Heroes exist. Let a Janie Crouch book prove it to you.
I really enjoyed this one! It pulled me in from beginning to end and I loved getting to dive in to Bear and Joy's story! We saw them dancing around each other in the previous book in the series so it was nice that their story was next. This book can be read as a standalone though it does deal with the aftermath of the attack that happened to Joy in the last book. This book picks up roughly about two months after the attack on Joy and while she has pretty much healed physically from the wounds she is still dealing with the trauma and trying to find her way forward. She is struggling and while Bear and Joy have danced around the feelings between them for years and it looked like timing was finally going to be right for them before the attack, now things have been halted again. They have an age gap with Bear being about 7/8 years older than Joy and it has definitely played a part in timing for them. I loved how Bear noticed Joy's struggles, (others did as well) even though she was putting on a brave face and trying to fake/pretend she was better than she was. Bear knew more was going on and set out to find a way to help her move forward and find her strength for that. Bear knew how strong she was and he wanted to give her the tools and support for her to do so. I loved watching these two interact. Bear meets Joy where she's at and he doesn't judge her or push her too far too fast but he does give her the nudge she needs while also letting her know that she doesn't have to be healed already. It is okay that she is still struggling and that she is going to experience ups and downs still with forward and backward progress since healing from trauma isn't a linear line. This story was really well done and it is more on the emotional side of things with the healing journey that Joy is on and Bear travels with her. He shares his journey as well and I loved seeing them open up and drop their walls with each other. This one doesn't have a insidious bad guy that they are trying to locate and take down, more about the aftermath of dealing with that and healing though they do have something going on in town. It didn't feel like anything was missing or like the story needed anything more to be fully engaging and needing to continue reading. I really enjoyed this one and was completely engaged and rooting for Bear and Joy to overcome the obstacles in front them. It was finally their time and I loved it. I'm excited to see what is coming next in the series! I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
Bear and Joy’s HEA nearly didn’t happen. After Joy’s attack, she was no longer the same girl she had been before. Everyone around her was walking on eggshells, afraid something might trigger her.
Bear had a hard time seeing her so lost. He made it his mission to help her find her way back to her old self. But she had been keeping secrets before, and now that she’s finally coming clean, he sees just how much more special she truly is. The danger is still there, though, and when push comes to shove, she stands her ground like the amazing woman she is.
I’ve been here since Cyclone, and this is probably my favorite series out there. The second generation is giving the OGs a run for their money, and I’m so happy to see it keep going.
Hero Mine Linear Tactical: Oak Creek Janie Crouch Joy Davis was a wild child tomboy who hid her feminine side from all of Oak Creek. Bear Bollinger was a mechanic and returned vet who hid his own scars. When her light was stolen and dimmed Joy didn’t know how to function. Bear never gave up on her. “Or maybe it was simply inevitable - as natural and unstoppable as gravity.” This booked grabbed me in the prologue and kept me invested the whole way through. Ms Crouch subtly builds tension from the beginning and keeps the pages turning with characters who feel and love deeply. There is a beauty to this series despite the rugged location and brutal obstacles each character faces. It is a romantic suspense read with a very protective hero and feisty heroine who get their hea. This could be read as a stand-alone novel but is best read as part of the second generation Oak Creek series. I received an arc of this book and I loved it! 4 stars
This one is heartbreaking, Joy having a hard time after the events in the last book. She really tries to put on a tough front and for the most part it's working. It isn't until Bear actually makes it into her house, finds how it is and where Joy is, her safe place, that you realize she is barley holding on by her finger nails. I really like how Bear supports her, yet doesn't cross the lines that Joy tells him about, which then further lets Joy lean on him for support.
Joy doesn't bounce back right away, but between her truck, helping Bear figure out why/who is stealing things and proving to herself that she can face violence, that slowly the real Joy starts to appear.
The ending to this one is perfect! Loved seeing this couple find their HEA.
