By day, I’m Miss Kerrington—beloved biology teacher at an elite prep academy. By night, I’m Chameleon, the assassin who can become anyone. I’ve mastered the art of disguise because being myself is far too dangerous. The real me is broken. Reckless. Unforgivable.
One day, gifts start appearing on my doorstep—each one paired with a haiku that slices straight through my defenses. He sees me. All of me. The blood on my hands. The vengeance in my heart. And the darkness I wear like silk.
He should terrify me. Instead, I crave him.
My stalker is the fantasy I can’t resist—devotion without risk, obsession without pain. He watches from the shadows and never asks for more. But the illusion of safety shatters when Tristan—my on-again, off-again salvation—steps between me and the danger closing in. The man I’ve pushed away may be the only one who can save me… or destroy me completely.
Now, the lines blur between hunter and prey, fantasy and fear. Because the most terrifying truth isn’t who he is— It’s what I’ll become when I finally catch him.
CHAMELEON is a dark, decadent standalone in the Deviant Assassin series—where seductive, morally gray women rule the underworld, and only the men who can handle the fire survive. Perfect for readers who crave obsession, revenge, and the dangerous kind of love that leaves scars.
Tropes: morally gray heroine · forbidden obsession · cat and mouse · revenge · antihero · found family
3.5 – 4 stars Chameleon by Alyndra Quinn and Jules Hunter is a dark and gripping thriller where each turn weaves a narrative rich with seduction, deception, deviousness, and high stakes and revenge. Even though it is the second book in the Deviant Assassin series, it is a standalone tale. I love a good story with morally grey characters, and this duo delivers. Steeped in mystery and shadows, the plot follows a high-stakes game of cat and mouse, and each twist reveals the darker aspects of human nature. This twisted tale is full of desires that are dangerous, sexy, erotic and sensually dark, igniting layers of intrigue and tension in its wake. Every page pulses with drama, passion and craving, which pulled me into a tumultuous whirlwind of obsession, suspense and emotional conflict. The multifaceted female central character faces formidable external enemies but also her inner struggles; the vivid descriptions and cleverly crafted plot twists ensure an experience that is nothing short of unforgettable. Will she survive this deadly game of cat and mouse between an assassin and a stalker? I eagerly await the next book in this series.
We are three years into the future from where we left off at the end of the last book. Tristan and Sable have been a thing for a while. For Sable, they are just casual. For Tristan, this could be the beginning of something more. He just has to tell her. Due to Sable’s history, he isn’t sure.
One day when out on a job, Sable sees her old nemesis. Carmen, the daughter her father chose, tortured her during high school. Sable didn’t realize that Carmen was her half-sister until recently. This has tilted Sable’s world. She must find a way to make Carmen pay for everything, especially when she starts coming after Sable now.
While Tristen is fighting for Sable’s heart, there is a new player on the field. A sentinel. This sentinel leaves her presents, and understands the side Sable is scared to show to Tristen. The sentinel appears to always be there, watching, protecting. When Carmen sends a hired professional after Sable, the sentinel takes care of it. When Carmen goes after some students at the school, the sentinel steps in and thwarts that. He always seems to be around. Sable just doesn’t know who he is.
As things heat up between Tristen and Sable, the sentinel stands in the background. Tristen and Sable are trying to figure it out. Can they be more than just FWB? Can Sable get past all the trauma? As Sable and Tristen try to figure out who the Sentinel is, he gets closer and closer to Sable.
Although a fantastic read, with all the twists and turns, I see through the different authors perspectives on things. Sometimes they fight with each other and the feeling to the characters are off. I am sure I will read book three when it comes out.
