War for the planet of the cats!
A massive showdown with the humans in encampment and the cats.
I really enjoyed the build up and the execution of this volume.
Again, great art and pacing as well as continuing to add even more layers to the world.
Would’ve been 5 stars but there’s something that happens in the last chapter that comes out of nowhere that throws off the story off.
Also, we’re 5 volumes in and we still don’t know anything about Kunagi’s past.

Had to read this, because I found out there's going to be an anime! Heck yeah!

While I can't recommend starting with THIS volume instead of the obvious starting point, it's still funny to show others certain scenes out of context, like Mitsuru's cat translator (which ), because the gags themselves don't need a lot of setup to convey the joke.

Granted, this volume is actually more action-focused than others, due to the twist of , so while it's still a comedy, it's not like laugh-a-minute or anything. But the art is fantastic, the story is somehow still compelling, and even though it feels like the only things injecting new life into the story are Jones and the fact the cats are evolving, I do want this series to keep going for a while! Even stories I really like, I worry about them getting stale and just dragging things out beyond their natural end point, so I'm glad when a series ends "on time" on a high note, vs. dragging things out and adding nothing.

...

Anyway, CATS!! :D

The strongest weapon in the world...
Isn't a pair of giant fangs or a set of sharp claws...
Or an advanced intellect…

It's something that fascinates and bewitches the entire world...
Cuteness.

It's rare to find a story which is a ridiculous as it is sublime. Nothing about this series should work beyond the initial premise yet they manage to create a narrative which is compelling and laugh out loud funny.

A new virus is spreading across the world. Rather than the usual zombie approach, this virus turns the infected into cats! Cue exposed bellies desperate to be rubbed, kitten eyes, and other nefarious tactics to lure unexpecting humans to their doom!

Kunagi and Kaoru may not have found Tsutsumi but they have found refuge in an old museum. Working with other survivors, their role is to seek out supplies and resources. When another team do not return from a similar mission, they are tasked with rescuing any survivors.

Having survived the horrors of the shopping centre, the gang return to the base with a new ally, a cat! Despite initial scepticism, they are welcomed back into the fold and Jones (named after the cat from Alien) soon settles in.

Danger, however, isn't far away. After a long awaited reunion, a new threat looms large which will test the group and the community as a whole.

This is getting very interesting. A new villain is introduced and the story seems to be moving in a new direction. 5 stars.

Headbutting can be considered a sign of affection, or marking someone or something a cat considers to be part of its safe zone. A head-butt from a cat.

In other words, to receive a headbutt is proof that some one has received the favor of a cat. It's a humbling kind of happiness.

This series is so unserious. I love it. The art is reminiscent of horror manga. But then everyone is being silly over cats and it's just so funny. To the point that they apologize to the kitties for squirting them with water to scare them away, knowing the only other alternative is for them to be touched by a cat and become cats themselves.

This volume left me with a lot of questions. We already knew these weren't normal cats. They turn humans into cats with a touch. But now their powers are growing. And the bonus story had a few cats communicating with human beings, and even giving them food as a reward for saving one of them. So how self-aware are these cats? Are they turning humans into cats on purpose? Why?

A character I barely knew got turned into a cat, and it actually kind of made me sad. But now I'm wondering, is being turned into a cat only the beginning? I don't know if the next volume will clear things up (probably not because that would mark the end of the series) but I'm gonna check it out just in case.

This absurd manga about a virus that turns people into cats in just so much fun. In this volume, Kunagi and company are attacked by a horde of animals being controlled by cats. It's wild. The cats gaining the ability to "ride" other animals and become one with them, like being able to fly by being carried by large birds, or ride on the back of a gorilla is such a silly power, and I LOVE IT. I love that the human's fend off the cats with super soakers too! It is such a "humane" way to fight off the threat. The artwork here is really top notch (props to Mecha-Roots) and the story by Hawkman is just so fun and a great nod to various sci-fi and horror films. Looking forward to volume 6.

Second to last volume and it’s crazy. A herd of zoo animals being controlled by cats took down the human shelter. A cat is transformed into a human??? Like a nekomata! Or something. 😂

This cat centered world is so interesting. The bonus story at the end focusing on some introverted survivors was my favorite. ❤️ It does give me the idea that the human turned cats have desires beyond simply turning all humans into cats. They can form thoughts and be empathetic!

I wasn't sure how far the creators could take this concept, but they keep building on the ridiculousness. There were a few moments that actually made me laugh out loud: the cat translator that uses movie dialogue (and the conversations that result) and the sequence when the cats achieved air superiority.

My least favorite of the series so far, but I'm still not mad about it. I brought home a new cat last week, and sitting here reading this insanity while snuggling him is 100% the perfect way to spend a holiday. Can't complain.

such an original idea I love it. I love it how the humans love cats so much they would rather get turned into a cat rather than hurt one so they could escape. 🐾🐈

I wish I knew enough of the movie references to really get all the the jokes. It's still fun, though.

Night of the Living Cat Review

4/5 stars

This will be a spoiler free review. Onto the review!

I picked up this relatively new manga series because I saw someone reading them at the library, and I was curious what they were about. The general story is this: There is a virus going around that turns people into cats. If you come into contact with a cat, you will be infected and become a cat yourself. The main characters are all workers from a cat cafe, and they’re trying to escape all the cats who keep being super cute and trying to interact with them. That’s basically the entire plot.

I can’t tell if this is meant to be a serious dystopian series or not. The threat doesn’t feel all that real most of the time, because the cats are so darn cute. Plus, there are references to all sorts of sci-fi and dystopian movies, tv shows, and books, which are hilarious if you get the joke. I only understood some of it, but it didn’t really matter. It was funny either way. Because of all the jokes and the super cute cats this almost feels like it’s supposed to be a parody.

I really liked all the cute cats and the funny moments, but I wish I had a bit more connection to the characters. We haven’t gotten much about their backstories yet. But that could be coming in later volumes. We mostly get these over the top action scenes where they’re using cat toys and catnip to avoid being touched by the infected cats. If you’re looking for a fun series where it doesn’t take itself too seriously, I definitely recommend this series.

Or if you just really like cats. This is definitely a series for cat lovers. I may be a fox fan usually, but cats are also cute. They’re the practical version of foxes. Cute as heck and actually possible to have as pets.

Have a nice day/night everyone!
