Could be worse, I guess. Like…bats in the attic? Though bats don’t rip your panties and ruin you for all other men.
How did this happen?
My sister married the prince he protects, so I now have an extra room and insisted my friend stay with me when she left her husband.
Her husband is being a real a-hole about that.
Which made the bodyguard all growly and he moved in to protect us.
That sounds nice, I know. But he’s my ex.
And when his best friend married my sister, we agreed to do the mature adult thing and avoid each other for the rest of our lives.
Now he’s sleeping down the hall, walking around looking delicious, talking with that panty-melting accent, just…taking care of me.
And giving my friend pep talks, making her little boy airplane-shaped pancakes, and making her jerk ex sorry.
So, I really can’t be blamed for what happens in the shower—he should have been quieter if he didn’t want company—or against the wall in the kitchen.
But here’s the thing: the royals are the family he never had growing up. He’ll never quit. And I’ve spent the past sixteen years helping my sister raise her daughter. Now's my chance to finally go to law school—which can't happen here in my tiny hometown.
So, we need to help my friend and nothing more.
We can’t be reckless. Not with where we take our clothes off. Not with our words. And certainly not with our hearts.
Erin Nicholas is the New York Times bestselling author of over sixty sexy contemporary romances. Her stories have been described as toe-curling, enchanting, steamy and fun.
She lives in the Midwest with her husband who only wants to read the sex scenes in her books, her kids who will never read the sex scenes in her books, and family and friends who say they’re shocked by the sex scenes in her books (yeah, right!).
I loved, loved this romance of two people who love with their whole hearts and who never put themselves first. Ruby and Henry are portrayed as real, relatable people who have wounds and flaws, but are really just trying to do their best as messy humans living complicated lives. I was feeling all the deep emotions in this book along with both of them. Henry has spent the last 12 years being the bodyguard of Cian, the youngest prince to the Cara throne. Cian is the fun loving laid-back playboy and the one that has had no royal responsibilities so Henry’s job was to corral him and keep him safe. Scarlett has spent the last 15 years helping her twin sister, Scarlett, raise her daughter Mariah. Now that Cian and Scarlett are married to each other and started a foundation together, Henry and Ruby are feeling a bit superfluous. Ruby intends to go to law school in New Orleans but Henry feels it’s his duty to stay in Emerald, Ohio with Cian. So despite the big feelings between the two of them it appears a forever relationship is not possible. The journey to their HEA included sweet moments, spice, snort worthy laughs, supportive friends and families, a quirky gossipy small town, baggage unpacking, life course correction, and all the heart squeezing love. As always, Erin Nicholas makes a romance so much deeper than spicy spice and swoons and she got us there with witty dialogue, three dimensional characters who grow, and an engaging storyline. While this book can be read as a standalone, part of the Henry and Ruby’s story is in Rags to Royal so to get the most enjoyment out of this book, the series should be read in order.
Henry and Ruby, sitting in a tree, K-I-S-S-I-N-G... well, a bar, a house, two kitchens, a bathroom and once or twice a bedroom! lol I will say that I, too, want very much to punch Henry's father right in the face! That part of this story about broke my heart, and yes there were tears. I'm so glad he told Ruby. I am also very glad for Iris not being very Iris-y and reminding Henry that he was part of the family, too. And nice hinting Erin Nicholas! I can't wait for Iris' story (unless we get Declan and Astrid's first).
This book picks up right after the end of the prior book, and is about Henry, the bodyguard/best friend of Prince Cian, and Ruby, the twin sister of Cian's new wife, Scarlett. Both Henry and Ruby are protectors and caretakers. I wasn't sure how Henry would split his attention between Cian and Ruby, since Ruby plans to leave the tiny town of Emerald now that Scarlett is settled. But never fear, Ms. Nicolle/Nichols makes sure they get to their HEA. She even includes visits to Autre, and the Landry clan! Can't wait for the next book.
Good grief! Every book in this series that I’ve read is so much better than the first - when it was absolute perfection!!!! I love ALL the characters and the setting. Everything is absolutely awesome!! I cannot wait for more installments in this series. It will be wonderful.
This is book 4 in Nicolle's Royals Gone Rogue series. A wonderful addition to the series that can be read / listened to as a standalone. I absolutely love this book and this series. Well written and perfectly narrated. Our dual narrators bring our characters to life in the best of ways and exude all the emotions they feel as well. Our main characters are Henry and Ruby. Henry is the best friend and bodyguard to royal Cian and Ruby is the twin sister to Cian’s wife - their story is in book 3. I love how both of these characters are loyal and dedicated to the ones they love the most and that loyalty makes it hard if not impossible to put themselves first. I adored the support Henry gets so he knows his happiness is just as worthy and valuable as the family he protects and the trip to New Orleans and the bayou boys was a delight! I also loved how Henry was so bossy, and the wind gets taken from his sails when he tries to come in and save the day. He is such a wonderful character and Ruby is a perfect balance for him. A perfect read / listen, I can't wait for more!!!
