I really liked the main character. She had such a nice and consistent personality, stayed true to herself, and reacted in a way that felt authentic and fitting for everything that happened. I appreciated that she dealt with the revelation that she is Gages true mate in a believable way and was angry instead of just forgetting everything that happened prior and accepting a bite right away. Following her journey through the story was genuinely enjoyable.
I also liked that even though she had a rough time prior to moving to the new city with her divorce and ex-husband, the whole story didn’t constantly focus on her trauma or terrible past. It was mentioned just the right amount. There wasn’t any unnecessary self-pity, which made it so much more enjoyable to read.
I also really liked the MMC. His character development and the way he redeemed himself throughout the story felt honest and earned.
Overall, the pacing of the love story felt genuinely realistic. It unfolded gradually, in a way that made sense and allowed the emotions to build naturally, instead of jumping straight into an over-the-top, forever-and-always kind of love or, on the other hand, dragging it out endlessly.
I only gave 4 stars, because the plot (apart from the love story) isn’t really original. I feel like I have read several books with the exact same plot. Though I have to say, that the story has somewhat of an open ending and will continue in the next book. Maybe I will be surprised. We will see.
I am excited for the next books!!
