I wanted to ruin her.
Ruin the girl who could dissect me with a single look.

I wanted to break her.
Break the girl who burned like her namesake.

I wanted to wreck her.
Wreck the girl who made me question everything.

But I didn't. I couldn't.

Instead, I've been
Liberated.

***4 "Wrecked!!!" stars***

"How many times are you told as a child not to play with fire? Not to get too close?"

After reading "Wrecked" I was craving a larger version with Rafe's POV in it and A.J. Wolf made my wish come true and I couldn't be more happy about it!!!
Finally, we managed to get into Rafe's head cause I really needed his point of view...
I really liked this version and if you haven't read Wrecked yet, don't you worry just go for Liberated since the author had kept many chapters from Ember's POV with added bonus chapters from Rafe's side!!!

"Love is conditional. It's not real.
Love manipulates and rejects.
Love hurts.
Love doesn't exist. Not here."

Ember wasn't in a good place and when she was at her lowest, a man became her savior. An act of kindless or he has other motives???
The only sure thing is that Ember fell for Rafe and his kindness, but Rafe turned out to be the one out to destroy her and not save her without her to pay the price... Rafe is bound to wreck her heart and soul!!!

"I've stupidly let myself fall for a man that doesn't exist. One that never existed."

Well, I can't tell you more about this story.
It personally grabbed me from the very first page and butterflies had started to fly inside my stomach from the agony...
I loved these two characters...
Ember was sweet and kind, but very trustworthy...
Rafe was enigmatic and difficult to read, but he intrigued me very much... His behavior wasn't always the best and his motives were shady, but there was hope for him after all!!!
These two were the perfect fit in a very unperfect match...

"Who knew that the same person who could light up my fucking world would be the one to bring me the most pain?"

Yes, I needed their full story...
I needed more details...
Yes, I loved Wrecked very much, but I enjoyed the full version as much as I did the shorter!!!
Rafe and Ember were beautifully wrecked and I loved their journey very much!!!

"When I love, I love hard. But that also means that when I break, I break even harder."

**I received an ARC for the exchange of an honest review.**

Tropes: dubcon, billionaire, stalking, second chance, humiliation

This is my first from this author.

To my understanding this was a full book based on the novella, Wrecked which I did not read but was able to finish it so that is good.

It’s rare to read male POV in any book and this book had his so I liked that. I liked the short chapters too because I was able to read it quickly without feeling like the book was getting draggy. I liked Ember, her name has fire to it and she also had fire to herself by making Rafe work for it instead of just falling for him quickly. Rafe was a little annoying at times but I was able to close one eye and read.

I gave this 3 stars because when I reached the epilogue the story felt incomplete like it didn’t quite wrap up properly. Some chapters seemed to be too fast that I couldn’t get to savour their journey as much.

The worst fraud perpetrated on a nation of 30-something wine moms is that the first guy to become criminally obsessed with them could be a super-smexy billionaire who solves more of their problems than he creates. See this guy? This is what you get. Not this. And even if you did, that wouldn't make it okay.

(loud, irritated sigh) So, Liberated by A.J. Wolf.

Our "hero" is Rafe, son of an asshole who thinks everyone's out to get his money. Our heroine is Ember, daughter of poors who can rarely afford to feed herself. Her very first stroke of luck comes when Rafe buys her a gas station sandwich, making this the first romance in history to be facilitated by a gas station sandwich. Hot.

Ember makes eye contact with Rafe. It's a lot.

It feels as if she's looking inside of me, peering past my walls to see me. It's unnerving. Irritating. Confusing. Enraging. How dare this woman, this stranger, look at me like that? How dare she stand there and tempt me with her scent, her lips, her eyes. Who does she think she is?

Well, don't take it personally, Rafe. I can see inside of you too.

He decides to "wreck" her for this. To be clear, "this" means his psychotic interpretation of what her eye contact meant. I hope he has 20/20 vision, or else every optometrist in the state needs to upgrade their security systems. He stalks Ember to the diner where she works and offers her a ride home, which she takes. I'd yell at her, but even if she thought she'd end up strewn across several miles of interstate, what does she have to lose? More gas station sandwiches?

She giggles that his Bugatti La Voiture Noire "sounds really expensive." Hey, Rafe, didn't you say you were sick of people coming at you for your money? Isn't that line straight out of The Complete Idiot's Guide to Gold Digging? Not that he's unwilling to use it to get closer to her, because not long after that innocent drive home, he's purchased the diner, her shitty apartment building, and even shares in her utility company. Good God almighty, what's next? Will you buy the chain of gas stations in case she dines there again?

