The Blood Crown Calls

Rate this book
Once upon a time, a young princess lived in a castle upon a hill, her hair the color of a red rose petal. She was set to rule the four kingdoms of Tesni, the Blood Crown already calling her name.

But one night, a neighboring kingdom came to her home and burned it, and everyone within, to the ground. It lay in ashes around her, the remains blowing about in the wind.

With the magic still simmering in her blood, she conjured two beings from the ashes and embers, who burned just as hot as the flames which created them. They would stay by her side, grow with her, learn with her, plan vengeance with her.

As she begins to call herself Queen, those in other kingdoms deemed to vicious, too bold, too strange, will flock to her. She will grow her kingdom, she will build her family, and she will gain the strongest of armies.

For the crown, it calls to her, and she will answer its call in blood.

Holy poop nuggets
I was so deeply addicted to this book. It’s fantasy, magic, Alice in wonderland, smutty, why choose magnificence. MM. FF. MF. MFM. MFMF. It just has all the possibilities. Three sums. Group sex. Bondage. Toys. Suspension. All the smut.
Trigger warnings.
Torture.
Unaliving.
Kidnapping.
Gore.
I love the characters so much. They are all unique. The story is also unique, it’s not a retelling but has the vibes and you can definitely see the parallels and inspiration. I just love it. The twists were very well executed and slapped me in the face, the way a real twist does.

I didn't look too closely at the description but I was deliciously surprised. I was drawn in from the beginning and the characters are relatable in a way that I didn't necessarily expect.
If you're looking for spice, go in with an open mind and enjoy all the fun this will offer you!

I've always been a sucker for a new spine on a classic story--bonus points if it's told from the proclaimed villain's perspective. TBCC is full of the beautiful story-telling that I love and kicked up a notch with multi-POV and ramped up spice. She told me that I would get in my feels with this one, and like a silly goose I believed her.

I was laughing, crying, swearing, gasping, blushing, and having even falling into some giggle fits. I was nervous that with so many main characters telling the story, they would have become lost, but each one is able to stand on their own in a marvelous way.

I would definitely recommend being mindful of content and trigger warnings before embarking on this Wonderland retelling.

✨ The Blood Crown Calls by Amber Winslow ✨
As a kid I loved reading and listening to all the child stories just as much as the next kid. Beauty and the Beast is still one of my favorite ones and believe it not Alice in Wonderland is one of my least favorite ones. Not sure if it's all the chaos around the story. I honestly do not know. HOWEVER as an adult and now a reader I have truly enjoyed reading the retelling stories and this one was one of those. This is my second read from Amber. I first came across of writing when she released She, A Goddess Forgotten and she broke my heart for part of the story and I loved it.

Color me impressed when I saw how she upped her spice level with this one! One thing I also noticed with this Why Choose was that relationships were also built outside of the main relationship with Alizarin and how very supportive she was to make sure everyone had their happiness.

This was such an interesting book! An Alice in Wonderland type book but told from the Red Queen's side.

All the characters are so unique and interesting to follow. We have a multi POV following, essentially everyone! It's also a very spicy book.

In this book, we start by following Alizarin, our Red Queen. With her group Hop, Maddox, and the twins Torr and Tyrr. Alizarin is searching for her crown that was stolen from her when she was younger. When her family was killed by a neighbor kingdom, and burned till nothing was left but ash.

Alizarin and her group kidnap another princess who they believe will help them get her crown back. So we follow them all on a quest of vengeance for anyone who wronged them and to gain their queens crown back.

In this book, we get to follow this entire group as well as our new kidnapped princess. We see how everyone is so bonded and loving to each other. The banter between the twins is fun to see as they go between internal monolog and external. Seeing each care for the other so much and that they would burn the world for eachother.

Now, I will warn you to look at the TWs of this book before venturing into it! But it was a good read. If you like magic, spice, and Alice in Wonderland, I would suggest this book to you!!

I would like to thank Amber for gifting me this ARC in exchange for my honest review!

I'm not typically into books with the why choose trope but this?? This is perfection. This is good. This is yummy. This is bark bark awooga. I honestly think the less I know about a book going into it, the more I like it because WOW I have learned some highly interesting things about myself that I think we will just ignore for now. A lovely amount of spice and by lovely I mean I'm frothing at the mouth like a rabid dog thank you very much

This book blew me away!
A twisted and naughty Alice in wonderland. With a plot easier to follow. In my opinion anyways.
This is the first book I’ve read with certain activities in it and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It didn’t seem rushed or wrong.
And the plot twist…. Got me good! It’s so so so good!
Spicy with a good plot/story line.
Absolutely recommend! Especially if you like twisted retellings of known stories.

It took me a bit to figure out why this book just didn’t do it for me. I probably should have quit it when I found a typo on the back cover and noticed the AI cover art.

Overall, not a bad idea. Execution was lacking, and I could not for the life of me figure out why things were happening in this book. I think you lose a lot of the plot when you have 8 different POV’s.

Don’t read in public, and have a rabbit in your bedside table. Pun definitely intended. What a great time.
