She's teamed with another woman, Sawada, a hardened veteran whose sharp mind complements Koga's raw power. As someone who liked Vol. 1, I'm ultimately disappointed by how this series unfolds and wraps up. There is no story: things happen, but they don't amount to anything. On top of that, none of the characters have arcs. They stay the same throughout the course of the story. These aspects would've been more palatable had the romance been compelling, but they aren't either. The relationships remain unconvincing as the characters have no chemistry with each other. To make matters worse, the mangaka throws a secondary couple into the mix when they haven't even done much with the main one. Not worth the read.

також вот ду ю мін саме вони з лео мали сцену з поцілунком, а коґа з савадою — ні? now that was a deliberate choice there.

також ця робота зокрема надихнула мене врешті прочитати she loves to cook, she loves to eat (досі я тільки трошкі серіала дивилась), тому перемога. дайош більше самобутніх, симпатичних, органічних юрі!!!!! 🥳

The story stands out for its unique setting and premise. I found refreshing the main characters design, straying away from the usual feminine/rose beauty.
Interesting diversity in their personalities, same goes for world building. It was giving yuri kaiju n8.
I think this could be a pretty solid and intricate story, however it lacked depth in their relationship and unfortunately I wasn’t so convinced on the couples dynamics.
The character design and action scenes were pretty good but I can’t let it pass the dynamis look like some black blobs and that was it… overall was okay manga but I don’t think I would recommend it based on my experience.

I wanted to love this so much. However, there were far too many major things that I did not like, which made me take away a star from this kick ass manga.

My biggest issue is the “adult woman who looks like a child” trope. Even though we get an explanation for why she has the appearance as a child despite being twenty nine, I still struggled with the romantically coded scenes between the secondary ship.

I am also not the biggest fan of power imbalance and age gaps. The only thing that makes it more palatable is that both characters are adults (and have been for a long time), and their professions force them to live as if each day could be their last.

Once those concerns are out of the way, there is something else worth clarifying. For a series with the word “Yuri” right on the cover, I was surprised at how little Yuri there actually is. I would describe this more as an action Sci-fi manga featuring queer characters. I have seen more romance in “straight” action driven Sci-fi that never labels itself as romance.
What sets this series apart is the intense female relationships that can be read as romantic or platonic. Even so, it would not feel out of place on the action, fantasy, or Sci fi shelf instead of being placed in the Yuri category because of a couple of F/F kisses. This is not necessarily a bad thing, since I want more queer characters who drive non queer narratives, but at the same this book is marketed as Yuri. Which gives me certain exceptions.

So if you are looking for Yuri, this is not it. But if you want a great premise, good art, strong characters, and a female driven core group in a male dominated world, then YES! This is a great choice.

The premise is great, the characters are solid, the art often very engaging and compelling, and there are some very strong scenes and ideas.

While Koga and Sawada are good characters with a decent dynamic with lots of potential, it doesn’t quite fill out and lock into place enough to fully flourish. The potential is there, in their individual characters as well as their relationship with each other. But it gets rushed and garbled in the second half and finish. Unfortunately, looking at the gaps and speculating on what could (have) be(en) becomes more interesting than what ultimately is there. Fan fic writers: you know what to do.

For me, it’s our secondary characters, Leo and Nonaka, that are the most interesting. Leo is I think the strongest and most interesting character in the series, and her relationship with Nonaka is an odd, uncomfortable, lovely, and complicated one that is not only interesting within the story, but also in terms of genre and conventions. sono.N knows what they’re messing with by having Nonaka be an adult in a child’s body, and the knotty batch of issues there is a good one, for those wanting to dig into some critical, analytical work. Nonaka’s character isn’t as fleshed out as it needs to be, but what’s there is great. She deserves more space in this story, and the story would benefit greatly from that.

Overall, I wish this had been longer. As is, the pacing and development leaves it both too long and too short. It’s a quick read with enough working that it’s a very worthwhile one for those interested.

It's been a long while since I've read a GL and actually enjoyed it. I wasn't sure how I was going to like this, but it ended up being a fair bit. Buff women taking down experiments running wild and being in lesbians with each other. Definitely recommend this one. Especially if you're looking for a GL with some action and blood to it. Or if you like the golden retriever x cat trope. [Koga is definitely a golden retriever girlie and no one can tell me otherwise.]