A second book to a world this author has already introduced some readers too, has me staying up way past my bedtime to read it. Chameleon doesn’t need to be read with that other book; it's fine on its own. A beginning of a new series that the reader won’t want to wait to dive into! A dark world of assassins, stalkers, and death it gives the reader something to obsess over while reading the story. Sable is cracking and she silently feels she’s going crazy, just like her mother. Weird things start to happen to her and in her home. That she opts to keep to herself. Which is starting to worry those at Umber. Having an unstable asset means it would need to be eliminated. So hopefully she can rein it back in. However, finding out her childhood bully is really her half sister sends her on her own mission. She intends to make her bully suffer, but she doesn’t realize that hiding in the shadows is the one who wants her. Has no idea how much her stalker is responsible for. How much of the life planning and the lengths that will be needed to get what's wanted Tristan knows she’s off. He knows his Sable, however he didn’t pay much attention until asked about it. Tristan loves her, but how can he love a killer just like himself and not compromise either one of them. From a distance. He feels something is coming so he will be here for her. By declaring she’s his he vows to kill anyone who tries to tear them apart. How much of Sable’s side quest will derail what they have? What problems does her stalker stir up? A new book, the beginning of a series. I look forward to reading other books in the future. So check it out if you haven't already. You won’t regret it!
This is the second book in the series but can be read as a stand alone. I recommend reading the first one if you haven't already. However, you can read this one first and then go back and read the beginning of the series. If you love some dark romance, this book is for you. It has the angst, steam (like fan your face steam), fast paced, forbidden love, stalker, dangerous situations, and steam (yes, I put that again because it is worth mentioning twice). This book was a very fast paced read for me because I couldn't put it down, I tried but I needed to know what was going to happen. The characters have this push and pull dynamic that makes for some of the best angst that I have read in a while. I love a good push and pull between characters. There is some serious stalking in this book which adds to the dangerous situations but will have you on the edge of your seat trying to figure out what is going to happen next. There is the take on the main characters relationship and what they are doing and then there are side quests that are taken by the characters which help develop a really good story line and keeps the words flowing from page to page. If you haven't read the first book, you are going to want to after reading this one. Also, best thing is if you picked this one up first, you wouldn't know it was part of series. That is the true definition of stand alone. This just means you get more of the angst with another book and who couldn't love that.
Chameleon is an assassin and an extremely good one at that, her specialism is disguise, she can become anyone, even down to their personality and she does it with ease, but what nobody knows is why she is so good at it and that is because inside she is broken, damaged and shattered beyond repair, destroyed by the darkness she has become.
However, during the day, she is Ms Kerrington, a biology teacher at an elite prep academy where she is seen as quiet, unassuming and all the students love her but so does another teacher who works there, Tristan, someone reliable, warm and safe, but also someone who Chameleon cannot let to near in case her darkness envelops him too.
One day, gifts start appearing on her doorstep, gifts which speak to the darkness within her, accompanied by haiku's which show that she is seen and understood and soon, this leads to a feeling of being watched, observed and soon, Chameleon is engaged in a dangerous game of cat and mouse with the stalker whose obsession is bordering on insanity.
Soon, Tristan finds out about it all and decides to step in and protect her from the stalker and her own darkness, but will she let him stop her, or will she finally become the darkness from which there is no salvation? This is an extremely dark romance where deception, darkness and obsession combine leading to a dangerously combustible mix of passion and love within an assassins world.
This is the first book I’ve read by the author. Chameleon is the second book in the Deviant Assassin Series. I must say this book had me on the edge of my seat while reading. You never knew what you were going to read next. One moment it could be a sexy scene then someone is off killing someone else in the next scene. I highly recommend reading this book!
Sable is a Chameleon and she can change her appearance. She is also a teacher and loves her job. Or should I say jobs. Teacher by day killer by night. She plays out her fantasies and Tristan is her main subject. Then she finds out that her old high school bully was right about one thing. Her father never wanted her. She tells Tristan: “God, Tristan, you sound like a Hallmark card. You trained me. Taught me how to snap a trachea. We’re weapons pretending at warmth.”
Tristan is a teacher, but not only at the academy. He teaches others how to kill. He wants only one thing. Sable. But he isn’t aware that one of his former students wants her as well. What will he do to keep her for himself? Like Sable he is a teacher by day and another kind of teacher by night. He tells her: “You’re wrong. Your name’s Chameleon. Because you survive everything.”
