Ten years sober, Megan Ingles has dedicated her life to helping others conquer their addictions, hoping to atone for her past. But when she receives a series of menacing notes, it becomes clear that someone hasn't forgotten—or forgiven—her role in the tragic death of Oliver Taylor, her former friend and the brother of police officer Jax Taylor.
Jax blames Megan for his brother's death. When she’s viciously assaulted, he’s forced to consider she might’ve been telling the truth all along. Despite their fraught past, Jax is determined to protect Megan, even as his family pressures him to stay away.
As they work together to uncover who is behind the threats, old secrets come to light, and long-standing animosities flare up. The closer Jax gets to the truth, the more he realizes that his feelings for Megan are anything but simple. As the line between duty and desire blurs, Jax must decide if he can trust Megan—and if he's willing to risk everything to save her.
In a town filled with dangerous lies, only the truth can set them free. But will Megan and Jax find it before it's too late?
Dangerous Lies is the second novel in the thrilling Badge of Honor romantic suspense series, but each book can be read as a standalone. Expect thrilling action, a gripping mystery, and tender romance. If you enjoy stories of resilience and faith in the face of danger, you won’t want to miss this series!
Lynn Shannon is a Publishers Weekly bestselling author of inspirational romantic suspense.
After moving from Texas to Greece, Lynn turned her passion for reading into a love of writing. She lives with her husband, two children, an extremely spoiled dog, and a pair of chirpy lovebirds. Experiencing life in a new country has introduced her to delicious foods—like Yemista and Kourabiedes—which now share a place on her favorites list alongside pecans and Blue Bell ice cream. She also never passes up coffee, chocolate, or the chance to watch cute animal videos.
This story is a real page-turner, with just the right mix of romance, mystery, and suspense!
Ten years ago, Oliver was killed in an accident. Megan was with him in the car when it happened, and ever since, the town has blamed her, including Oliver’s brother, Jax. Now, Jax wants to reopen the case, which brings Megan back into the spotlight. But it seems someone from the past wants her quiet. Megan’s new life as a therapist is turned upside down as she fights for her life. To make things worse, the one person who hasn’t forgiven her, Jax, is the one trying to protect her. But despite his anger, Jax knows he has to keep her safe and figure out if the person after her has something to do with solving Oliver’s death.
What Megan and Jax don’t expect is how the danger will grow, putting both their lives at risk. And as they spend more time together, they start to realize their hearts are at risk as well. The worst day of their lives was losing Oliver, and the case was never solved. Megan is still blamed for his death. Can they figure out who really killed him? Will everyone finally see Megan as innocent? And, most importantly, can Jax ever forgive her?
This book is the perfect mix of enemies becoming more than that, forced proximity, and a murderer hiding in the shadows. I couldn’t put it down and finished it in a single day! I can’t wait for Duncan’s story, even if I have to wait until next year. It will definitely be worth it. I’d give this story 4.5 stars, rounded up to 5!
Dangerous Lies was such a good book! It was enemies-to-lovers done so well, and I was hooked from page one. Megan has been harboring guilt for an accident that happened 10 years ago, an accident that took the life of Jax's brother. Now, Jax, as a police detective, has reopened his brother's case as well as old wounds of the people involved, especially of Megan and his family. It's a race against the clock to keep Megan safe from the crazed killer who's out for revenge. I loved the story and the faith intermixed without cramming it down your throat. The emotions were so well-written and made me feel with both Jax and Megan. The heartache, the loss, the fear, and then, finally, the change of heart in how they viewed each othet-- the struggle to have deeper feelings for the other but also knowing it couldn't go anywhere, as Jax's family still blamed Megan for their son's death. I greatly appreciated the lack of swear words, as with all Lynn Shannon books, and loved every moment of the romance with kisses only. The suspense was heart-pounding, at times, but never too much. I loved how you weren't quite sure who the killer was until it hits you in the face with a big, "Duh! Of course, it was!" This is a book I'd feel comfortable recommending to anyone.
Dangerous Lies was a riveting suspense story as Jax reopens his brother Oliver's case 10 years later. Megan, who returns after having left town and people's accusations of causing Oliver's death, receives threatening notes. Jax has a hard time believing Megan's innocence until he rescues her from an attack. Amidst the growing attacks, developing feelings, and finding the killer, this story involves misplaced blame, addition, sobriety, and testing of family ties. The storyline hooked me from the beginning. Can't wait to read the next installment.
Dangerous Lies hooked me from the first page and I got very little done until I finished it - it was too good to put down! The suspense is riveting, the emotion is palpable, and the tender romance is touching. I loved Megan and Jax’s story as they struggled with past regrets, family issues, misplaced blame, and moving forward. I eagerly await more stories in this series.
After getting clean, Megan dropped all her old friends and started fresh. But when Oliver called desperate for help, she couldn't refuse. Unfortunately, after she picks him up, they're run off the road and he's killed. Worse, everyone in town, especially Oliver's family, blames her for the accident and Oliver's death, to the point where she left town. When her grandparents need help, Megan knows it's time to come back - but she didn't expect the threatening emails. Nor that Oliver's brother Jax would reopen Oliver's case in an attempt to pin it on her again - or even that he'd also be the one she reported the threats to. Jax is convinced that Megan is guilty, but when she's threatened and he's forced to spend time with her following up, he starts to have doubts. As things escalate, it soon becomes clear that there's definitely someone gunning for her. But is it someone convinced of her guilt, or someone desperate to get her out of the way for another reason?
This kept me on the edge of my seat throughout, with plenty of action but also time for Jax and Megan to get to know each other, not to mention trying to piece together what's going on, and what happened with Oliver. The mystery kept me guessing but came together beautifully at the end, and I also enjoyed watching attitudes towards Megan (and Jax, from Megan's side) gradually change. Of course, the support from Noah throughout based on Megan's character rather than knee-jerk reactions was best of all, but is also uncommon. I admit to being glad not to have had scenes from the killer's POV, because I don't think I'd want to be in their head in this case. The faith thread is done well, and I appreciated Megan's views shining a light on some of the attitude problems of others. All in all, a good read with a great mix of suspense and romance. Looking forward to the next book in the series!.

