They always say the past can come back to haunt you — I just didn't expect it to look so good.
Ten years ago I met the love of my life the summer after high school. He was supposed to be my forever… Then he disappeared.
Now, in some cruel twist of fate, Luke Reyes just walked into the firehouse where I work as a paramedic. The man was supposed to become a cop, but somehow he’s the new firefighter on my shift.
And he's almost hot enough to douse the flames of my fury.
When I refuse to acknowledge Luke’s existence, our Lieutenant decides to throw us together in some death defying stunts, forcing a new bond with the man that shattered my heart.
But I like the safe option. I always have. And whatever’s smoldering deep inside me doesn’t feel safe at all — because there’s no smoke without fire.
Memories With Fire is a dual first person POV, steamy, workplace, second chance romance — with a dash of suspense.
Tamara lives with her cocker spaniel, River, in the beautiful city of Calgary, Alberta. When she’s not busy writing the stories of sexy firemen, she can be found with River at the river, writing in her journal, biking, doing yoga, or collecting butterflies and unicorns. She’s a poptart, through and through (think classic Britney, Christina, and NSYNC), a Swiftie, and enjoys country, rock, and a little piano instrumental when she’s trying to focus. Give her a hot man to look at, a book boyfriend to swoon over, and friends to laugh with and she’s set.
This book captivated me from start to finish! I was eagerly turning the pages to discover what would happen next. With its secrets, drama, and unexpected twists, I couldn’t get enough. The story follows Luke and Hailey, who meet the summer after high school and fall head over heels for each other. But just as things are heating up, Luke suddenly disappears. Fast forward a few years, and we find Hailey working as a paramedic, only to discover that her new firefighter colleague is none other than Luke! When they reunite, the chemistry between them is undeniable, but there are still a lot of unanswered questions and uncertainties hanging in the air.
Luke and Hailey have different personalities—Luke is bold and adventurous, always seeking thrills, while Hailey is more of a cautious soul who’s closed off her heart due to past experiences. When Luke comes back into her life, she tries to keep him at arm’s length, avoiding him and pushing him away because she’s scared to trust him again. But Luke is determined to win her back. He truly believes she’s the one for him and little by little, he starts breaking down her walls. I loved how protective he is of Hailey; even when she insisted on hating him, he treated her with so much respect and adoration.
When the truth behind their separation finally came out, I was so frustrated with a certain character! But I’m glad the author didn’t just brush it aside. I felt satisfied with how everything wrapped up in the end. The camaraderie among the crew was super fun and heartwarming, and I’m also really curious about the couple in the next book—I honestly didn’t see that coming!
- Workplace Romance - Second Chance - It Was Always You - Opposites Attract
This book had me screaming the majority of the time due to the fact that you find out so much information almost every chapter. There were so many twists and turns, that I didn't want to put the book down!
Luke is such a sweet and caring man; definitely golden retriever vibes. No matter how many years it has been since him and Hailey, he always treated her with respect, care, and adoration. He would do absolutely anything for Hailey, and his actions throughout the book proved that. A new book boyfriend for sure.
Hailey is a boss lady for sure. Underneath that exterior though, she was extremely vulnerable and only wanted things to go good for herself. No matter what she did to try and keep Luke at arms length when he entered back in her life, her heart would not allow that.
Luke and Hailey's story is a sweet one, one with smiles and tears, but so beautiful.
Tamara does it again!!! Got this as an arc and ate it up! I absolutely loved the first book in this series and the second did not disappoint. Love Hailey and Luke 🥹 the twists had me dropping my kindle and gasping. All the emotions! Can’t wait for book number three this summer!
This book was okay. There were parts I enjoyed, but also parts that felt a bit boring. It’s supposed to be a second-chance romance, but it didn’t really feel like one. ────୨ৎ──── Thank you to Tamara Rene & Luna Literary for the ARC in exchange for my honest review!
I loved Living With Fire and I was super excited for this sequel but it didn't work quite as well for me. Our MCs are nice to read about and once we get to about the halfway mark, the story gets engaging as well but for me, there was just something missing. There is a short third act breakup and I'm usually a girl's girl all the way through but here, I was totally on Luke's side and I thought the drama was really unnecessary. The ending does bring a lot of action and I loved reading that. I'm still looking forward to the next book and seeing the Firefam again!
