The man who broke the world has risen from the pages of history… and Keiran is the only one who can stop him.

With the awakening of the lich lord Ammun Nescect, Keiran must contend with his greatest challenge yet. His former apprentice, an archmage in his own right, stands between Keiran and his goals of tearing down the tower rooted in the world core itself.

While Ammun remains trapped, unable to leave the world’s one and only source of mana, Keiran prepares for the battle. But he isn’t the only one who’s been preparing, and if Ammun’s machinations come to fruition, nowhere will be safe from the lich’s reach.

Keiran must act quickly, for he knows that if Ammun frees himself from his prison, the outcome of their next meeting has inevitable, and fatal, implications for him.

Can he regain enough of his lost power to face an immortal lich in open battle?

A reincarnated archmage's journey to the peak – perfect for fans of The Beginning After the End, Imperial Wizard, and Birth of the Demonic Sword.

This was a solid continuation of this series. It continues to deliver in much the same manner as it has before and keeps the story moving forward at a steady pace. The only reason for a loss of a star in this review is that nothing jumps out at me here as being exceptional. It does more than enough to be interesting, but at the same time it kind of feels like it is going through the motions at this point, as it has settled into a rhythm.

To be clear, that's not necessarily a bad thing. If it keeps delivering books of this quality, I'll be a happy reader of this series for as long as there are more books to be read. I'm just saying it's missing that last element that would elevate it to 5-star material.

If this book was a cake, it would be like a perfectly serviceable sponge cake you bought from a supermarket. It's a reliably tasty flavour that's never disappointing but also not anything that wows you. It is missing that last ingredient that elevates it to an artisan cake that would stand out in your mind as being something spectacular. Maybe that ingredient could be the development of new and interesting magic as Keiran pushes himself past his comfort zone. Maybe it could be a more compelling character arc for the protagonist. Maybe it could be better relationship development between the protagonist and his family.

Whatever the case, right now, this is a perfectly serviceable cake that I'll happily keep on the grocery list as a reliably tasty treat. However, with just a little bit extra, it could become that kind of cake that you save for special occasions and can only purchase from talented bakers for a small fortune.

"The Broken Night: A Captivating Continuation of Keiran's Journey in D.E. Sherman's Epic Fantasy.

D.E. Sherman's "The Broken Night," the fourth installment in the Keiran The Eternal Mage series, is nothing short of a masterclass in progression fantasy. From the very first page, Sherman immerses readers in a richly woven tapestry of magic, intrigue, and character development that keeps you on the edge of your seat.

In this latest adventure, we witness Keiran's growth as both a mage and a person, grappling with the weight of his responsibilities and the consequences of his choices. The stakes are higher than ever as old foes re-emerge and new threats loom on the horizon. Sherman expertly balances action-packed sequences with poignant moments of introspection, allowing readers to connect deeply with Keiran's struggles and triumphs.

The world-building continues to impress, with intricate details that bring the setting to life. Sherman's ability to craft unique magical systems and diverse cultures adds depth to the narrative, making it a joy to explore every corner of this fantastical realm.

Overall, "The Broken Night" is an exhilarating read that captivates from beginning to end. D.E. Sherman has once again proven his prowess as a storyteller, leaving fans eagerly anticipating what lies ahead for Keiran and his companions. If you're a fan of progression fantasy, this series is a must-read that will leave you spellbound!

While the author is a competent writer, I really dislike how he has his protag struggling.
I understand a lot of people get less enjoyment if they don't see someone struggle hard for what they want, but that isn't me.
I just want competent stories with OP protags doing whatever they set out to do.

This book is like some block buster explosions movie. The hero just finished doing X and is barely on his feet, then a hundred more bad guys turn up to mess him up. But he fights , struggles and prevails. I don't watch movies anymore because of this trope, and I sure don't appreciate it happening over and over again in a single book.

Will read the sequel, but not anytime soon.

