Jezebel works for a club in Harmony, located in the outer ring of Palen, the slums, a place where you do whatever it takes to survive. She does just that, dancing for men and making sure her sister, Emerson, is well taken care of.

When Jezebel is bought and taken to Jericho by a man named B with the promise of paradise, Emerson sees no problem with it. After all, she just wants her sister Jez to be happy. And that is what Emerson thinks Jez to happy in Jericho without her. "It is a little sister's destiny to be unwanted by her older sister."

Emerson is now alone in Harmony, where she, too, must do what it takes to survive. She gains an understanding of what her sister has been through when she takes a job at the club.

When Emerson gets a pile of letters, all addressed to her and sent at the same time from her sister Jez she becomes concerned. She notices suspicious pieces missing from them.

Emerson decides that she needs to make it to Jericho as well to save her sister. She takes one last job at the club to sit for the men from Jericho who purchase women.

Things go terribly wrong, and it seems she will never make it to Jericho, with her sister's words in her head telling her that men like to be past their flesh, past their eyes, to their soul. So that is what she searches for in every person who comes her way. Until finally, she meets someone who does, in fact, have a soul, or so she thinks.

Before she can truly find what she is looking for, past flesh and blood to the deepest part, she runs into a past lover who fights for her affection.

So, an old flame or a new savior?

In this epic dark adventure romance, there is a choice to be made. Who will she choose, what will she do, and how will she survive?

Soulless is a haunting, emotional, and captivating dark adventure romance. It presents a raw and gritty tale that takes readers on an intense emotional journey. The moody narrative, along with dark themes and explicit content, truly brings this story to life.
In Harmony, one character struggles for survival against a backdrop of formidable darkness and constant peril. The narrative is filled with exciting and dangerous elements that kept me thoroughly engaged. I was compelled to delve deeper into the story, where a cascade of events weaves a complex web of chaos and danger, leading to intense moments and unexpected outcomes. As the stakes rise, how can love thrive in such tumultuous circumstances?
The story features one woman drawn to the promise of a better life and another woman who chases after her sister when things begin to seem amiss. This is one tale that should be on everyone’s TBR list.

This book I will not be finishing for the simple fact it had no trigger warnings and for me a book needs them if it’s gonna explain in explicit detail minors doing adult things if you get what I’m saying. From what I’ve gathered that particular sex scene had nothing to do with the plot at large so it was unneeded and to have it explained so harshly with no triggers is crazy work. Btw if you want to read this book I’m telling you now chapter five is just gross. And all the unnecessary things that happened before that where grown men where basically sexualizing a minor was weird work, Hey read what you want to read just know I would not recommend this. My best friends who are was also asked to read this book felt as I did and also decided not to read this as well.

Book Summary:

Emerson never had a lot in life, just a sister she adored and her best friend. She lost them both, one to a faraway city and the other to a war. Both promised to take care of her, but now she’s alone and trying to find her way through the world.

One day, it hits Emerson that her sister didn’t willingly abandon her. Her beloved sister has been waiting all of these years for help, and now Emerson is going to do everything in her power to make her way into Jericho and save her sister. Little does she know what she’s stepping into.

My Review:

Soulless wastes no time throwing readers into the deep end, telling an emotionally fraught tale with high stakes. Emerson may start out as a sweet and loving girl, but it doesn’t take long for readers to see how the world is getting to her.

On that note, the world is very dark and dystopian. I loved Hart’s way of describing the world and its events. I honestly wish there were more of this because Hart has a knack for creating dystopian settings.

Emerson’s tale really does tug at the heartstrings, as she copes with abandonment and worse. It’s inspiring to see her get up and keep on moving. Her adventure gets very complicated very quickly, and I’m not going to pretend I understood every step along the way (here is where I want more details and descriptions).

The multiple perspectives do help to heighten the tension, though they largely come into play later in the novel. Altogether, it makes readers wonder what they’re all working toward. Emerson is at the core of this entire adventure, yet she’s often left on the outs, scrambling to put the pieces together.

All things said and done, I do wish that there was at least one more chapter of Soulless. The conclusion could use a bit more filling out, giving readers a better chance to say goodbye in the process. I’ll confess that the prologue left me confused. I’m uncertain if names were swapped or if it’s something else, so that may be the problem.