This book was given to me for free at my request thanks to HCB and I voluntarily provided this review. *this review is based on the audio version of this read.
Dual POV Royal romance Bodyguard Second chance (ish)
Duet Narration - Zachary Johnson & Maeve York **new to me narrators and they were amazing.
What a fun and cute listen. The story is engaging and entertaining. Well written and developed. I fell for these characters immediately.
This book picks up right after the ending of the previous book about Prince Cian and Scarlett. Henry is Prince Cians best friend and bodyguard and Ruby is the twin sister to Scarlett the princes new wife.
These two have a history and Henry wants to be with Ruby but she isn’t on board right away. Reading their journey to their HEA was an absolute joy. I am looking forward to more from this author and in this series.
Henry and Ruby had a thing while Cian and Scarlett were figuring things out, but Ruby knows that Henry’s first priority will always be Cian. So Ruby tries to quit Henry cold turkey, but as soon as Henry hears that any danger is around Ruby, he’s there under the guise of "Ruby’s the sister to his charge’s wife", and protection extends to family as well. Only this time, Ruby wants to be put first, and Henry tries to find a way to make it work. That is, until Cian and Scarlett get hurt when Henry’s not there, and he rushes away.
Ruby and Henry get their happy ending in this standalone book in a series.
Henry was such a caregiver, and I wonder how much money Ruby ended up with to give to charity, given how much Henry seemed to spoil her. It would be interesting to know how Ruby uses her new degree, but not having to worry about money. I could see her helping many women through the organization her sister started pro bono. I’m sad to see the end of the Rogues, but I can’t wait for the last sibling’s love story and to see how conflicted Declan was about everything when the author gets around to sharing his story!
There’s a saying, “The course of true love never runs smoothly,” or something like that. Isn’t that the truth? Prince Cian and Scarlett are getting their happy ever after, but Scarlett’s twin sister Ruby and Cian’s best friend and bodyguard Henry are facing a rough road. Their attraction is flaming hot and they were a thing for a while but when Cian and Scarlett got together they decided to do the mature thing and never see each other again. Might be difficult with her the sister and him the bodyguard but seemed like the best idea. Trouble is, this flaming hot attraction also feels like it could be as forever after as what Cian and Scarlett have. And that’s a problem. How can that be a problem? True love trumps everything, right?
Well, not always. Henry and Cian have been best friends for twelve years, and his job as bodyguard means that Cian – and now Scarlett and her daughter Mariah – always come first. Number One priority. That’s the point of having a bodyguard: their focus is always on you. And that doesn’t work for Ruby anymore. She’s not being stupid or selfish or devaluing the importance of love, but she’s almost thirty-six and a good part of her life has been spent watching out for and taking care of Scarlett and Mariah. She doesn’t regret or resent it, it was the right thing to do and she willingly did it, and she would still do anything for them, but it can’t be the focus of her life and what overrides her own hopes and dreams and needs anymore. She’ll still be in their lives, but Scarlett has Cian now and Ruby can step back. But Henry – her possible soulmate and love of her life – can’t step back. He has to keep stepping up; it’s his literal job. And it’s more than a job. Cian is his family. And therein lies the problem. Ruby needs to be someone’s #1, their all, their everything. That can’t happen while he’s Cian’s bodyguard. More than physical distance there will be emotional distance. And Ruby won’t settle for that. Not to mention her lifelong dream of becoming a lawyer can’t be fulfilled in Emerald and she’s planning to move out of the family home and get an apartment in another town. Henry says no, he loves her, he wants her, he needs her – but is he going to quit his job? Not likely.
Recklessly Rogue picks up where the previous book in the series, Cian and Scarlett’s story, Rags to Royals, left off. That means we get to revisit everything that was so much fun, meet up again with the people, some pretty troublesome, spend time in New Orleans and Autre, Louisiana and the Kingdom of Cara. Recklessly Rogue is funny, often outlandish, sexy, romantic and touching, tender and sometimes sad. It’s also expertly narrated by talented voice actors Zachary Johnson and Maeve York. Johnson has that accent that drives Ruby wild, and brings Henry to life: firm, commanding, worried, loving. York gives us a Ruby that is determined and strong but needs this man who knows her so well.
