Katya Terasov survived a game once played without rules. After enduring round after round, she cuts ties with the boy she believed to be her golden knight and starts a new life far away from the organization he’s dedicated his life to: the Bratva. For years, she’s lived peacefully, never noticing her stalker in the shadows. One who’s torn between keeping her safe and keeping her for himself.

Dimitri Volkov once honoured the wishes of the girl who is his everything by letting her go. Ten years she’s been gone, and for every one of those, he’s watched her from afar. As a boy, he released her, but as a man, he refuses to. He’s claimed the soul of everyone who’s harmed her, but there’s one more remaining. One more threatening her safety. One more forcing him to emerge from the shadows and reveal himself as Katya’s deadly knight: his father.

Deadly Knight is the second book in The Bratva's Elite, a series of interconnected standalones that are best read in order. It involves content some readers may find triggering.

Exceptionally Good!

DEADLY KNIGHT was just as captivating as the previous book, MERCILESS QUEEN. It had me hooked from cover to cover.

Dimitri and Katya’s story wasn’t sunshine and roses. It was really dark and so emotional to read. These characters go through hell and back again. I rooted so hard for them to have their HEA.

I can’t wait for the next book!

Angst and second chances in the best way possible!

This story was raw, brutal and so healing. Heartbreak and angst, but pure love and light. The way these characters went through hell, grew and changed and found their way back to the other was written beautifully and with great care for the mental health and wellbeing that their past needed.

Katya, while some of her choices might pain me, they were right, not only for her, but in general. Was it a long time and maybe fear, what held you back in the end? Yes, but what you went through was an excruciating experience and you deserved all the grace in the world. You are strong enough for anything and in the world we live in, your character can be a beacon of hope, that there’s future after trauma. You did all you had to do to survive and thrive and I loved you for it. Loved the way you still loved Dimitri, even if your ways were more subtle and soft than his.

And Dimitri, the way you had my heart in a chokehold and didn’t let go until the end? Painful, raw and visceral love that never ended even after time, distance and a painful life got in between you and her. Your loyalty to her, your devotion and just LOVE for her is also a light at the end of a dark tunnel I fear both of you had to live without to come out stronger after.

I did get a little passionate because they felt like real people and they touched my heart when reading. That’s all I can ask of a book, that it makes me feel, truly feel good, bad, sad, pain…and M.L. Philpitt, you delivered. Not only in this book, but this whole series.

I will be waiting at your front door for book 3…and book 2 of the paranormal series…and the Halloween novella…well just expect me locked and ready for all your future books!

Thank you for this e-arc, I loved it beyond words.

Quotes:

Something brought us together. Fate, perhaps. Whatever bullshit excuse the universe had, it made her mine. And that means the universe can never take her back.

The ribbon around my wrist hangs, brushing her chin as though greeting its owner, the girl whom it shouldn't have ever been separated from.

Stalking her hasn't been enough, when now, my soul feels cured. Patched up in ways I never could have imagined.

"I'll keep you safe, moya dusha. I'll die trying before I let harm come to you again."

It's kind of disappointing that Dimitri isn't so easily replaced in my mind.
But also reassuring that he'll never be replaced in my heart, no matter what happens.

Soulmates are real, and mine re-discovered hers.
In that instant, everything fell into place... and everything fell apart at the same time.

"Because to protect you is to protect my own heart, and I'm not quite ready for that to stop beating yet."

I fall asleep on the man who once held my heart, my soul... my everything.
It's my best sleep in ten years.

"Did you sleep?"
"No. I didn't want to miss a moment of this."

"Katya, everything I've ever done has been for you."

"You seem to underestimate exactly how much you mean to me. How much you've always meant to me. I'd burn cities alive before watching you cry. Destroy thousands of souls to see you smile again. Crawl over lava if you asked me to. Cut off my own hand if it meant being able to kiss you again."

"Nothing is too much when it comes to you. There is nothing in this world I wouldn't do for you, give to you, or give up for you."

"You have a body to be worshipped, moya dusha. Allow me to worship it."
With my thumbs holding her open, I eat for the first
time in a decade.