Highlights:
Dystopian World
Dark Romance
Multiple Perspectives

Trigger Warnings:
Sexual Assault
Human Trafficking

In Soulless, C.K. Hart crafts a haunting, emotionally raw, and deeply atmospheric journey through love, loss, sisterhood, and survival in a brutal dystopian world. Set in the slums of Palen—known as Harmony—the story opens with Jezebel, a hardened young woman doing what she must to protect her younger sister, Emerson. But when Jez is taken to the glittering, mysterious city of Jericho with promises of paradise, a rift begins to grow—one rooted in misunderstanding, separation, and a sinister undercurrent of human trafficking.

What follows is not just a dark romance or a dystopian thriller—it’s a deeply layered emotional exploration of two sisters trying to survive in a world where women are currency and innocence is a liability. Emerson’s journey is especially powerful. Left behind in Harmony, she slowly unravels the truth about the world her sister entered, guided by cryptic letters and her own determination to save Jez. Her path is riddled with pain, hard choices, and the constant threat of being owned rather than loved.

C.K. Hart’s prose is both lyrical and gritty, evoking a world that is simultaneously broken and intoxicating. The moral complexity of the characters, particularly the men from Jericho, adds a layer of psychological tension to every encounter. Some are charming, others terrifying, and all are dangerous in ways that keep you guessing.

The central theme—“men like to be seen past their flesh, to their soul”—becomes a chilling mantra Emerson clings to. It’s more than a survival tactic; it’s a quest for meaning in a place where souls are rarely found intact.

The romantic subplot is well-woven, with a love triangle that avoids clichés and instead serves as a test of Emerson’s growth and insight. Both the past lover and the potential new savior are flawed, layered, and emotionally compelling. But the heart of this novel isn’t romance—it’s sisterhood, sacrifice, and the fight to reclaim agency in a world built to strip it away.

If there’s a critique, it’s that the nonlinear storytelling—through letters, memories, and the shifting timelines of both sisters—may occasionally leave readers piecing things together a bit too slowly. Still, the payoff is well worth the ride.

Soulless by C.K. Hart grabbed my attention right from the moment I saw the cover- and after reading the blurb I immediately grabbed a copy and plunged right in. The story was gripping- the intriguing details woven around a dark dystopian romance with a bit of a love triangle, fused with mystery, suspense, action, adventure, dramatic developments, emotion, and steam.
I was immediately invested, reading intently to discover where the multiple threads would lead. There was definitely more going on with the characters than first meets the eye. I love a great dystopian story, and this seemed to have all the ingredients needed to make it quite a gripping read. The author had me in the palm of her hand, all the way through….. UNTIL about two thirds of the way through- where I got a major case of whiplash.
The story suddenly changes, adding in a quest for the holy grail which, for me, seemed quite random. Noting leading up to this moment had mentioned/hinted anything about the holy grail and the story could have worked quite well without this element (imo). Also, the last third of the book seemed a bit rushed compared to the ‘build up’ in the first two thirds of the story. The whole mystery and search for her sister element kind of fizzled out and was quite quickly skirted over, and yes, I know that comes back into play later on, but the buildup to and then the transition felt a somewhat jarring.
I don’t quite know what I was expecting, but I felt a little disappointed because, as I already mentioned, the first part of the book definitely held the promise of great things. I can guess as to what the author was trying to achieve, but for me it just didn’t work as well as I had first expected. I also felt like there were quite a few ‘threads’ which didn’t get resolved- so maybe the author is planning on more books set in this ‘world’. I will have to wait and see.
I am curious to see what else Ms. Hart can do, so I would read more of her books to find out.
Happy Reading…

Thank you, C.K. Hart!

I absolutely loved Soulless by C.K. Hart. The raw emotion of Jez’s sacrifice and Emerson’s transformation from a naive sister to a powerful, determined woman kept me completely hooked. Every letter and twist deepened the emotional impact, painting a picture of love, loss, and survival in a dangerous, seductive world.

Jez wanted a better life for Emerson, begging her not to follow in her footsteps, but that’s exactly what Emerson feels like she has to do to get out of her hometown and back to her sister. Emerson sits in on an auction where men purchase women to bring to a place called Jericho, her goal is to get purchased and rescue her sister.

