Gemmi Brooks was humiliated at the last family reunion when her boyfriend was found in bed with her cousin. With her self-esteem shaken, and to offset the pity party her family has been throwing in her honor, she invented the love of her life. Now the jig is up and she needs to find the boyfriend she’s told her family she’s been dating for the last 5 months.

Camden Haught, the sexy bachelor and bartender/owner of The Haught Spot, is always willing to help a woman in distress, so when the local heartthrob offers himself up to play the role as her boyfriend he can’t understand why Gemmi’s so resistant. As he tries to convince her he’s the right one for the position he finds himself wanting more.

Both of them have reasons to keep their emotions and this farce of a relationship under wraps, but as this pretend relationship turns to real passion, there’s a decision that has to be made. Should they take the risk to make this real or keep it as A Haught Date?

Wow.

WTF did I just read and fucking WHY?!

This whole book was bullshit and I don't know how it was considered funny. It was, quite frankly, sad as all fuck.

The heroine's cousin is stealing and fucking all her boyfriends... and no one knows why. The cousin, Roxanne, went from being her BFF to making her feel like a failure as a woman.

The hero...is "just a nice guy" who Roxanne has been trying to fuck for over a year.

And the climax of this shitshow is the hero getting locked in a bathroom with Roxanne who is dressed in lingerie.

Cue heroine being humiliated again.

ONLY the hero can get Roxanne to admit that all the slutty and disgusting behavior is because Roxanne wanted to hang out with the heroine's mom.

WTF, people!!

Roxanne, after admitting to the hero that both of them have ripped the heroine's heart to shreds and she's not done shit to deserve it, goes and forces the heroine to speak to her. She admits she misses the heroine's mom. BTW, the mom never sent her anywhere, Roxanne just woke up a slut one day.

There's no fucking groveling. THere's barely a fucking apology.

I would have kicked that bitch's ass all up and down town. There would NEVER be a family reunion with the two of us ever again. I would fuck her ass up every time I laid eyes on her. Her ass would have to get into witness protection. HOW THE FUCK do you go from being the person I love best to fucking my boyfriends to humiliate me? FUCK THAT SHIT.

There is NOTHING funny about that. This shit is fucking terrible. Fuck family if it came to that shit.

OMG!!!!!! This is book 1 to what is not gonna be just a HAUGHT series but HOT HOT HOT.

This book is Camden, the youngest brother who LOVES women....just not forever. When he wasn't able to go to his friend/more like a sister True gallery event, he got intrigued by her assistant after an article in the paper. When True asks him to help her assistant by being her pretend boyfriend he can't say no.

What do you do when you tell your family you have been dating the same guy for 6mths and now he needs to show up at a family reunion? You ask your best friend/boss for help.

Gemmi and Camden meet in the moat interesting way and continue to break all the rules. You also can't forget Roslyn and her misguided actions that could keep these 2 apart forever.

"His kiss was slow and lingering like he was trying to gather information out of her through her lips. The kiss grew in intensity. She grabbed his hair, holding him close and reveling in the way his lips tugged at hers and demanded more while still so gentle."

Gemmi's life took a tumble when during her last family reunion, she finds her boyfriend and cousin in bed together. Ever since, her family has been trying to set her up with another guy so that she won't be single anymore. Problem is, Gemmi is in no way ready to be in another relationship and get hurt. So what to do when the next family reunion is around the corner and she's lied and told her family she's seeing someone? Gemmi's friend True comes up with the idea to set her up with the perfect guy. Unfortunately, Gemmi thinks he's too perfect. Camden is sexy and has women falling at their feet for him. Plus, his last name is Haught! She just wanted a simple guy to pretend to be her boyfriend, not a guy with killer good looks that could have any woman he wants. The sparks fly between these two immediately but she's wary.

