Burnout-Free Working is written by Dr Richard Duggins - a leading expert and trainer on preventing burnout in high stress jobs, also known as 'The Doctor's Doctor'. In this book he reveals the secrets of his trade for the first time.
With a wealth of proven tools for burnout-free working, Dr Duggins covers all you need to know,
- Spotting early signs of burnout - Steering clear of 'the burnout cliff' - Tackling 'Keep calm and carry on' culture - Detoxifying workplace environments - Dealing with trauma at work - Moving from Stress to Decompress - Strategies to support colleagues
Dr Duggins breaks down common burnout myths (it's really not about building resilience!) and encourages us all to shift our thinking away from burnout recovery, to instead living and working in a way that avoids burnout before you even get close.
Very relatable and helpful. Sadly, perhaps not always possible when working for the NHS. I loved the positive ending and the helpful strategies. It also made me feel very seen and think "Yes! That's how I felt!"
If you find yourself wondering whether you should read this book, then the answer is yes. Easy to read, with repeated recaps of key concepts throughout, this book provides a clear articulation of challenges that every professional will have experienced in the workplace at some point, and how to deal with them. This is the best book I have read about not just surviving, but also thriving in a stressful workplace environment. In short, this is a book about how to live life well. It was a real eye opener for me, and I have already recommended it to a number of friends. If you are ready to change how you approach work (and life!), this book will give you the tools you need to bring about that change.
An indispensable read! This book merits all of its five stars. It tackles incredibly complex and often daunting life events with clarity and a straightforwardness which draws the reader in to what is a gratifying read on a topic not easy to intuitively understand.
Calling on current and established research evidence and also on Dr Duggins’ deeper empathic wisdom it is a compassionate yet uncompromisingly practical guide to anyone living with burnout or heading towards it.
As someone who has seen burnout’s consequences in another and struggled to know what to do to help, I wish I had had this to read at the time. I would have been a better friend for having read it. More able to understand the importance and impact of another’s burnout and be better equipped with approaches that could then have helped.
If you work in stressful workplaces and/or manage those who do, this is an essential read to avoid burnout and its consequences for individuals and organisations. A vital contribution to the understanding of well-being at work, and one I wholeheartedly recommend.
The content of this book and the tone it is written in is immediately relatable and helpful. There is wisdom, kindness and compassion packaged in a non preachy, non judgmental narrative. The stories speak volumes and the hopeful nature of the book shines through. Thank you Richard