Mira is a normal Biology teacher in the day but at night becomes an assassin who seeks revenge and retribution with every turn of the page. Although she is safe in the fact that when she becomes the "Chameleon" she blends into the background and wonders through the city untouched as she has a power to change herself into what she wants.
But, Chameleon has a stalker someone who at firsts Mira is charmed that someone sees her for her but as the twist and turns in the story continue, she is not sure who to trust in the end and this includes herself in the mix.
This is the second book in the Deviant Assassin series but this book can be read as a stand alone story. I love the way the book meanders through the moral and challenge this is for Mira to navigate through, while she is helping people through the Chameleon, no-one really knows her truly and the vulnerability she shows through the story is brilliant to read.
As always the pace that Alyndra sets is quick but manages to always drive the story forward and keeping you engaged and turning the pages to see the next twist and turn. This as always id a great book and delves into a world of sci-fi but not to be out there.
I can't wait to read the next instalment in this series.
Chameleon (Deviant Assassin Book) by Alyndra Quinn. This is a dark, fast paced, thriller romance. It's the second book in the Deviant Assassin series but is a standalone. It's the story of female assassins who run the underworld and their fierce loyalties determine their stance on all things. It follows one teacher by day assassin by night and the assassin has a stalker. Sable begins to have strange things happen to her and she starts to think she is crazy. She thinks she has a bully and thinks she knows who it is and she is going to make her pay what she doesn't know is its her stalker and he "Tristan" sees every move she makes. Tristan is in love with Sable but he knows they can not make it as a couple with both of them being assassins. Tristan vows to protect Sable no matter what it takes and he will do anything to have her. Knowing she should be scared of her stalker, Sable actually craves him and wants nothing more than him. This is a fast paced thriller, dark romance. Even though this is a standalone I always recommend reading the books in order.
This book is wild in the absolute best way. It leans all the way into its dark vibe and never apologizes for it, which honestly made the whole experience feel even more addictive. The world these authors built is sharp, chaotic, and full of characters who are dangerous, damaged, and impossible to look away from. The female assassins steal the show with their ruthless confidence and complicated inner lives, and the morally messy men orbiting them only make things more twisted and entertaining.
What surprised me most was how much humor the authors managed to weave in without breaking the tension. The banter in the author notes alone gives you a perfect snapshot of the tone you’re getting into. One minute you’re cringing at how dark the story gets, the next you’re laughing at how unhinged everyone is. It works.
This series is definitely not for the faint of heart, but if you love intense plots, messy characters, high stakes, and a story that pushes boundaries, it delivers. It is fast, chaotic, dark, and absolutely fun to read.
This is the second book in the Deviant Assassins series. These books can be read as standalones however I think once you read one you will want to read them all. This is a romance suspense with so many additional elements, such as forbidden love, danger, a stalker, the need for revenge, secrets and lies and so much more all set in the world of powerful female assassins which makes the story really unique. There are some dark elements to the story as well but for me it all adds into an enjoyable page turning read. In this story we are with Miss Kerrington biology teacher by day and the deadly assissian Chameleon by night. But what happens when the predator becomes the prey? When she realises she has a stalker at first she craved him however things take a turn when her on-off partner Tristan gets involved placing himself between her and what could be danger. What will happen when lines blurr and the man she keeps pushing away has the power to either save her or destroy her? And how will she react when the identity of the stalker is finally revealed?
Assassin's, stalkers, death, romance, and steam. There is a bit if everything in this book it seems. A biology teacher by day turned assassin by night, Sable is the master of disguise. Odd things start happening around her which she at first brushes off. Then gifts start appearing on her doorstep. She should be running from the danger but instead she wants to embrace it. Sable may have been saved from herself by her on again off again boyfriend Tristen. He wants more than a friends with benefits relationship but she isn't quite ready to take that step. There is also her stalker hiding in the shadows waiting for the right moment to make himself known. I have read books by one of these authors on their own but I feel it's time to read mkre from the other. While this is part of a series it is easily read as a standalone. I will highly recommend reading the first one as it is just as good as this one. Both were hard to put down once you pick them up so it is recommended that you pick a time when you don't have anything important happening.