Camden Haught is too good to be true. Volunteers at the animal shelter, works with his brothers at the bar, sexy as all get out. So why does this sexy guy seem to be hiding secrets and holding himself back from having a relationship? As Gemmi and Camden get closer, she becomes more and more intrigued by him and can't help herself from developing feelings for him. Camden can't either but something stops him from acting out and trying to make this more than just friends with benefits.
Both have their reasons as to keeping this a friends only deal but the chemistry between the two is undeniable.

I genuinely liked both Gemmi and Camden, along with the rest of the cast of characters introduced in the book. Her friend and boss, True, along with his brothers made this a fun read. You can see there's definitely enough to make this into a series and I hope it happens. I didn't like the fact that Rosy acted like a high schooler, being immature and having done what she did to Gemmi for stupid reasons. I also didn't appreciate that the family didn't toss her out on her ass and made Gemmi feel like she was at fault for not being able to hang on to her boyfriend. I look forward to reading more books from this author. I think the pacing was good, the characters likable, and the story sweet, sexy and spicy.

I grabbed this book as soon as it came out because it has one of my very favorite tropes (so much so that I’m writing a version myself right now) the fake significant other. I don’t know why but it’s a surefire selling point for me. I don’t care if they’re doing it for an inheritance, as a defense against a suitor who can’t take no, or as in the case of A Haught Date, saving face at a family reunion.

The Good: Gemmi is adorable. It takes a deft hand to make a woman in a novel a flirty, fun seductress AND a shy, insecure basketcase, but Dahlin pulls it off. Gemmi uses snowglobes as meditation items, keeps together her flaky artist boss, and battles her own insecurities. Even when I wanted to shake Gemmi, it was because I wanted better for her, not because she was unrealistic.

The Meh: Our hero is Camden, the sexy too-hot-to-be-real bar owner whose brothers initially appear to be ten seconds from romancing the same woman (though by the end it’s clear who will be the focus of the sequel.) Gemmi tries to reject him out of hand but he’s persistent. This white knight complex informs just about everything he does and for much of the book, he’s aggravatingly perfect. I’d have liked to see a little internalized pain earlier from him to justify all the white knighting.

The Bad:
Rosy – I was disappointed when the evil cousin turned out to be SUCH a bitch. Maybe the family does feel sorry for her but Rosalyn’s villainy is cartoonishly drawn. I found myself confused by her relationship to Gemmi. First Gemmi calls her “her former best friend” but later it’s hard to believe they’ve been friendly at all since they were kids. And given how awful she is throughout the story, I found her later attempts at reconciliation unconvincing. Tigers don’t change their stripes.

Dahlin is at her best when she’s letting the trope work for her, playing on the absurdity of the set up. She falters when she lets the clichés take over. Rosy is too evil. Gemmi shines as the center of the book and I was rooting for her the whole time. For all my complaints, I enjoyed this book and I’ll probably pick up the next Haught novel when it releases. Gotta admit, from what I can see, the next brother is probably going to be my favorite.

I would give this book 4 stars, it was a different twist on the whole need a fake boyfriend thing. I also like the way you can relate to Gemmi in this book, how one minute she's a flirty carefree woman and the next she's a insecure, shy woman. And Camden is a sweetheart, who trys to help out the needy. He thinks he has a penance to pay for, so he goes out of his way to help. The only thing is I wish there wasn't as many mistakes in the writing, and usually I don't notice but in this one I did but it doesn't take away from the story.
Gemmi was humiliated at the last family reunion when her boyfriend was found in bed with her cousin Rosy. And ever since then everyone is trying there best to hook her up with whoever they know that's single. So True Gemmis boss and friend knows someone who can help play the role of boyfriend to help her keep her family off her back. In comes Camden who is a local heartthrob who offers himself up to help. But after a little get together in the bathroom before Gemmi knows who he is, she's reluctant to go through with it. Both of them have reasons why they should just stay friends with a no strings attachment, but with all the sparks and chemistry they have will it be possible. Then don't forget about the cousin Rosy who has stolen one boyfriend and knows and wants Camden already. Will the past repeat itself or are they meant for each other? I would recommend this book and I honestly can't wait to read about the other two Haught brothers!