Another nice visit to Oak Creek Wyoming. I've been visiting this town since the beginning, way back when the first generation got their HEAs. All of the books are stand alone, but there are pieces of each book that may have happened in a previous book and having read that makes the story more congruous. In the fourth book Joy Davis was involved in a home invasion, the thugs were looking for her roommate Sloane and Joy valiantly tried to protect/save her friend, but that didn't work in her favor. The physical wounds have healed but the mental wounds have not, and well healing is not Linear. Bear Bollinger has been a part of Joy's life, well, forever. But he never took the next step in their relationship, due to a small age gap. I call it small because we're not talking taboo type gap. He's not about to give up on Joy, even if she is pushing him away because she feels like damaged goods. This is a sweet story about Joy putting the pieces back together as well as showing everyone who she really is. There wasn't as much suspense in this book as others in the series, as the suspense started more after the 50% mark. However, it was done right. Ms. Crouch told this story in the manner which it needed to flow. I loved it. There are so many people that can relate to Joy's situation in one way or another.
We have been waiting sooo long for Bear and Joy's story. They have been dancing around each other for 16 years, the time was never right, but finally, finally it's their time. It's not a smooth or easy journey but WOW! It's good! Joy is fighting her demons but Bear is exactly what she needs, he knows when to step back and when to push, when to take charge and when to wait. I love that they are both flawed, both a little broken but both eventually realise they don't need to do it alone. A fantastic series with great characters, these books can be read as a standalone but having read the whole series I think they are more enjoyable when read in order. I read this on Kindle Unlimited.
I've eagerly anticipated this book, and it did not disappoint. The prologue overlaps the end of the previous book, Hero's Heart, from Joy's point of view. We see the blossoming of Joy's relationship with Bear and the hope for the future. Then comes the attack.
I loved Joy in both books. Before the attack, she was Miss Sunshine, with a smile or a joke for everyone. With the reputation of being a "wild child," she was full of spontaneous energy and actions. A month after the attack, she has healed physically, but mentally, she struggles. She copes as best she can, hiding her fears from those around her. The dreams she had before the attack are now buried, victims of her loss of confidence in herself. She's loved Bear for years, but not even that can break through the trauma.
Bear, the son of Finn and Charlie (Eagle), took over the mechanic garage from his uncle after returning from his time as a Marine. He is observant and caring and can be lethal when those he cares about are threatened. He returned from war with secrets of his own that give him insight into Joy's struggles. He has loved her since she was a teenager and wants to help her.
I ached for Joy and her struggle to recover. I also wanted to shake her and tell her to stop pushing away the people who want to help. Joy is fiercely independent and believes she can get through this on her own. I also hurt for Bear, who struggles to give her the space she wants. I loved seeing him finally reach his breaking point and step in after a particularly bad flashback. He won my heart with his quiet support, encouraging her to return to following her dreams and helping rebuild her confidence with his self-defense training.
I enjoyed watching Bear and Joy's relationship progress as she recovers. I especially liked how in tune they were, with each understanding how and when to push and when to back off. I loved their ease of communication, from serious subjects to lighthearted teasing. I liked how Joy turned Bear's encouragement to talk about what happened to her back at him when he revealed the secret he kept. As their relationship deepened, there were flashbacks to their past, especially Bear's issues with the eight-year age difference. I understood his position from their early years, but it took him a while to finally get past it. I loved Joy's growth as she healed and regained belief in herself and its effect on her relationship with Bear. I loved the epilogue, Bear's emotional speech to Joy, and his surprise for her.
There is a subtle layer of suspense in this book. Rather than a bad guy they have to hunt down, this occurs at home. A frequent feeling of being watched slows Joy's ability to move past her trauma. She doesn't know if the feeling is real or if she imagines it. It didn't take long to suspect the who, but the why was a mystery until the final confrontation. I loved how it turned out.
Another mystery affects the entire town. Someone is stealing odds and ends and junk from local businesses. This perplexed everyone; it took outside-the-box thinker Lincoln to figure it out. I loved this twist and how they handled it.