This author is one of my favourite, go-to authors who never fails to capture me with their stories. The first book in this new series completely caught my attention and I knew I absolutely had to read the next one. As soon as I started this book I couldn’t put it down and ended up finishing it all in one sitting. I loved the characters in this book. As with the first one, they all feel so complex and intriguing, each adding something different to the overall story. I loved the way this whole book was written, which I knew I would from the moment I saw the authors notes in the description. I love the dark and intense feeling you get from this book and how it isn’t afraid to touch on subjects that others would steer clear from. The book can be read as a standalone but I can highly recommend reading all of the books in the series. Even though we are only two books in, I know this is going to be one of those series I cannot stop thinking about.
This is the second book in the Deviant Assassin Series but it is also a standalone tale. But the first one is really good too, so don't forget to read that one too!! I have to say I love my morally grey characters and this duo definitely delivers. You have dark and gripping thriller where each turn weaves a narrative rich with seduction, deception, deviousness, high stakes and don't forget the revenge. It has a great balance of all the good things I love in a book!! You have the high stakes games of cat and mouse, the twists and turns and dark aspects, the dangerous, sexy, erotica and darkness within it. I couldnt put this book down! Every page had me turning to find out what was happening. I become obsessed with the drama and passion, I started to crave it and obsessing I was going to miss something if I put the book down. So do you think she will survive the deadly game of cat and mouse between an assassin and a stalker!? I cant wait for the next book in this series!!
Okay the fact that I am wearing my “Morally Grey is my favorite color” hoodie while writing this is chef’s kiss. The skill that Alyndra Quinn and Jules Hunter have to seamlessly write books together and made perfect to the point that if it wasn’t for both names on the front, you would never know it was written by two and not one is beyond talented. I’ll admit book one of this series was my first morally grey heroine and I gotta say new favorite trope, thank you both. While each book is a standalone, I still recommend reading them because perfection needs shared to all. Miss Kerrington is like all teachers of the world; she has a life outside of the classroom. Granted hers is a little more extreme and full of gray but hey it’s a book accept it extremes and ride the rollercoaster that awaits you. Each book gets better and better. The ups, downs, twists and turns. Sorry for the rush but book three, Malice, came out today and I’m behind so I’ll see you there.
This is the second book in this series that I enjoyed reading. This is a book that can be read as a stand alone but I highly suggest reading the previous book as well. I enjoy this author’s creative writing skills that make their characters pop. This is a darker stalker story that is well written and hard to put down. A story where lines blur and women rule. I enjoyed all the characters in this story. They are strong, engaging and supportive of each other. Some of them are broken, some are dangerous but together they are spicy and heat up pages. I also enjoyed watching the growth of the story which for me made it easy to read. I found this to be a fast paced, well rounded story where the author used details to give the story a realistic feel. I really enjoyed reading this book and look forward to seeing what is next for this author. I highly recommend this book.
Chameleon is the 2nd book in this series; however, I read it as a stand alone coming in with no prior knowledge of what the first book entailed. I don’t feel like I missed anything but would have liked to start with book 1 just for my own reasons.
Book was amazing and well written; I had a hard time putting it down once I got started on it. Assassins, stalkers, death, romance, a little spicey!
Sable starts having some odd things happen to her at home which makes her question if she’s going to wind up like her mother, which she will have to keep under wraps if she wants to keep her life. After finding out that someone who bullied her is related to her throws her off into her own personal mission outside her normal tasks.
Tristan can feel the tension/unstableness of Sable, but has to figure out how to balance a relationship with her and both of their jobs.
What issues will arise from Sables personal mission? Will Tristan and Sable be able to balance their lives to be more in line with each other?
