Taking a job at Silver Bullet Security was supposed to give Abby a fresh start, not drop her into the middle of a secret shifter war.

One minute, Abby was planning a future with her husband. The next, she was divorced, devastated, and driving across the country to take a last-ditch secretary job at a private security firm in Seattle.

Living out of her car was hard.
Working under a grumpy tech genius who clearly hates humans was harder.
But Abby’s not about to quit—even if her new boss bites. Literally.

Chasing ghosts is a dangerous game, one that might cost Gage more than he can afford to lose.
It’s been five years since a covert mission went sideways and turned Gage into a shifter lab rat in a secret prison. Now, he’s running a security firm with his brother, pretending he’s fine.

He’s not.

And the new human secretary stationed outside his office door? She’s the last thing he needs—especially when she triggers the one word he’s been dreading for

Mate.

But when a ghost from his past resurfaces, Abby might be the only person who believes him—and the perfect target for revenge.

I think Moira Kane may be one of my new favorite authors.
I always like a grumpy main character. I really enjoyed Gage and Abby.
I will definitely be reading the next book

I really liked the main character. She had such a nice and consistent personality, stayed true to herself, and reacted in a way that felt authentic and fitting for everything that happened. I appreciated that she dealt with the revelation that she is Gages true mate in a believable way and was angry instead of just forgetting everything that happened prior and accepting a bite right away. Following her journey through the story was genuinely enjoyable.

I also liked that even though she had a rough time prior to moving to the new city with her divorce and ex-husband, the whole story didn’t constantly focus on her trauma or terrible past. It was mentioned just the right amount. There wasn’t any unnecessary self-pity, which made it so much more enjoyable to read.

I also really liked the MMC. His character development and the way he redeemed himself throughout the story felt honest and earned.

Overall, the pacing of the love story felt genuinely realistic. It unfolded gradually, in a way that made sense and allowed the emotions to build naturally, instead of jumping straight into an over-the-top, forever-and-always kind of love or, on the other hand, dragging it out endlessly.

I only gave 4 stars, because the plot (apart from the love story) isn’t really original. I feel like I have read several books with the exact same plot. Though I have to say, that the story has somewhat of an open ending and will continue in the next book. Maybe I will be surprised. We will see.

I am excited for the next books!!

Honestly the book pleasantly surprised me. The plot was well done, incredibly interesting for me and there was a perfect balance within the book which I appreciated. Overall it was pretty good

a bit like a bad version of Christine Feehan ghostwalkerz

Ok. It tried so hard on this book. It’s a fated mates story and the MMC is part of a group of shifters who have been experimented on. It feels very much like the ghostwalker series but without the chemistry and tension and just not as great writing. Maybe the series could improve as the plot gets more complex? Maybe this MMC is just the worst one?

Basically MMC pushed FMC away (while pulling her toward him), for a giant portion of the book. It’s not even that great of tension, just more of a “come on already” - that gets comedic at some point while also being annoying. Eventually the relationship irons out and the suspense storyline basically unravels with a scooby doo Velma reveal where, without very much context or effort, the FMC is like “tadaa! Here is what’s going on!” The book ends with a foundation for a cool series following the other characters but idk if I can convince myself to try another. This one was just not great.

DNF

I was really excited to read this book. I love shifter romance, and the plot seemed interesting enough to get me to download it. However, this book is so rough to get through that I only made it about 100 pages before I'd had enough. This book had practically no dialogue between characters and is mainly made up of confusing, misspelled, and never-ending internal monologues that suck the energy from the reader. This entire book could be so much better if the MMC and FMC actually talked to each other and showed some character development and progress in their relationship. This story was going nowhere and did nothing. There is zero reason for it to be as long as it is. I'm really disappointed because this is my first book by this author, and I had high hopes for discovering a new shifter series to obsess over. This book required a thorough spellcheck and editing pass before it was published.

