This book was surprisingly helpful. When I picked it up I was expecting it to be anther book about meditation, and maybe some dietary advice that may or may not be sound. But this book not only talks about the importance of the vagus nerve in regulating anxiety, but it teaches several different approaches to calming the nervous system including -breathing techniques, humming or singing, gargling, meditation, and grounding. It also talks about diet and the gut-brain connection. Overall good info.
I was glad I picked up this book as I was looking for something that would help with both stress relief and sleep improvement. This book has it all as it discusses the science, but does not overwhelm with it, but I found value in the techniques for mindfulness and relaxation. I can see myself trying these out as they look helpful and something I can incorporate into my daily routine.
I really enjoyed the tone of this book and its light-hearted message of taking care of our nervous system. As someone who has taken on a whole new level of stress recently, I appreciate the many methods and techniques shared, because none seem overwhelming — they all seem inviting and doable, which is exactly what I need.