Oh, and he's jerking off to her a lot. Glad you confirmed, Rafe. You had me wondering.

He decides he's no longer interested in wrecking her. Now he "wants nothing more than to make her absolutely indebted to me in every single way possible." Go on. Explain to me how there's a difference.

Ember is well aware that he's started bankrolling her lifestyle, because her rent and bills are up to date and then some. She's also gotten used to getting rides home from him nearly every night. This is making her all heart-fluttery, so when he invites her to accompany him to the Hamptons, her first worry is that she'll miss work. Not that a complete stranger with unlimited resources, who's just revealed himself as a flight risk, is love bombing her at a speed that would make Joe Goldberg tell him to slow his roll.

The book wants us to believe this girl is smart enough to get a university scholarship. And she might be, if you count DeVry as a university. But if there were a standardized test for survival skills, all the prep courses in the world couldn't save her from bottoming out.

You have to admire the man's powers of persuasion, though. Most poor daft virgins in these books demand at least two mind-bending orgasms before crossing state lines. Rafe finally gives Ember one during their first night at his family's estate. At breakfast the next morning, he makes her kneel on the floor and tells her debt bondage is happening:

"From this moment on, you are not Ember Salvatore, you're Rafe Commargo's property. You are nothing but an object, a thing made to please me. You, my sweet girl, are mine in all ways."...

"And when my debts are paid, I get to leave?"...

"You'll leave when the embers turn black and only ash remains."

So he'll fuck her until he gets bored, then he'll cremate her so nobody can identify her body. Finally Ember clues in that she's gotten herself into an extremely fucked-up situation. But mostly she's upset that she thought "someone like him could ever love" her. Not enough that she isn't still DTF, of course, because "he makes [her] doubt [her] down thoughts."

The next day Rafe sends for an OB/GYN to supply Ember with an IUD and the morning-after pill and begin tracking her ovulation cycle. The doctor plainly recognizes this as an extreme violation of all the medical ethics, but Rafe's "money and power" prevents him from pressing the issue. Unsolicited, Rafe assures him that "she is no prisoner here."

By the way, I don't have a rash.

See? Now you think I have a rash.

Ember spends the next week lounging around the house and waiting for Rafe to take an hour out of his day-to-day life to fuck her, occasionally within sight of his household staff. She decides this fate is better than any fate in which Rafe doesn't fuck her. And so it proves, because after she attempts once to have a conversation, he goes cold and doesn't fuck her. But she keeps the hope alive that somehow, some way, she'll get him to fuck her and like her at the same time.

Rafe brings Ember to a dinner with Asshole Dad, Asshole Brother, and all their Asshole Business Associates. Asshole Dad refers to Ember as one of Rafe's "whores." She feels worse for Rafe, though, because Asshole Dad keeps finding excuses to disparage Rafe's superior metrics. That is, until Rafe fingerbangs her under the table and at least one of the Asshole Business Associates can totally tell. Ember runs off upon realizing this, followed by Rafe, leading to her screaming at him for not liking her enough. And then she falls backwards into the ocean.

This is the turning point, for after he rescues her and fucks her, he stays in bed with her. Yay. After a few more weeks:

...my obsession over her has grown into something... deeper. She's not my property that I can do with as I please—she's a living, breathing person. One that I've grown rather fond of.

Well, look at that. He does remember that you can no longer count human beings as "other chattels" in the United States. If you want to get away with that, Rafe, have you considered South Sudan for your next vacation property?

Things go well for a while—by which I mean he continues to fuck her, occasionally laughs with her, and punches Asshole Brother in the face for hinting that he'd also like to sample the wares—until this:

...I suddenly feel the urge to say what I've been holding in my chest for so long. I love Rafe Commargo. I think my foolish heart probably has since he paid for my subs at the gas station.

WOW. I've never seen a love epiphany ruined as swiftly and brutally as that. You know the ballroom scene in the 2005 version of Pride and Prejudice? Imagine Keira Knightley ripped a giant fart on the last step. That's how bad this is.

Except, amazingly, it gets worse. Rafe is so shook by the word "love" that he orders Ember to take it back. When she doesn't, he yells that she's an object who means nothing to him. When she refuses to repeat that back to him, he rapes her.

And the morning after that, as she gazes at the plane ticket back to Chicago that he bought for her, she feels pain at the thought of never seeing him again.