Am I not complaining about the length of a romance novel right now? Heck no, because despite being 500+ pages, Relentless had nigh on immaculate pacing between the plot and the relationship building. This book didn't feel anything close to the length it actually was.

The relationship dynamics between Gage and Abby had so much chemistry, from beginning to end. The fact that Gage was immediately on his bullshit and Abby just consistently let him while maintaining her professional demeanor fit so well with all the drama. I absolutely loved it. I loved that it took so much for Abby to break and Gage was always there, making the attempt.

Like I said, the pacing was fantastic. I loved the suspense plot within this. There was just so much going on , so many threads, that I didn't know how it was going to get wrapped up at the end. The book certainly sets us up for a longer series with an overarching plot, which I'm begging for.

I love a good grumpy/sunshine when the grumpy only has a soft spot for his sunshine❤️ I wasn't sure about Gage at first because he was definitely on the @hole side of grumpy but after hearing his back story and understanding why he was the way he was I realized how hard he was fighting with himself and he grew on me. And once he stopped fighting it and went all in for his mate he was perfect! I also loved watching Abby's confidence grow and become a baddy who became in integral part of the team all on her own and not just Gage's mate. Overall it was a really good story and the suspense kept me on the edge of my seat! My only complaint is that now I have to wait for the next book to find out what happens next!

*If your wondering, the overall story was left unresolved but the couple from the book got their HFN and it looks like the next book will be Mason!

The push and pull was giving me whiplash. I already had issues with the hero being named “GAGE”, like it doesn’t give a Hunter or Griffin vibe, you know? Gage seems like they’re destined to be a douche. Which HE IS.

Oh, my God. I understand the trauma and everything. I get it, really. But. When it jeopardises someone else’s wellbeing?! Ugh Gage what a disappointment.

And the heroine, Abby. WHY ARE YOU SO FORGIVING, GURL HAVE SOME BACK BONE. He f*cked up like 4 times and every time she’s 🥺🥺🥺 I fowgivew hiwm 🥺🥺🥺🥺 ugh.

I’m interested to know more about the other guys. Levi and Ezra were interesting but the others especially Mason, we know nothing about. I loved Levi, he’s interesting.

But Gage?! What the ever-loving fark? 😭😭😭😭😭 I loved the angst and everything but he needed to grovel more. Abby needed to slap some sense into him ugh

I don’t usually read shifter romances because that’s not my style but this one was good! No third act breakup. The MCs were decently likable. Not a bad read.

Summary:
After her husband reveals that he is mated to a hyena shifter and divorces Abby and makes her go bankrupt, she moves all the way to Seattle to start a job at a security company owned by shifters. When she meets gage for the first time he immediately recognizes her as his mate. He hates himself tho and keeps it from her because he hates the fact that she’s human. He keeps it a secret from her until he ultimately can’t. They get together and start investigating the reason why so many female shifters have been disappearing lately.

hear me out - it’s a good story.

If you make it through the first 150 pages the story actually picks up. Not gonna lie it’s ALOT of internal monologues and not so much dialogue. Which is not a style I like. I want my characters to fight and talk and seem more real.
There are a number of grammatical errors really simple ones too where a sentence just needs a word fixed.

That all being said. Great story. After the first 150 pages which in my opinion we really don’t need the story picks up and the build between fated mates is catching and your waiting for the “ef it” moment.

I sincerely hope we get the other books in the series but as an author who recently had a baby I get it.

Genre: Paranormal Romance / Interspecies Romance

This story is everything I love in a fated mates romance — interspecies dynamics, sizzling chemistry, and that irresistible pull between destined lovers. The dual POV makes it easy to connect with both characters, giving a full view of their emotions and struggles.

The writing style is smooth and immersive, making it incredibly easy to dive right into the universe and lose track of time. Even though it’s part of a series of interconnected standalones, it stands perfectly on its own while still teasing glimpses of the wider world.

If you’re looking for an easy-to-read, emotionally satisfying romance with a touch of the supernatural, this one’s a must!

I liked it, even though I’m not a big fan of slow-burn in shifter romance.