My soul.
It's the most suitable name for her. She's my heart outside of my body. My breath outside of my lungs. My soul in corporeal form.

"These right here, Katya. This is my peace. You, this house, and our future. I love you. Then, now, and for the rest of our lives."
"I love you, too. Forever and always."

I am so hooked on this series and I loved Katya and Dimitri’s story. It was a long and emotional journey for them both and they have to endure so many ups and downs but I was so invested in them and their story I refused to put this book down. The angst and anguish was so real and will draw you in but please ensure that you read the trigger warnings and this book will have your heart racing at a million miles and hours. Absolutely wonderfully mesmerising.

*I’ve rated this ⅗ spice, but there is more. It is not the loving kind. Be mindful of triggers.

Katya and Dimitri are going to be forever… until a terrible thing makes Katya realize she is not cut out for the work Dimitri lives in. Dimitri, being a member of the Bratva, the Russian mob, will do anything and everything in his power to show her that she is so much stronger than she thinks. This story is one of hope that is lost through trauma, and found through undying love.

This story was absolutely beautiful and heartwrenching. As I’ve said before and I’ll say again, READ THE TRIGGER WARNINGS. Protect your mental health. There is very dark content in this book, but it is so worth the read.

ML, you freaking did it again. You should know that your mafia books are the only ones I’ve read and actually enjoyed, so thank you for giving me that.

This was the best second chance romance I've read in a long while! You definitely delivered!

💚 Second chance romance
🖤 Mafia
💚 OTT protective MMC
🖤 Stalking

I was so excited to get my hands on Deadly Knight after how much I loved Merciless Queen, and I was completely invested from the start in Dimitri and Katya's dark and emotional love story

Part one was a tough read with everything that they were put through. It was absolutely heartbreaking.
Both katya and Dimitri went through hell and had to claw their way out to be able to heal afterwards.

I can't lie, I love an MMC that stalks his girl, but Dimitri raised the bar in the overprotectiveness. Being in a different country wasn't going to stop him!

Please, please make sure to check the trigger warnings with this one 🖤

And with the little bit of information we have for book 3, all I can say is... I'm ready!

She’s my future. One I’ll kill for. Die for. Bow for.

Sweet cherished promises.
A taste of the danger with every kiss.
With a touch that burns into your soul.

Until demons in the night tarnished everything.
With their scarring claws buried deep in you now.
Hearing those screams becomes your bedtime lullaby.

Then the love of your life leaves…
Only for you to become her shadow…

“I never asked to be saved!”

“You think you ever need to ask me to save your life? You should know me better than that.”

After 10 years of trying to recover from that night that changed her life, Katya is slowly trying to gain a normal life and is now a mental health therapist. But, even with the hours with her own therapist won’t change the fact that her soul isn’t whole anymore.

Leaving Dimitri Volkov broke her more than what happened to her and moving away Katya thought she could make a fresh start in her life. Only now her past is coming back to play with her again.

Unknown to Katya though…she has never been alone as Dimitri could never leave her and break their promises. And, now Katya is in danger again with his father…but this time Dimitri won’t be sat helpless and will do everything it takes to save her from his fathers evil clutches.

Having her in his arms again, seeing the dull light in her eyes come alive and feeling the burning flames grow…Dimitri knows this could be his chance to finally claim Katya for good this time.

If only he could capture his father and seek revenge for everything he did to them both.

Can Katya accept Dimitri now years later and be the woman to stand by his side? Katya has been living in dormant and now with Dimitri this close awaking forgotten feelings will she take the risk?

Or will the ribbon that tied them together finally be cut for good this time?

“You have a body to be worshipped, moya dusha. Allow me to worship it.”

Deadly Knight is about to break all your emotions, rip you apart and wrap its pages around you…only to burn you up all over again…I loved it!

This one is not for the faint hearted.

I couldn’t wait to read Dimitri & Katya's story. Dimitri has been carrying some demons and his hate for his father for some time. You felt that creeping through from the previous book…only know do we truly understand.

