a guide this book has tropes such as travelling, only one horse, friends to lovers, forbidden love, betrayal and a found family feel in some places.
Honestly my favourite book of the year so far!

The easiest 5 stars ever! Was I the only one that didn't realize that Beneath These Cursed Stars was the third installment in the Hollow Vows series???! 😲😲 Someone told me that the only similarity was the story takes place in same world but ALAS no, it's Jasalyn's story.
“You say your kiss is deadly, but every hour that passes, I feel more and more like I might die without it.”
Refresher course! Remember Jasalyn was kidnapped in Hollow Vows and Brie had to jump through all sorts of hoops for King Mordeus to get her back. Then, at the end of Twisted Vows, Brie sits on Maabs throne and King Mordeus is dead.
After being kidnapped and tortured by King Mordeus, Jasalyn harbors deep resentment towards the fae and their principles. With no other options, she must remain under the protection of her sister, Queen Abriella, in the Unseelie castle. As a mortal, she needs protection until her 18th birthday, at which point she will become a fae and the magic within her will manifest as a unique gift or talent.
Yet Jasalyn is not a mouse. She refuses to hide behind her sister or shrink away in her room. Her vision is singularly focused on one thing: revenge. King Mordeus might have been her captor, but his many soldiers who fulfilled his every command and desire still live. And though he is dead, they must be held accountable.
I don't want to give anything else away because this book was amazing. Delicious. 😝

While this is separate from 'These Hollow Vows,' I feel like you need to read that prior. The world building in 'Beneath These Cursed Stars' is lacking by itself. I was never really able to get fully into this book because I felt like I was missing crucial info. It was like I came into a series on book 3, with no prior info regarding the first 2 books. THV is on my TBR, I just haven't gotten to it yet. Nowhere does it indicate you need to read THV first, just that it's a standalone. It may say interconnected, but I feel like as it is, it is *not* a standalone. Or it's best if it isn't read as a standalone.
That being said, I enjoyed the writing style. The characters are good, but I think at least one of them is a carryover from THV and would've loved more depth to her.
The plot is good, as best I understand it. This book has 2 parallel storylines, and I was more invested in Felicity's (fae) than Jasalyn's (carryover). I found Jas a bit naive and while I know she was traumatized, she annoyed me at times.
Pacing is probably OK, but to me felt painfully slow. I think that's at least a good bit due to me not being able to connect or fully get into it.

If you haven’t read the These Hollow Vows duology by this author, this review contains slight spoilers.
You might remember Jasalyn from that duology. The younger sister of the main character, who spent a long time locked up and tortured by a dark and wicked Fae king. In this book she and a shape-shifter named Felicity, both have POV’s! And we get to read about lots of memories from Jasalyn’s time in the dungeons too.
Jasalyn is numb and full of hate, traumatized by the abuse she underwent in the dungeons. She doesn’t even share with her sister, what happened there. She feels broken and doesn’t want to break her sister too, by telling her everything.
The healing and growth she underwent in this book was amazing and it was so nice reading about how loved she is and how people wanted to help her. The “Who did this to you” gets me every time!! Okay it was actually “Did he do this to you?” in this case but same effect.
Jasalyn is still human but an enchanted object gives her very intriguing dark powers.
Mysterious deaths and rumors of the resurrection of the wicked king, lead to Jasalyn taking her chance for revenge and Felicity, who is running from a prophecy, takes her form and place so nobody notices Jasalyn is gone.
The healing power of (unexpected) love (yes this has lots of great slow burn romance) is beautiful but missions and secrets make things complicated..
There are some unexpected twists, especially the one connected to Jasalyn’s scars was incredibly intriguing to me!
I’m really looking forward to reading the sequel!!!

I sat on this for over a year before I was able to pick it up and read it - I tried to convince myself that I could not get into the story because of a bad reading slump or my unpredictable mood reading... alas, that was not the case for me... sadly... As it turns out, this is a continuation of the These Hollow Vows series, which I have not read (is this my fault for not knowing? Perhaps partly, but I received an eARC from the publisher which made no mention of needing to read the other series first in order to understand the entire point of the plot of this book.
!!! Please only read this if you have read These Hollow Vows. If you have not, put this down IMMEDIATELY because I promise you, you will be utterly confused.
All that said, would I have enjoyed this more if I had read the other books first? Probably not. The plot may have made more sense to me, but the characters would have been just as annoying. The romance made me feel icky and felt forced. Felicity's POVs were the only thing that kept me going.