I am new to this author, but it was recommended to me and I am glad I gave her a chance! This is the second book in this series, but can be read as a standalone. However, I recommend reading the first book first. This book is a dark romance with stalking, forbidden love, lots of juicy steam, dangerous fast paced situations, and lots of angst! This book hooked me from start to finish! I was on the edge of my seat the whole time and couldn’t put it down! I love the dynamic between the characters! I loved all the twists and turns of the dangerous situations and not knowing what would happen next, I was very surprised on a lot of the scenes! This book has a great story line and keeps interest easily! This series has easily become one of my new favorites and I look forward to seeing what the rest of the series brings. I will be checking out other books by this author for sure!
This book had a lot for me to unpack after I finished reading it. Carmen, Chad, Tristan and Sentinel are just a few of the people involved.
Sable is a teacher by day and an assassin by night. Her back story helped her become the deadly weapon she is.
Tristan aside from the assassin is really a great guy, but even that doesn't take away the goodness in his heart, especially once you know him and his back story.
I was kept guessing about the Sentinel and his true identity until it was revealed. I did not see that one coming at all
Aside from the mysteries there were some pretty intense spicy moments and those were on par for this author and everything I had read previously
I cannot wait to get into this next book. I'm definitely interested to see how this next one plays out.
Chameleon, Book 2 in the Deviant Assassin series, is a thrilling blend of dark romantic suspense and high-powered action. Living up to its title, this novel features complex characters who constantly shift allegiances and conceal their true motives, keeping the tension razor-sharp from the first page. The story drops readers directly into a dangerous world where the line between killer and protector is blurred. Quinn excels at pairing heart-pounding suspense—involving deadly plots and shadowy organizations—with intense, steamy romance. Readers who enjoy a dominant, protective hero and a heroine who is resilient but navigating a web of secrets will be completely hooked. If you're looking for a fast-paced romantic thriller with high heat and a plot full of unexpected betrayals, Chameleon delivers a gripping ride that demands attention until the final, explosive reveal.
Chameleon is the second book in the Deviant Assassins series by Alyndra Quinn and Jules Hunter. It is a steamy, romantic suspense with a forbidden romance, obsession, major stalker vibes, dramatic developments, danger, mystery, secrets, a cat and mouse game, high stakes, tension, angst, chemistry, spice, and darker tones/elements. Building on the foundation laid by Wraith, this sequel continues to explore the razor-edged lives of formidable female assassins whose intelligence, skill, and complex loyalties drive the series forward. Even still, this can be read as a standalone without feeling like you are missing anything. But, be warned, you might just find it whets your appetite for more and get your ‘one-click’ finger primed in search of Book #1. Happy Reading…
4 Stars Chameleon by Alyndra Quinn and Jules Hunter
Chameleon is the second book in the Deviant Assassin’s Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a dark steamy suspense Romance that once you start reading there’s no stopping until you’ve finished. Holy Cow what a intense but totally satisfying read. The characters are raw, gritty, developed intense and exactly what this story needed to pop it off the pages. I was on the edge of my seat turning the pages trying to figure out what was going to happen next. This book had my heart racing and I was on alert but in a good way. I highly recommend reading this book to find out what happens next. I can’t wait to read more from this Author.
Chameleon by Alyndra Quinn is a darkly seductive thrill ride that refuses to let go.
From the very first line the novel pulls you into Miss Kerrington’s double life, balancing the quiet respectability of a beloved teacher with the razor-sharp danger of an assassin who can become anyone.
Quinn delivers a perfect blend of suspense, obsession, and aching vulnerability. The stalker’s devotion is chilling yet magnetic, while Tristan’s reappearance raises the stakes in a way that feels both inevitable and devastating. Every twist is laced with danger and desire, making this a book you’ll inhale in one sitting.
Alyndra Quinn has crafted a story that is equal parts shadow and silk—intense, addictive, and impossible to put down.