I continue to love the community of Oak Creek. They take care of their own, and I loved their support for Joy. Characters from the original Linear Tactical series and the second-generation members of this series play critical roles. Joy and Sloane remain close friends, and I loved Sloane's help and encouragement. My favorite secondary character in this book is Lincoln. His character fascinates me, and I'm excited that he is the hero of the next book. It will take a special lady to partner with him.
4.25stars- HERO MINE is the is the fifth instalment in Janie Crouch’s contemporary, adult LINEAR TACTICAL: OAK CREEK romantic suspense series, a second-generation spin off from the author’s LINEAR TACTICAL series. This is thirty-two year old mechanic Thomas ‘Bear’ Bollinger, and twenty-four year old waitress/ baker Joy Davis’ story line. HERO MINE can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary but I recommend reading HERO’S HEART for backstory and cohesion. Bear is (Finn Bollinger’s Son-EAGLE)
Told from dual omniscient third person perspectives (Bear and Joy) HERO MINE focuses on Joy Davis’ struggle with her recovery in the aftermath of an attack one month earlier. When her best friend Sloane was kidnapped (Hero’s Heart), and Joy was attacked trying to protect her friend, our heroine has struggled to move on with her life including a lack of emotional healing, and a physical distance. Bear Bollinger has been in love with Joy Davis since she turned eighteen but Bear struggled with their age difference, and the resulting spiral from his time spent in Iraq but Bear is determined to help Joy in her recovery, a recovery Joy struggles to accept, or move on with her life but all is not well in Oak Creek, someone is stealing junk from the local businesses, and Joy gets the feeling she is being watched.
The world building focuses on recovery and acceptance as the whole town knows Joy is struggling in the wake of the attack. Often refusing help, Joy begins to spiral, and Bear is determined to stop the mayhem that is controlling her life.
The relationship between Joy and Bear is a friends to lovers. Years earlier Bear rejected Joy’s attempts at seduction, and in doing so, drove a wedge in their friendship but Bear struggled and continues to struggle with their age difference, and his need to protect the woman with whom he has fallen in love. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.
Once again, there is a large ensemble cast of familiar, dynamic and determined secondary and supporting characters including several from the original Linear Tactical series : Sloane and Callum, Finn and Charlotte aka Charlie; several townies, tourists, and reporter Daniel Fletcher.
HERO MINE is a story of recovery and healing, family and friendships, acceptance and love. The character driven premise is edgy, encouraging and engaging; the romance is seductive and impassioned; the character are desperate and charismatic.
Hey there, fabulous readers! 😊 Get ready to dive into a heartwarming journey of healing, hope, and a whole lot of love! Janie Crouch’s incredible storytelling is like a warm hug—you can feel every bit of Joy Davis’s pain, fears, and triumphant moments just as if they were your own. And the way she brings Thomas “BEAR” Bollinger’s wounds to life? Totally next level—it’s so real, you’ll feel like you’re right there with him!
Now, let me tell you about Joy—she’s a spirited ‘tomboy’ with a wild, free vibe who’s been madly in love with Bear since she was a kid. Their story is super adorable— 17 1/2 -year-old Joy trying to flirt with her 25-year-old crush? Total fireworks—and a hilarious, relatable mess! Fast forward five years, and both of them are hoping things can finally click. Joy is working at the Eagles’ Nest, and Bear is the town’s go-to mechanic and bartender—talk about a small-town vibe! And guess what? Bear loves to keep an eye on Joy—and walk her home, of course. His dream? Seeing her succeed with her own food truck, thinking she’ll sell Tacos (yum!), but surprise—she’s got a totally different plan that will totally blow your mind.
Things get intense at the end of HERO’S HEART, with Joy suffering a terrible injury during her bestie Sloan Miller’s kidnapping. It’s a rollercoaster—you’ll be rooting for her as she feels broken and damaged, thinking she’s failed and scared of everything. She even can’t sleep at her own house and ends up crashing in her childhood playhouse—so relatable, right? But Bear? He’s right there, telling her she’s NOT broken—she’s healing, and that healing takes time, patience, and a lot of love.
