A long-lost sister. Their parents' mysterious disappearance.
It's time for a reckoning. It's time to start again.
It's been years since Tara spoke to her sister and ex-best-friend Josie. But out of the blue Josie calls -- and it isn't good news.
Josie has cancer.
Tara rushes from Nantucket Island to Manhattan to sit by her sister's bed and learn more about her diagnosis. Josie says it she's tired of fighting the cancer. She wants to stop treatment.
Tara refuses to accept this. She begs Josie to come back to Nantucket, so that Tara can take care of her -- and they can investigate another treatment plan. Together.
But Josie has other plans.
Twenty years ago on a snowy night in December, Josie and Tara's parents abandoned their daughters without telling them where they were going. The horror of that event has cast a shadow over Josie and Tara's lives, one they can't escape.
When Josie suggests she and Tara reach out to their parents for the first time since that night, Tara balks.
How can they ever forgive their parents?
How can they resolve the past?
But through travel and conversation and acceptance, Tara begins to realize just how much she's hidden herself away over the years.
She stopped living.
And maybe reuniting with her parents will help her forgive herself.
Maybe it will help her to move on. Finally.
Before the Storm is book six of the Salt Sisters series, a heart-wrenching yet hopeful family drama that unfolds on the glittering shores of Nantucket Island.
Katie writes women's fiction and clean, wholesome contemporary romance. She looks to everyday, real-life family issues to weave stories of heartfelt emotions, love and loss, and everything in between.
Come transport yourself to Martha's Vineyard: an island of vivid blue ocean, white sand, and a lively community of locals, who celebrate everything from the bright New England summers to the cold, yet cozy, snowcapped winters.
Tara was concerned about the reception she would receive from her sister and parents when she returned from college only to tell them that she wasn't going back because she was pregnant. She had no idea how the news would be received by her parents. That is why she called Josie to pick her up and help her get home. When she got home, she was quickly recruited to run the Christmas Festival that year since the lady who organized it in the past had a heart attack. With no experience , Tara started her own company at that moment and ran the Christmas Festival. However, when her parents found out about the baby, they simply put their house up for sale and moved without telling anyone where they were going. Unfortunately, Tara found out the hard way how her sister had been treated fll her life without knowing of any reason for the behavior. Now how could she find out what happened?
Tara and Josie are sisters, although it seems Tara was always treated better. When Tara calls Josie in a panic, Josie goes to the rescue. She brings Tara back to town, in time for Tara to arrange the annual Christmas Festival. When Tara reveals her surprise pregnancy, her parents seem to disappear almost immediately. Josie does what she can to support Tara, including contacting Donnie, the father of the baby. After some time living together, Donnie is sent packing
Fast forward to the time the ladies are on their mid 40s. Josie is sick, and Tara and s estranged from her daughter Winnie
Tara wants Josie to begin an experimental treatment, and Josie wants Tara to reconnect with her parents
What secrets will be revealed? Where is Winnie? What does the Future hold for Tara and Josie?
Thank you to the author for this ARC. This review is my honest opinion.
Book 6 of The Salt Sisters presents us with a heart-wrenching story of a family that loses its closeness and needs to forge a bond again. The main characters, Tara ad her sister Josie, have grown apart, along with Tara's daughter Hazel. Katie Winters masterfully reveals the details that caused this family's "break-up" and gives us hope for a better future for the dismantled family. I highly recommend "Before the Storm".
A visit to Nantucket with Tara and Josie and their struggles from childhood to adulthood. How secrets, abandonment, and fear can tear apart a family and fill it with distrust. Hopefully this page turner will show the way to a reconciliation for these women and bring peace to the women of Nantucket. ❤️