Everything falls apart and does not go according to plan. After a plane crash and her buyer’s death, Emerson is on her own on the mountain to Jericho. She is hurt and running out of time. She makes her way to a known safe house, where she meets Bash, who is also on his way to Jericho to rescue someone. They decide to work together.

Their chemistry is undeniable, but Emerson has loved the same man since she was a child, a man named Riley. Thus begins the love triangle, but with a twist. It is not the stereotypical love triangle, making it much more exciting. Each character has their own personality, their own motives, and I found myself flip-flopping between who Emerson should choose.

However, the ending left me a bit disappointed. The sudden introduction of a holy grail subplot felt out of step and rushed, breaking the deep connection built throughout the story. The author built this amazing world with detailed backstory, only to throw it away for a very rushed and abrupt ending. Still, the book’s heart and gripping narrative make it a memorable read, and I’m excited to see what the author crafts next.

Soulless by C.K. Hart is a story of love and sacrifice. Emerson’s big sister, Jez, always took care of her. Emerson’s best friend and first love, Riley, always did as well. Riley was committed to the miliary and told Emerson he was leaving after graduation but suddenly disappeared. He didn’t have the heart to tell her that his deployment was sooner. Riley’s brother Corey, who ran the club, was the one to break the heart-shattering news that Riley was gone. Jez had to take a job at the club in order to make ends meet but was soon off to Jericho with a man she had met at the club. Jez and Emerson had vowed to make it to Jericho and to a better life than the one they lived in Harmony. Jez made Emerson promise that no matter how hard things got, she would stay away from the club but when times got tight, Emerson followed in her sister’s footsteps. Life at the club was not above board and Emerson manipulated the system so she was sold to the man who would take her to Jericho and to her sister. On the way to Jericho with Ben, the man who purchased her, Ben sensed something was wrong when the pilot flew in circles near Jericho but didn’t land. A struggle ensued and the plane crashed. Emerson was the only survivor and made it to a cabin/safe house where she met Bash who tended her injuries and kept her alive. This book is about love and sacrifice and the heartbreak that happens when you lose those that you love.

Emerson is a young woman who has already been through a lot in her life, between her sister Jezebel leaving the club she worked in for Jericho, and a chance of happiness with the mysterious B, and a best friend who abandoned her for a life far away as well, Emerson realises just what she has to do to stay alive.

As the years pass and her life falls down the same path as her sister, she works at the club and takes home her pay, but she has her limits and nothing will change that, at least until she receives a pile of letters from her sister, all dated on the same day and with nothing but hello's, love you's and redacted words, but this leaves Emerson feeling that something isn't right and the realisation that Jericho was not what it was cracked up to be and that her sister may need her more than ever.

This is where she takes fate into her own hands and follows the same path to Jericho as her sister, facing the same tests, dangers and darkness, but what Emerson doesn't know is that her journey will be more dangerous than Jezebel's ever was.

She will have to face ordeals she never imagined and memories she wished she didn't have, but will she succeed in her mission, or will her time run out? This is an adventure, and a mission all rolled into one, where danger and determination meet in a clash of emotions and survival which will keep you on the edge of your seat throughout.

This is a newer author for me which I enjoyed their creative writing style as well as their attention to details that gave their story a realistic feel. This is a story that will take you on a darker adventure of two sister’s love for each other. Jezebel and Emerson are sisters and they just want each other to be happy. Jezebel takes a new job in a new town but when Emerson gets a pile of letters from her she becomes concerned. She has made a decision to go after her sister. She never expected someone from her past comes back into her life. Now she is faced with a decision, the past or the present. You don’t want to miss what happens to her and who she will choose. I enjoyed the characters in this story and what they added to the story. They are connectable and relatable. Emerson is my favorite of the story. She is strong, determined and does what needs to be done to survive. I also enjoyed how supportive the other characters were of her. I enjoyed watching the growth of the plot throughout the story which made it easy to read. This is an engaging, fast paced story that is hard to put down. This is a great story that I enjoyed reading from beginning to end. I highly recommend this story.