A Haught Date by Leela Lou Dahlin is an entertaining read. It is the story about Gemmi Brooks, an art gallery assistant who believes herself to be quite average and ordinary. Gemmi’s low self-esteem and “nothing special” outlook on life is partly due to her cousin Rosy’s constant interference. Rosy, once Gemmi’s best friend, has been a thorn in her side ever since Gemmi returned home college.

A really wonderful story. Very enjoyable. I found very little frustrating about this story.
It made me long for one of the Haught brothers myself :).
Cam is sexy and sweet but standoffish. He has his reasons.
Gemmi is pretty sweet herself but she's also a little crazy at times.
I look forward to True and Alec's story.

I read through this "Haught" book in a number of hours. I went into it thinking it would be your standard girl needs fake boyfriend, boy and girl fall in love storyline, but within the first chapter I knew this was something different and special. I can't wait to see what happens with the other Haught brothers, and see how Gemmi and Camden are.

A Haught Date was fun, steamy, a little sad but also very sweet. I adored Gemmi and Camden. I loved the playfulness between the two. Their story was a heartwarming one about forgiveness, second chances and family.

Gemmi is a very kind hearted and lovable person. She’s had unfortunate luck with men who are disloyal and has been embarrassed a few years now at her family reunions. Gemmi is tired of feeling pitied and wants her family to stop trying to set her up. This leads to her making up a fake relationship. It works great until she’s expected to bring him with her to the next family reunion.

In walks Camden. He’s handsome, caring and most importantly willing to play the part. Camden may act cheerful and carefree but underneath it all is a man suffering. No one has been able to break through his barriers and figure out the real him. That is until Gemmi came along.

Their agreement may have been to pretend to be a couple and then end it amicably but all bets are off when the heart gets involved.

Gemmi just wanted to have her family back off and not be the fool for once in the last few years. She isn’t the same as she use to be. Having been humiliated in front of family is very hard to handle. So, this year she was thinking of asking a guy to just be a stand in so her family would know she’s ok and that they can stop fixing her up on dates. True is Gemmi’s best friend and just wants to help her out and knows of a guy for her that loves to help out anyone he can. Camden wants to help everyone and anyone to be on karmas good side. He’s the baby of the Haught brothers and the guy who will help anyone and everyone out that he can. True is part of his family in and adoption way of just being there when no one else was. Camden is always nice and sweet but also quite. He agrees to Gemmi’s needs and what happens is he begins to change his ways for her and only her but Gemmi second guesses herself a lot and doesn’t have self confidence which Camden helps her find.

The Cousin Has to GO . . .

The family reunion was memorable for Gemmi Brooks, but not for the right reason. Her boyfriend was caught in bed with her cousin. So to brush off the humiliation, she told the family she is dating a really hot guy. Now she has to present the sexy boyfriend she claims to have been dating for 5 months to her family.

Camden Haught is the sexy owner of The Haught Spot bar. Rescuing women is his favorite sport. He tells Gemmi he will happily pretend to be her boyfriend. She seems to resist his charms, which makes him try harder. But his efforts are rewarded when both of them start having actual feelings for each other. And that will lead to some serious choices to make. Will they decide to become a real couple? Or will they go their separate ways? And what will they do about the cousin who has made it her life’s mission to steal away all Gemmi’s boyfriends?

I am so glad I read this book. I loved Gemmi and Camden. They were perfect for each other.

Camden is sent to Gemmi by his friend to be her fake boyfriend due to an upcoming family event. Camden doesn’t date women and has his own set of rules. He is sexy and runs a bar with his Haught Brothers. He is also always wanting to help women and anyone in need.

Gemmi is sweet and kind but has not had a good experience with family functions and trying to set her up. This year she is not going to let them keep trying to set her up. So she agrees to Camden although he is not what she was looking for since he is so HOT.

I loved watching these two develop a relationship they weren’t really looking for and realize what they had. Yes they had obstacles One big one named Roslyn. Man I hate her and still do.