I received an advance listening copy of Recklessly Rogue from Home Cooked Books. Author Erin Nicolle has a knack for presenting us with a world that seems part fairy tale and draws us in so skillfully that we are totally absorbed and engaged. I loved this story and recommend it without hesitation. I voluntarily leave this review; all opinions are my own.

📚general review📚
I absolutely loved our FMC here - he is such a crazy protective lover with way too much money that he will spoil and treat everyone like a good proper man should!!! This is the only ethical way to be a billionaire - treat that cash like it grows on trees baby and spread the wealth!! But honestly, sometimes it’s just nice to be taken care of that’s why Henry and Ruby work so well, they are such care-takers. They take care of everyone around them but don’t let anyone take care of them. They were made for each other.
It took me a good 20 minutes to realize this was the 4th book in a series. I love going in blind to stories so sometimes I don’t realize it’s a series, oops! So I will admit there was about 15% of the story that calls back to the rest of the series that I didn't follow. The story starts off with Henry and Ruby already in love so you're diving right into their relationship as they navigate changing circumstances to their lives. That being said, it was not too difficult to understand that I couldn’t enjoy the story. Now it just means I am now super excited to go back and listen to this entire series!!
🎧audiobook review🎧 -Duet narration by Zachary Johnson & Maeve York -Dual pov, single timeline
WOW what an incredible audiobook. These narrators were both new to me so I was so excited to hear some fresh voices!! What a TREAT. They both give incredible performances and the full duet really brings this to a whole new level. Zachary Johnson is such a talent - his accents were so incredible I genuinely thought there was additional narrators at some points. I am excited to hear more of him!! And Maeve York did such a wonderful job as Ruby, she was the prefect fit. Easily a 5/5 audiobook and I’m so glad to have experienced this story for the first time in audio!
Recklessly Rogue Royals Gone Rogue, Book 4 By: Erin Nicolle Narrated by: Zachary Johnson, Maeve York
Erin Nicolle pens another gem of a novel set in her fabulous “Royals Gone Rogue” series, an enthralling story that sweeps you right in and tugs at your heartstrings. This story is Henry Dean, bodyguard to Prince Cian O’Grady of Cara, though their relationship is more than that, and Ruby, Scarlett’s twin sister, Cian’s wife. If you have not done so yet, I recommend starting with their story “Rags to Royal”, where Henry and Ruby’s relationship began and what a beginning it was. The chemistry between these two was electric, and the impressive banter and witty dialogue between them deepened that chemistry. These two were great together and for each other, two like souls, both who lived to help others, and it was their nature, except they were also strong willed and independent. Definitely two of my favorite characters and I enjoyed being there for their journey to their happily ever after. I loved all the layers of this story and how it all played out, with the perfect balance of drama, a touch of angst, humor, charming and heartwarming moments, heartfelt emotions, and steamy romance. Also loved the visit to Autre and getting to some of my other favorite Erin Nicholas characters in the Bayou. Thank you for another wonderful novel and emotional rollercoaster ride.
🎧📚🎧 Zachary Johnson and Maeve York were the perfect cast to bring these characters to life, giving each a voice that was fitting, accents included. I loved how they took their roles and owned them, sounding believable and just as I imagined the characters would sound. Johnson was a natural in Henry’s role, nailing his accent and every aspect of his personality, from his caring side to his protective and bossy side. York was just as fabulous as Ruby, showcasing her personality perfectly, smart, sassy, determined and independent. Both were equally amazing performing the roles of the secondary characters, too. Their pacing and tone were just right for the story and they handled the witty dialogue with ease, landing the humor effortlessly. The emotion in their performance was palpable, making you feel what each character felt. As entertaining storytellers, their captivating performance keeps you hooked the entire time.
Ruby Gale is the love of Henry Dean's life. He knows it. She knows it. But is love enough?
There is nothing I love more than an Erin Nicolle romance. And Recklessly Rogue is no exception.
But an Erin Nicolle romance in audio? Absolutely next level.
Recklessly Rogue is Nicolle's fourth installment in her Royals Gone Rogue series and once again, it is a breath of fresh air.
Ruby Gale is the love of Henry Dean's life. He knows it. She knows it. But is love enough?
Ruby has spent the biggest part of her adult life taking care of her sister, her niece, and others in her small community. Now that her sister is married to a prince (see Rags to Royals), its time for Ruby to take care of herself. She has big plans to move to New Orleans and attend law school at the prestigious Loyola University.
The problem? She's in love with the prince's bodyguard and best friend, Henry, who loves her back just as hard, but feels bound by loyalty and obligation to remain in the service of the prince, no matter where that takes him. And at present, it isn't taking him in the direction of Ruby.