I was hooked throughout by this dark, epic, dystopian adventure romance. Jezebel is working for a club in Harmony, in the slums and is just trying to look after her sister Emerson and survive. Emerson is left alone when Jez is bought by a man named B and taken. Having had to take a job at the club Emerson finally realises what her sister had been through. When she receives a pile of letter sent by Jez, but with suspicious pieces missing Emerson is determined to make it to Jericho to save her sister. However, her plan goes horribly wrong and she must remember her sister’s words, that “men like to be seen, past their flesh, past their eyes, to their soul”. Emerson must make a choice between a man she’s just met and an old lover who’s willing to fight for her. The descriptive narrative brings the dystopian setting vividly to life, making me feel immersed in the storyline. Emerson and Jez are both likeable and relatable characters. I found it hard to feel engaged with Emerson in the beginning of the story, before she understood her sister’s sacrifices, when she thought her sister was ‘happy’ working at the club and would just abandon her. I liked the added mystery element to the dark romance storyline.

This was a dark romantic adventure read. It was captivating and had twists and turns that I couldn't see coming. The book was so much more than I was expecting.
This is a story of one person's survival, not only in her small home of Harmony but also when she ventures further to try and safe her sister. This is a perilous journey for Emerson as she fights against the same men that took her sister to Jericho.

Along with all the danger and struggles there is one person in Emerson's life that she can trust and that is Riley.
After he leaves Emerson struggles to survive on her own but when she finds Riley again is this the chance she was waiting for. The chance to finally follow romantic feelings between Riley and herself? But things won't be that easy and when Emerson has to make a choice between the two people she loves in her life, who will she choose and in the danger that surrounds her will she stand any chance of survival at all?

This is a real emotional rollercoaster when everything in life is struggle and it's always a fight between living and death. The author writing is really emersive. I felt I was along with Emerson on every step of her journey being witness and feeling everything she went through. I was gripped from the beginning.

Soulless by C. K. Hart. I loved this book. Its a fast paced thriller that will keep you flipping pages until you are finished. It's the story of Jezebel and Emerson, sisters who are always there for each other. Jez is the oldest and she has been taking care of Emerson the best way she knows how and that's by dancing at the club. When Jez leaves town with a man she met at the club, Emerson thinks she should be happy for her sister but when she receives strange letters from her she realizes that Jez is in danger and she must get to her. Jez made Emerson promise she would stay away from the club but she had to do what she could to make ends meet. She also knew that if she could get a man to take her to where Jez is she might could save her. When she finally gets a man to take her to Jericho they are on a plane and it crashes leaving Emerson as the only survivor. Bash ends up finding her and taking her in and nursing her back to health. Feeling get involved and she may have found her happy ending but not without finding her sister. Such a emotional romance!

Soulless was the first book I read by C.K. Hart. It is a Dark Dystopian Adventure. This book was very unique; It had romance, love triangle, adventure, World building, Mystery, suspense, dramatic events, tons of steamy scenes and emotions! This book had me in its grip from the start! I saw it and read the synopsis and had to get it! I struggled putting it down from start to finish! I love all the characters and the story line. There is a huge switch up about half- ¾ into the book, but it was still good. It took me a minute to realize what happened, but it still worked well with the book overall. I was still entertained and engaged in the story. I would love to maybe see more of this story and characters in another book, to help continue some things that I felt weren’t quite finished telling. I will be exploring other books by this author now that I have experienced her creative writing style. I look forward to seeing what other books she will come up with!
I would definitely recommend to anyone interested or if you enjoy dystopian dark adventures with twists.

Something about a dark book cover just lures me in so quickly. The details on this cover specifically were incredibly well done, and after I read through the summary, I knew I had found my next adventure. This book had me by the throat from page one! It is gritty, raw, and totally addictive. Jezebel and Emerson's story is the kind of dark sisterhood-fueled journey that grabs your heart and doesn’t let go. Let me tell you now, the stakes feel so real. Emerson’s evolution from wide-eyed younger sister to someone who's ready to burn the world down for Jez is flawless. There’s mystery, steamy tension, and enough emotional twists to keep you flipping pages at 2 a.m. I loved how this story didn’t shy away from the grit because while this isn’t your typical fairy tale, the raw beauty of it hits deep. You’ll root for Emerson, ache for Jez, and constantly second-guess who can really be trusted. If you like your romance dark, emotional, and laced with just enough hope to break your heart, don’t miss this one!