I received a free early copy in exchange for an honest review.
This book has made me realise that second chance romances are not for me, and that's okay. I found myself uninterested in the two characters, and some of the twists/reveals made me roll my eyes.
The actual writing style was good, and it made me still want to read the book to find out what happened.
I love the hints in the epilogue towards the next book/couple, and I can't wait for that one!
I have been waiting on the edge of my seat for the second book of this series since reading Living With Fire!! I was so happy I got the ARC for this book and truly loved every second of it.
Luke and Hailey were filled with second chance goodness, a little workplace romance (firefighter and EMT), and some TEAAAAA to spill. Also had a little enemies to lovers tension (at least on hailey’s end) in the beginning and I just am a SUCKER for that every single time.
Highly recommend Tamara Rene’s books, pick up Living With Fire if you haven’t read it yet and then you can swing right into Memories With Fire!!
Usually second chance romance isn't my favorite but this book had me hooked from the start! Luke 🥵 Are you freaking kidding me?! I am FERAL for this man! Golden retriever with SHARP teeth. And that kitchen scene! Oh my 🥵🫠 Not only was this book hot it was also such a great story! Even when I thought I knew what was coming the plot twist decided I knew nothing! 🤣 If you are looking for a more established author comparison I'd say Elsie Silver but with more thrill! This book is my favorite in the series so far. I'm not ashamed to admit that I've been hit by the Luke Effect 🫠
Received as an ARC and read in 2 days. The plot was intriguing, the romance was spicy, and tension of their forced proximity was perfect! The main characters, Hailey and Luke are relatable, captivating, and despite their differences, the reader is left rooting for them. Although this appears to be book 2 of a series, it can be read as a stand alone.
It’s well written so that the reader is on the edge of the seat to figure out what happened to the two main characters between the time that they previously dated to now and why they haven’t talked in 10 years. It isn’t love at first sight either, with Hailey not wanting anything to do with Luke, until she has no option but to rely on him. Hailey‘s character is relatable, not wanting to make scary decisions and wants to always take the safe route. Luke is bold, fun, adventurous, and helps her remember who she truly is and to take chances.
Opposites attract, friends to enemies, Second chance romance.
Soooooooo good!!!! Got through this with 2 days, and it’s all the best of the second chance trope plus firemen 😍 Luke and Hailey have so much chemistry right from the start and it’s sizzling throughout the book. Love, banter, drama, suspense, hilarity, this has everything I didn’t know I was looking for.
Ten years ago, Hailey and Luke spent the summer after high school falling in love. They had big plans for their lives after college but they were going to find a way to do it all together. Luke left at the end of the summer with an emotional airport goodbye and the promise of one day, and then he just disappeared.
Fast forward, Hailey is a paramedic for the Santa Rose Fire Department and Luke shows up one day as the new firefighter on her shift. Noticing the tension within the team, the shift Lieutenant plans a team building day forcing them to work through things. Hailey has always played it safe and Luke is far from the safe option but that doesn’t stop her from playing with fire. • I was part of the ARC group for Living With Fire and I have been anxiously waiting for the next book in this series. You know when you read the first chapter of a book and you just KNOW. This was one of those books for me. I was hooked from the jump. I found myself literally scoffing out loud with indignation on Hailey’s behalf. And then my stomach swooped right there with hers at other moments. At one point, I was so rattled I hung up on the insurance company I had been on hold with for 18 minutes. This book hits you like that. Bonus: the supporting characters are amazing. All your friends from book 1 are back and add some much goodness to this story.
A big thank you to @tamara.rene.books for experiencing this book in real time with me as I basically live tweeted my brain to her as I read. You are a gem and have created the best little universe and I cannot wait for what’s to come.
When I tell you guys I ate this book up. I MEAN IT. Now, I didn’t realize this was a series when I signed up for this arc, but I read after that I was good to read this book before reading the first. I enjoyed this book so freaking much, it was absolutely amazing and the characters are just so beautiful and they feel so real. And to be honest I am so in love with Liam. This book was giving major 9-1-1 vibes. WHICH I LOVE. So if you love the show 9-1-1, go read this book!