But, dear reader, as she always does, Nicolle gives us a hard won HEA with an absolutely swoony, green flag of a handsome bodyguard and a strong, compassionate, independent woman coming to terms with putting themselves and their relationship first. FINALLY.
The icing on the cake is the found family vibes with family, friends, and community members, the social commentary, the humor, the poignant moments, the steamiest scenes, and the sweetest of devotion.
Narrators Maeve York and Zachary Johnson outdid themselves performing this audiobook in duet.
I adored York's portrayal of kind, compassionate, but resolute Ruby, whose defenses slowly get chipped away by every benevolent, thoughtful, and heroic gesture Johnson's Henry makes. York's vulnerability during Ruby's introspective moments was heartrending.
Johnson brought his A+ Brit narrating game to this performance. His depiction of pragmatic, often dryly humorous Henry softening, wooing, and caring for Ruby was just breathtaking.
Whether it was serious, sweet, swoony, or steamy, both voice actors elevated this story with their supreme talent. This was a total comfort listen for me.
I cannot wait for Book 5 in this series. It is an all-time favorite.
Recklessly Rogue is book 4 in the Royals Gone Rogue series and it’s about Henry and Ruby. We got to know Henry and Ruby a little bit in the previous book - Rags to Royal, as Henry is the bodyguard of Prince Cian, and Ruby is the twin sister of Scarlett (the MCs from the previous book). They finally get their story and their HEA in this book.
So as mentioned, Henry is Cian’s bodyguard, and has been for the past 12 years. He and Ruby first met when Cian was pursuing Scarlett. This story picks up right where Rags to Royal left off. Basically, now that Cian and Scarlett are married and happy, Henry assumes that he and Ruby can just pick up from where they left off. However, Ruby has other plans that has been in the making for the posts 2+ years; she plans to move to New Orleans to go to law school. So, although they both are so in love with each other, their plans for the lives do not match, and Henry’s top priority will always be Cian and the royal family. How can they move forward when they seem to be moving in different directions?
This series has been soo much fun to read, and I’ve very much enjoyed it! This book had so much within it. I really loved seeing Henry and Ruby finally get their happy ending; they’re such selfless people, having put their lives on hold for Cian and Scarlett previously. So, it was nice seeing them together and happy. They did still have some things to overcome, and there were some family drama (especially with Henry’s messy childhood). Overall, this book had so much going for it; humour and banter; romance and chemistry; steamy scenes; and family drama to name but a few. I’d recommend picking it up if looking for a good second-chance romance with some royalty and political intrigue.
Maeve York and Zachary Johnson were excellent at bringing the story and its characters to life with their fabulous narration!
Thanks to the author, Erin Nicolle (Erin Nicholas), and the team at HomeCooked Books for providing me with an advanced audio review copy of this book. All opinions provided in this review are entirely my own.
A heartfelt second-chance romance, "Recklessly Rogue" by Erin Nicolle explores the complicated relationship between Ruby and her ex, Henry. When circumstances force Henry, a royal bodyguard, to move in and protect Ruby and her friend, their long-avoided connection reignites. The audiobook, brought to life by narrators Zachary Johnson and Maeve York, promises a story of rekindled passion and conflicting life goals.
While the premise of a hot British bodyguard ex-boyfriend moving in is undeniably enticing, the execution of the story may be best suited for long-time fans of Nicolle's interconnected series. The narrative features a significant number of crossover characters, which, while a treat for established readers, can feel overwhelming for those new to this world.
The central romance between Henry and Ruby, both natural caretakers, often takes a backseat as they prioritize the needs of those around them. This focus on secondary storylines and external problems can leave the listener wishing for a deeper exploration of Henry and Ruby's relationship. The absence of flashbacks to their original time together makes it somewhat challenging to become fully invested in their second chance. The plot frequently ventures into tangents, pulling focus from the core love story and leaving the listener feeling that the romance is an afterthought.
However, the audiobook's narration is a standout success. Zachary Johnson and Maeve York deliver exceptional performances, perfectly capturing the characters' emotions and the underlying tension between them. Their portrayal is a definite highlight, hitting it out of the park and elevating the listening experience.
While "Recklessly Rogue" presents a compelling setup, the romance can feel underdeveloped due to a crowded cast and a meandering plot. Listeners who have not read the previous series may find it difficult to connect fully with the story. That said, the stellar narration by Johnson and York makes it a worthwhile listen, especially for devoted fans of Erin Nicolle's universe.