Even when Joy starts to feel watched, her trauma hits close to home, and she’s navigating her way back to strength. Crouch handles her fears and her journey to rebuild with such care and tenderness—you’ll be cheering her on every step of the way! And Bear? His big heart and heartfelt concern for Joy just melt you. Their stories of overcoming different ‘wars’ and finally opening up to each other? Pure magic.
Trust me, this one’s another absolute must-read—an emotional rollercoaster that leaves you grateful for stories of resilience, love, and second chances. I’m just so thankful to have read it!
Joy is recovering after being attacked in her home. While the physical injuries may be healed, the mental scars are taking a lot longer to fade. Bear Bollinger hates to see his normally sunny wild-child so uncertain and hesitant. While he's always wanted Joy, the timing has just never been right. Just when they were both in a place to really try a relationship, the attack has taken away her confidence.
No one has realized just how much Joy has been struggling after the attack that nearly killed her in her own home. Joy's journey back is a heart-wrenching read. Presented with honesty and respect, Joy's emotional and mental health struggles may be a trigger for some readers. Once Bear sees just how much pain she is in, he puts plans into motion to help her regain her strength and sense of self - teaching her self-defense, helping her feel safe once again in her home and remember how to find happiness in her daily life. Bear is the perfect book boyfriend - he's patient with Joy's struggles, supports her without overwhelming or dominating her in an attempt to solve her problems. Joy is fiercely independent and has forgotten how to ask for help when she needs it. While understanding this about Joy, Bear gently pushes her to see that her friends in Oak Creek are willing to do anything they can to help her.
The plot of this Linear Tactical: Oak Creek story mainly focuses on Joy and her struggles to reclaim her life. The long-simmering romance between Bear and Joy is finally given the chance to flourish. There is also a healthy dose of suspense, mixed with a bit of danger. The story moves at a good pace and further develops the new generation of Linear Tactical characters. There is a bit of an unexpected twist to the storyline as well that will surprise some readers. It is best read after "Hero's Heart" as Sloane's and Joy's stories overlap a bit at the beginning of this book.
Four stars for this suspenseful, protector romance.
This is an honest, voluntary review of an ARC of the story.
Linear Tactical Hero's Of Oak Creek Hero Mine Review ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶️🌶️🌶️
Janie Crouch has done it again with another amazing story with characters that anyone can truly relate to. Timing is everything and sometimes that timing can feel regretful and be a source of pain. Joy Davis has grown up in Oak Creek and has always had big amazing dreams. She’s a huge bright light for anyone she comes across and you can’t help but love her. Bear Bollinger has also grown up in Oak Creek and has followed in his dad and brother’s footsteps as far as the military goes. He also took after his Uncle Baby taking over the auto shop and being the town mechanic. Bear can also be found working the bar at the Eagles Nest but does he really need to bartend or does he have other reasons for being there? Joy had her dreams all mapped out and was working on them when tragedy struck and now it’s as if she’s drowning and can’t find her way back to herself. Will she ever be herself again? Can someone go through something so traumatic and still be themselves? Bear will do anything to bring that light back into Joy, even when she refuses help. Will Joy and Bear ever be able to let someone in and share some of their deepest secrets? As we have all seen healing is never linear but what happens when you feel like you’re losing yourself every time you make progress? Can you still make your dreams come true when it feels like you’re being chased by your trauma? Joy wants everyone of Oak Creek to love her dream as much as she does but she really wants Bear to see all of her not just what she’s shown so far. Bear is also hoping Joy will always see him and not a man who is less than because of a traumatic moment in time. This book is such a beautiful and powerful story filled with love, pain, anger, sadness, depression, beauty and so much more.
Hero Mine by Janie Crouch Linear Tactical: Oak Creek #5
When the time is finally right, the stars are in alignment, the kiss was perfect, and…something goes horribly wrong…a story that drew me in, made me care, and eagerly reading to see what would happen next.