Memories With Fire had such a strong, captivating start that immediately pulled me in. The enemies-to-lovers setup was perfect, with the twist that he was still deeply in love and she was the guarded, grumpy one. I loved the emotional tension in the beginning, especially his protective and caring nature—the highway rescue scene had my heart racing, and the training camp sequence where he earned her trust was one of my favorite parts.
But after the secret reveal—the reason for their breakup—the story started to fall apart. The reveal itself felt weak and underdeveloped, and unfortunately it coincided with their first intimate scenes, which were just EW. The transition into sex after ten years apart felt forced and unrealistic. I have no problem with steamy scenes, but these were cringey instead of romantic or hot, with lines like: “Besides her vagina, I haven’t had breakfast today.” “You’re not too sore, right? If your vagina’s sore, I’m not doing my job.”
I almost gave up around 65%, because by then they were officially together and the story became slow and boring.
Then—holy fcking sht—a huge plot twist happened! I was thrilled for a moment and glad I kept reading, but the excitement died out fast and didn’t build into any meaningful drama. The ending was weak and cliché. Running off to get married in Vegas felt completely uninspired.
Overall, the book was less engaging than the first in the series. The heroine felt like a passive chaos, which didn’t match the depth and effort of the male lead, and the plot never fully delivered after the initial setup. I ended up disappointed, wishing for a more intense and well-developed story.

As someone who’s not a fan of second chance romances- I LOVED this. Didn’t want to put it down. The MMC is a total golden retriever and a fire fighter, so seriously it doesn’t get much better than that. Definitely a slow burn. When the spice finally comes around it doesn’t over take the plot- which I was super excited about because the storyline itself was super enjoyable & I feel like so many books lately are over taken by too much smut & not enough story. This is the second book in an intertwined standalone series, but you can absolutely read it on its own. Though, I do recommend reading the first book too, simply because it was also a good read! I can’t wait for the next one
What can I say another amazing book by Tamara! If you love firefighters, angsty second chances, and all the emotions, this is for you! Plus the banter is hot and funny!
Oh, Hailey and Luke - I love you two! MEMORIES WITH FIRE is the fantastic follow-up to LIVING WITH FIRE, and it hit me right in the feels. While the books in the With Fire series are standalones, I highly recommend reading both (and I'm already eager to read the third). One of Tamara Rene's many strengths lies in crafting incredible characters, and you'll want to spend every page possible with the Santa Rosé crew. When Hailey—a paramedic who likes to play it safe—encounters Luke—the danger-loving new addition to the Santa Rosé Fire Department—sparks fly... but not the kind you'd think. They'd spent a summer together ten years prior and fell madly in love... but circumstances kept them apart, and now Hailey only feels the warm and tingly feeling of hate. (Except when Luke smiles and the dimple appears. That's some other kind of warm and tingly feeling... but she won't admit that.) For the good of their workplace relationship, their friendships, and their own sanity, Hailey and Luke must come to terms with their complicated past before they can embrace their future. Before they can move forward, they must reckon with the reasons things fell apart in their first place. This second-chance romance is a dual first person POV with plenty of heat and heart. Hailey is an incredible protagonist, flawed and endearing, and I loved following along on her journey to finding acceptance, bravery, and love. Luke is an absolute dream! His fierce dedication to Hailey despite their circumstances had me swooning, and I also love how seamlessly he fit into the Santa Rosé FD crew. I cheered these two on with all my might, and Tamara Rene truly delivered by giving these second-chance lovers the gorgeous, heartfelt story they deserved. Thank you to Tamara Rene for providing me with an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review!