Disclaimer: I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I knew from the moment I first met Henry (Kiss My Giraffe), the bodyguard/ best friend to the playful Cian, prince of Cara, I would love him. I’ve been waiting for his story: the accent, the patience, the protector, the best friend. I am so thrilled that Erin gave Henry his own story, and wow what a story it is. Henry, while looking for the love of Cian’s life, Scarlett inadvertently meets Ruby, Scarlett’s twin sister. Henry is all in from the first moment. Ruby, who is the caretaker in her small family that consists of her, Scarlett, and Mariah, Scarlett’s daughter, loves Henry, but can’t see a way around their obligations, responsibilities, and her dreams to be together. Henry is up to the challenge persuading Ruby that it can be done.
Erin Nicolle (the pen name of Erin Nicholas) has given us another stellar book in the Royals Gone Rogue series. I have not only fallen in love with the O’Grady family and their bodyguards, but I’ve become a bit obsessed. OK, more than a bit. These men are charming, protective, sexy, and let’s face it, every woman’s hero. But Henry, he’s all that and an English accent. **sigh** I will read anything that Erin Nicholas/Erin Nicolle writes. Her characters are well developed, loving, accepting, and have growth in their stories. The stories warm my heart, make me smile, tear up, and reflect. I have always enjoyed and appreciated the way Erin Nicholas approaches sensitive subjects in a manner that is graceful, caring, and with love and support. This carries over to all her books, no matter what genre she is writing. It is one of the reasons she is an automatic one click author for me. Although Recklessly Rogue (book four) is a standalone, read Rags to Royals (book three) first to further understand Henry, Ruby, Cian, and Scarlett. In fact, please read the whole series, trust me you’ll want to anyway! These people will stay with you long after you reach the end. I can’t wait for more Royals, and I think Declan’s story will be epic!
I’m actually really quite torn on how I feel and what to rate this. I have really enjoyed this series so far, like I will never forget how I felt when I read book one; like it’s definitely one of those books that I wish I could experience reading again for the first time.
Henry and Ruby have history and that has been teased throughout, especially in the third book as Henry is Cian’s best friend and bodyguard, and Ruby is Scarlett’s sister.
But honestly, similarly to book 3, this features a lot of characters from a previous series, and it has a lot of crossovers which is absolutely fine, but in my case where I’ve not read the previous series, it does feel a a bit overwhelming… I don’t know. I can’t really explain it.
I also felt that the plot went off on a lot of tangents, where I was hoping for it to be more on the romance between Henry and Ruby. I think because of that, I felt underwhelmed by this, and I did find myself pushing through to just finish it, just because of what I had expected from what we know and had anticipated from the blurb.
Both Henry and Ruby are caretakers and very much enjoy taking care and being responsible for others and it felt like for a large portion of this book was them looking after other people and putting other people first, like their romance and their relationship felt like an afterthought. We know that they’ve dated and I think it would’ve been nice to have seen flashbacks of how they kind of met, and those moments together, but that didn’t happen.
Again, I really don’t know how to feel, because I just I didn’t feel invested in their story as I would’ve liked to have been, which really quite makes me sad because I do really enjoy the series; I adored book one, and I really enjoyed book two, and I’m still very much intrigued by Declan and Astrid‘s marriage and the other characters getting their books, too.
I’m not sure I can properly convey how much joy this entire series has brought me! From the very beginning, it hooked me and Recklessly Rogue rounded up this experience for me stoopidly well! I mean … the swooooooooon of it all! *heart eyes*
NOTE: These stories should be read in order and are not really standalones. I’m not explaining this in detail except to say that if you don’t, you’ll miss the forest for the trees and that would be a shame. Do with that tidbit of information what you will!
🎧⇒ Zachary Johnson & Maeve York were superb in their duet performance. I’ve listened to both of them in the past so their talent wasn’t exactly a surprise for me but between the storyline itself being swoony and Zachary & Maeve nailing their performances so well, I was on cloud nine for the entire listening experience! 👏❤️👏
📚⇒ I don’t think I’ve ever met two more selfless people than Henry & Ruby, in fiction or real life! These two were so inspirational to me. I wanted just a little bit of their love to shine on me. Their willingness to sacrifice themselves for others at every turn was awe-inspiring and made their story so uplifting and heartfelt. I love the comradery that Henry & Ruby has even when faced with heart wrenching decisions that would keep them apart. Their love and understanding for each other’s growth were so epic that it made me a little jealous! LOL I mean I want a Henry & Ruby in my circle! I love the banter, wit and sass at every turn in the story. I loved the flirty, swoony sexy side of the story. It was inspirational and super fun to listen to. This story was utterly joyous in all the ways!
After getting to know Ruby and Henry in Rags to Royals, I have been waiting for them to get their own story and HEA. And this was a doozy.