This was a great 5 star read. This was a thrilling read that pulled me right in, I didn't want to put it down. Sable starts to experience some unexplained things that concern her. She gets some shocking news about someone who bullied her in the past. Tristan is trying to be there for her. I really enjoyed reading about their story and relationship. There was so much in this read darkness, romance, steaminess and so much more. I will warn that there may be triggers for some. Overall I really enjoyed this book. It is book 2 in a series but you can read it as a standalone. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series. 1-click and get started today.
Oh my! Spicy. Exciting. Blush-worthy! Tense! Dangerous! Yes, all of that and more.
This is a great read! There is a book one to this series, but this one read just fine without needing to read the first one. I loved it and am absolutely going to read the first book in the near future.
I have always loved the will we, won’t we drama, the we shouldn’ts, we can’t, it’s not allowed, type of romances. The fast pace, dangerous, chemistry filled pages move this book alot quick!
It’s a great read; pages practically turn themselves and I highly recommend you pick up this book! Sable is by far one of my favorite characters and I am excited to read more about her and her world.
Chameleon by Alyndra Quinn was a dark, addictive read with a seriously compelling lead. Miss Kerrington is not your average teacher—she’s a deadly assassin with a broken past and a talent for hiding in plain sight. I loved how the story balanced her double life with the creepy tension of someone watching her, leaving haikus and gifts that hint they know everything.
The stalker angle added a psychological edge that kept me guessing, and the chemistry between Kerrington and Tristan was intense and messy in the best way. The writing was sharp, and the emotional layers made it more than just a thriller. I’m definitely hooked on this series and excited to see what Alyndra Quinn does next.
Chameleon is a dark, decadent standalone in Quinn’s Deviant Assassin series, where we revisit the world where bold, morally gray women rule the underworld and only the men strong enough to handle the women who can do it all. This book is an 11 on the dark romance scale, deep diving into the criminal underworld, unredeemable heroes, and the power games and alliances that can make or break people. This book takes on the best themes from dark romance: obsession, desire, and revenge. If you want a book that is intense, deviant, and heroine-led, then this is the book series for you to add to your TBR.
What an amazing book. I may have found a new favorite author. Where to start.. the characters were fabulously depicted. Their personalities really shine through in this book. You could feel each feeling of the characters, what they were thinking, and why. The world building was just as great. I swear it seemed like I was watching a movie instead of reading a book. It had a unique plot that I believe many romance and mystery lovers would enjoy. Sable and Tristan are assassins that are fantastic at their job. They find comfort in each other amongst the difficulties they face with their jobs. I would highly recommend to anyone. A terrific novel.
This is book two of the Deviant Assassin Series. The Chameleon is better known as Sable Kerrington. At a young age she was made to feel invisible and not worthy of anyone’s attention and or love. However, Sable has found herself by becoming others. During the day she is Ms. Kerrington ( a beloved teacher) however at night she turns into an assassin who can change personalities, hence why she is called the Chameleon. Lately though she had been distracted by things that didn’t seem to be there before and she senses that someone is watching her every move. This is a very page turning mystery/thriller that I can’t seem to put down.
Chameleon is the kind of story that grabs you by the throat and makes sure you feel every single second of it. Alyndra didn’t just write a book — she crafted a world that’s dangerous and seductive.
I loved how raw and unapologetic this story is. There’s no sugarcoating. No pretending. These characters bleed, they fight, they hide, they burn. The tension? Electric. The twists? Sharp. And the way identity and survival are woven through everything? Love.
This book is dark, but it’s also beautiful in that “this is going to hurt and I’m still choosing it” kind of way.
Sable is ms Kerrington, a prep school teacher by day, and Chameleon, an assassin at night. Slowly she’s losing her touch. Weird things are happening around the house and she has a stalker. She decides to keep it all to herself. Tristan, her on again off again, knows something is up. Yet he continues to push for something more than just the casual they have been. This is the second in the series. I didn’t read the first and it can be read as a stand alone. It has all the things. Suspense. Sexy. Mystery. Cat and mouse. Push and pull. This is my first read by this author and I enjoyed it.