I really really enjoyed this book. It had everything I like, an OP MC, a thorough magic system, believable constraints, all while keeping it interesting, no mean feat for someone who is as powerful as Kieran. His intelligence was extraordinarily believable, and I often felt myself amused by the surprising ways he clawed himself back to victory. Maybe it’s just because I’m tired, but I find this book worthy of a 5/5. I couldn’t point to anything and say that was a flaw, plus I was amused and the story was good. I am pleased. It also had an extremely satisfying ending, which I appreciated, while still having the opportunity for further interesting stories.

Geeks with power

This series is if a small bit long winded on detailed magic, really entertaining. However this 4th book has a little undercover humor. Ammun, the bad guy, is equivalent to the persistent but dull Coyote. Where Kieran most definitely is the clever Roadrunner whose goal is to frustrate and subvert any possible advantages for Coyote. The adversarial interplay is intense and the fight engages arenas and species that are incredibly challenging. I look forward to the next book.

still engaging

I like the MC and the first person perspective. World building is good and the antagonists have grown in power to challenge the MC. The touches of humor and family dynamics add to the story instead of being a cliched trope. A lot of these new LitProg authors suffer from poor editing (typos, missed words, extra words) and encountering those tends to pull me out of the story. This book only has a couple of those instances.

long winded, kind of pointless

The MC doesn’t seem to develop. He is overpowered and has only two weaknesses. Time and mana. His archenemy doesn’t kill him when he has the chance. The plot kind off works but only if you squint really hard and ignore a lot of things.

The world building is nonexistent. No one eats food. The author never describes clothes. Towns sound like poorly drawn Anime sets. Blocky building set in perfect rows with no shading.

can’t For the next book

This book was a great addition to the series. The fights in this are absolutely amazing. The book is nonstop action and Kieran even makes a friend. The ending was a cliffhanger, and I can’t wait for the next book at the same time. It was believable and unexpected and a great ending to this great book. Good job, DE Sherman, none of the books in the series so far I’ve disappointed and I am a fan.

It’s difficult to get too involved with these because Kieran’s a cold fish who doesn’t really grow in any way other than magically. Occasionally he thinks, “Maybe people aren’t so bad” but he always gets bored of them or treats them like crap just because he can. The overall idea hasn’t quite run out of steam yet but it’s definitely slowing down.

This series has a lot of special sauce to it, but the one thnig that would make it better is if the MC would not have pages and pages and pages of introspection and highlighting the 7129301903 different ways he could have handled any given situation when he was at the height of his power.

That being said, I can't wait for book 5 to see how the story ends!

It is a disappointing "beginning of the end" for a promising series. Thankfully it is somewhat consistent with its powerscaling, the big bad setup in book 3 is of such a magnitude that it requires this and the final book to deal with, while boring is consistent with what the series have been building up.

Awesome Stuff

This story of a Archmage who creates a spell that allows him to keep his memory after he’s reincarnated was a fascinating fantastic read that I really enjoyed reading.

pretty good

Another enjoyable read. A few parts dragged as the author went into a bit too much detail about preparations for battle or this or that magical procedure. Also the MC seems pretty weak given his stage of advancement and knowledge. He can’t even defeat a golem.

Refreshing

For anyone who likes detailed magic systems and a story about an MC who already is strong and trying to regain lost power, this is the series for you. Entertaining and simple. No complaints here.

Worth the read

The 4th book in the series hasn't dissappointed in the slightest. I assume youve read books 1 through 3 at this point, and i'd recommend you keep on reading. It paces well, and has good character development!

I liked this book. However, to be honest, I enjoyed the third book better. I felt that this one had too much filler. With that said. I can't wait to read the fifth and final book. I want to know what happens, and I hope there's more of the sibling relationship as there was in book 3

The stakes felt a little lower now with access to mana but enjoyed it. Not sure where it will go.

Tricky tricky

The strategy and preparation on both sides by the archmages along with the cunning make for an exciting read. Lots of high level duels
