When an ice queen meets her match, sparks fly and hearts burn...
Dr. Morgan Blake has spent years perfecting her craft as a neurosurgeon, but after a tragic loss in the operating room, her life begins to unravel. Grieving and broken, she retreats to Carmel-by-the-Sea, seeking solace in the quiet waves and scenic views, far away from the world she once controlled. What she doesn’t expect is a steamy encounter with Sydney Parker, a firefighter who ignites a fire in Morgan’s heart that she isn’t prepared to face.
One night. That’s all it was supposed to be. But when Morgan runs into Sydney again at a local lesbian dating event, and then once more when flames erupt in her own kitchen, she begins to wonder if fate has other plans. Sydney’s charm and persistence chip away at the icy walls Morgan has spent years building, leaving her both vulnerable and captivated.
But Morgan has sworn to protect her heart. And as Sydney’s pursuit grows more determined, Morgan is forced to choose between staying in the safety of her solitude or risking it all for a love that might just heal her shattered heart.
She wasn’t looking for love, but fate brought the fire right to her door... Get ready for a steamy one night to happily ever after romance that is about to melt hearts.
Morgan and Sydney end up at the same speed dating event and Sydney is instantly smitten. It will take a lot persistence on Sydney's part to help Morgan open up and see they fit together. Morgan's therapist helps her deal with some very old feelings. I am loving this firefighter series. Things heat up in more than just the bedroom.
3.75 stars. The main characters had oodles of chemistry. Some age gap, some ice queen vibes that melt away. Would have liked more depth into their professions, especially the fire fighter. Just a fun romance.
DNF 49% My fault probably - was really hoping for a butch or at least butchy firefighter. Alas no luck. Couldn't deal with the "pillowy breasts" and "soft but strong stomach" and the dresses ... moving on to something that is more to my liking.
Lauren Hart’s “Firefighters of California” is a terrific series, and “Heart on Fire” is the best, so far! Hart’s writing is so smooth and natural, the story comes off like your friend is just sharing her life with you. Like all of us, Morgan and Sydney each have their own quirks, fears, and seemingly fatal flaws. They each have a BFF who brings loyalty, patience and humor to their friendships. So what could possibly stand in the way of these two, Morgan the neurosurgeon, and Sydney the firefighter, having more than a steamy one night stand? For one thing, the walls surrounding Morgan’s heart, to protect her and keep her invulnerable. For another, there’s the curse that Sydney’s been living under since age fourteen. Obstacles aside, this is a perfect match, right? The way Hart weaves this tale, with heart and humor, it just has to turn out HEA, doesn’t it? Keep your fingers crossed …! I received an ARC of “Heart on Fire” and this is my honest review.
This is another great addition to the Firefighters of California series. Morgan is a neurosurgeon punishing herself for something out of her control. Sydney is a firefighter who believes her love life is cursed. After a one night stand neither can forget, they randomly bump into each other on multiple occasions. Sydney and Morgan both have issues of their own as they tentatively strike up a friendly relationship that could turn into more if they're brave enough to let that happen. Eventually, Sydney slowly starts to see cracks in the walls standoffish Morgan has built. The story is engaging and the writing realisticly depicts the internal struggles the characters have. And the best friends of Sydney and Morgan are an example of what best friends should be. If you're a fan of age gap and ice queen tropes, I recommend this one.

After a one night stand 🔥🔥🔥🔥 Morgan and Sydney keep running into each other in different circumstances. Morgan was escaping her neurosurgeon career because of the loss of a young girl. Sydney believes she’s been cursed since the age of fourteen and is always unlucky in love, very short relationships, one night stands. There was something different about Morgan. The age gap didn’t concern Sydney and she didn’t give up on Morgan even though Morgan didn’t make things easy going. A camping trip Morgan agreed to but really only because it was Sydney that invited her, to more dates where they learned more about each other. They managed to break down some obstacles that seemed insurmountable. Morgan who initially considered herself not dateable and Sydney who for years felt all her dating mishaps were due to that curse. HEA. I definitely recommend this third book in the series and can’t wait for the fourth book in the series.