What I liked: * Joy Davis: strong, survivor, traumatized, has PTSD, coping as best she can, has dreams, wild child with secrets, drawn to and has loved Bear for years * Bear Bollinger: ex-Marine, mechanic, wise, caring, bright, lethal, has a secret, supportive, giving, persistent, cares deeply for Joy, wants to help her, patient * The way Joy and Bear were able to “see” one another, communicate, and were perfect for and with one another * The way Bear helped Joy improve her confidence and how he went about doing so * The Oak Creek community’s strong bonds, supportive, a place I would live * The Polar Plunge tradition and how it started * The Eagle’s Nest where Joy and Sloane work and it’s owner * Learning about Joy’s professional dreams, the interests she has and has pursued outside of town, and finding out what she keeps under her bed * The thread about items being stolen in town and how it was resolved * The threat that was lurking waiting to pounce and how when the pounce came…it was handily dealt with * Knowing that Lincoln Bollinger’s story is next…he intrigues me * All of it really except…
What I didn’t like: * Who and what I was meant not to like * Remembering just how horrible the Kozak Brother’s attack was and the impact it had
Did I like this book? Yes Would I read more in this series? Definitely
Thank you to the author for the ARC – This is my honest review.
Janie Crouch’s writing is a gift. Readers are able to feel the pain, fears and healing Joy Davis is dealing with; as they are the literal wounds Thomas “ BEAR” Bollinger carries with him. Joy is a free-spirited ‘tomboy’ who has been in love and lust with bear since she was little. Her one attempt as seduction at almost 18 to Bear’s 25 was a crash and burned event. Now 5 years later, they are both hoping to be in the same place. Joy is working at the Eagles’ Nest and Bear, the town mechanic, and PT bartender there also…. Where he can watch Joy and walk her home. He knows that she wants to create her own food truck which he thinks is to sell Tacos only to learn she has a totally different idea. At the end of HERO’S HEART, Joy is badly injured having been beaten during the abduction of her bestie Sloan Miller (Not a spoiler). Joy believes herself broken and damaged by what happened to her. A failure, scared of her shadow. To uncomfortable to sleep in her own home, she instead ‘sleeps’ in her childhood playhouse. Bear convinces her she is NOT broken, but healing. Healing takes place over time and with patience. Having recently had an incident, not at all like Joy’s but feeling broken, this reader could absolutely relate to these characters. Ms Crouch delves, with great care and sensitivity Joy’s fears and her willingness to ‘rebuild’ she inner strength. She is blessed with friends to support her and Bear who finds a way to help her accept she is healing. Brilliantly written. Gifted at unwrapping the concerns of Bear for Joy and hers for him. What happened to the both, in different wars so to speak, leads to confessions and acceptance of each other and self. Another one NOT to be missed. Am a grateful reader. Healing.
This is the story of Joy Davis and Bear Bollinger. They had been dancing around each other for years. First, Joy was too young, then Bear had been overseas, then her parents had died. But now the time was right, until it wasn't. Joy and her roommate Sloane had been attacked in their house by the Kozac brothers. Sloane had been taken and Joy was beaten so badly, she had to be hospitalized. Joy was traumatized so badly she wasn't able to stay in her home. Instead, she'd retreated to her old playhouse, where she felt safe. Bear found out, took her to his place and spent the next day fixing her old playhouse so it would be warmer and safer. That at least got her started on a path to healing; then Bear insisted on teaching her how to defend herself in case she was ever attacked again. It took many sessions, but gradually she got bolder and better at what he was teaching her. They slowly began to get closer and Joy was healing. She was finally able to clean out her house and move back with the help of friends. She had wanted to have her own food truck for years, only not the kind most people would halve imagined. The Food Truck Festival had a cancellation and she was invited to bring her truck at the last minute. It turned out to be a huge success and before long, she was using it in Oak Creek, which was also a success. There are a couple of sidle plots, which were interesting, one of which was tied to Joy's healing. And of course they found their happily ever after! It was an excellent story which I highly recommend. I received an advance copy of this book, but was not required to give a positive review.