Second chance is not my favorite trope in a book but this one was done really well in the fact that the reader is on the edge of the seat to figure out what happened to the two main characters between the time that they previously dated to now and why they haven’t talked in 10 years! I also enjoyed that it wasn’t a lot of flashbacks to their past and we stayed in the present. This book kept me hooked that I read it in almost a day. The book starts where Luke moves to Santa Rose, California and gets hired to be a firefighter, unbeknownst to him that his old girlfriend , Hailey, from 10 years ago is working as a paramedic at the same house. Because of secrets and decisions by others, they have not seen each other in 10 years and Hailey believes Luke broke her heart. Hailey is extremely angry at Luke and refuses to be friends with him. After some scary moments, their perspective changes and truths are revealed, and they quickly fall back in love. This has to be my favorite book by the author in this series. Hailey‘s character really resonated with me, especially the fact that she isn’t willing to make scary decisions and wants to always take the safe route. It isn’t until Luke helps her remember who she truly is and trust him not to let her down. Giving her trust over to him was very freeing. Her story is truly heartbreaking, especially when you find out what her mom did to her. I think would be really hard to forgive her. I thought Luke was so fun and sweet, but had this strong and sexy personality. He always had Hailey’s back and never fell out of love with her. I enjoyed the side suspense plot. I could see that it was going to happen so it wasn’t too much of a surprise. Of course the side characters were amazing and I actually liked Nate better in this book than his own book. It gave me a new perspective of him. The plot was intriguing, the romance was spicy, and tension of their forced proximity was perfect! The little snippet about the third book really intrigued me! Thank you to the author for this ARC for an honest review!
Memories With Fire is the second book to the With Fire series and for those that have not heard of it, I highly recommend giving this series a chance because we get firefighters falling in love 😍👨🏻🚒
Ten years ago, Hailey and Luke had fallen in love with each other however Luke had to leave Santa Rosé for his education. Fast forward to present, Hailey works as a paramedic at the Santa Rosé firehouse and until one day a new guy shows up… which turns out to be Luke! They both have not seen or spoken to each other for the past ten years hence the hatred towards Luke from Hailey and because everyone had caught on that there was history between them, the whole team had been scheduled to have a team bonding session with a tree top adventure. From then on everything had became history and feelings had been rekindled.
I was really really excited about this one since I’ve read the first book. I felt like this slow burn romance was worth it in the end! It really builds up the characters and story. Both Hailey and Luke were adorable! She tries so hard to hate him but deep down she truly cares and still has feelings for him. They definitely were made for each other and I just cannot believe how long it took them! I’m so glad their path had lead them back to each other. I love Hailey to bits but sometimes her character annoyed me as she doesn’t let anyone explain their reasons.. Girl, you need to give people a chance to talk and stop running away 😂 With Luke, now I understand why he left where he was. If I was him, I for sure would have done the same. There always seems to be a villain in every love story that stirs the pot! The most important part in this story is not just about finding love again but it’s also about trust 🧡 It’s also amazing to see how everyone at the firehouse has such a strong bond 🔥
Within the first few pages of this book, I knew that I was going to finish it quickly. I’ll admit it’s very hard for me to like second chance romances, but this has to be one of my favorites so far.
I loved Hailey and Luke. My heart broke for Hailey and all she had been through in her past and when Luke came back, I was definitely team Hailey for sure. However, little by little we see her come out of her shell and we see a new side of her.
While Hailey likes to play it safe, Luke loves adventure and the adrenaline that comes with it. His love for Hailey never went away and he would do anything to protect her. However, he did leave a complicated life and it followed him to Santa Rosé.
Reasons for their separation all those years ago come to light. The suspense and twists in this book had me on the edge of my seat. I just had to keep reading to find out what was going to happen next. I loved the flow of the story and the progression of Luke and Hailey’s relationship.
We get to read about the group from Living With Fire and I was so excited to read about Nate, Savanna, Liam, Brody, Quinn and Jordan. They were great characters in this book as well.
Overall, I loved this book and the suspense that came with it. I would 100% recommend it, especially if you love a spicy, second chance, workplace, firefighter romance!
Thank you Tamara Rene and Luna Literary Management for the ARC for an honest review.
I feel a bit lost and empty since finishing Memories with fire.
Being back in Santa Rosè fuelled my soul one that had felt empty until returning for a second chance Romance like no other
Being back in Santa rosè were some of the best days, getting lost in characters that felt like old friends . Our MMC Luke Reyes what a freaking man he was. I loved everything about Luke ,.I mean he's from Texas ( everything is bigger in texas *wink wink*) . He was a character that I'd been so very excited to meet and boy he didn't disappoint,
I was hooked from the very moment we were introduced to him , he had a killer personality and those comebacks were top tier especially my favourite "salty brews". Luke was a character that felt very relatable he was a man that had felt the weight of loosing his true love 10 years ago.
