Karma Merlot has never been chased. She's never been desired by anyone worth bragging about, and she knew early on that she wasn't cute. From her bad skin to her messed up teeth, the insecurities that she possessed made her an introvert. To everyone around her, Karma was missing out on life. She was too young to act like an old maid, but Karma didn't desire to put herself out there only to be ignored. A visit to Miami to see her cousin changes everything and once the new and improved Karma makes it back to Diamond Cove, she begins to see that the very things she desired may not be all that she thought they were including her handsome client Amiri.
Amiri Daniels is a young Muslim with the urge to do right, but the devil on his shoulder has more influence over his life than he cares to admit. Amiri is running from demons while chasing his dreams and some days, he doesn't know if he's coming or going. One thing he knows for sure is that if something doesn't change, he might crash out and risk everything he's working towards. Love is one thing he doesn't have time for but when it comes, will he be able to resist it?
Now Ms.Natisha I expected a whole lot more from you. This story ended up in a good place but getting there was ROUGH AF.
We open the book with Karma a “Ugly duckling” who wasn’t really described in enough depth other than she was ugly skinny, had acne and needed braces. Like all of which she could correct because she was young and getting to the money. Like even without insurance acne meds is cheap and you can get them in an app, the braces another easy fix for someone bringing in $63,000 after just tax season not including her hairstyling money. Like sorry I didn’t get ugly from that just cheap and low effort. Like sis admits she ain’t even try to look decent but whatever lol we moving on. Karma seemed very intelligent but once she got some dick the brain must’ve got knocked loose
Amiri was okay but I feel like as an author if you gonna include a religion do some research. Something about saying Allah and the devil in the same sentence was making me itch. Like while I’m sure some Muslims do refer to him as such I KNOW THEY HAVE A MUSLIM EQUIVALENT and I know this cus a quick lil google search. Like I’m sorry if you gonna include something new then take time and research it so it can be included in a respectful sense. I had a hard time connecting to Amiri but I did feel sorry for the trials and tribulations he faced.
What was with the weird beat on women fellas that was included, like Darrin was giving predator vibes and Quail was straight up abusive. I felt like this wasn’t the story to include that in. Like why do we have two books occurring at once? Like sorry I know it’s supposed to be light hearted and a lil Kiki but saying that boy was killing animals unsettled me. Like yall knew he was off and did nothing to protect Tara or the baby. Like I’m not understanding why y’all ain’t have the cops waiting for him at the house. Like Brayden was FIGHTING WITH HIM before she even pulled up yet yall thought to handle it on yall own. Then the whole he HAD TO TELL YALL PARENT NOT TO PUT THE HOUSE UP FOR BOND. Like what kinda raggedy parents do yall got.
Overall this felt like a throw away novel like this was something the author was piecing together but didn’t really take the time to flesh out and dive in. Cus you telling me a lil face wash and pole classes helped bring miss girl out the pits of low self esteem and self confidence. Like please we spent 6 chapters reading about her being sooo ugly and SHE WAS THE MAIN ONE DRAGGING IT. Sorry Karma needed therapy for the self esteem issue and then being a victim of domestic violence. Amiri needed to be on the couch too. Idk with as many books as she’s written this just didn’t feel like a high quality read that I expect from her
Ms. Author did it again. I love the characters and the story plot. The hustle was realistic. You had to do what you have to do to get what you need.
It never cease to amaze me how some men don’t know when to let go after doing so much damage to a relationship. To let your emotions get the best of you when you’re faced with the reality that your actions have consequences is diabolical.
I’m glad all ended well. I truly love this author’s work. She’s one of my favorites. I’m reading down her catalog.
I loved Karma and her glow up but what I loved the most was that although she was new to dating she wasn’t naive. She didn’t just accept anything a man gave her including Amiri. She told him just because she had feelings for him that wasn’t going to stop anything when it came to her dating life and she stood on business. He had to show and prove he wanted her and that made their journey to love so enjoyable to read about.
I hated that Karma felt how she did about herself but was so happy with her outcome. This book told a story about an insecure woman and the people who helped her see her true beautiful. Her “friend” Toi is the reason a lot of us don’t have friends because they be envy. I loved that Amiri and Karma coexisted so well together and grew. This was a cute short read!
This was an emotional roller coaster. Karma reminded me so much of a younger me. I'm so happy for her glow up. And Amiri!!!! Let me get to manifesting myself an Amiri. I really liked both of their spirits. Just genuinely good people. Such a good story.
This is a young adult novel. Everything from the characters ages, their dialog and their reckless behavior proves that point. For more than 30% of the book the FMC voiced how ugly she was and the MMC voiced how broke he was. She sat in the house scrolling social media while he sold herion and robbed people. As a reader how was I supposed to root for any of that!? Halfway through the book the FMC finally got some confidence but still found herself being played with more times than necessary, even with the MMC- who in my opinion was toxic. Around the 80% mark they finally got on one accord and their dialog and interactions finally made me want to give them my full attention. Unfortunately, it was a little too late for me to like them as characters though. Overall, this book was Blah for more time than it was good and it isn't one that I would recommend to mature readers.