But all is not lost! You see, after he tried to rape her out of loving him, he realized he was really trying to rape himself out of loving her and her goodness and purity and skin that tastes like French silk pie. And so, after his own return, he spends the next few weeks wooing her with G-rated dates, love notes, and in-depth conversation. He's so successful that they're still together a year later, by which time she's saved up enough of her own money, at her insistence, to reenroll at the university she had to leave after her scholarship ran out.

Which is the University of Chicago.

...............

..................................

..............................................................................

THE UNIVERSITY OF CHICAGO?!?!??!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

NO! NO! NO, SHE FUCKING DIDN'T! The University of Chicago is one of the most academically rigorous schools on the planet! It's produced 97 Nobel Laureates, 53 Rhodes Scholars, 52 MacArthur Fellows, and its own school of economic philosophy! Its alumni include the CEO of Microsoft, the founder of the Oracle Corporation, three US attorneys general, three overseas prime ministers, and one co-discoverer of DNA! My own husband got his master's degree there! And you expect me to believe that this fucking idiot Ember, who would gladly chomp into an apple offered to her by a forest witch, was ever allowed to set foot on campus to use the toilet? GO FUCK YOURSELF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But, hey, Rafe and Ember got an HEA. Shit's cool.

“I am a patient man, sweet girl. I love you and I’ll spend every day for an eternity proving it to you if that’s what it takes.” 😮‍💨🤍🤞🏽

this is a short but sweet story following rafe & ember. as soon as rafe laid eyes on ember in a gas station he knew she had to be his. i was very interested from the first page of the story. this is a novella packed full of emotion, angst & a lot of heat. i do feel there wasn’t tht much character depth which is something i personally rly enjoy, but the plot was still very good & i enjoyed the characters.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading Liberated by A.J. Wolf which was mesmerizing for a stalker-romance addict like me. The main male character, Rafe, is definitely no hero. He is more of a cold, seemingly heartless, emotively resonant villain who happens to have an unhealthy obsession for a girl she saw for a few minutes in a gas station. Only one look from her is enough for him to start stalking her and come up with an elaborate plan to somehow wreck her world into pieces. Ember, on the other hand, is purity and grace personified. She is the polar opposite of what Rafe and Rafe’s entire world is and that fact drives his crazy to unspeakable ends. If you are darkish romance fan like me with a sweet spot for obsessive, possessive and arrogant alphaholes, you will really enjoy Liberated and probably end up fanning yourself half the time🔥🔥🔥

Fantastic and Liberating A Must Read!!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Review

Though I have several of AJ Wolf’s books this is the first I have had the chance to read and OMG why have I been holding out on reading her books. This book had me hooked from the first page. This book had you feeling all levels of emotion and anger simultaneously in a continuous up and down rollercoaster ride. But yet it was the perfect mix. And the characters were perfectly written and even after all they went thru got their HEA.

This is Ember and Rafe’s story and fair warning it’s an intense and tricky one. Ember is on her own in the world and just barely managing to make ends meet. Rafe is an independent business man and is making a name for himself and has no financial struggles at all but struggles with trusting anyone and is sure everyone wants to destroy him. When they meet it’s at a gas station he sees Ember struggling to pay for something to eat and when the cashier and another poke fun at her he steps in, reluctantly that is, and helps her pay for something to eat. They both feel this instant connection, one he decides he can not avoid and takes matters into his own hands and has to have her with him at all times…..to do with as he pleases. It’s not all roses and perfection after that moment, we get to see a side of Rafe no one will be expecting to see and that is what made me addicted was the drastic change that happened.

This is a definite must read. It will have you shocked, amazed and then swooning once the groveling begins after eyes are opened and feelings are realized. Absolutely freaking awesome book. Definitely kept me on edge. Highly recommend this book and am seriously looking forward to reading more books past and future by her.

Wow, what did I just read? I have a serious love/hate relationship with Rafe. Ember seems to be that smart kind of stupid. I’m not sure how else to describe her. Rafe needs therapy, and Ember might actually need some herself to find some self worth.
I loved that this was extended from a novella to a full length novel. And loved the dual POV. I think what I liked the most about this book was that I loved to hate it. I wanted to kick Rafesc rear wend up one wall and down the other. But Ember deserved the same. He was so arrogant and controlling. Self centered and just a straight up 🐴 As for Ember, is she that hard up for love that she falls for a pig like him?
I wanted to throw my book out the window so many times (but I kinda like iPad lol) so I powered through. And here’s why I powered through. If a story can illicit that many emotions from you, then they’ve done their job. If those emotions make you want to throw your book out a window, then they’re really done their job.
These characters got to me. Made me mad, made me feel sorry for them, kind of liked them sometimes. The story was very well written because hey, I loved and hated it evening to finish lol. Good thing I take blood pressure meds it I might have had a heart attack at some point with Rafe lol.