*I read an early copy from the author. This does not affect my review and these thoughts are my own. This review is voluntary.*
Jax and Megan get off to a rocky start in this addition to Lynn Shannon's Badge of Honor series. They shared a troubled past and family tragedy. For Jax it really was family. For Megan, it was her best-friend in the world. Now, he's her only hope. Yet, will he be able to overcome his family's long held grudge in time to realize the truth?
This story has a lot of moving pieces, and fits well with Lynn Shannon's brand of romantic suspense. Jax and Megan were both interesting characters. I enjoyed reading their story, and loved seeing Tucker and some of the Special Forces from her Triumph Over Adversity series pop in at times.
The story was great, and there were a lot of things I enjoyed, but at times I felt perhaps there were too many moving pieces, or perhaps they moved slightly too fast? It seemed to me that at times their was so much action that the relationships and the characters' healing journey was a little rushed or glossed over? I mean, Megan had done most of her healing before the story picks up, but Jax and his family were also struggling. We do see some sweet moments, and there is definitely some personally grown and healing along the way, but there's also a few scenes that seem to be non-stop action. I love a good action story, but in a romantic suspense I love that balance of both when possible, and didn't quite find it here. Still, this was a fun story and worth the read.
Lynn Shannon weaves a tale full of intrigue and suspense that has you captivated from page 1! Megan, 10 years sober, has worked hard to create a new life for herself and has returned to her hometown as a counselor - helping others piece together their broken lives. She begins to receive threatening notes that soon escalate but she's at a loss as to who's behind them. The tragic death of Oliver Taylor, when she was living a different life all those years ago, is something the locals have never forgotten. Jax Taylor, now a cop, is the hardened brother of Oliver, who blames Megan for his brother's death. When she is assaulted, Jax suddenly is in charge of her protection. But can the two work through their differences, the animosity of a stalker, townspeople's gossip - all to uncover the dangerous deception that lurks in their hometown? I was anxiously awaiting Book 2 in the Badge of Honor series, and it was worth the wait!! Grab a copy today and be ready for some serious suspense!.

