Little Toby, a newly hatched sea turtle, must make his way to the ocean, but many obstacles lie in his way: giant sand dunes, mischief crabs, too friendly birdies, and hungry crocs! Will Toby overcome these obstacles and follow his heartsong all the way to the ocean?!
In TOBY, Nyikos crafts a delightful and heartwarming tale that will capture the hearts and imaginations of little readers. With lyrical, sing-songy rhyming lines, Toby the sea turtle's journey from egg to ocean is a super fun and sweet one. Little readers will love joining Toby on his grand adventure and those pesky crabs, crocs, birdies, and sand dunes offer readers the perfect amount of exciting, fun frights and gasp-worthy moments.

Toby is a children's picturebook written by Stacy Nyikos and illustrated by Shawn Sisneros. It is currently scheduled for release on July 15 2014. Birds, and crabs, and crocodiles stand between Toby and his new ocean home. Can he out-slip, out-slide,and otherwise outsmart them? Just jump in to find out!
Toby is bright, fun, and teaches young readers about how newly hatched turtles make their way to the relative safety of the ocean. While the plucky Toby faces many dangers on his way to the water, and there is tension in the story, there is not a frightening feel to the story. Readers will root for Toby and enjoy both the rhythm and flow of the text. the illustrations pair pretty much perfectly with the story, imparting extra bits of information and some fun on each page.
I would recommend Toby for reading one on one with young readers, in classroom or storytime settings, and for interested readers to explore on their own. the story will speak particularly to animal and adventure fans, but could also be used as a discussion starter about nature, turtles, young animals, the environment, and more.

For anyone who's been fascinated with the amazing journey that cute little sea turtles have to take when they hatch to make it to the ocean, TOBY is perfect. I admit that while reading the book, it found a special place in my heart. We watched the sea turtles be released into the ocean a couple years back at Padre Island National Seashore, and I couldn't help but think of those darling little turtles as I read TOBY. It's fun. It's cute. What more could you want?

I wrote this one so I'm kinds partial to it, especially since it was inspired by a chance encounter I had at our local aquarium with their rescue turtles. Their story and their curious but courageous personalities hooked me. I had to learn more about sea turtles...chew on a million pencils...and write a story.

I got this book yesterday from BookCon in NYC. I got to meet Stacy who was very sweet. I enjoyed this book because I love animals. The pictures were nicely done.It's a great book to teach children the cycle of baby turtles and the obstacles they have to overcome before heading to there real home in the ocean. Thanks for the extra info about turtles.

A fun little book for young kids. Good rhyming scheme, and a touch of hidden stranger danger awareness :)
