A bad best man’s speech can ruin a wedding. Why do we plan every detail of a perfect day and then give the groom’s idiot best friend five minutes of total power?
Enter Nate (Glen Powell), a speechwriter-for-hire who helps people write incredible best man speeches. To keep the best man from embarrassing himself (and the newlyweds), Nate uses his list of don’ts: Don’t mention the exes, don’t be rated R, and don’t bum everyone out. Nate’s system never fails. That is, until he meets Dan (Nicholas Braun), the dopey, hopelessly awkward best man for the biggest social media influencer’s wedding of the year. On top of that, Nate just got engaged to the woman of his dreams, and now he has to find his own best man–forcing him to confront a brutal friendship breakup with his former best friend.
As Nate helps Dan with his speech, he explores the insane and often idiotic world of male friendship and must come up with an answer to the one question most men never think about: Why is their best friend their best friend?
Featuring an all-star cast including Ashley Park, D’Arcy Carden, Lance Bass, Zach Braff, and more, The Best Man’s Ghostwriter is a laugh-out-loud, heartfelt audio show written and directed by comedian and former real-life best man’s ghostwriter, Matthew Starr.
This was such a fun and unique listen! It’s like listening to a TV series and I could totally picture it in my minds eye. It’s funny, but also a serious reflection on male friendship. I would recommend this if you like audio books, give this a try!
How can you not love hearing Glen Powell in your ears?! I loved this book before I even read simply because of Glen Powell🫣 in all seriousness, this was a very easy listen, funny, and an uplifting story. I really enjoyed listening to it!
Really didn't love this one. It's surprising that it took me four days to finish a 4.5 hour audiobook. But that's proof of how little it held my attention. Picked it because I love Glen Powell, and he did a good job, but this audiobook was too much. Too many voices. Too many sound effects. Too many side-stories. And the overall plot was just boring.
Honestly an entertaining afternoon audiobook that’s narrated by Glen Powell?? That was the best part. The audio cast here was outstanding. The story was lackluster.
3* If this didn’t have the great cast and sound effects, this might have felt flat and preachy. But the audio production elevates the story. Some humor, some bits and pieces of NY, some pop culture references (which can go very wrong if not done right, but worked well enough here). Considering I’m in a deep reading slump and can’t make myself finish anything too long or serious, I’ll take it.
It’s not everyday that you cross paths with a book that’s crazy , has a strange title and calls you out to pick it up. Well this book just exactly that.
Once I had bought it, I kept thinking why i did it. Then one day just like that I decided to give it a go. Well I am glad I did. It’s a book that’s fun a ride like a roller coaster ups and downs and a lot of noise and shouts. It is evidently about speeches of best men and man who helps write them but it’s a lot more.
It’s about what being a friend means, What friendship are all about and why it’s ok to have many friends. Its also about why its important to let go of friends and that friends will let you down but it’s ok and enjoy what you have and friendships don’t worry about the length go for the substance of it .
I really, really enjoyed this. I laughed outloud often and so appreciated the theme of friendship love. The full cast? Amazing. Glen Powell, yes please. Lance Bass, my 35 year old heart loves you as much as my 11 year old heart did.
This was very entertaining but did NOT feel like a book/audiobook 🤣 It was more like listening to a movie. A full out audio production. Strange, but generally enjoyable. I just don’t feel like I can very well judge it as a book!
I am 1000% not the target audience for this but things have been heavy and I really needed a light read. I had zero expectations. The story was well crafted, well performed, and I laughed like eight times. Absolute surprise.
I really enjoyed "The Best Man's Ghostwriter"! Glenn Powell and Ashley Park bring the story to life with their fantastic performances. You can really feel their energy!
The multi-cast production makes it even more engaging and lively. The story is light-hearted and fun, with just the right mix of romance and humor. If you're into entertaining audio stories, this one is definitely worth checking out!
Most original story I’ve heard in a while!! Glen needs to do more audible books, I’ll be sure to listen to literally all of them 😌🥰 Definitely recommended to fans of Anyone But You and Set It Up
very funny full cast recording, free with audible plus. It's a bromance rather than a romance, although there are multiple weddings, for the most part, it's about a dude navigating friendships. He lacks insight about himself but overall this was a fun and very funny listen. Plus GLEN POWELL. Enough said.
Glen Powell has chemistry with anyone, even in audio format. Zach Braff as Cookie stole the show for me. As a massive Scrubs fan, Cookie was putting down massive JD vibes and I LOVED it. His brotherly tough love during the bachelor weekend was endearing and hilarious. Honorable mention for Lance Bass being unexpectedly hilarious while on shrooms, and pretty much throughout the whole story. Nicholas Braun did a great job. I loved his sweet character and how he helped Nate.
Would be a five star for me except the ending slowed way down for me, I got a bit bored in the final wedding scene. It felt like it took a while for that scene to reach its resolve. The dialogue got cringey at certain points for me here and there throughout the story.
I loved the final internal battle Nate has when he confronts his friendship fallout with X when he is dreaming about his would-be wedding toast at X’s would-be wedding. If you’ve been through a friendship breakup, that hits very hard.
Overall, this is a hilarious story performed by very talented people.
Side note: JUSTICE FOR BRENT. Poor guy did nothing but be sweet to his girl and friends, and love his brine and gherks. Leave the pickle himbo ALONE.
There's so much to like about this book. I picked it initially because I was looking for something short to listen to that would also be entertaining, and I, like everyone on this planet, loves Glen Powell.
It goes without saying that the voice performances are very well done. The actors do an excellent job embodying the characters, and I really appreciated the dynamic quality of not only the performances, but also the general environment of the story.
I definitely have a soft spot for some of the characters, and I was never really sure where the story was going to go. As someone who really likes romance, I was expecting certain things to happen, but when Nate's relationship with Ash was really sort of background to the rest of the story, I found that interesting. The story is humorous and sweet and sad, and I really loved what it had to say about friendship, not just male friendship, but all friendship.
I definitely recommend checking it out. The story has a few things here there that detract from getting a higher rating, but the voice performances really make up for that, and I really enjoyed the unexpected depth of the story.
3.5 ⭐️ for content but Glen Powell narrating the lead of a full cast audio definitely makes this deserving of ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I really wanted to love listening to this but there were too many parts that just seemed to drag on…..
I would recommend this to anyone who loves Glen Powell’s voice, needs tips for a best man (or maid of honor) speech, and just to make sure it’s clear, loves Glen Powell’s voice 😉
