The last thing Private Investigator Earl Young expects to do on his week off is to pose as a fake boyfriend to one of two whistleblowers at a business convention, although the former Special Ops soldier is confident he can handle any task his employer assigns to him. Crossing the line…
Earl’s driving need to solve problems forces him to work alongside Sienna as she draws him deeper into her corporate world of secrets and subterfuge. 5 stars I received a free copy of the Christian romantic suspense Never a Traitor: Protector Sweethearts book 7 by Jan Thompson in the multi-author boxset Dangerous Deceptions and this review was given freely. An action and drama-packed novel with a touch of irony, a fair amount of violence, and a slowly growing sweet romance with a happy ending. When her FBI informant boyfriend is killed trying to help the FBI close down the corrupt Gavard Owens Oppenheimer Properties and its management, Finnegan Ford and half-brother of Zachary Gavard, administrative assistant Sienna Halstead, under the protection of former Special Ops agent now Hu Knows private investigator Earl Young, tries to solve the case while avoiding being a pawn for the FBI and killed by the assassin Killjoy. Connects multiple Jan Thompson series. Contains a lot of violence but the graphic level is low.
This was a clean novel, which I always appreciate. However, I did not find the situations and conversations to ring with believable authenticity. It is considered a Christian novel and prayer and even scripture was used throughout, but I felt that the reference to prayer, etc. as with the conversations, were contrived. I would not discourage anyone from reading this as it was appropriate for YA and older. For me, it just did not feel compelling or true to real life, real situations, or real emotions.
A private investigator falls in love with one he protecting.
Enjoyed being with this author again. Earl and Sienna story was exciting from start to finish. It was love at first sight for Earl. It took a little while for Sienna to fall for Earl. But he became her shadow and protector. The FBI agent that was helping in the investigation was unforgiving and harsh in how she dealt with the investigation. Vienna former coworkers were very greedy. So happy how this story ended. God was in the center to which was good. Will read more in this series.
Never a Traitor by Jan Thompson was exciting and suspenseful right up to the very end. I loved the chemistry between Sienna and Earl. I enjoyed characters from Ms Thompson's book weaving in and out of the story. As always, in Ms Thompson's books, very pleased find faith at the forefront. A very engrossing and complicated romantic suspense. Would definitely recommend. I was honored to receive an ARC from the author. I breathlessly awaiting Never a Hostage. (Too smarmy? Yeah, but true.)
I enjoyed this suspense romance book. Check it out. Sienna is working for the FBI as an informant then will enter WITSEC or at least that is the plan. Earl is sent to be her bodyguard/fake boyfriend while she is gathering information and protect her. But all best laid plans go awry. Will he be able to protect her? Or will they figure out who is killing off her fellow employees at GOOP? and what is going on?
It was a quick read, though it took a while to get into as it felt like some early context was missing—details that would have helped ground the storyline sooner. The plot included a few interesting twists, but the ending came abruptly and didn’t spend much time developing the mystery in a deeper or more satisfying way. Overall, it made for a fast read, but one that left me wanting more substance.
Earl and Sienna. A Christian romantic thriller. The storyline is good and full of action, intrigue, romantic chemistry, and lots of faith. While parts of that worked really well and flowed, quite a few times it felt awkwardly placed as a reminder that it was a Christian book. The characters are entertaining and well developed. The PI firm intrigued me and I do want to read more of their stories.
I really like the story line of the book and especial the absence of profanity. But I just do not think the book is well written. It just does not reach out and grab you to continue reading. Plus there are several areas where some sort of information was obviously left out that was needed to make sense of some things.
This was such a good book to read. I enjoyed the suspense, the comradery of the characters and their lifestyle based on faith. I have been recently enjoying Jan Thompson’s books and reread this one. Thompson has some great storylines. I’m eager to read the next one.
I love this series. Each man that works for Human Knows has a unique personality that really keeps you reading to find out more. More important is their faith. Couldn't stop reading.
Wow. This book is a thriller but in a good way. It kept me on my toes. I loved that even with bad people all around her the main character kept her faith and it was genuine. And God heard and answered her prayers
I have found I really like the suspense of Jan's books and am hooked! This was #1, but I read #3 first, so this gave me some back story. It kept me glued to it and I only stopped because I fell asleep.
This is a great story. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Jan always writes great stories, and I truly like the use of scriptures and the fact that she doesn't just reference them. She includes them so the reader gets to read them.
I really appreciate the clean book and the idea was a really good one. But…it fell short. So many awkward insertions of prayer and faith. I am a believer but this just didn’t feel authentic. There were also some awkward transitions between Earl and Sienna that just needed more.
Well written mystery and romance novel. The plot moves along quickly, but keeps you guessing. Can you figure out who are the good guys and those who have turned criminal.
Suspenseful and full of mystery. This was a very good read. Earl was very protective and after several strange things happened, he wasn’t sure who he could trust. Sienna was a great female main character. I highly recommend reading it.
I received a copy of this book. My opinions are entirely my own. Great Story and Wonderful Characters. Full of action and plot twists. Looking forward to reading more books by this author.
In this high quality suspense book, the dialogue is well written and the pacing is excellent. The intricate detail really brings ring the story to life.
I enjoyed this book full of surprising betrayals and the unexpected ending. This is the first book in this series and I am looking forward to book two.
I enjoyed this good clean Christian mystery with Earl and Sierra. And I enjoyed having a true ending, yet a leading into the next book in the sequence.
This was an okay story. I thought some scenes worked well, but altogether this book felt disjointed and a bit hollow. Not sure I would read more by this author.