Do I think it could've went deeper? Absolutely. But for what we got I think it's pretty damn good. And ngl I'd love for some more of this series, even if it just ends up being another chapter or two as an epilogue. I'd love to see where the girls all go.

The book starts with you already in the middle of a story but does nothing to help combat the unfamiliarity. It feels unfinished and under-explained. I would say a couple more volumes would have helped the story but I honestly feel the writing was awful so I doubt it would have helped. Not to mention the weird incest-y/ child predatoriness of the secondary couple. Seriously, what the fuck was that?????? This book oozes “I was only made as thinly veiled fetish content” vibes. It wasn’t even that interesting. The only thing I regret more than reading this is purchasing it. I’d personally recommend steering clear of this one.

I have been so excited for this for such a long time but it had been hard to get the first volume. I don't know why the other volume was not released but then we got the omnibus.

I feel like there could have been more explored between the women and their dynamic, including Leo and Nonoako. And Shino and Koga. Shino never really confessed her feelings but I guess her actions were proof enough.

I don't know if this ended early but I feel like we didn't get much of a conclusion but it was a nice ending.

I absolutely loved this! It was so different from any other GL I’ve ever read and the plot had me hooked from the very beginning. The characters were great and had depth but I do wish this had been just a tad longer to really flesh out the main couple’s relationship. Loved seeing some badass muscle mommies tho 💪🏻

Overall, I really enjoyed this book. However, I was disappointed with the lack of conclusive ending. I didn't feel like there was a real ending to this story. I was left with a lot of questions that never got answered. So, while I enjoyed the book, I don't know that I would recommend it as much knowing that there isn't a great conclusion to it all.

Interesting premise about the monsters….. I learned some stuff about myself while reading this, though. Turns out, I don’t care for handsome women. Also, the secondary couple is all sorts of wrong if the child is seen as a pseudo replacement for her kid.

I love big women, I love the monsters, I love the militarised setting but I would have liked more depth in the main relationship even though I love the two couples.

❌ - No star rating yet because of reasons

I am conflicted. I am having trouble sorting out how I feel about this story.
If you want to read this because of the Yuri (female/female romance) aspect I think this is not it. It is very much Sci-Fi focused but even that aspect doesn't feel fully developed. Which, now I think about it, everything about this feels underdeveloped. Cool concepts, weak execution. There is no resolution. Not even a good open ending and I dislike open endings.

The art was noticeably worse in the last 50 or so pages.

I am glad I bought it but I don't think I would actually recommend this unless you really like science-fiction concepts.

I just saw that there was an omnibus of this series. Also I forgot that I did read volume 1 of this. Shows that I am truly a sucker for some covers...

Very interesting first volume.

I got sucked in because it was a Yuri in a sci-fi setting and I don't know a lot of those types of Yuri stories. I do feel iffy about the translation though because it seems that some feelings were very fast developed while the setting didn't helped with that.

I think it would have been better to get the backstories of the characters first, seeing scenes with the training and battles now, and after that was established, then some slow moment while feelings are being developed.

Still I like seeing two women falling in love while they are doing kick-ass stuff.

Some of the portrayals of people and their mental state feels... not iffy, but still dubious.
Maybe because the word 'weak' was being mentioned and how the women didn't want their feminity taken from them. You see that a lot in movies/tv-series from the Americans where women serve in the army. They always have make-up on and somewhat long-ish hair even when they are fighting. Which seems really dumb to me. But I also totally get in those kind of environments.
I really appreciate seeing their muscles because you certainly don't see that on tv. As if all women have these Bambi-like figures but with hidden muscles? So that was nice to see.

Still something is bugging me at seeing muscly women, the words feminine and weak, all in the same story. Especially because apparently there are more men working there and the women they do have quit very soon. So the implication that men are better at shutting out the electromagnetic waves, bugs me a lot. Even if I can't really explain why exactly.

And that reminds me that the comment made on page 9 by Sawada which was such bullshit: ''I'm something of a malicious senpai. I don't know anything to deal with women.''
WARNING RANT INCOMING

Some of the things that bother me feels like a translation issue. The language used isn't nuanced and I'm wondering if they are a bit more in Japanese. Another factor is the cultural background of the artist. Japan is a very gender-role based culture so it takes me a bit of time to let go of my own cultural bias while reading. I wonder how this is received in Japan? Do the people there like it? Does it break boundaries?
