I didn't like any of the characters in the book. Bleak, dark, hopeless - although I do understand that the communist characters were supposed to be the ones bringing light and hope. But we all know -a posteriori- what kind of light the communism brings. But the set is realistic, interesting and thought provoking. The writing is smooth and captivating - even though I must admit I found it tiresome at the beginning.