Fantastic!! Each book I read in this series is as amazing as the last one. Janie Crouch is a master of suspense romance.
I was excited to read Bear and Joy's story and it does not disappoint. These characters are 3 dimensional and seem to jump off the page with their courage, honor, pitfalls, missteps and their abundance of respect, care and love. The journey Joy travels to overcome her trauma is a very difficult and complex path for her and it is Bear who gives her space, time and understanding to help make the trip a successful one.
I do not like to give details in my reviews, but I found this one scene so important that I have to share how I reacted to it. There is a time when Bear brings Joy back to her childhood playhouse, it is everything. He sees her. This is proof of his understanding, acceptance, devotion and unconditional love. It is powerful because Joy has her doubts about Bear. I don't believe I have read a scene that has brought me to tears the way this one did.
As Joy gets back on her feet with Bear there to support her every step, there are some strange things going on in Oak Creek. Joy thinks she's paranoid. Bear has suspicions. The momentum of these mysterious happenings is nail biting and the conclusion beyond satisfying.
I think every Linear Tactical couple (first and second generation) become my new favorite after each book. Each one is special and makes me feel good to have gotten to know them. I will try to be patient for Lincoln's story next.
Another emotional and thrilling visit with the men and women of Linear Tactical. Once Joy Davis enjoyed the pure pleasure of being alive, but since the attack she has become a shadow of her former self. It hurts Thomas “Bear” Bollinger to see how she has become trapped in the terror that she had physically survived. As Bear watches her continue to struggle with her recovery, he is shocked when he learns that she has been unable to live in her home. He needs to convince her to let him help her take back her self-confidence, her self-worth by teaching her self-defense. She needs to know that if she ever has to protect herself, that she can. Joy has been in love with Bear since her teen years, but will the time ever be right for them? As they work out together, her confidence grows, but there is something else that Joy needs to accomplish. She has long wanted something for herself, a food truck that offers pastries, quiches and breakfast sandwiches. Now that she is recovering that lost part of herself, Bear encourages her to go after what she wants and needs. With Bear’s support, will she finally achieve everything that she had hoped to, both professionally and personally? I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. (paytonpuppy)
Janie Crouch has created a page-turner that realistically illuminates, without sugarcoating, the aftereffects left after someone is seriously attacked.
Joy Davis is a free-spirited tomboy who has lived her entire life in Oak Creek, Wyoming. She is constantly smiling and happily interacts with all of the town people.
However, when Joy is seriously attacked in her house and left for dead, her personality completely changes. She is constantly afraid, cannot sleep or even be in her house, and suffers from PTSD.
Bear Bollinger, Oak Creek’ mechanic has grown up with Joy and has always been her anchor, protector and confident He has also always been aware that his feelings for her are stronger than that of a friend, but he ignores the thought.
When he discovers how bad Joy’s aftereffects are from her attack, he vows to himself that he will do everything he can to bring back the “real” Joy. That includes teaching her self-defense.
This is a heartwarming story that highlights the friendship and love between two people who are able to put their “broken pieces” together enough to find their “second chance.”
I’ve been waiting for Bear and Joy’s story, and Hero Mine did not disappoint. This book hit all the right emotional notes—slow-burn romance, real trauma recovery, and that signature Oak Creek danger lurking in the background.
Joy has always been a free-spirited and - well- full of joy, so watching her struggle to find her footing again after the attack was heartbreaking—but also powerful. Her journey felt so real, and I loved her healing wasn't rushed. Every step made her eventual transformation feel earned. And Bear… what a quiet, loyal rock. He’s the kind of steady, protective presence every romance reader dreams about—watching over Joy but never pushing, always waiting. When he finally decides to act on his feelings, it’s gentle but determined, and exactly what she needed.
