For the first time in a while, Miles feels like the star of his own book, and the series improves as a result. Even though Black Panther and Shuri appear here, and there are gods throwing their weight around, Miles is still the core of the book. It does sometimes feel like he could be fighting for any reason, rather than just to cure his vampirism, but that's a minor niggle. The stuff set back home with Ganke and Shift is pretty adorable too, I'm glad Ziglar's kept Shift around from the last run. And Daniele Di Nicuolo is no stranger to drawing gods and monsters after his Seven Secrets book with Tom Taylor, so he fits really well here on art.

Also included is a back-up story from #25 which sets up the next crossover storyline with Ziglar's other book, Deadpool, and some material from the latest annual which taps into Miles' Puerto Rican heritage quite nicely.

A vast improvement over the last few volumes. Long may the upward trajectory continue.

Whoo Miles... close call man. Somehow I don't think you are completely cured just yet...
Highlights:
- Miles and T'Challa are in Wakanda and Miles has to earn the right to be healed. After a trial, he is given the Heart-Shaped Herb and confronts Bast face to face.
- When Gods are involved, there is always trouble. Bast can't heal Miles because is claimed by Anansi, the African trickster spider diety!
- Another trial down, and Miles is more connected to Anansi, and thus healed.... but that God will show his face again soon, I guarantee it!
- The final story has Miles going to Puerto Rico to visit his abuela. While there, he uses his abilities to save people from a car crash, and takes to the skies to witness Storm helping lessen a hurricane.

Love that the story has settled somewhat, but know more chaos is coming.
Recommend.

It’s 🤩 amazing so well written.
Myles Morales without spider sense and still has incredible agility against Tchalla the black panther.

Honestly, the stuff in this volume involving Miles and T’Challa was pretty meh. However, the plot involving Ganke, Shift, and Ro was light on narrative and big on emotions and I really dug it. Shift has quietly become one of my favorite Marvel characters and a large part of that has been the way the Morales family has taken him in and treated him as one of their own so immediately. I know some writer will add friction there eventually, but for now, I love how simple and loving that narrative has been. The first of the three Annual plots was my favorite — everything with the San Juan locals and Miles’ abuela really worked for me, and when I got to the two shorts towards the end, I was baffled by the reimagining of that very same abuela as well as the weird injection of Storm (it was fine) and Deadpool’s…daughter and Task Master? No idea what any of that is about, even a little. Honestly…not sure I need more of it either.

If this stabilizes the future of Miles Morales, I'm for it...

Black Panther has gifted Miles a vibranium laced suit to regulate his bio-electric powers (it even eases the blood hunger pains). Their next stop is sneaking into Wakanda to make a special visit to the god Bast.

It wouldn't be African lore without a visit by Anansi. They make their presence known in the MU. This could be a great divergence for Miles and the Spider-Man totems. Why not give him something different than the 85 Spider-verse alts that are just reskinned versions of Peter?
===
Bonus: Add more of the Wakandan gods to the Marvel deities!
Bonus Bonus: The end sets up things for the Deadpool & Daughters / Miles Morales crossover. Love!

Miles heads to Wakanda to get rid of his vampirism. He does but he catches the eye of Anansi along the way so we'll see where that leads. I hate the art in these three issues. Danielle di Nicuolo's art is the worst trends of manga. It's chaotic to the point where you can't tell what's happening. There are zero backgrounds and the faces are so overexaggerated. There's also a bunch of smaller stories from issue #25 and the annual with couple of them being set in Puerto Rico where Miles's mother is from. Those were quite nice. Be forewarned, the next volume is yet another crossover, this time with Deadpool. I guess every 4 or 5 issues this book is going to get derailed with a crossover or event. C'est la vie. Such is life over at Marvel these days.

Miles goes to Wakanda to seek a cure for his vampirism and becomes the avatar of Anansi? Most of this was surreal fighting in some other plane of existence, so the art is big and bombastic (and frequently incoherent). I'd say the best part of this volume was a story from the annual that has Miles visiting his grandmother in Puerto Rico, though even that kind of peters out without any resolution, as Storm from the X-Men stops by to fight a hurricane. I'd really like to see more of Miles getting in touch with his roots, but I guess he's always got to be fighting someone or something. Haven't been a huge fan of this run so far and this is more of the same. Bet.

I would've been happy enough with this trade just for reversing Miles's vampirism. If it was intended to stick, it was an incredibly stupid idea, and if the plan was always to reverse it within a year, that's also very stupid. Ziglar doesn't stop there. He also introduces Kwaku Ananse into Miles's life, which I think will open a lot of interesting story paths. I also liked how he seems to be steering towards making Shift a part of the family. The annual is a more grounded story, mostly, sending Miles to Puerto Rico to work on his relationship with his grandmother. Nice character work on her especially here.