Henry has worked as a bodyguard to Cian and the royal family of Cara for 12 years. He and Ruby, a bartender/stripper, briefly dated while Cian was pursuing her sister, Scarlett. Recklessly Rogue picks up right where Rags to Royals left off. Now that Prince Cian and Ruby's sister Scarlett have married, Henry figures he and Ruby can pick up where they left off since he will be with them in Ohio. Except, now that her sister is happily married and no longer needs her help in raising Mariah, Ruby finally has an opportunity to do what she wants with her life: go to law school in New Orleans. They are both still clearly so in love with each other, but how can they make a relationship work when Henry's first priority is always going to be to the royal family?
There are a lot of ups and downs for this couple, and I loved it all. There is a lot of family drama involved on Henry's end: the guy isn't as confident as he appears to be, thanks to a messy childhood. I loved seeing buttoned-up Henry come undone, and all that he and Ruby had to go through to get to their ending made it that much sweeter.
Zachary Johnson and Maeve York narrate this story in duet format, and they were amazing. His accent was so swoony! Johnson and York are new-to-me narrators, but I thoroughly enjoyed listening to them bring Henry and Ruby to life!
I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.
Recklessly Rogue Royals Gone Rogue, Book 4 By: Erin Nicolle Narrated by: Zachary Johnson, Maeve York
Back to Cara I go, loving this series. This is Henry and Ruby's story. Henry being King Cian's bodyguard and best friend and Ruby, Cian's sister-in-law have a past that will not let them go. Why is that? Well, first meeting them in Rags to Royals, it's easy to understand why. These two had that love glue, the kind that is fiery and unable to be broken. Until it is. Now they are back together but will it stick? For years, Ruby has done things for everyone else, and now that she has the chance, she is ready to move on and away. Henry isn't ready for her to go. This is a fun and listen that has all the feels. Henry is that alpha male, the kind that is impossible to love. His love for his friend and loyalty to help others is so strong, it oozes out of him. Ruby has had a tough time, as she now has her chance, it's so easy to relate to her need to go...and stay. Loved this story and seeing Scarlett and Cian is just icing on the cake.
Zachary Johnson brings his British accent out to play and he is amazing! Making the most desirable of characters, it was easy to love Henry. Maeve York is Ruby with all the spunk and passion she has. I love how both of these narrators understand their characters so well that bringing out the emotions was effortless and made for a fabulous listen.
This series has completely captured my heart!! I loved this book from the first chapter to the last. Henry is my new favorite book boyfriend. In the very first chapter where Henry is all taking charge and being all alpha male--growly and protective. I completely fell in love with him. I've been so excited about Ruby and Henry's story since the previous book. I loved how both characters had this habit of always needing to take care of others over their own needs. This made for a fun story and great growth throughout the story for both Ruby and Henry. This story was very well written with all the yummy conflict. There was humor, lots of heart and some excellent spicy scenes. There was also a lot of cameos from past characters.
I listened to this book in audio. Let's talk about the male narrator, Zachary Johnson. I think I'm completely in love with his voice. He was the perfect Henry. Maeve York did a fantastic job as Ruby. Their voices were exactly how I imagined the characters to sound. They did the best job ever of bringing these two characters to life. I listened to this book in one day because I couldn't get enough. This book is a stand alone, but I highly recommend starting at book one because each story is entertaining and special. I hope there will be more books in this series. I received this audiobook from Home Cooked Books. All opinions are my own.
This is the second book in The Royals Gone Rogue Series I have listened to and I'm hooked on this series. Erin Nicolle knows how to write a dreamy bodyguard with a heart of gold!!! I devoured this audiobook. Henry & Ruby were AMAZING!!!
The narrators Zachary Johnson and Maeve York did a wonderful job telling this story. They held my attention and kept me entertained through the entire book.
Henry is a bodyguard for Ruby's sister's husband. But when he finds out she has taken in a woman and her son because her husband hit her, he wastes no time getting to her to make sure their all safe. He even makes sure the woman and her son have things at the house to make them feel welcomed. Henry will go above and beyond for Ruby!
Ruby was a selfless character. She will help anyone who needs it. Her father is a pastor but the worst kind so she thinks she need to make the world a better place. Oh boy does she ever!! Henry & Ruby were destined for each other and to help others.
This story will absolutely melt your heart!! I LOVED EVERYTHING about this book. I had so many swooning moments, I laughed, smiled like a fool, blushed a time or two and was left with a beautiful ending! I HIGHLY recommend this audiobook and this series.
Thank you Erin Nicolle and Home Cooked Books for allowing me to listen to this ALC for my honest opinion.
