This is the third time I've reread the first few chapters, and I loved it just as much as the first time!
I know the premise of this story is what got me intrigued originally because I've never read a story where a FL uses the second chance she's been given to do everything in her power to have the ML's baby. LOL! It feels very original to me, but I also really, really love Bianca!
From the opening story, I felt invested in her life and how she would change. I admire how she doesn't put up with people walking over her, stands up and has uncomfortable conversations with her husband, and how she is making sure there is a way to provide for herself. She is truly courageous, and I want nothing but the best for her moving forward!
I also really like the cast of characters and love the humor sprinkled throughout! It makes for a compelling story outside of Bianca's goal and her overall change!
In Countess Bianca de Arno's first life, she eventually died in poverty (maybe in her 30s or 40s?), wishing that she could do things over again. Somehow, this wish is granted, and she awakens as herself at age 18.
Bianca's father married her off when she was only 10 or so years old. The only person young Bianca trusted was her nursemaid, who died when Bianca was 13. In her first life, Bianca was cold towards her husband, Zachary, and spent his money like it was nothing. They first had sex when she was 20 and, after that, only ever just before Zachary headed to battle. Bianca never produced an heir, and he eventually died when she was only 25.
This time around, Bianca is determined to bypass the mistakes of her first life, the first of which, she is sure, is the fact that she never produced Zachary an heir. She remembers rumors that Zachary had a mistress - while that situation wouldn't be ideal, she does her best to convince him that she's fine with it as long as she's allowed to do her duty as his wife. Meanwhile, Zachary is surprised in and doubtful of this sudden change in his wife, who's been afraid of him since they were first married, and annoyed at the idea she's gotten into her head that he has a mistress.
So far, this is okay. I'm reminded of Under the Oak Tree. Zachary seems like a more distant and less angry Riftan, and Zachary and Bianca have a communication rift that's similarly as large as the one between Riftan and Maxi. Bianca (the second time around, anyway) is more aggressive than Maxi but similarly flustered by her hot and intimidating husband. Both Riftan and Zachary insist that their wives deserve and should be given only the best.
I was a little uncomfortable with the way Bianca beating a maid was generally treated as a positive change in her attitude towards being the lady of the house. Multiple characters were more concerned that she'd hurt her hand beating the maid than that she'd beat the maid. Granted, the maid was an idiot who'd been running her mouth without checking her surroundings, making it sound like she had plans to try seducing Zachary and insulting Bianca.
This somehow led to another maid, Yvonne, being kind and loyal towards her (because Bianca reminded her of her sister, or something). Whatever. I initially mistook Yvonne for Bianca at the end of her first life. I don't think there's actually supposed to be some sort of connection there, but who knows?
By the end of the volume, Bianca was acting like one of those "reborn in my favorite novel" heroines, preparing to start a business. I'm interested enough to try the next volume, and it doesn't hurt that the artwork is nice.
thank you to netgalley for the ARC! i liked this one. the art style fits the fmc perfectly — i love that the main characters don’t look like your usual types. the story itself leans a bit mainstream, but the execution and the side characters make it feel fresh. it’s not as over the top as most manhwa, which honestly made me enjoy it even more.
Countess Bianca de Arno is a haughty, extravagant woman who neglects her duties and spends copious amounts of money. At least she was before she died and wakes back up as her nineteen year old self. Now she’ll do anything to prevent her tragic death!
I don’t know if it’s me or something else but I’m not sure how I feel about this volume. So many people rave about the series but it was rough for me. Although Bianca is trying to turn over a new leaf she’s hard to watch. For instance, when Bianca caught the maid trash talking her, she hit the maid repeatedly and was almost praised for it. Or the time when she joked about jumping her husband to make a baby? If the roles were reversed I think people might see it differently. I get that it’s common for women to be married young in this world (nine or ten years old in Bianca’s situation) and pop out two or three kids by eighteen but that doesn’t make it any better. Maybe I’m just tired of fantasy worlds - that could be whatever they want to be - continuing to marry insanely young protagonists. Also, the miscommunication trope between Bianca and her husband is super strong…
Other than that, I do see the story having potential and would be interested in seeing Bianca turn her life around.
Thank you Yen Press for providing this book for review consideration via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.
I really liked this one! It has a similar plot to other manhwa of this genre, but the main character was so refreshing. The art looks really nice and I love how the mc isn't styled like the typical female lead. I also really like all of the side characters that are being introduced, I'm looking forward to seeing Bianca become more friendly with people that she can trust and rely on.
I'm excited to see how the romance develops. I like how protective the male lead already is, but I am worried there will be a lot of miscommunication (at least on Bianca's part since she assumes a lot). To be honest, I was concerned about the age gap when I realized how young she was when she got married, but nothing inappropriate happened and considering the time period this is set in, I am willing to look past it.
Beautiful full color artwork. So impressed with the art style and story. There seems to be a lot of media out lately in the manga/anime/kdrama/cdrama space that are focusing on “my second chance to re-do” my life but this one does stand out! The humor and romantic elements are really fun and I would recommend this to romance readers looking to try manga! Particularly historical/regency romance readers would enjoy this manga!
07/11/2025 2 ⭐ I love the art and the colours, and I do think the actual story would be interesting enough if I continued, but I just can't get over how horrifically women are treated in this world. I was fully expecting to meet some god-awful evil villain woman because the main character is constantly described as rude, mean, extravagant and immature. But actually she's just an 18 year old girl who was sold into a marriage at the old age of NINE and is expected to have at least 2 or 3 children by now... Her husband isn't horrifically old and decrepit, but at a guess, he's at least 10 years older than her, which is just so disgusting. Nothing gross has actually happened between them, thank god, but just knowing that the grossness is not only encouraged but expected is something I just don't want to read, so I'll be giving this series a pass, unfortunately.
