The Wilderise Tales #4

The Silent and the Silver

Rate this book
Return to Herot's Hollow for a wintry wedding story in the final book in the Wilderise Tales series

The wedding of Alison Lennox to Dr. Keir Ainsley promises to be the event of the winter season in Herot's Hollow. (Well, apart from the first-ever 'lectric lighting of the Winter Solstice tree, that is.) Everyone in town is coming together for the big day, including Keir's sister Charlotte, the baker's new apprentice, who will be in charge of the wedding cakes.

But when Charlotte's old friend from childhood returns to town, he has some different ideas about how to celebrate the festive season. Ideas about selling baked goods and putting a certain beloved bakery out of business.

With the big day close at hand, Charlotte must find a way to keep the bakery going long enough to make Alison and Keir's celebration as sweet as they deserve. And she'll also need to find a way to deal with her growing feelings for her new rival, who is (unfortunately) as handsome as he is ambitious.

✨ fave quote ✨

The world is a better place when people share the beauty they see in it.

✨ review ✨

This final romp in Wilderise was exactly what I needed to round out my winter reading roster!!

What I loved: such a feel-good inclusive read, low-stakes but high fantasy, RIVAL BAKERS, cozy Christmas and Valentine’s vibes, alllllll the romance, cute bachelor night, already purchased a physical copy

If you’ve enjoyed the rest of the series, this book is a must! The series has already got a place of honor on my shelf. I can’t wait to go back to Wilderise the next time I need a breath of fresh air and a feeling that just maybe, everything will be alright 🤍

it's difficult to pinpoint which book in this series is my favorite.

The character arcs are so well done. With each story you learn more about the characters. I really enjoyed the diversity of each character as well - not a single character was "flat".

Each "main" character's story was interesting and spoke to different emotions.

i couldn't stop reading any of these. This book was a great ending to the stories - for now!?

A sweet and heartwarming ending to The Wilderise Tales (for now?).

It is winter time and we ooze through the months from late fall to february while Alison and Keir are preparing for their wedding and life in Herot's Hollow seems to have found its peace. We meet almost all the characters from the previous books and a new person makes its way back to Herot's Hollow. Much of this book feels a bit like an epilogue (in the good way) to the three prior books but it has a nice twist with Charlotte's bake battle with a long lost friend.
Like its predecessors, The Silent and The Silver is a feel-good cottagecore romantasy, written in an easily readable style and with charming characters you can bond with. There's a little bit of everything of everyday life that makes you feel like you're a bystander joining in on the adventures, loves and friendships Amy writes about.

As previously stated in my review for book 2 - The Bright and The Blue - I hope to have a story with its primary focus on Rinka and Idris - Either a novella that is a deeper view into how they've courted eachother or a future view that show their wedding preparations and how Rinka (and maybe also Alison) is faring in courtlife.

LOVE the recipes in the back! I must try the spicy brownies and the scones.

This will be a wistful goodbye, but I hope Amy has more heartfelt tales up her sleeves.

I first stumbled across the Wilderise books thru purchasing The Cozy Vales ‘Seasons’ books of short stories on Amazon Kindle. I bookmarked all the books recommended from that listing or a part of The Cozy Vales loose collection of story books.

‘The Good and the Green’ by Amy York was the first book I had bookmarked, and coincidentally Book one of ‘The Tales of Wilderise’ of which ‘The Silent and the Silver’ is the concluding volume.

To say that I adore this series, these characters and everything they have endured, triumphed over and proudly stand for is just not emphatic enough praise. I’ve (not so) jokingly stated that 2025 is so far been the progressively WORST year of a bad decade for me and the joy and hope that I feel after finishing one of these cozy fantasies is honestly one of the best and brightest lights I have lately.

I love that ‘The Silent and the Silver’ neatly brings to a close Keir and Allison’s story. While also leaving us soooooo many delicious new threads to follow into hopefully many, MANY more series following all the characters we’ve been introduced to in this series. Rinka & Idris, the Spriggan!, Ceri & Leo, Allison’s MOM and the college groundskeeper(?), the Mermaids kingdom, so, so many stories just waiting to be unfolded. And I’ll be waiting for every single story!

Thank you, Ms. Yorke. I LOVE your world!!!

So, being the final book in a cozy little series can be a bit tough sometimes, right? How do you tie things up, keeping things sweet and light while leaving the reader reassured that all is right in the world you are leaving behind? How also do you keep things interesting and maintain the world building (in the case of cozy fantasy series like this one) established in previous volumes.

You keep things moving. Quickly. You do keep things light. You offer pay offs. You introduce new relationships while not neglecting the ones that got you to this point. Above all else, you show growth and health and the sense that life will go on beyond the last page.

Thank you for a job well done. While there were some small parts here and there that the pacing felt ever so slightly off, I still read this quicker than I should have and found myself sorry to see it end - while also being happy to leave the scene of a happy found family secure and established. That’s really what it is all about in the end, right?

Gorg happy ending to this sweet series. Love these characters so much! Lots of marriage and cute scenes- nothing will ever beat the first book for me, but it was a comfort to be back in Wilderise. My favorite chapters were the bakery chapters, making scones, croissants, and biscuits. YUM! I’ll read anything you make Amy Yorke.

It was a cute way to end the series bit it felt like this book was a big epilogue. Nothing really surprising happened expect for the characters having their happy ending.

Even this was the ending of the series it was a "open" ending and there's a possibility to return to this world.

Although this book is not my usual fare, the author had interesting, believable characters, and good story lines throughout the series. I would read more by this author