Thank you AJ Wolf from making Wrecked (My review here: Wrecked ) into a longer book. Wrecked is an 80-something page novella all told from Embers point of view. I fucking loved it so much. It gave me all the emotions.

FOR ONCE AN AUTHOR LISTENED TO ME..... Okay, so she didn't listen to me exactly.... I wished for this to be a longer book and she fucking did it though and it was perfect.

Liberated is a longer version of Wrecked, told with Rafe's POV. I honestly am not sure if all of Embers original story is included in this or not. I can't remember, but I loved that I got to read both and if I had to do it again, I would probably want to read both again. You will love them, you will be mad at them, then you will love them again.

Thank you so much AJ for giving me more of this story.

If you read this, Enjoy My Friends….

Ember is struggling to get by when she first meets Rafe at the gas station. Rafe comes to her rescue when she doesn’t have enough money to buy a sandwich, and he’s instantly taken back by her. He becomes almost obsessive about her, having his PI dig up her information, he buys the coffee shop she works at, buys her apartment building and pays her bills.
When he asks her to go away with him for his business trip she agrees. She’s falling in love with him, but is also hurt by how he treats her. She doesn’t think he cares about her and his actions don’t help. So when she confesses her love and he tells her she’s nothing to him and sends her home on the first plane out, she’s devastated.
This was a good, short read. They definitely have a roller coaster of a relationship and he’s very closed off. One thing I loved about Ember was she made him earn her forgiveness in the end. She didn’t just roll over.

3.5 Star Review

I went in with higher expectations for this book but it still caught my attention when I continued to read it.

It starts with a rich, wealthy man who pretty much is a loner. He doesn't get along with his family but they all run the company they own. His father and younger brother never agree with him when it comes to decisions pertaining to the company. So he pretty much does things his way.

When Rafe saw a woman in a position that she was almost starving herself, you could tell she didn't have money and he decided to help her out. He got captivated with her and decided to look into her. He charmed her and got her to trust him and started to wine and dine her.

His intentions were to ruin her but it turns out fate had other plans for him.

I didn't feel the connection to be genuine with the main characters but I still liked the story and where it was going.

This dark hostage romance had my heart in my throat as I read this book. That's the best way I can explain this feeling I had throughout this story. These characters just had a chokehold on me. I loved every minute of this agony.

Ember is sweet and kind though having had a difficult life she chooses to see the goodness in the world. She trusts easily and loves fast. It was heartbreaking as she was emotionally wrecked.

Rafe is tough, ruthless, intelligent, and absolutely cut-throat. One interaction is all it took for him to have a full-blown obsession with Ember. He stalks her, takes her, and makes her his in the most heartless of ways. He is the villain, he is the morally-grey possessive anti-hero.

Emotional whiplash is what you'll experience. One moment Rafe is a kind, thoughtful man and then BAM he's a monster. His damaged heart seems to only shine through for Ember after an intense rollercoaster ride of emotions.

This book is perfect for the stalker romance addicts.

Sweet, yet Dark Romance

Rafe Commargo, billionaire businessman whose home life has left him Playing by his father's rules. Leading him to a lonely, miserable life without emotions, affections nor attention.

Ember Salvatore, living pay check to pay check on a seemingly always empty stomach.

A chance encounter has him obsessively hunting her, stalking her, peeling her life apart for several weeks. Whisking her away for several more weeks. Imbedding himself into every aspect of her life, making her completely dependent on him for all of her needs; his sweet submissive.

Liberated is a full length version of the Wrecked novella. I found it to start as a sweet novella romance that quickly turned to dark and angsty yet back to sweet once his walls were broken and crumbling around him.

Actual rating: 3.5

Rage and Ember meet by happy coincidence at a gas station: she is unable to afford more than a coffee until Rafe steps in, and with one look into her eyes, he’s a goner for her. Obsessed, he finds a way to whisk her away to the Hamptons for 6 weeks, where she loves lavishly for the first time in her life… but not without a price: humiliation. Being someone’s property.