Check out this book and I can’t wait to read the next Haught brothers book.

Great Story, Great Characters, wish there was more development

I feel like this was a really good story that needed to be expanded upon a little to make it great. We got snippets of the time Gemmi and Camden spent together but relationship development between all of the characters (including True and Gemmi) was missing for me. I did enjoy the storyline and this authors obvious talent in telling a story - I just feel like the story was somewhat squashed together (lots of hot and cold emotions with little depth into exploring why) versus letting us into the softer moments that brought all of these characters together. I will continue to read this series because I can’t not know what happens next. PS - Rosy can suck it - Gemmi’s quick forgiveness proves she’s a strong gal than most!

Whoo, That Ending

The story was middle ground okay for me, until the end. Rosalyn's excuse/reasoning for sleeping with Gemmi's boyfriends is trash. No way around it, Rosalyn does not redeem herself. She wanted their family to think she was better than Gemmi so she hurt and embarrassed her cousin at family functions. Doesn't make much sense, does it? I don't even think Rosalyn's embarrassed about hurting Gemmi in that way. The only reason she even reconciles with Gemmi is at Camden's request.. it feel weird to make this review so much about a secondary character, but it really took away from this book.

I'm so glad this book was rereleased. If you looking for a story with a women that has "a little extra softness" and a sculpted Adonis who can they enough of her then you've come to the right place. Camden and Gemmi are battling their own ghosts. They don't think they are good enough for each other for one reason or another....She's not good enough, he's not worthy. What they realize almost too late is how absolutely perfect they are together. The end with make you release a breath you didn't know you were holding.
The book is a good beach/travel read.

This was a quick, easy, entertaining read. It would’ve been a 4 ⭐️ read if not for how easily Rosalyn was forgiven for being such a horrid cousin. She was such an incredibly MEAN mean girl that I found myself putting the book down in frustration. Other than that nasty woman getting the easy “oh, it’s all good because you were jealous and I love you anyway” moment, I truly liked Camden and Gemmi. They both had issues to work through and, while they withheld more than they should have, they found the right path in the end.

Gives new meaning to Haught

This one really touched on family dynamics and what may be staring you in the face without realizing it. Camden was a piece of cake to fall for. What girl wouldn't?! Gemmi is a total sweetheart and a much better person than I am. Family or not I would've throat punched someone for putting me through what she was dealt. Lol Leela Lou Dahlin hooked me with this starter series book and I can't wait to see what the rest of the Haught brothers have in store for them.

Super-hot book from a new-to-me author. I love a good, steamy romance and this one definitely delivered. Gemmi has had a tough time at love but reluctantly agrees to a blind date. Instead, she meets a hot stranger at a bar. After some sexy times in the bathroom she's stunned to realize that THIS was the man her friend has set her up with. The chemistry is undeniable as Camden helps appease Gemmi's family by becoming her fake boyfriend. But too soon the situation starts to feel all too real. A great read for anyone who loves steamy, fast-paced romance!

One of these books where the family is always trying to set up their daughter and the dates are terrible because the family just doesn't understand. Then the daughter takes things in her own hands and asks a friend to help out. Not realizing he has liked her for a very long time. Well I would say its the same old same kind of story but its not the Author was great at keeping this original and keeping us wanting more...

A cute story and a sweet romance with both characters running from a real relationship. Gemmi has self esteem issues and can't believe a hot guy like Camden would look twice at her. There are layers to Camden, but most women don't bother to look beneath the surface. I liked the back and forth romance between the two, but his reason for avoiding relationships seemed a bit flimsy and Gemmi was way too quick to forgive.

This was a fun, cute story! I met Leela Lou Dahlin at Shameless and bought this book from her! It's my first read and I can't wait to dive into more of her stories. The only thing that frustrated me was Gemmi forgave her cousin way too easily. I won't give spoilers, but sorry, I wouldn't forgive that woman that quick if she did that to me. lol
