This story definitely needed to be told. I am pro shout your abortion/miscarriage. I’d say it’s required feminist reading. But I identify as a womanist. So. I think it leaned heavily on abortion as healthcare, the history of abortion, abortion legislation, etc when it is really a book about miscarriage, stillbirths and child loss due to medical necessity rather than choice abortion. And while yes even medically required abortions are abortions what about the mentally or socioeconomic or emotionally required abortions? Additionally while they did their best to be inclusive and mentioned a lot of statistics about women of color and birthing, I still think FOR ME, I need a more womanist rather than feminist approach to this topic.

This was very comprehensive (covered just about every angle of the issue I can think of?) and very well put together. I have a few friends who have gone through the losses described in this book and thought of them tenderly while moving through this, which I found to be both informative and interesting (not dry at all though sometimes maybe a bit millennial cringe).

The state of maternal health care in the US and the absurd “pro life” arguments that fall apart when you try to see if they actually care about any lives at all rather than just wanting to morally control women’s bodies…… oof. Very dire honestly. This book very well demonstrates all of the ways it goes wrong and approaches that would be more helpful when individuals are going through very complex choices, losses, grief and confusion.

A very timely and important read and I highly recommend.
