It might not hold the same charm as the first volumes, but this is still a fun series, in such a weird way... Like the action tends to be a bit confusing and some times repetitive, and there is little to zero progress in the actual plotline, but I feel kind of strangely attached to these characters nonetheless.

The Four Little Sh*ts continue their search for Damemaru’s ship on the mysteriously empty savage planet. Answers, bones, and more chaos ahead!

there is nothing funnier than the characters that are skeletons emitting emotion
and asking Damemaru WHAT ARE YOU

This story is fun so far. I think the major difference that stands out between 'Dorohedoro' and this is the pacing. This volume really didn't progress the story too much but it fleshed things out longer. 'Dorohedoro' is rapid compared to this.
Looking forward to volume 9!

⭐️ 8.5/10 - What is Damemaru?

Checking in for the series overall, since volume 9 has yet to be released!
Dai Dark is less ambitious than Dorohedoro (I assume that's where most folks are coming from), but it's still a pretty fun read. The whole series is basically The Misadventures of Boy and Backpack in Comically Graphic Space. The plot is somewhat disjointed, but it does suit the story's premise. Admittedly, it has been getting a bit repetitive for me; even though the progression is pretty fast-paced, it feels like we've only taken baby steps on the main plot (i.e., Sanko trying to find out who cursed him). Regardless, Hayashida is so good at making characters lovable in the most absolute batshit grotesque environments possible.

This one's still ongoing, and so my feelings may change as the story nears and/or reaches its conclusion! I definitely like this offering from Q Hayashida, but I don't know if it hits the same as Dorohedoro. Dorohedoro felt more visceral, the drawings felt sharper, and the story felt more structured. These thoughts could have something to do with the exponentially increasing chaos level and the "pieces falling together" aspect of the last 50ish chapters of Dorohedoro, and maybe Dai Dark just needs more time to bubble over into that explosion of batshit craziness...we will see...

This was a trippy volume. The castle that Sanko and the other were in was insane. It made you feel like you didn’t know what would be in the next room. When Sanko’s Dark Flesh didn’t work on these creatures then seeing them not being affected by Shimada, it got me worried a bit for them. Also the monster ate Damemaru. I thought the Monster’s other forms really reminded me of a Devil from Dorohedoro. I mean the monster does have a Devil’s tail. But from the beginning I always thought that there might be a connection network the two series. It was cool to learn more of Damemaru and Sanko’s lore.

I’m so curious about what/who Hajime Damemaru is (along with Nagurun- since they don’t talk much).

It’s a cool story it’s just so slow. Wish there was more action.

Q. Hayashida is a master of mixing comedy with the grotesque.
