“Do you know what it is to make an enemy of a god?”
Return to the world of Hathuldria and the Empire of Luciferian where gods, monsters, and heroes await you.
Orion’s pampered and privileged life as the son of a wealthy merchant is changed forever when he is forced to make an ominous deal with Obsidian—the god of the dead—to save the life of the man he loves.
But when the time comes for him to hold up his end of the bargain with the god, he discovers he is in way over his head. Orion now needs to learn how to survive among deadly monsters, as well as the scorned gods who cursed them, while doing the bidding of the Lord of the Dead.
His lonely path also crosses that of an arrogant demigod, Eric, who’s destiny has placed a chip on his shoulder and a target on his back. But there is more going on than meets the eye.
Obsidian is brewing a dark and vengeful plot that he will stop at nothing to fulfil. Orion and Eric must learn to work together before these plans can come to fruition and reshape the face of the Luciferian Empire as well as its pantheon of gods for eternity.
Myth and legend abound in this spellbinding sequel to A Prophecy of Flowers and Lightning.
I finished this epic book a couple of hours ago. I gasped, laughed, loved, cried, and cursed throughout this book. Dare I say, I enjoyed this book more than I did Book 1 and the short story 🤔
The epilogue had me gapping, since I did not foresee a certain someone, who I loved towards the end of Book 1, turn up. When that person did, I had a feeling why they were there.
You can find them at Bargain Books, Exclusive Books, Wordsworth, via Krest Publication's website or Michael Ferguson's link in his bio.
Thank you, Michael, Krest and especially @bookmark_my_world for including me in this read-along and organizing everything. I am grateful for this journey.
I know we have a while to wait for the next and last installment, so I really hope we get a few short stories in between.
For now, I need to go back and finish my reread of Book 1 and the short story.
----------- Just adding a 2nd one as I read a short story. That I need to make up my reading goal
This is a story that crescendos beautifully. I was a little unsure at the start. I found Orion difficult to like. Even after being warned by the blurb that he was a bratty character, I still found him to be A LOT to deal with. The overall set up - attending an Academy; sneaking out of the house; the OTT fights with his sister - also felt a bit more on the YA-side than the previous book in this series, and more juvenile than I prefer in books. But I trusted the author and stuck with the story, which was an excellent decision!
The world building in the Luciferian Mythos is impeccable. The author has a remarkable ability to create fascinating, multi-faceted monsters. They're gross and terrifying and I can't get enough of them. The pantheon is equally interesting. This is truly a world where the gods have their own agendas. I loved how A God of Flames and Monsters in particular played with the idea of legends, and how events can become stories and eventually myths. I loved how AGoFaM incorporated the events of A Prophecy of Flowers and Lightning in illustrating this point. This book expanded what we've seen of Hathuldria and as much as I was bummed things didn't pick up exactly where they left off at the end of the last book, I enjoyed seeing more of the Empire, and life outside of the capital city.
I shot myself in the foot reading this so soon after it was published because, of course, I want to know what happens next!! I can't wait for the next installment in this series.
A God of Flames and Monsters is the second book in The Luciferian Mythos series by Michael Ferguson and I absolutely loved it!!
If you like Mythology, Slow burn MM Romance, Friends to Lovers, Lovers to Enemies, Magic, Gods, Monsters and Not a tragedy this book is for you.
The book follows Orion as he makes a deal with the Lord of the Dead to safe the love of his life. We also follow Eric, the demi-god, whose destiny is to be a Hero.
This book is written so incredibly well. I was captivated from the first page. The story is told mainly from Orion’s pov but we get a snippets from Eric’s pov as well.
Orion is a Golden retriever and will do anything for the people he loves and for people in general. He is definitely one of my favourite characters. He has such a big heart and he is the underrated hero. Eric is such a cinnamon roll and just the man Orion needs. He is the Hero but he his own demons to fight.
I love this book so much. It is so easy to read and there is so much happening that I didn’t want to stop at the end of each section. (We read the book in sections for a readalong)
I enjoyed the short mythology stories throughout the book. It made me understand the story and characters so much better.
The ending of the book was chef’s kiss and the epilogue!!! I can’t wait to read the third and final book in the series.
Thanks so much Michael and KREST Publishers for making this possible.
A God of Flames and Monsters had left me happy, sad and angry.
Michael draws you into his world with such beautiful words that one can't help but be drawn into the story.
Based on mythology, the novel takes you onto a journey which leaves you rooting for the hero, Orion. He went through a lot of difficulties and came full circle. Obsidian was the villain but also has an interesting back story which I did not see coming. Eric is a great character who comes in gun blazing or in this case, sword swinging.
Michael's books are never what you expect and often have an ending that leaves you extremely sad or extremely happy. I absolutely love his writing and can't wait for more.
AGOFAM is the thrilling second installment in The Luciferian Mythos series, and it’s a standout in the fantasy/mythology genre. This time, the story focuses primarily on Orion, our golden-hearted protagonist who wears his emotions on his sleeve. To save his lover’s life, he strikes a deal with the God of the Dead—but, as expected, things take a turn for the worse. Enter Eric, a demigod with an uncertain fate. All Eric wants is to make his father proud and achieve immortality. When these two cross paths, sparks fly, but their journey is far from smooth. Lies, secrets, heartbreak, and betrayal weave a complex web that will keep you turning the pages. The question is: can they figure out what truly matters and save not only themselves but the world at large?
This book was phenomenal—dare I say even better than A Prophecy of Flowers and Lightning! The writing, pacing, and humor were top-notch, striking a perfect balance between intensity and levity. It reminded me of Michael Ferguson’s earlier work, Ephemera. While there were moments of palpable tension and anxiety, the humor sprinkled throughout offered much-needed relief. The throwbacks to A Prophecy of Flowers and Lightning and the short story The Queen of Echidna were a delightful touch, brimming with nostalgic vibes for returning fans like myself. And let’s be clear—there’s absolutely no second-book syndrome here. Not a chance! AGOFAM has easily secured its place as one of my top reads of 2024. That ending, though—I’m already counting down to book three and can’t wait to see how this epic series concludes. Huge thanks to the amazing Michael Ferguson and Krest Publishers for this fantastic PR package and book!
Book 2 in this trilogy does not disappoint. We get some new quirky heroes and some new reprehensible humans along with gods to loath. But man you stay for the Monsters. The chapters around the monster Hypoxia are stunning. From the creatures tragic backstory to the vivid descriptions and our heroes battle it is just amazing. The final third of the book is equally a combination of hail Mary's (successful ones) and just great story telling. It is a wonderful expansion on a vibrant and often harsh world.