I didn’t fully grasp the entire suspense plot (at some point all the “bad guys” names started blending together), but I know I need to keep reading the series for the full development, since I assume the same storyline will continue through the remaining books.

I would’ve loved more fluffy moments between the main couple—some domestic scenes after they finally decided to be together—but I still enjoyed it overall.

I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for the release of the second book in the series.

DNF with 30ish pages left…I just don’t care :(((((( This author can write and I really liked the characters and the idea but it draaaaged. The plot was a good idea but it felt a little sloppy at times and it was hard to care when we were given so much of it and not enough romance scenes. I like being dropped in a story but we probably needed a little more backstory and build up at the start of this one. Idk overall I love the MMC and there were some great moments but I felt like I was making myself read it

I absolutely loved this book! The f* last chapter has me shocked and wanting more. I can’t wait for more books to come out in the series and hopefully we find out more about all the guys and them finding their mates. I loved seeing the growth that both Gage and Abby go through throughout the book. The peeled oranges and candy bars ❤️ if you’re like should I read this; absolutely do, you will devour it and love it.

Such a well written slow burn

I usually don't read slow burns but I needed something and OMG I am in love with this book. At times the MMC pissed me off but such a worth reading. I love how well written this was and this book got me back into my shifter era. Can't wait for the next one.

Fmc was a such a real character. She went through so much but even though she was rock bottom she always was a bad ass.

Great start to a new series

This is one of the good paranormal romances and I gave read a bunch. Crisp and tense plotlines, excellent character developments snappy and snarky dialogue so what's not to like. I am looking forward to more Silver Bullet Security books...soon I hope! Get this book and enjoy getting lost for a few hours in a wonderful and mysterious urban paranormal romance.

The story had decent pacing, and it kept me engaged — but the plot twist was just plain dumb. The MMC seriously needed more therapy, and the FMC definitely needed time to process everything.

It didn’t even have a proper HEA; it was more of a “to be continued” — but with a different protagonist, since the next book follows another MMC.

Honestly, the ending felt like something out of a telenovela, which kind of cheapened some of the emotional struggle for me. Overall, an okay read.

I started the book, had turned a few pages and bang!! the book ended. I mean what the hell. The book was great. I loved reading it. The possessive energy around the MMC was thick. I loved the chemistry between the MMC and the FMC. The FMC was a genius.

The plot development was great and I loved how the story turned out. Cannot wait to start the second book. Definitely recommended.

Happy reading!!

I will be honest and say that the first 20% of the book tempted me to dnf, because it was a lot of information and it felt really slow, but I made a good decision and powered through. Later, I understood that it was all necessary in order to lay the ground for the plot to develop. I liked the relationship dynamics and the slow burn. It ended up being a good book, that I recommend! I’m looking forward to Mason’s book! 😍

Intrigue

I really like the premise of this book, and I feel like the slower pace was needed to lay the groundwork for wherever the series takes us. There were a few places that felt a bit too slow, but that could just be a me thing. The pace definitely picked up towards the end and we got more Veronica Mar vibes going. I’m really excited for the next book!

Not 1 of 1

The only reason this is 4 stars not 5 is because it ends with a cliff hanger, despite being labeled as 1 of 1. There is much of the story yet to be told. And that is maddening when you only intend on reading a stand alone book. And now there is no follow on books out yet to finish the story.

This book is all plot first and romance second which I love. The main characters actually get to know each other and have some great dialogue. The plot itself is interesting. I'm curious to see where this series goes in any followup books.

Brilliant book. I was not expecting this to keep me glued to my Kindle but I found it hard to put down! It was a great slow burn romance filled with mystery and suspense.

It does end on a cliffhanger with the main mystery still being unsolved by the end, but there is a HEA for Gage and Abby 🥰

Where can I get a Gage?

Spice: 4/5

I mean, I know they started off rocky but it just made the inevitable moment when they bonded that much hotter. I loved these two and I cant wait to see more of this crew.