Our FMC Hailey Wagner is one of stations 9's best paramedics . Hailey is a character that truly came our her shell and evolved into a badass . At the Beginning of Memories with fire hailey was scared to go after the things that made her soul sing and lived in fear especially since loosing the one thing that made her feel brave Luke.
I absolutely loved Hailey and Lukes story it was an absolute joy to be part of seeing them find their way back to eachother and them make up for lost time and moments was absolutely worth every emotion I felt whilst reading this truly magical second chance Romance
This is an auto-read author and series right here! Seriously…. Read this book now!!!! 5⭐️/ 4🌶️ This book was a wild rollercoaster… but in the best way! You are falling in love one minute, then jaw on the floor dreading what’s happening the next minute, then relieved & breathing again, then terrified with some new crazy event, then relieved again and hopeful for the future. I was a ball of emotions this entire book— giggling & kicking my feet during the swoony, spicy moments…riding high. Then in disbelief and yelling “nooooo!”… heart plummeting in despair. I literally messaged the author telling her it was the best kind of torture! Ha ha. But it was such a fun ride! It killed me to put it down last night to get some rest, when I was 30% of the way in (at 2am). And if I didn’t have responsibilities & have to #momitup, I would’ve read it straight through today without stopping. I cannot recommend this one enough. It has everything that I personally love in a book— romance, dreamy MMC’s, swoony lines that make you fall in love, spicy scenes that make you want to grab your man and have your own moment (#iykyk), twists & mystery that you never see coming, drama that makes you angry but makes the good parts sooo rewarding, hilarious laugh-out-loud moments, found family, witty banter, vulnerability & emotion, character-building, and just overall GOOD characters that you’re rooting for a happily-ever-after for. 🩷
I really enjoyed reading this book, I wish I would of read the first one as well, will go back and read it and this again I believe. This was a very heartfelt love story that will pull at your emotions. An easy read didn't want to put it down because I had to find out what the next twist would be.
Your characters Luke and Hailey see each other after 10 years of no communication at all. They went separate directions due to secrets and decisions of others in their lives without confronting each other and the secrets.
Hailey could not believe when she saw him walk into her firehouse, she is an EMT and he is a firefighter, he broke her once she will not allow it again.
Luke is a hot firefighter, who is sweet and caring and he truly cares about Hailey but because of the pain of the past they avoid each other, until the captain makes them do tasks together.
Will Luke help Hailey heal heart from the last, will they finally let the past rest and find what could be a future?
My favorite line, "I promise to fight for you, even when others won't, because we fight for what we believe in and I believe in you." (Luke is my new book boyfriend)
Thank you Tamara Rene and Luna Literary Management for the ARC for an honest review
🚨 Firefighter x Paramedic ❤️🔥 Second Chance Romance 🚨 "It's Always Been You" ❤️🔥 Slow Burn 🚨 Found family ❤️🔥 Play-It-Safe FMC x Golden Retriever MMC
What a good second chance romance. It was so well written, i had the impression to be with them in the story. It’s my first book by Tamara and clearly not my last. I will read the first book to get to know the couple in it, but Memories with fire is a complete standalone where you’re not obligated to read the first book to understand and dive into the story.
Luke and Hailey. I love them. I wouldn’t have chosen another kind of story for them. It’s like they needed everything they went through to find their way back to each other. The story is filled with secrets, drama, traumas and firehouse crew camaraderies. Every time I thought they were done going through a twist, another I didn't see coming came up and it kept me hooked so much I read it in one sitting. When the truth was revealed about how they had lost contact in the past, I was fuming baaad but the need to know what was next kept me in the loop. Their feelings are so raw and valid. Hailey thinks that she needs to hate him to keep her heart safe and Luke always tells himself that he never got over her, it made them perfect. Once they found their way back together, it was fast, hard and deep, I loved it. I usually prefer a fast spacing story more than a slow burn, but this story was very well balanced.
Please check the trigger warnings. As someone who worked in the emergency services department, it might not contain heavy subjects for me but for other people, emotions are valuable and your mental health matters. ❤️🔥
Thank you Luna and Tamara for the arc opportunity!
First off i would like to thank Tamara for the opportunity to read & review this gifted E-Arc.