I love the fact that nothing is held back, making it brutal, raw and heartbreaking for each of the characters. It makes for a more believable read, bringing Dimitri and Katya to life as they went through a nightmare trauma together due to Ivan-Dimitri father.

There’s a lot of “will they won’t they” happening throughout, you can feel the tension between Dimitri & Katya. Both of them need to heal in their own time, you can understand Katya's point and Dimitri will power to make them become happy ever after. But, only time will tell if these two have got what it takes to battle their own demons.

This is my ending. Our ending. We’ll either explode together…or explode entirely until we’re nothing but two broken, bloody hearts.

Then we have the rest of the Bratva's Elite characters come together and with the ongoing storylines this series is only going to get darker…And bloody…

The second book in the Bratva’s Elite and Deadly Knight had one of my own personal type of heroes – the dark guardian angel lurking in the shadows watching out for the girl he loves…. all right so some would call Dimitri Volkov a stalker but potato, potahto. Katya Terasov had made the decision to walk away ten years before. She’d loved Dimitri couldn’t make him choose between her and the Bratva, perhaps she didn’t believe he’d choose her but he’d spent the intervening years watching her, protecting her from anything that threatened her safety. Now he would protect her from the last threat standing – his own father.

This was an angsty and emotional second chance romance. The overprotective Dimitri had never faltered in his love for Katya, his devotion knowing no bounds as he proved with the lengths he went to for her. The overall story telling was fantastic right from the opening pages. Katya and Dimitri’s relationship had so many ups and downs they deserved their HEA, they definitely earned it with a third act break up just to throw readers into the proverbial emotional wringer with them. If you are a fan of dark and angsty mafia romances with all the feels and characters who will make you care what happens to them then this is a series for you.

This is the second book in this amazing series, and this is Katja and Dmitri’s story.
Dmitri is dedicated to his life with the bratva, and he and Katya have been planning their lives, until they both endure something horrendous, and her parents sell their house and move to Canada. Dmitri is overprotective, and agreed to have no contact with Katya, but for 10-years her has been in the background unseen to protect and keep her safe, as well as dishing out vengeance. How will Katya react when she finds out he has always been there?
This is a well written emotional roller coaster, with family dynamics, friendships, intrigue, heartbreak, trauma, danger, suspense, survival, making choices, challenges, humour, witty banter, soulmates, second chances, vengeance, healing, violence, undeniable chemistry, and love, which leads to an entertaining, tragic twisted, and unpredictable, addictive page turner.
I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.

I was so invested in this story—I can’t even explain why 🤣
Maybe it's because book 1 was amazing and the author is that good at dragging me into her world. I needed to know how it ended before it even began!
Second chance might be my least favorite trope because, let’s be honest, half the time the MFC is secretly pregnant somewhere while the MMC is out there sleeping with half the female population 🙄
Thank God we didn’t have that here!! After the emotional damage from Part 1, I would’ve gone apeshit if that had been the case!!!
(Though yes... they both had relationships during their 10-year separation 😩😩😩)
Part 1 was really hard to read due to 🍇 on-page content. Please check TWs and take care of yourself.
Part 2: Stalker mode unlocked! Don’t we all love an OTT MMC? 😅
Also, Katya tested my patience with her constant refusals to be with Dimitri, basing her entire decision on "what ifs"
Part 3: The action we have been waiting finally kicked in, and damn, ML Philpitt didn’t let us breathe! It kept me on edge the whole time.
Tropes & Tags:
✅ Second chance mafia romance
✅ 10-year separation
✅ OTT possessive MMC
✅ Innocent MFC (new to the mafia world)
❌ Third-part breakup (ugh... one month 🙄)

Deadly Knight is Katya and Dimitri's story, and its not an easy one, full of trauma, darkness and betrayal, also healing, and growth.
An angst filled emotional read. It was absolutely amazing.
Ready and anticipating book 3!

Its advised you read Merciless Queen first, its an interconnected standalone.

And if you have triggers definitely read those trigger warnings.