There’s danger, there’s romance, and there’s a beautiful message about survival and rebuilding. Plus, catching up with familiar Oak Creek faces (and getting hints about Lincoln!) was such a bonus. If you’ve been following this series, you’ll love this installment. And if you’re new? It’s a great place to fall in love with the world Janie Crouch has created.
Hero Mine takes place not too long after the ending of Hero's Heart in the the aftermath of the vicious attack on Sloane Miller and Joy Davis. It's Joy's story of coping with and healing from her trauma. She's always been the daredevil tomboy who's never backed down from a challenge, always ready with a big smile and a sassy remark and lived life to the fullest. Bear Bollinger helplessly stands by and watches as the woman he's loved since she was eight years old becomes a frightened shadow of her former self. All the while not knowing how to fix her. Prodded by some sage fatherly advice he starts to figure out how best to help her which begins by treating her like she's not broken. Bear starts teaching Joy how to take back her power, physically defend herself and reminding her that she doesn't have to go it alone. New adventures await them both as the relationship that's been just in the offing all these years starts to develop. With an HEA within their grasp there are a few obstacles and some danger to overcome but those will not stop them.
They knew and loved each other since she was 8 years old. He was 8 years older. At the time, 8 years seemed to be an insurmountable gap. Their timing was never right either. There was always something in their way. She was well loved because she was the town’s bravest, kindest, and strongest girl since childhood, until the attack. She came to fear her own house and her own shadow. She even abandoned her dream. Bear couldn’t let the real Joy disappear. His love for her wouldn’t allow that. He made himself available to her, gave her space when she needed it, nudged her forward as she deserved. He saw the real Joy. She slowly healed and healed him too. But there were a couple of mysteries around them. Why the petty theft? Why things in her house moved? It was not she needed protection (maybe at times). She needed to rebuild her confidence to trust herself. Everyone needs a little help, and sometimes a second chance. The story is deep and profound, full of love and surprises. The town is incredibly lovely. I love the story.
Bear and Joy have know each other since they were children and have always been friends. Joy has always been a happy free spirit person till one day she was attached in her own home. Now she is not as happy and is always looking over her shoulder. She tells everyone she is fine but Bear knows the truth. He tries to help her get through this difficult time and is always there looking out for her. The more time they spend together and the closer they get and it turns into more then just friends. Through all that is going Bear is determined to bring Joy back to believing in herself.
I have been waiting for Bears story. And it was definitely a fantastic read. The romance between these two was very heartwarming. There are some surprises that always add to the story. Janie's stories will always keep you intrigued and get you anticipating what will happen next. I look forward to what is next in this series. I received a copy of this book as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.
This one was special....less action and none for the biggest part of the story and that was perfect! It needs to be read in order to fully grasp the context but even as stand alone you can appreciate i as we focus on the characters and on their recovery path mostly. Joy was always a bubble of energy , exhuberant and without fear.....However while attempting to protect her roomate she got beaten nearly to death and while she physically have recovered....she is not healed only a shadow of herself.....she tries to hide her fear, her terror but Bear see through her facade and he is determined to have her back.
Bear is well loved, mechanic always willing to help but he is also suffering in secret putting himself after other....When he sees Joy unravel he jumps to her help not expecting the situation to be so dire but understang what she is going through. With determination, persistence an honesty he is helping her to heal and perhaps himself too.
Really the story was perfectly balanced, moving, with a HEA such a great reads!
More emotional that suspense, but I am not complaining because it’s a JC book and I got a nee Bollinger hottie. (Although I still think Link will be my favorite and I think I got his fmc right but I’m heartbroken I have to wait a whole year for his book)
Aaaannnyyyywaaaayyyssss…
Joy. Bear. My heart. All broken in capacity or another, but what a beautiful way to see them heal together.
I thought we’d get more Bollinger’s in this book. Ethan and the sister have been MIA and Charlie could’ve a huge help in what they were dealing with.