Soulless is a dark mafia romance that surrounds you in a world of power, betrayal, and obsession. Jezebel, our FMC, is strong-willed and resilient by nature. While she stumbled into a dark, seedy world, she refused to lose her sense of self, no matter the gorgeous man she was thrust upon. While trying to journey to find her sister in Jericho, Jez must be willing to do anything to find her sister and get them both out safely. When Emerson tries to win Jez, he is going ot have to be willing to do anything, even giving up his soulless nature to win the girl in the end.
This was definitely a dark-themed book, but it captivated me and made me want to consume it quickly. C.K. Hart is a new author to me, but this book makes me want to read her entire backlog. I loved how she blended the dark themes with passion and left me wanting more the whole time. If you want an emotional rollercoaster of a read with dark romance, mafia, and enemy-to-lovers vibes, then this is the book for you!

Wow! This book has so much in it, that it is hard to put down. I really hope there is going to be a second one because that ending had me screaming at my kindle!

This is a dystopia that is filled with spice, adventure, twists, and heartbreak.

Growing up Emerson had three people in her life. Her dad, her sister Jez, and Riley (her first love). After her dad's passing and Jez moving to a different ring, all she had left was Riley. But that all changed a week before graduation when Riley left her to join the military.

Seven years went by without a word from Jez or Riley. She had to come to terms that she was abandoned by everyone she loved, until one day a bunch of letters from her sister came in all at once. Even though all the letters were blank it got her thinking of the past and realizing her sister actually needed her help

She starts on her adventure to get into Jericho, but what happens is not as she expected or planned

This is a harsh and intense dark fantasy romance where the line between love and hate is often blurred, and characters are pushed to their limits to survive. Emerson finds herself alone in the dangerous slums of Harmony after her sister, Jezebel, is seemingly whisked away to a promised paradise in Jericho. A pile of letters, all sent simultaneously from her sister, immediately sparks Emerson's concern. She embarks on a journey to find her, a quest that forces her to confront the brutal realities of her world and take a job at a club, mirroring Jezebel's past experiences. On this journey she encounters intriguing figures, including an old flame and a potential new savior, leading to a complex and dangerous choice. Emerson's journey to find her sister completely drew me in, making it impossible to put down. I really enjoyed reading this book and look forward to reading more from this author.

This book snuck up on me in the best way. Soulless is a dark, gritty dystopian fantasy wrapped in a love letter to sisterhood and survival. C. K. Hart weaves a tale full of tension, secrets, and slow-burning emotional intensity that never lets up. The contrast between the bleak slums of Harmony and the sinister gleam of Jericho was so well done I could almost feel the grime and neon of the club scenes and the cold perfection of the city walls. There’s a soft but sharp thread of romance woven in, and it works without being overpowering, but there when it counts. Especially when that one certain someone re-enters the picture (yes, the mysterious old flame 👀). It added a layer of complexity that deepened the emotional stakes. If you like your fantasy dark, your heroines fierce, and your stories rooted in love that defies broken worlds, Soulless delivers. I’m absolutely keeping an eye on what C. K. Hart writes next.

Jezebel is doing what she has to do in order to make sure that her youger sister Emerson is taken care of. She works as a dancer at a club in Harmony which is considered the slums. She is bought by a man we only know as B and taken to Jericho. She is promised paradise and at first Emerson doesn't see an issue since she only wants to see her sister happy. She thinks that is exactly the case until a stack of mysterious letters from Jezebel arrive and some pieces are missing. What exactly is happening to her sister in Jericho? Emerson had to take a job at the club herself to survive and it is also where she knows she can potentially meet someone that can take her to Jericho. She thinks she may have found someone but then her ex comes and is also fighting for her affections. Does she choose the familiarity of a former lover? Or does she choose a stranger that could take her to potential paradise and her sister? This was a bit of an emotional rollercoaster but well worth reading.

I have previously read C.K. Heart books and when I saw this one, I had to snatch it up. I was not disappointed. This book follows Emerson and her journey to save her older sister Jezebel. Jezebel loved her little sister. When things got tough she started dancing at the club to make ends meet. She then meets a man who purchases her and takes her to Jericho. Before she leaves, she makes Emerson promise that no matter what happens, she is not to go work at the club. Unfortunately, Emerson does end up there. But she works there with a goal in mind. To get to Jericho to save her sister. She is able to find a man to buy her and take her to Jericho. But this is where things take a turn and her journey begins. Emerson is a tough girl, and goes through a lot. The story is well done and I was sucked in from page one. I can't wait to read more of C.K's books to see where else she takes me!

