Look Forward to Trying Many of the Recipes

In Full of Beans, Amelia Christie-Miller presents recipes with butter beans, chickpeas, borlotti beans, Carlin peas, red kidney beans, white beans, and black beans. Some of the recipes include meat or fish, which I appreciate, since that could make it easier to convince family members who don’t think they like beans to try them. Besides, for my myriad of health issues, fish is recommended a couple times per week.

You will find beans used in multiple ways, such as for soups, appetizers, dips, and main dishes. The recipes cover a wide range of flavors. A few of the recipes included, to give an idea, are:
-Tomato Soup with Cheesy Butter Beans
-Butter Bean Saganaka
-Chickpea, Tomato + Harissa Stew with Herby Yoghurt
-Borlotti Beans con le Sarde
-Sausage Meatballs with Borlotti Beans, Fennel + Mozzarella
-Carlin Pea Stroganoff
-Crispy Baked Halloumi, Carlin Pea + Orange Salad
-Smoky Chilli with Fluffy Sweetcorn Dumplings
-Mushroom Ragu and Cheesy Bean Bechamel Lasagne
-Classic Baked Beans
-Cheesy Bean Quesadillas
-Punchy Peanut, Ginger + Black Bean Curry with Buttered Wild Rice
-Spicy Bean Paratha Pockets
-Black Bean, Beetroot + Walnut Dip

Some of the recipes use ingredients I don’t usually have in my house, but they look tasty, so I intend to purchase to try those recipes. I have recently learned how helpful it is to have a photo of the dish, so I appreciate that the author includes them with each recipe. Many recipes have “Top Tips” which could include how to make a recipe dairy-free or gluten-free, optional ingredients, or tricks to save time. I also think the guidelines on substituting one type of bean for another in recipes could be very useful.

I rate this book 4 stars.

I'm definitely the type of person who reads my cookbooks front to back when I first get them. I know that's not for everyone but I just love to cook, and not only that but learn and read about cooking, and people's experiences with food! There is a lot to learn outside of going back to the same favourite recipes again and again and never taking in a cookbook as a whole! I've not had the chance to make anything from this one yet (so rating pending) but safe to say this book has a lot of meals that look really appealing to me! I'm a convert to jarred beans already and I can't wait to try out some new ways to add more healthy and environmentally friendly ingredients to my diet!

Imaginative recipes to inspire you to incorporate the health benefits of beans in your diet. Whilst there are a good variety of approaches, most of the recipes are based on a core theme which you can mix and match depending on what you have available. Whilst it is obviously written to promote BeanCo branded beans, the recipes work just as well with half quantities and one tin of supermarket own staples.

Huge letdown

If you are vegan you’ll have to do a quite a bit of substitution acrobatics with this cookbook. Quite counterintuitive for a book that announces the ecological virtues of eating lots of beans as opposed to animal-based products. The dark, sinister and depressing photography doesn’t help, either.