The journey that Rafe and Ember take is certainly not without its ups and downs. He treats her poorly and pushes her away before realizing he can’t stop thinking about her. Ember finally finds her voice after being repeatedly humiliated by Rafe, and she makes him work for it (good girl!).

For as much as Ember and Rafe go through, and things finally start going in a positive direction, this story felt unfinished. Maybe I wanted more of the good times to balance all the crap that Rafe subjected Ember to. But, maybe that wasn’t the point of this novella.

Tropes: rich boy/poor girl, humiliation, blackmail, second chance, light domination

This billionaire stalker romance is addicting and a fantastic story from the H’s POV. I love reading from the male perspective, it gives the story such a unique view.

Rafe is definitely your anti hero. He’s cold, calculating, and heartless. After laying eyes on Ember, he ends up with an unhealthy obsession and a cold plan to wreck her.

You’ll end up with a lot of love hate feelings while reading this story. Rafe is a definite A-hole. I love that Ember makes him work for it in the end.

Liberated is the full length story of the novella Wrecked. This story was good and the characters even better.

ARC COPY REVIEW

contemporary romance, dubious consent, billionaire stalker, second chance, humiliation, dark romance, opposites attract, age gap, dual pov, steamy, family drama

I loved this story. A new flawed but hot book boyfriend added to the list. Rafe reminded me of Joe from Netflix You and Sebastian from the movie Cruel Intentions. This guy is not all vanilla and the fact that he's intimidated by the power and understanding nature of Ember makes her his next target. I didn't read the novella prior to this so I thought I'd be super confused but wasn't since this story did a good job of explaining itself.

Sucked in to this world from the first page! Ember and Rafe are from opposite sides of the tracks, so to speak, but the chemistry between them is searingly hot 🥵. Having a run in at the gas station, leaves Rafe wanting more, and he doesn’t understand why. His new obsession, Ember, is literally starving and trying to stay afloat. He’s found she gives him a purpose in his mundane life of work and not wanting to trust women don’t just want him for his money. The blurb for the book doesn’t do enough justice for the story, but it gets your attention from the start.

Just wow! I dove into this book without reading Wrecked and killed it all in one sitting. You follow the story of a struggling Ember who happens to just look at a handsome billionaire alphahole Rafe.

This book will have you on love, hate, rinse and repeat. The story was amazing, characters you’ll love, and just all around amazing book.

There is some spice, for me wasn’t too much or too little but just the right amount.

⚠️there are some TW, so be sure to check them!⚠️

This is an extended version of the story Wicked. It includes chapters in thr MMC 's POV.

The characters were so very dark and possessive and complex and complicated and perfectly steamy together. Plot was intriguing and intense and well paced. World building was excellent and impressive. Thoroughly enjoyed and highly recommend.

Oh. My. Hotness!
Ember and Rafe are oh so spicy. Upon first meeting Rafe is completely taken by Ember. Ember immediately sees that Rafe isn't who he portrays himself to be, and trusts him. Ember accepts going on a bussiness trip with Rafe and thing heat up fast, way too fast. Rafe being that bad boy alpha can't show weakness and pushes Ember away. Rafe realizes he can't live without her and wins Embers heart all over again in the sweetest way.

Such a great stalker romance!

Loved the characters!

Rafe is certainly a character you'll love to hate!

Ember, poor down and out Ember! So glad she has the strength to make Rafe work for them!

After Wrecked, this was so cool to read!

These are the only two books I've read by this author, but, they will not be my last. That's for sure!

I really enjoyed reading Rafe and Ember’s story! When I started this book, I really didn’t know what to expect, but I was very pleasantly surprised! This book is very fast paced with short chapters, but I found that I really enjoyed the length of this book. Overall, I would definitely recommend that anyone read Liberated if you enjoy Possessive Billionaire Romances!

I really like this one.
After Rafe sees Ember he low key stalks her.
Then he starts to low key takes care of her,
all that thinking he can't love her.
When he finally realizes he needs her, he lets her in. 😍 ugh!!
I'm glad that Ember is making him wait.
Too bad she couldn't punch his brother and dad in the nuts.😒
So good.

This is Rafe and Embers story. She is down on her luck and he notices and decides to help her out. Then he decides she must become his period. They're from very different backgrounds. She is poor, he is well off. I loved this story and the connection they ended up having with each other. Definitely one you need to read.

! So good I have read it twice! A poor girl and a rich guy with a dark twist. A novella that’s packed full of emotion and heat

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This is a hot and spicey darkish romance novella. We don't get much character depth but they are still intriguing and the storyline is too. Good read.