This is the second book in this wonderful series though each book is a totally self contained read but Lynn's writing is so good do yourself a favour and read all her books
10 years earlier the entire town blamed Megan Ingles for the death of her friend Oliver Taylor she has been sober for that entire ten years and works with people in their addictions her way of paying back Now she has to return home to help her grandparents but the whole town still hates her and she is soon receiving death threats When they become more than threats Jax Taylor the brother of Oliver and now a police officer has to wonder if she has been telling the truth all along soon he is told to protect her by his boss and they start to work together to get to the bottom of not only who is threatening her but also what happened the night of his brothers death all while fighting the feelings that are growing between them Can they solve both crimes and can they have a future You will have to read to see
This was book 2 of the Badge of Honor series. I have not read book 1 but based on the sneak peak of book 3 it sounds like while all of the stories are connected by the people in them, each focuses on one police officer. I think k it would probably be best to read them in order but I didn’t feel like I missed anything by not reading book 1. I am going to go back and read it however, because book 2 was great!!
All of the characters were incredible and the over-arching theme of the book was forgiveness. I was surprised that this was a faith based thriller but it was woven into the storyline in such a great way. Most of the characters had to overcome their anger, guilt, and bias to fully accept the reality of what had caused their world to come crashing down. More importantly, they had to learn how to open their hearts and minds, and learn to forgive.
Book 3 is not about Wesley but I think he would be a GREAT character to base a book off of in the future!!!
Book two from this series held my attention from start to finish, I felt for Megan, what she had been through, what she was currently going through and the guilt and blame she still felt. I felt for Jax and his family too, they had been through a lot and it was sad to see how this was still impacting them individually and as a family. I liked seeing Jax work things out, reevaluate and try to find a balance between what his heart wanted and being respectful to his family. I enjoyed the twist and turns, the love, compassion, acceptance, support and faith in this, and the moment when things started to click for me.

This is another wonderful romantic suspense book full of mystery, and danger with a side of romance. Megan Ingles has dedicated her life to helping others overcome their addictions because she had the experience in overcoming her own vices. She has returned to town in order to help her grandparents, but someone in town does not want her around. Apparently they continue to blame her for the death of her friend. Jax Taylor blames Megan for the death of his brother. He does not believe for a minute that she is being threatened until he finds her being running while being shot at. He did not expect to be assigned to protect her until the suspect was caught. Highly recommend this book for your reading pleasure.
This was a great book. I really saw how both characters had to battle their conceptions of what was going on now and in the past, and work through to a happier future.
Megan battling addiction and blamed for the death of a police officer brother of detective Jax when trouble comes for her.
The plot was biting and sharp with great suspense and drama through out. Megan and Jax had to work at what they were meant to be, overcoming lies and biases to find a happiness together.
Very well written with a fantastic plot and really likable characters that worked very well together. So good!.

Something has to give, strong feeling involving the life of Oliver
Megan has spend 10 years trying to remember just what happened to her friend, Oliver. Jax has spend 10 years hating the woman he felt killed his brother Oliver. Now they must join together to catch a dangerous killer. I love how Lynn goes into writing a story so vivid you can feel the fear & hope of her characters. You feel Jax and his family raw grieving pain and the struggle of Megan trying to remember just what happened that night. She isn't the woman she was now she has the strength and courage to find a killers before it kills her.
Megan was accused of killing her best friend. The case was closed because there was not enough evidence. Jax reopened his brother’s case when Megan went back to town, which put Megan in danger when someone tried to kill her. This book was a total roller coaster; never a dull moment and impossible to stop reading it. I liked how Jax started to really see Megan and that everything he knew about her was not real. She is a compassionate woman who thrives in helping others. I look forward to reading the next one. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Dangerous Lies grabbed me from the start, making it difficult to put down! There was lots of suspense and intrigue as Megan’s and Jax‘s story unfolded. Mistakes from the past lead to misunderstandings and regrets. Ten years earlier, Jax’s brother was killed in a car accident with Megan in the driver’s seat. The entire town, including Jax and his family, blamed her for his death. Against his better judgment, Jax steps in to protect Megan after someone tries to kill her. The adrenaline kept going throughout the entire book! I cannot wait for the next book in the series!
I really enjoyed this book and read it in two days. A good suspense novel - wholesome, it didn’t need the explicit sex scenes so many books have these days. Loved the characters of Jax and Megan. They both showed love and strength . She completely turned her life around. Their connection and love is stronger than past grief and hurt. This book had suspense, love, forgiveness, angst. It kept you guessing to the end.