OH. MY. GOD. This book wrecked me—in the best way possible. Soulless is dark, intense, and emotionally raw, and I was absolutely glued to every page. C.K. Hart has this magical way of pulling you into a world that’s haunting and beautiful all at once, with a main character so layered and broken and fierce that you can’t help but feel everything right alongside them.

It’s got all the things I crave: morally gray choices, slow-burning tension, powerful themes, and writing that cuts deep. I legit had to stop and reread certain lines because they hit that hard. If you want a story that will gut-punch you, heal you, and then leave you staring at the ceiling wondering what to do with your life—this is it.

READ THIS BOOK. You will thank me later.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (and I’d give more if I could)

Hmmm. This was a very interesting world to dive into. My first C.K. Hart book and let me tell you that cover kept me coming back until I finally made the time to sit down and give it a try. The mystery, suspense, build up, with a love triangle in a dystopian world is always worth a try and this one while it had some moments that left me a little confused, I still couldn’t put it down until I reached the end.
What happened to Jez, would Emerson find her in time, who would she pick? Questions that kept me engaged with every page. Different threads that weaved together in unexpected ways but some that were left unsolved give me hope for a possible sequel but either way worth the read and I look forward to reading more by Ms. Hart in the near future.

The characters in the book were just as intriguing as the story. So much seemed to be happening with them, it made the story really exciting to read. It felt like the author could change the whole direction of the book at a moments notice, which kept you on the edge of your seat. I was hooked from the first page; this book took you on a ride that has you on the edge of your seat. The twists and turns to this keep me wanting more and I wasn’t ready for it to end. This is a dystopia that is filled with spice, adventure, twists, and heartbreak. This was a journey following Emerson thinking she was abounded and alone for years, until one day she finds out that her sister might be alive and sending letters. This book transports you into this well-developed world, were it feels like your right there along for the ride. I become so invested that I find myself not wanting their stories to end. Wow, what a story. I was plunged into this story and did not come up for air.. I loved these characters and their plight.

When you have loved but one person your whole life, can you love someone else? We are about to find out as we go deeper into the story. War is tearing their world apart. Who will survive and who will be lost/ Your heart will break and the author may knit it back together. You will have to read this brilliant story to find out.

Emerson Riley and Bash and the whole gang will take you on a path you most definitely want to travel.

This is the first time I have read a story by this author and yes she totally blew me away.

I want MORE!!

I got pulled right in from the beginning of this book. I was kept entertained throughout. This story took me on an adventure. There were a few different things going on but it's not difficult to follow. There are a few moments later in the book that I was surprised the direction the storyline took. I became completely invested in all the characters in this story and wanted all of them to find what they were looking for. I found this book to be intriguing, suspenseful, emotional and an all around enjoyable story. I recommend this book.

Soulless By CK Hart

Soulless is a Dark Romance that I found myself lost in the pages. I had to know what was going to happen next. This is a new author to me but I’m definitely a fan already. The characters are creative, relatable fully developed and make the story come to life. This story will take you on quite the dark emotional journey. Sisters Jezebel and Emerson take us on quite the emotional journey. I highly recommend reading this book to find out what happens next. I’m definitely looking forward to reading more from this Author.

This one hooked me right away. The semi-love triangle that Jezebel finds herself in is such a mess. There's so much going on in this book, so many different storylines, and all quickly processed through in this story. The characters were all wonderfully written and the world-building was great. The ending didn't sit quite right- I think she ended up with the right guy but I also don't really like how it was left with the other. No spoilers.
It was good and worth reading, would recommend.

5/5 ⭐️ Loved this book! The beginning is great a setting the scene for how this world is set and the struggle the characters are going through, and it just keeps you intrigued from there. I thought the art of the cover was dark and beautiful, so I like to mention that when I love a cover. Such an interesting story about the character and the choices they have and what choices they make. Don’t want to give anything away but I enjoyed reading this and I’d definitely recommend it!