“We’ve all heard of Prince Charming. But noone prepared me for Prince Charming’s hot, bossy bodyguard with a heart of gold.”
Recklessly Rogue was a delightful, flirty, heartfelt romcom. Book 4 in Erin Nicole’s Royals Gone Rogue series catches up with Henry and Ruby. While Cian and Scarlett were falling in love in book three, Henry and Ruby grew close and sparks flew. Both protectors and helpers in their own right, they feel a bit adrift now that their charges are settled. When Henry receives word that she may be in danger, the smitten bodyguard rushes to the rescue. I loved the dynamic of Ruby and Henry; he understands her fierce independence and just wants to support, not dim her light. We even get to take a visit to see Ellie and all the Autre crew!
Zachary Johnson and Maeve York were marvelous in this charming romcom! Maeve gave a performance that was perfectly sultry and fiery. Zachary’s low timbre and alluring tone gave the letter-bound yet warmhearted Henry a lovely depth of character. Maeve and Zachary were beautifully matched to bring Erin’s wonderful world and lively, quirky characters to life impeccably. If you’re looking for a fun and flirty romp with a whole lot of heart, get this treat of an audio in your ears now!
✨Special thanks to Home Cooked Books for the advanced copy of this audiobook!
RECKLESSLY ROGUE is the fourth in Erin Nicholas writing as Erin Nicolle's stellar Royals Gone Rogue series, about the O'Grady royal family of Cara and their bodyguards. Bodyguard Henry Dean knows he's been fortunate to not only like but love the guy he's been protecting for years, Prince Cian O'Grady. And now that Cian has married the woman of his dreams, Henry is feeling some kind of way about things, especially when the woman of HIS dreams has made it perfectly clear that she isn't about to compete for space in his list of priorities.
Ruby Gale knows all about how capable and considerate and generous Henry is. And now he's in her guest room making a major annoyance of himself. If only he would be less hot... or interested...
Recklessly Rogue is overflowing with love and community and heart, and I appreciated seeing how everyone used their connections and strengths for good--nothing is as satisfying as seeing that not all superheroes wear capes! And Erin Nicolle is absolutely among that number, as this is another deeply satisfying read that underscores the power of love for positive change. A keeper, for sure.
I thoroughly enjoyed this audiobook version of the novel, narrated in duet format by Zachary Johnson and Maeve York. Both of these narrators have perfect command of their moments, making sure the various characters (some with accents that are different from the main characters' voices) are completely distinct and totally individual. It's like being there to actually see the conversations and thoughts take place. Such an engaging experience! Erin has given them a wonderful story to work with. Cian and Ruby have plenty of emotional baggage in their pasts that of course leads to major complications in their relationship. I appreciated how Erin managed to write about the current, ongoing developments in the plot while also allowing the reader to know about their past experiences in little dribs and drabs, without taxing my memory with a multiple timeline occurring in the text. Not to worry - eventually all is revealed! - along with plenty of emotional growth and new understanding. There is a terrific cast of "almost main" characters (they can hardly be called secondary...) who also do some of this growing and learning. In case this sounds like a psychology class, Erin does all this while supplying plenty of humor, great dialogue, surprising events, plenty of spicy moments, and a swoonworthy HEA. This was an altogether amazing audiobook experience! I was given an ALC of this novel and happily volunteered to write a review.
Recklessly Rogue is the fourth book in the Royals Gone Rogue series. It can be read/listened to as a standalone. Henry and Ruby met a while ago during Cian’s courtship with Scarlett. Henry has been Cian’s bodyguard/best friend for years. Ruby has spent the past fifteen years helping her twin Scarlett raise Mariah. Ruby has plans to move to Louisiana for law school. Henry thought she was staying in Ohio with her family. He was planning for a life together. Well….. listen and see what happens. The duet narration by Maeve York and Zachary Johnson was phenomenal. Maeve York was absolutely brilliant as sweet sassy Ruby. You could feel all of Ruby’s fear, uncertainty, happiness, lust and love in her voice. Zachary Johnson as Henry was divine. His accent was swoon worthy. I loved his delicious alpha tone(no knickers) and his sweeter tone-both were delightful. I highly recommend listening to this audiobook. Thanks to Hime Cooked Books and the author for this ALC.
One of the most relatable books I have read recently! Both main characters are protectors in their core and people pleaser in their heart - and their journey to finally put themselves first was an inspiring one!
I loved every second of this story! Henry and Ruby intrigued me since the moment I met them first in previous books and seeing them together and falling apart and then trying to resist each other was a rollercoaster of emotions! But the way Henry is not taking No for an answer in a best way possible, keeping to pursue Ruby and in the time bringing her dreams to reality made him the greenest flag ever!
