Amiko and Ming are twin sisters struggling to keep their heads above water. Consumed by work and financial strains, their lives are a relentless quest for survival. Deeming herself the more responsible of the duo, Amiko shoulders much of the burden while Ming goes with the flow of, God won’t put more on you than you can bear. Things change when they meet the Porter brothers. Truth, the levelheaded, business minded thinker, takes Amiko under his wing. Under his tutelage, she not only bosses up, but she also finds herself falling for her mentor in the process. Chance, the wildcard, alpha male, sets his sights on the feisty, single mom, Ming, who gives a whole new meaning to playing hard to get.
In this elevated re-release, four individuals find themselves navigating the beginning stages of relationships and business while fighting against outside sources who threaten to take their worlds by storm. Will they falter? Or prove that even in the toughest times, love can be the most unexpected form of salvation?
Now I was curious to know how old was Karter? He like them RKelly young I see. He was hired by Boss which is Truth and Chance uncle to get rid of Truth and Chance parents. Boss was a snake throughout the whole book. I don’t know how Ming got with Karter, because she was in her 20s. Ming and Miko were struggling to make ends meet. I like that Jas played matchmaker for her cousins and friends. Both sibling pair deserve the happy ending.
This was an okay and predictable read. I’m not really sure why Uncle Boss made it past the introduction chapter, but here we are! I felt like some of the sequencing was off, and the drama felt like filler at times. For example, Nyema’s presence wasn’t significant enough to warrant her being in the entire book. Truth didn’t really like her and allowed her too much leeway, which doesn’t make sense since he didn’t like her, nor did anyone else in their circle. I get it; you have to keep the villain around for a bit, but it felt unnecessary. What business would keep a manager who constantly oversteps? If you claim to love the Elites and your employees, you shouldn’t have to keep reminding the manager you put in place not to overdo it.
Next, I don’t think Ming ever redeemed herself with her sister. The author opens the novel with Amiko going all out to make sure her family is okay, while Ming, who has her own mouth to feed, is a bit of a mooch. Why does it take her sister breaking down for her to realize Amiko has too much on her plate? Ming, you’re a mother! It doesn’t matter how much you dislike working—you’ve got a kid!
Then there’s the issue with her baby daddy, which felt contrived. We get it, you’re mad he slept with your friend. But why not set up a custody agreement beforehand? I’m not one to side with a man, but girl, you’re moving weird over something that’s already happened. Karter definitely needed to ease into things, but he hadn’t seen his son in a while—come on!
Lastly, the “good hair” comments and the racially charged insults were off-putting. In this day and age, especially as a Black woman, we can do better. You can make a point with insults without making it about a character’s race; it’s tacky and reflects poorly on the author, even if it’s supposed to be the voice of an already disliked character.
Overall, while there were some interesting moments, the execution left something to be desired.
Nai, thanks for showing what can happen when jealousy and envy are behind a person. Truth And Chance grew up and got hit with the arrow of love. I love how the brothers stood strong on their word. I love how the sisters had a bond that was real. I think this crew can grow with whatever they put their minds to. I enjoyed this read.🤗🤗🤗🤗
This book was decent. Definitely giving throwback urban fiction. 2 sisters with 2 brothers. Tiara was so flaw. Some plot twists I didn’t expect. Some conversations felt so scripted and not natural. I thought the pacing of the story was pretty good until the end. Everything happened very quickly.
Well written. Not sure why some dialogue was in bold.
This was a great and satisfying read. I really enjoyed this book. I loved the way Chance and Truth were with Miko and Ming. Carter, Nyema and Uncle Boss got exactly what they deserved. 💓💓
All that time Brothers own uncle was snake and girlfriend and Tiara and Ming bd he was the one who killed there parents because his uncle was jealous so sad...
Unfortunately, there was the bare minimum of romance between Truth and Amiko even though they were supposed to be the main characters. Chance and Ming did their thing though. It was interesting enough.
This book was so good. Karter and Boss were some slimy jealous dudes and they got what they deserved. I felt a little bad for Nyema and Tiara but again you reap what you sow. I’m happy Miko and Ming got their HEA with Truth and Chance.
This was definitely a great read ! I just hate people who are disloyal, filled with greed all for the love of money !! As for the sisters I’m glad they are with some real Kings.. As for everyone else they got what they deserved!!
Babyyy when I say this was a good a** book I loved the sister relationship they had with each other I just love how they both found love Ming and Amiko. They both had a right life after there mom past. Then you got Truth and chance I just love these brothers.10/10 😘😘
Omg! This was such a good read! Ming was about to have to see me lol. Truth came in and elevated Amiko to the highest extent! Loved reading about these two couples.
4.5🥰 This was my first time reading a book from this author. I really enjoyed myself. This book really kept me invested. Overall really a good book. I cannot wait to read more from this author.
I enjoyed Amiko and Ming characters. Struggling and all, the love and unity remained strong. Amiko was strong chileeeeee because come on Ming lol. Jas playing matchmaker was so sweet. How many friends would really put you on…..especially when it’s family.. The Porter brothers were amazing men. Truth and Amiko were the power couple. Chance was the wildcard, but Ming and Case lived rent free in that man’s heart. I enjoyed this read and the ending was beautiful.