Loved it: I really enjoyed this Christian romantic suspense novel. Whilst part of a series with interconnecting characters, it can nevertheless be read as a standalone. I quickly fell in love with both Jax and Megan and really enjoyed witnessing them navigate their challenges. I thought the themes of revenge and reconciliation were handled well. All in all, another fabulous addition to the series and now I can't wait for the next book in the series. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Idk if I’ve ever been so mad/disliked a character more. He has been nothing short of hateful & hostile to Megan and even the day before accused her of sending herself the threats, but he gives his brother the benefit of the doubt & wants her help clearing him?! Insanity. He & his family were so unlikable!
I did wind up like Jax by the end of the book, but I’m still disappointed in him and the way he and his family - the entire town, really - treated her. But it was a good story, well-written & captivating.
Can be read as a standalone however it is part of an interconnected series with overlapping characters. A horrific series of events changed their lives years ago. When she returns to town and he reopens his brother's case things get heated followed by dangerous. Will they get answers? What really happened back then? Is closure possible?.

I honestly love this author’s writing and her books never miss. You can find lots of drama, suspense, mystery and you can forget romance in this story. A definite page turner that you do not want to put down. Megan and Jax’s story is very much worth reading and I enjoyed the faith intertwined in the storyline of forgiveness and grace between grieving families! Def recommend!
Megan starts receiving threatening emails and when she turns to the police for help Jax is the officer assigned to her case. Jax's brother died in an accident ten years earlier and Jax has always believed, because she was driving, that Megan was responsible for his death. She claimed she was forced off the road, if that's true then who did it and who is sending the emails. I enjoyed this book because there is danger, suspense, romance and very interesting characters.
blame for the death of a friend doesn't equal responsibility, as Megan discovers.
Questions of relative guilt or innocence lead into survivors guilt, and a number of trauma survivors copjng with their gullts and working to deal with them.
as pains and sorrows and fragile hearts and minds are exploited, possibilities for healing are also explored.
faith filled and heart testing action, suspense and romance.
I was originally going to rate this book 4 stars because I absolutely loved Jax and Megan and how it started. The crime aspect was interesting and the backstory set the stage perfectly for our main couple.
But, this book got a a bit repetitive and for being shorter, the love felt a bit rushed. I think I would have liked to see a slower burn and a bit more happening outside of just solving the mystery.
Really, really, really good. Megan is ‘being threatened and now she turned to the local law. only to fined they don’t believe her.
As the threats increased ,Megan turned to local law only to find they don’t believe her. She had been afraid they wouldn’t but she had changed since the last time she had anything to do with them. She was drug free and had gotten a degree to become a councilor and help people like she was ten years ago.
Lynn brings us another romantic suspense that captures your mind & heart. Thrilling suspense that has you on edge while love, pain, grief & faith tug your heart. Found myself absolutely immersed wanting to finish to get to the bottom of the suspense & hopeful for a new beginning for the couple. Fantastic read!
This is the second book in the Badge of Honor Series. Each story can be read as a stand alone story. I love the drama and suspense and really like these law enforcement stories.
After ten years the community and family still believe she was the cause of Oliver's death. Megan has cleaned up her life and returned to her hometown to be there for her elderly grandparents. Whe she starts to get threatening emails, she goes to the police. The case for Oliver's death as been reopened and the police want her to go over her story again. One of them is Jax Taylor, Oliver's older brother. He still blames Megan for the death of his brother.
When someone hides in Megan's car and tries to kill her, Jax finds her abandoned car and hears her screams. He helps her escape the killer and he begins to believe Megan's story about how his brother died. When the threats continue the police Chief will assign Jax to guard Megan.

As Jax begins to have feelings for Megan, he will have to face his family who still blames her for Oliver's death.

This book has all the things I enjoy in a book. It has great true-to-life characters (they aren't perfect), lots of suspense with twists, some crime, and a nice romance. I enjoy the way the Word of God is lightly woven into the story. The story kept me engaged from beginning to the happy ending. Very entertaining!
Dangerous Lies is a great romantic suspense book with an enemies to more trope which throws in family drama as well. I like the way Jax had to look past his feelings and accept facts concerning his bother’s death. The author does a great job of leading us through the story using several suspects, keeping us guessing. If you like to figure out who the bad guy is, this is the book for you.
Megan has been sober for ten years and works hard to help others as well. She starts getting threatening notes and is assaulted. Jax blames Megan for his brother's death. But things may not be true. They will work too find the truth but will they make it together.

This is a fast paced, riveting story that kept me awake late into the night. Tightly written, full of twists and nonstop action. This novel compassionately deals with substance abuse, loss and forgiveness. With faith and a beautiful romance of enemies to lovers, this story rocks! Can’t wait to indulge in more books by this amazing author!