These books in this series... AMAZING!! Sydney and Morgan's story...such a wonderful book!! I loved reading about them falling for each other even when they weren't intending to. The spicy scenes were oh so 🔥, writing amazing and I fell in love with Sydney's character...so happy to reserved Morgan. Lauren did a great job of writing the internal struggles of both characters, and the dialogue was so engaging between characters you were drawn into their lives. Their friends so supportive and helpful to cheer them on. I couldn't stop reading until I got that last page read!! Had to get my ending !!! I received an advanced copy for free, and voluntarily leaving my honest review.
For as much shit as many lesfic authors talk on men, they sure write a lot of creepy harassy female characters.
The scene where the MC asks Sidney to leave her alone, and then Sidney says some creepy sexually assault shit, awful.
Then the MC’s best friend gives away her phone number to Sidney and then Sidney proceeds to harass a woman who has made it plenty clear that she wants to be left alone.
Like, I get that it’s a love story. But every single action the MC takes says ‘leave me alone’ but the other character just proceeds to ignore the No.
Guess it just proves that old adage of, ‘it’s only creepy if they’re not attractive’.
The writing in this book is filled with heart, humor and heat - a little something for everyone. Lauren weaves a beautiful tale between the outgoing Sydney and the very inaccessible Morgan who has constructed a wall around her heart and emotions as tall as a five story building!
I just LOVED firefighter Sydney. She was so full of sharing joy each and every day. Trying to break through neurosurgeon Morgan's impenetrable facade was no easy task, but if anyone could do it, it was Sydney!
Heart on Fire is a great addition to the series and my favorite so far. I highly recommend it!
I enjoyed this one a bit more, I guess maybe it's because the was a bit more ice to thaw on Dr Morgan's heart. Their chemistry was undeniable from the get go and it was a real treat to witness the two getting closer. It was refreshing to witness the characters battle real life issues physically and emotionally. I received an advance review copy of this book and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Really enjoyed the third installment in the series. Morgan is having a crisis of conscience following the death of a young patient on her operating table. So much so she has quit her job and run away to escape. She meets Sydney, a firefighter, at an art exhibition and sparks fly. What should have been a one night stand turns out to be something more when fate seems to keep throwing the unlikely pair together.
This book is by far the most dramatic in the Firefighter of California series, with plenty of angsts and two very beautiful but deeply imperfect women who stole my heart. Love the age gap, ice queen, friends to lovers romance, the ice queen doctor Morgan and the younger carefree firefighter Sidney are both very likable and I admire Sidney's patient and great trust in the enigmatic and aloof Morgan, and glad for the happy ending.
Sydney and Morgan’s story has wrenched my heart tightly.
Lauren Hart has penned yet another wickedly wonderful love story in a setting that is easily appreciated. The firehouse and a hospital along the California coast is just to easy to appreciate. I can smell the sea during the scenes set on the beach, I can hear the fire at the campsite and feel the breeze blowing on the cliffs. It is just so easy to read and fall in love!
Such a heart wrenching story. From the beginning you feel for Morgan knowing she went through something big and needed to step back for herself. Then enters Sydney whom almost seems like the opposite, but things just felt right. Their journey has the struggles that pulls at your heart, and just feels so real. Loved this story and is my favorite of the series so far.
Icy Morgan is a closed off neurosurgeon after the death of a patient mid-op. Fleeing from her old life she ends up in Carmel-on-sea where she runs into hot firefighter Sydney, Age gap, grumpy and sunshine and one night to forever. Delicious. But which wins? Will the fire melt the ice? Or will the ice extinguish the flame?
Morgan is world renowned neurosurgeon who just had a nervous breakdown after losing a twelve year old girl in the operating room. Moving to Carmel by The Sea, she meets Sydney a beautiful firefighter when her friend sets her kitchen on fire. A slow burn romance with lots of heated moments. Great series.
This is the third book in the Firefighters of California series, and it is my favorite so far. I cannot wait for the next book to come out. These firefighters really bring the heat and not just while they are fighting fires lol. It is a must read you don't want to miss. Wow another swooning story I loved the main characters their journey was written with so much depth making you feel apart of it all from the first time they first saw each other to the happiest ending this is my favourite in this series a must-read congratulations
“Heart on Fire: A Lesbian Romance (Firefighters of California Book 3)” by Lauren Hart
A nice addition to the Firefighters of California series! You’ll love Morgan and Sydney. And “You’re a complicated novel I can’t put down, Morgan,” is an awesome line!
There's some real life feelings that go along with being a caring doctor which makes this story not all sunshine and roses but it has a happy ending for Morgan and Sydney.