Karma and Amiri were something. Her entire life, Karma wasn't much to look at. She was skinny, bad skin, just not societies version of beautiful. A lot of people had no problem telling her either. The only one's who hyped her were her brother and cousin. As a lotician and braider one of her clients was a constant source of admiration. Amiri didn't really show her much attention, but not out of pettiness. When her cousin invites her to spend some time in Miami she decides wth? Karma goes down to Miami and her cousin literally pours into her and baby Karma gets her glow up. She's got fashion sense, she's got a skin regimen, and she has an exercise and diet schedule. She goes from ugly duckling to beautiful swan and the boys come to the yard! Amiri finds out Karma had a crush a long time from her so called friend he takes down. What threw him off was, Toi put herself on instead of putting in a word for her so called friend. Karma learns quick that the dating pool isn't for the faint of heart. She and Amiri start something, but things keep getting in the way. They literally go through a lot before they get it all the way together and these two end up where they're supposed to be. I enjoyed this one. I loved seeing Karma finally living life, being OUTSIDE, and really seeing her true worth. Amiri, he grew a lot and let go of his demons too. Happy Reading Y'all!💋
A solid ok read by Natisha Raynor. Although not my absolute fav by her but it wasn't a bad story at all! It's more of a coming of age/life growing pain story. It was actually a little different, a virgin FMC and Muslim MMC. Like seeing two kids (mid 20s) figure out that next level, make changes, and manifest what they want to work through guilt.
Karma feels she is an ugly duckling. she had had a crush on Amiri since forever but felt she could never have him. A trip to Miami with her cousin sets her to right, and this ugly duckling starts making changes for her goals. Conflicts pop up with haters and snake in the grass. Having never dated or drank or smoked, Karma learns how to adjust, push through, and figure out her goals.
Amiri is troubled with deep guilt from childhood, but he has his own growing pains to go through. A fairly decent dude who makes normal mistakes he is just trying is best to work hard for his goals and hustle.
This felt more like an Romantic Urban Fiction than true blue romance. We see the characters make changes, grow and learn, but the romance runs parallel to their growth. The last third of the book really turns it up to end with the romance feels.
Overall the story was 4 stars, lots of nice gems on knowing your self worth. I loved witnessing Karma grow and find herself. But the pacing of her glow up was too fast. I wish the author would’ve did a bit of time hopping. Because someone with acne skin isn’t see a clear up in 4 weeks. Even the weight thing was a bit too fictional.
But she sold me on still wanting Amiri for Karma after Toi. Because initially that was way too cringe for me, but after Smooth- the scales felt balanced. Call me petty, but I don’t want the MMC to one up the FMC.
So as a couple, they were cute. But half the story was them entertaining someone else. Which made their romantic part of their relationship all about sex and finally getting on the same page. Not much dating and connecting outside of the bedroom.
Still, I enjoyed the book. Karma was a refreshing FMC, especially in the wake of the fictional IG model mode of FMC typically written about. She was regular and normal; which I loved.
One thing I can say is that Natisha don’t write like the next author. Her catalogue is very different. Her female characters aren’t the same and her male characters aren’t the same. It’s a breath of fresh air. Main reason why I enjoy her books.
This story was a cute straight to the point kind of thing. If she would have done a couple of things differently , this book could have been 5 stars. Also, had errors here and there.
Karmas brother had entirely too much book time. We didn’t need that side story of Quail & Tara. I didn’t see the point. This is not their book.
Also it felt like things were happening too fast. The pacing of the story is one thing that needed to be worked on. I don’t feel like we got enough of Karma being ‘ugly’.
Such a well put together story, and although short, it didn’t feel short if that makes sense. Story started with us meeting Karma a hard working, down to earth young lady who thought she was unattractive. Her cousin helped her to find self confidence and let me tell you, home girl was getting it in and making up for lost time. Thankfully a situation occurred which caused her to pump her breaks, and open up her eyes to the reality of the dark side of dating. Thankfully she was able to find love without too much pain and suffering.
This book is a great read. Us Beautiful women, that some of us don’t know I was self-worth need to manifest to have confidence in manifest for a good man that we want to be with God will take care of it and make sure it happens. I’m so happy for, karma and Amir She manifest their relationship for long time, it finally happened as she went through some challenges of being a virgin. Saving her love for Amir , Dealing with fake friends like tae who’s a snake . Karma waken up Took a trip to Miami with her cousin, and found her self-confidence. It’s about growth and becoming a woman of her own. Amir admired her too for a long time. Happy they are together.
