Mitch Westcott is in for a rude awakening. Entitlement is his currency, and compassion is a foreign concept, but when a fatal car accident abruptly ends his reign of privilege, the universe has a karmic reckoning in store.
This twist of fate leads him not to an afterlife, but to a second chance at life—in the form of a female pug named Stella with a face only a mother could love. Left to fend for herself after being abandoned on the side of the road, she must learn to navigate a cruel world with no money—or pockets to put it in.
Anger and frustration intensify as Mitch sees the world through a dog’s eyes, but gradually an unfamiliar canine compassion does battle with his narcissistic tendencies.
When Stella is given the opportunity to provide comfort to the sick, Mitch’s past comes back to haunt him. Will he let it derail his chances at redemption or will he finally understand that it is not what we can get out of life that’s important, but what we can give?
Embark on a transformative journey with Stella and dare to believe that the power of second chances and the true meaning of redemption can be found in the most unexpected of circumstances.
After years of working in the banking industry in The Finger Lakes Region of Central New York, David Homick left his suits behind for a more casual gig as a freelance Web Designer. He loves the creative aspect of his work, which was not something that was encouraged growing up. Perhaps it’s all that pent up creative energy that has motivated him to express himself now between the covers of a book.
Homick weaves a touch of metaphysical wisdom and inspiration into intriguing, suspenseful, contemporary love stories and mysteries. He believes that fiction should do more than entertain. Good fiction causes us to see ourselves and our world in a different light, creating an emotional resonance that remains with us long after the final page has been read.
Many readers will in some way identify with his characters, whose outer circumstances and inner demons stand in the way of the love and sense of belonging that they seek. Their journeys have many twists and turns, and at times seems hopeless, but through perseverance they learn the key to building meaningful relationships and creating the life they ultimately deserve. Of course, we should never rule out a clever twist of fate or subtle divine intervention along the way.
One of the underlying themes of his writing, as well as his life, was inspired by a favorite quote from George Eliot. "It's never too late to be what you might have been."
Excellent story told in the voice of the dog. As usual David Homick doesn’t disappoint and the storyline kept me intrigued until the end. What was interesting was his play on the a human turned into a puppy and remembered his life before and knew how lucky he had it as a human after turning into the puppy. The other factor this human was a loner, thereby making it hard for the puppy to get along well with others. Intriguing and captivating.

A beautifully written classic tale of triumph over adversity that is, at once, also a heart-warming story of courage, second chances and redemption, all told from the eyes of an adorable pug puppy named Stella.