This is the 2nd story in the The Bratva's Elite Series, my heart and soul have been left with Katya and Dimitri after all they have endured by those who caused harm in the most heartbreaking way all for control and power. Dimitri is a young man coming up in the Bratva and believes his girlfriend, Katya who lives outside his world will be his forever. On graduation night their lives are pulled apart from the most brutal and painful actions of Dimitri’s father. The fallout causes Dimitri to become the man his father always wanted and Katya is no longer in Russia pulling him away. For 10 long years Katya rebuilds her life in Canada and unknown to her Dimitri has been her shadow protecting her. When the one responsible for her worst nightmare returns it forces Dimitri to show himself and rescue Katya taking her back to Russia with family under their protection. Their torture and suffering endured has made Katya and Dimitri fighters who have never lost their love for one another just never believing it was possible to have again. Dimitri’s loyalty and undying love for Katya allows the darkness to fade to lightness for a 2nd chance for their love along with peace and a family!

I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie's Book Reports.

This is the story of Katya and Dimitri. I highly recommend that you read Merciless Queen before this book. While they can be read as standalone the story is interconnected and I think you will feel like your missing something if you don't read that book.
These two have known each other since they were young and they have gone though so much. It will break your heart. She decided that she needed out of the Bratva life. She has realized that she can't handle what he does anymore and he lets her go. But did he really? The man sure takes stalker to a whole new level. For the ten years that she has been gone he has been around. She just didn't know it. He is determined to prove to her that she is so much stronger than she ever realized. There is no doubt that while your reading this book you will feel the love these two had for each other. I do not want to go into the details of this book and ruin something. I loved every second of it and these characters are absolutely amazing.

“and when i die, only a fraction of my soul will be in the afterlife, because you own the other half.”

this book walked a fine line between romanticizing trauma bonding and accommodating to suffering, without ever crossing it. there were moments where i had to pause and sit with my discomfort, it made me confront internalized shame and guilt that the story brought up. i don’t think i’ve ever read such a realistic and raw portrayal of not only trauma, but the aftermath of it through the entire journey. there’s no right way to experience and respond to trauma, everyone’s coping and processing is different, these characters are a testament to it. i really appreciated how the author showcased that by deconstructing their respective reactions and needs, how time didn’t heal all wounds, neither does love. overall, i feel like this should be a necessary read. and i must say the women of this story have my whole heart, i can’t wait for anastasia’s book (and her twin’s, of course).

* i was sent a copy by the author in exchange for a honest review

This book is typical second chance romance. I like this book but you lose interest in the middle for several points first it was flat and predictable book. Secondly ,he ended his enemy which mean she was safe from in the middle of the book . I didn't see any reason to continue the book the other half repeated reasons and explanation that made you skip pages . All the characters seem to be unseen . Their dialogu is usual and expected although they all had a deep connection as friends and relative who had deep wounds. Kaya supposed to be broken and survival but she wasn't like that at all.
Katya didn't change until the end of the book which is wrong . As a couple who longed for each other they have a deep connection that grows with time. They were soulmate I didn't say she jumps into his arms but the seeds are planted at least. I didn't enjoy this book

Deadly Knight is book 2 in The Bratva’s Elite series and it's Dimitri and Katya's story. It's a great second chance story where the two MC's come back together after 10 years separated. It's angsty, exciting, action filled and dramatic. Most definitely a page turner.

What an emotional read! I don't have triggers when reading books but a rape scene was ... whew... hard to read. This was a great second book in the series and I loved how Dimitri wouldn't give up on their love, even after 10 years of being apart. Can't wait for Leo's book next year!

Got a headache from crying so much, what the fuck man.

book took me the entire day to finish, and though it started heavy—forcing me through the FMC’s painful experience —it was worth every moment. By the end, I was exhausted, frustrated, even developed a migraine from crying so much. I loved catching familiar faces like Vanessa, Zeno, and glimpses of Nico and Rafael into the story. At its heart, though, Dimitri and Katya’s journey felt inevitable—a Bratva soldier and the girl he met when they were just teenagers 🥹😍