I like the fact that Karma got the man who she had been crushing on for years but I didn’t like the fact that Amiri didn’t want nor notice her until she transformed. Back then he didn’t want her and now that she’s hot he’s all up on her. I like that Karma kept her options open until Amiri decided that he wanted to make things official between them. Toi was never a friend and I’m glad that she got rocked in the club. I hate that Quail spiraled out of control and now Choice has to grow up with his dad being incarcerated. I’m glad that everything is working out for Amiri and Karma.

Whew, the way Karma was so down on herself but to have so called friends and family be so hurtful is INSANE!!!! With a brother like Quail she didn’t need enemies. Amiri bless his heart was carrying around so much guilt that he was losing sight of who he was and the dreams he had got himself. Karma glow up was beautiful to read about abc I loved that for her. She and Amiri made a great couple and I’m glad everything worked out for them. Great job as always sis 👏🏽
Enjoyed from start to finish! I loved how Karma's family was able to lift her up, in spite of how she felt about herself physically. Beauty is skin deep. You can be pretty and have the worst inner being and soul. Amiri was carrying so much on his back with guilt about sonethibg that wasnout of his co trol being that he was a kid, but he managed to get release in the end! Amiri and Karma being together was fate, and though there were stumbling blocks, they still managed to be together and left one another up!
Toi was a jealous, mean girl. She basically used Karma and constantly talked down to her. I hated how low Karma self esteem was and how her so called friend made her feel even worse about her looks. In the book she kept being referred to as an ugly duckling. I like how one trip to Miami with her Cousin and she helped boosted her confidence and encouraged her to try new things. Karma came back and started turning heads. She even got the guy that she had been crushing on.
I really enjoyed this story. I was happy to see Karma come out of her shell and just start living right. She had solid family members and friends to uplift her when fake friends like Toi tried tearing her down. This almost felt like a coming of age story in a way, even though everyone were adults. I’m also glad that Amiri let go of his trauma from what happened with his cousins.
And lock Quail the hell up and never let him out. Him and Darrin both are prime examples of what happens when a woman chooses herself.
I didn’t know what to expect when I initially started reading this book. Karma had very little confidence and always referred to herself as ugly. But, Babee, Karma went out to visit her cousin and came back a totally different person. Now, her so called friend, Toi, was a snake in the grass and constantly talked down to Karma. She even went so far as to go after Amiri as soon as she found out that Karma had a crush on him. Some friend! I loved that Karma and Amiri got themselves together.
At first I was getting impatient with the build up but as I got further into the book I realized it was necessary. It was nice seeing how both characters dealed with things separately then together. I hate that Karma’s dating experience was trash and wished she had some good experiences before Amiri. I also feel like Toi should’ve gotten a little more heat but fine lol. Overall this was a good, cute read.
This book was soooo good! I loved the unexpected love story and watching Karma’s amazing glow-up. Her journey was truly inspiring, and I appreciated how her cousin played a huge role in bringing out the best in her. Through their support, Karma finally realized that her so-called friends weren’t helping her confidence at all. The transformation she undergoes is both heartwarming and empowering. Highly recommend!

“Karma” was not my favorite Natisha Raynor book. Honestly, I was disappointed by the juvenile, volatile & petty banter with characteristic some of the characters. Nevertheless, thank to the transformative closet, concerned & diligent efforts of a fairy god-cousin (Aleena), Karma got an identity & Amiri managed to discover his voice🤦🏾♀️🥴‼️…The urban Gen Z version of The Wiz 🤷🏾♀️ on a budget.
This story was so good and it touched a lot of the insecurities that young adults go through as they navigate this thing called life!! I loved Karma’s character she was naive and green and never pretended to be anything but!! Her and Toi actually suffered from the same insecurities but their souls were different and in the end her and Amiri got their happy ending together!!
This story was pretty slow but escalated very quickly at certain points. Overall, it was just okay. Amari honestly didn’t start paying attention to Karma until she changed. But Karma also needed to want more for herself. Karma was also moving too fast with almost everybody. Karma sleeping with Smooth was crazy.
The writing was very repetitive. Some things could’ve been cleaned up. Like an ankle bracelet is an anklet. There were also some inconsistencies.
Loved Amiri and Karma's love story. Karma had it rough growing up, all she had was the love of her family. None of the men that she was pretty enough, or had the right body. But all that changed with the help of her cousin Aleena. This book touches on jealousy, domestic violence, and how to grieve. Amiri was having a hard time grieving the loss of his cousin. Love story of two lonely people struggling with their individual challenges.
I enjoyed this book the characters are as real as it can get Karma had low self-esteem but baby when she loved her self a little more and got that push it was up from here and I loved that, Amiri was fighting so many demons due to a childhood trauma which so many adults have but faith, forgiveness and love prevailed for the two of them. Hopefully we hear more from them!
Natisha Raynor such a good read. You really touched on how people really feel about you. What I loved was how each person found w hat their place was. Seeing Karma grow was so good to me. Amiri found his place and is showing how to live in peacefulness in a chaotic world. 🤗🤗🤗