Hailey & Luke. Y'all this book!? Let me just say get freaking ready for Luke! He is that MAN! 🤪. I absolutely adore everything about this two. I love watching Hailey come out of her shell and grow into who ahe was always ment to be. I loved watching hed stand up for herself and holding her own when necessary. I loved how Luke always wanted Hailey and went for it when he knew it would be hard and fought for her anyway. I loved that he never hide his emotions and always was vulnerably with Hailey. I loved watching these two reconnect and build their bond back up and was honest and raw with each other. These two are the definition of soulmates.
5/5 Recommend this book. Y'all i cant explain or express enough how well Tamara killed ot with this freaking book. Its just as great as the first book, but also different and refreshing. I love how she pulls at your emotions and makes you feel everything you want to feel while reading. I absolutely adore her so much and can't wait to watch her continue to knock it outta the park with her books. 💚
Second chance romances are popular for a reason, and Memories of Fire is a great foray into a couple reuniting after a demise of a relationship, and navigating all the complicated feelings that go along with that.
I loved Hailey and Luke as a couple in this book, however with just how in love they seemed to be first time around I found it hard to see just how both of them let it go the first time, without fighting for each other or even demanding an explanation. The reasoning on Hailey’s side especially felt really random and not exactly organic (for me of course). I also found the drama 3rd act happenings (no spoilers!) really out of the blue and slightly out of place - more that it was in for shock factor or drama rather than to move the story along.
That being said, I loved the navigation of Hailey and Luke’s relationship once they found their way back to each other and the dynamic of the fire station and paramedics. If you’re looking for an easy read, second chance romance with spice, Memories of Fire is for you.
*ARC reader honest review*
Thanks to Tamara Rene and Luna Literary for this ARC opportunity!
Well Tamara has made me fall in love with a blonde headed man! Luke and Hailey are a couple for the ages. Second chance romance with so many twists and suspense that you do not expect. Luke and Hailey were in love as young adults and unforeseen things happened to push them apart. Then 10 years later, he shows up in the firehouse that Hailey is a paramedic in, as the newest firefighter. Hailey tried her hardest to stay away because Luke hurt her all those years ago, but they keep getting thrown together everywhere they turn. The firehouse family is very protective of Hailey and a bit leery of Luke. So the found family is on point once again. These two had the best chemistry and it wasn’t something they could deny for very long. Luke and his swoony self was so protective of Hailey and truly cared about her. They both haven’t been able to move on from each other after all the years apart and so when they finally let down their walls, it makes for some hot spicy scenes. The chair…IYKYK. I was on the edge of my seat towards the end and cried my eyes out when we find out the truth! This book exceeded my expectations and I cannot wait for what else is to come for this firehouse!
Second Chance romance with two super sweet main characters. Hailey and Luke had a summer romance when they were 18 - and via "circumstances" (that would be a spoiler if I shared more...) they lost touch - but never stopped thinking of each other. 10 years later - Luke returns in hopes of reconnecting and they both end up working out of the same firehouse. We walk along with Luke and Hailey as we learn about their pasts - both the summer they fell in love and what happened in the after years and get to go on a wild ride as they reconnect. Luke's past returns to create some drama - not quite a 2nd act break up - but close. I thought the final bit of "drama" caused by Luke's past was a bit over the top - the story didn't really need it. I like that the "circumstances" are addressed. And I really liked learning alot about how the characters think and feel. There is some open door spice - but not till later in the book and then it doesn't take over the story. I loved the supporting characters so much! This is part of a series and while i haven't read the first and I don't think you NEED to - I'll def be going back and reading it and you should too! I can't wait for more!
I absolutely loved the first book in this series but I wasn’t as into this book. It was a good read and it kept my interested but I just didn’t feel the connection between the FMC and MMC. I really liked Luke, but he had so many secrets, I was happy when he started to open up. The reason Luke and Hailey lost touch was kind of anticlimactic and it felt a bit rushed. Hailey was a bit immature to me and I was so annoyed at how she acted during some situations. I did love the epilogue though, and their nicknames Dimples and Freckles were adorable.
Overall I thought it was a good second chance romance and I do like this group and I am curious about the couple in the next book!

“Maybe this is what she needs, but it’s the last thing I want. What about what I need? Because I need her. I need her like I need air to survive. I need her because without her I only go through the motions of living. I need her because I don’t feel complete without her.”
