About the author

A dynamic storyteller, Kara Dobias has honored her need for creative expression by working across mediums. In addition to being a poet, she is a classically trained operatic soprano, actress, and dancer with a degree in Theatre Arts from Drew University. For her, creativity is a way of life—a continuous journey of self-discovery and a means to connect with the world around her. Through her work, she hopes to leave an imprint that resonates with authenticity and speaks to our shared humanity.

Reading Kara’s poetry will take your breath away. Her words are like a spoonful of honey: absolutely delicious and worth savoring every drop. I found moments of comfort, kindness, heartache, and sadness layered throughout her text. Other times, I felt pure joy and bliss. It sends the reader on a rollercoaster of emotion in the best way possible.

An excerpt from one of my favorite poems, People Change, but Love Remains: “To love, is poetry personified, eloquence in motion. And even when it isn’t enough, it still matters. It always will.”

Alive is a beautiful, vulnerable collection that captures the raw essence of love and heartbreak and discovering oneself in a deeply personal journey, that still resonates universally. The collection unfolds like a journey we take alongside the poet, rather than a separate set of poems. It beautifully reflects the resilience of being a woman, transforming pain into growth and self-discovery. I'm looking forward to seeing more works from Kara Dobias!