I’ll be honest and say I genuinely don’t remember much from this manwha aside from I liked it.
It’s an age gap but to be honest it isn’t obvious aside from like the flashbacks. It’s your typical villainess died and got back in time manwha but I like this since it’s completed.
The MC and the ML actually has chemistry even if they’re a marriage of convenience and the ML is such a sweetie, the reason why ML allows MC to spend all his money is cause he feels like he has a debt to pay (towards MC father) plus having a young bride in a place where she isn’t familiar with would be hard so he tried to make it as comfortable for her, they barely saw each other in their past life. The ML died causing the MC to live a life of tragedy til she died, the typical plot.
So in the second life/ current life she thought that having a child would secure her place in the MC estate.
It’s really cute, like literally so sweet and wholesome and the ML is just a sweetie, cold but a sweetie, MC isn’t annoying or shit, I genuinely liked her.
Good read, will prob read again.
Note: I didn’t read the side stories since it’s a separate couple.
More a 3.5 really. It's a bit of a weird one - I like that it's a redo/go back in time kind of isekai rather than a 'reborn' one, as that's a bit less common. I also liked that she didn't magically change to being a good person, rather that she's learnt from her experiences, and we find out that she was probably more likely shy and extremely lonely than she was wicked. Equally, the scene of her punishing the maid felt like it went a bit far, which is sort of mentioned in the story, but also not really addressed? That said, the maid was being viciously rude, but even still... I liked the parts after that more, where she's trying to learn to manage the estate. I wasn't especially fond of her trying to persuade her husband to try for an heir, but equally, in that time period and given what she had just gone through, I understand where that thought came from. Might continue, as yet undecided.
Read this one sometime in 2022/2023???? not sure, but I know I dropped the series as the whole TAPAS thing go so annoying. Constantly having to wait tap wait and tap, I just kept forgetting the series. But I am excited that this one is coming out in book-form and I can FINALLY read everything! This series is just so fun, and I am rooting for our MC to get her happy ending! The art is so pretty!
Note: I was granted access to an e-ARC through NetGalley, in exchange for an honest review.
Marriage of Convenience is a high fantasy romance manga featuring the “second chance at life” trope. The artwork is beautiful, and fans of love interests with white/silver hair will no doubt quickly fall for the MMC.
The story is told from the POV of the FMC, who is getting the chance to re-live a few years of her life in hopes she won’t end up destitute. While I don’t mind well-crafted morally grey MCs, I struggle to connect with characters presented as mostly shallow or selfish (particularly when it’s their whole personality, and when they are the main narrative voice) so I didn’t really click with her — though I’m sure her character growth will be integral part of later volumes.
As it stands, I found this first volume ok. The world building was a bit muddy but that could have been fine if so many characters hadn’t been introduced at once, preventing any of them from getting adequate page time. I’m sure we’ll find out more in later volumes, however in my opinion in character-centric narratives it is really important to have better intros in the first volume, because the characters are more of a hook than the plot is, and if a reader isn’t captured by them they may choose not read later volumes where the characterization is better explored.
I didn’t dislike it, but it didn’t quite reel me in enough to want to rush to read the rest of the story.
Marriage of Convenience is a story where Bianca gets a do-over of her married life. This is the first volume in the series. It's a historical romans. The set-up was a bit confusing at first with the time jump and Bianca's age. But I am really enjoying the story. The artwork is amazing. I love the characters, especially Bianca.
The series was first published in 2022. I am so happy that there is an English version now. I hope the rest of the series will be available soon!
I don't remember the last time I read a manhva that actually cared about the political side of the plot this much... And which executed it this well. Bianca was an amazing protagonist and her love for Zachary left me all giggly and teary eyed 💖 Sir Robert was my best boi thou 🥰
side note: price jacob could've been such a great i ended up with a villian male lead like 👀
this one! it’s a crime, that this beautiful art is not put up for everyone to admire :( the plot is so good! and the political aspect was well done! this little arno family has my heart and soul in a chokehold 🥹✨ the found family is so special, the count, countess, butler, the knights and the maid 💗 be still my heart. even the princess slayed so hard! 🦋☁️✨
thank you so much to Netgalley and Yen Press for providing me with an advanced readers copy!
i need the next volume immediately! the beginning of the story is so intriguing. our female lead returned in time as her younger self after dying which is a typical premise for the genre. what made it interesting, she doesn't plan to avoid her husband or get rid of him as it always goes. instead, she wants to have a baby with him.
i loved the main character. she's funny enough but also makes very logical decisions. there is no clear villain in this story (at least yet), just the story of our couple's life and our female lead undoing mistakes in her previous life. as i said, i need the next volume already, the manhwa is so addicting.
It's still a pleasure to discover once again the beginning of Bianca and Zachary's story.
I remember reading it on Tapas when it started being licensed. The first chapters explore how Bianca comes back to the past and use her knowledge to improve her own situation.
They'll work to improve (slowly) their relationship which is at the moment, misunderstanding land.
It's a very beautiful webtoon and the art gets even better.
La mejor historia que he leído. Los personajes son god y los vatos todos bellos. Quiero enamorarme yo también de un peliblanco cara de qlo con buenos sentimientos. Zachary es el estándar
I love this art style and I’m interested in seeing where this story goes, even though I think the dying and going back and time to do life all over again plot is a little tired out🥸
Pas mon préféré du genre, même s'il y a une tentative de ne pas faire une totale copie de ce qui est déjà disponible. De plus, un premier tome très très introductif donc difficile de s'attacher à cette série à partir de ce seul tome 1