And the mouth of that man is next level dirty - so add his professional bodyguard job on top and I am a goner!!
Zackary Jonson with his British accent and Maeve York in their duet narration were able to turn listening to this book to an Experience! With capital E! Fantastic performance! All the stars!
So don’t miss out and binge the series, but if you just want to enjoy a Henry and Ruby’s story - don’t hesitate it is absolutely possible to enjoy it as a standalone. Though I went back and started with all the royal family members books because I couldn’t say goodbye to them 🤣😉
Recklessly Rogue is the fourth book in the Royals Gone Rogue series, but it can be read as a standalone.
Henry and Ruby were so similar. They both cared about others and wanted to help them and take care of them.
The two of them had so much chemistry, and they understood each other. Henry truly went over-the-top to take care of Ruby and anyone else she cared about, but he found ways to justify it. And despite Ruby being very independent, she agreed to let him help.
This was a great addition to the series, and I can’t wait to see what’s next.
Audiobook notes: Narrated by: Zachary Johnson and Maeve York Narration Style: Duet
These two were the perfect narrators for this story. Their narration and accents help get being the characters to life.
*Side note: There was one line where they had a new bodyguard, Kai, pretending to be an “exchange student” from Hawaii, which made no sense. If they were in the US (and they were in Emerald, Ohio), someone from Hawaii wouldn’t be considered an exchange student.
This book was a annoying af mess just like book before so should have expected it. Wayyyy too much townspeople who idgaf about yet again. Also mad we never saw their story from the beginning?? When we never got them in previous book at all? How do we just skip 8 months and never had flashbacks in this long ass book instead wasted so many pages on the dumb small town I can't believe it. Also him not going with her was beyond ridiculous I'm sorry but he didn't even need to be damn bodyguard in bumfnowhere Ohio and instead was going to make them both miserable smh. I regret reading this so much I clowned thinking we'd get all the time we missed in Cian's book and Henry and Ruby's story from day 1 😒 will be skipping next two because I know I'll be enraged with the king's controlling psycho ass again making them be married and have a damn kid together get everyone's like yep this is fine normal behavior??

Henry and Ruby finally get their HEA and it was glorious! You can feel how much they love each other through the pages. The pining and tension and finally giving in was perfection!
These two aren't happy if they don't have someone to take care of. It's just their nature. So when everyone in their orbit is thriving, what are they to do? I loved watching Ruby decide that it was her time to go after her dream of going to law school. She has such a kind heart and is unapologetically herself. Henry supports her in every way he is able. He's over the top protective, a bit obsessive, and always has the best intentions. Basically, he's perfect! I loved when he realized that he can be more than just a bodyguard to the royal family. They wanted him to be happy too.
Ruby and Henry are so perfect together. They just fit. I love how she keeps him on his toes and he does everything with her in mind. Their story is full of swoony, sweet, and steamy moments. Loved it!
Story - ❤️❤️❤️❤️ Spice - 🌶🌶🌶 Narration - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Recklessly Rogue is book #4 in the Royals Gone Rogue series. Ahhh, Henry's story. How delicious he is. But as Kian's bodyguard, he is always on the move. Ruby finally has the opportunity to do something for herself, not having her twin or her niece to care for. She wants to be independent, he wants to protect her. When a threat comes to Ruby's door, Henry is right there to help...whether Ruby wants it or not! This bodyguard, second chance, forced proximity romance has intrigue, humor, steamy scenes, and an amazing setting for their HEA. I mean, who doesn't love NOLA!!
The narration was perfection. Zachary Johnson and Maeve York knocked this one out of the park. Is it the accent? Why yes, yes it is. Mr. Johnson brought the cocky, British bodyguard to life while Ms. York struck right back with the fiesty, sarcastic Ruby. These two were fire! 5/5 stars!!
Ruby has no regrets about putting her dreams for the future on hold to be there for her sister and her niece. Now that her sister has found love with Cian she plans to take the opportunity to follow her own path however that decision is made more difficult by the feelings she has for Henry, her brother in-law’s bodyguard.
Henry and Ruby share a past so now that Cian, the Prince, and Ruby’s sister are together he plans to continue his pursuit of Ruby. His feelings for her are never in doubt but he is conflicted between ensuring that he is there for Cian and the love he has for Ruby and worried that he may have to choose.
The banter is humorous, their romance is heartwarming, and the emotional pull is there every step of the way. Zachary Johnson is a perfect choice for Henry as he brings the charm and charisma while Maeve York reflects the angst Ruby is feeling and you will feel it as well.