But this book really is simply about Joy and Bear, two people who have circled around each other their whole lives, never finding the right time. Turns out the right time came after the worst moments of her life. The way he wasn’t just “steady” (which may seem ridiculous to some extent, but I understood why he’d be described that way and how that is just what they both needed) he also listened.
People underestimate the power of a good listener, and Bear didn’t just listen, he made sure she felt heard. And that right there is why I loved them.
Please. Don’t make me wait a whole year. I beg of you.
Hero Mine picks right up where Hero's Heart ended. Joy Davis has been through a very traumatic experience. Her physical injuries have healed after the break in to her home but her emotional injuries are still troubling her. No matter how much she tries to put on a brave face, Bear Bollinger knows the truth. He has known Joy her whole life and it is breaking his heart to see her struggling. Bear makes it his mission to help guide Joy to regain her old self. The problem is that Joy is a multi-faceted person and she isn't sure what direction her life should go in because she doesn't feel any sense of security any longer. Hero Mine is more of an emotional romance than anything. There is a very small suspense story lying within it but mostly it is the story of two people who were always meant to be together helping each other become their best selves. It was told from dual POV and among the angst there's plenty of laughter, heat and love! It stands alone in the series however you will read about many of the supporting characters from Oak Creek as well.
Joy has been in love with Bear since she was a kid but he is older. As the protector that Bear is he has been waiting for the perfect moment to go after Joy. Then when the stars seem to align that is when Joy is attacked and sent down a dark road.
Joy had always been a crazy, loud wild child. But after she was attacked she losses a little part of herself. She wants to be strong and get through it alone but sometimes we need someone helping us out. When Bear and her friends see the darkness that Joy is going through they do what they can to help her. Joy learns that sometimes in order to be strong you have to let others help you with the load.
Both Bear and Joy see that they are strong but sometimes asking for help makes you the strongest. As with all Janie's books the twist brings it all back together. I loved seeing the kids of the OG series and knowing that Oak Creek is still growing strong.
If you love stories with heart, twist and a HEA these book are for you. Happy ready!
True Love Never Gives Up The road to healing for Joy is a difficult one. After being attacked and left for dead, she now leaps at shadows and lives in constant fear. Once free-spirited and full of life, she struggles to reconnect with the person she used to be. No one seems able to reach her—except for the man who has always loved her. He is determined to help her heal, no matter how long it takes. Perhaps love truly can lead the way to healing. This story is both heartbreaking and heartwarming; it had me reaching for the tissues more than once. Much of the narrative follows Joy’s emotional journey as she works to reclaim her sense of self. However, just when it seems the story is solely focused on recovery, several unexpected twists introduce suspense and raise the stakes. I have always enjoyed this author’s books, and this one is no exception. I am already looking forward to whatever she writes next. This novel is an excellent choice for readers who appreciate protective heroes, emotionally rich stories, and powerful arcs of healing and second chances.
Chicken Soup For The Small Town Romance Lover’s Soul
I love Janie Crouch and her creative writing style cemented in heartwarming storytelling. This is another installment in the Oak Creek series and it did not disappoint. Bear and Joy’s relationship had a long standing history beginning in childhood. Bear’s compassion, patience, support and understanding of Joy’s needs following an assault had me develop such immense respect and love for him. The story also had a thought provoking scenario on how to create a teachable moment for young town’s people that made poor choices. Would love to see this done more often in real life situations. There are very little angsty moments in this installment but it’s nonetheless an enjoyable read. Can’t wait for Lincoln’s story in the near future!
My only grievance is the Audible companion. The narration was disappointing. It was delivered without regard to changing the intonation for Joy’s voice and Bear’s voice. Listening felt like the narrators literally just read the narrative. Annoying!
Highly emotional and addictive! Heading back to Oak Creek, Wyoming is always a pleasure when we get to see any of the old Linear Tactical crowd and extend our fandom with the next generation of heroes. Bear Bollinger has adored Joy Davis for years, but something always got in the way of pursuit. Seeing Joy trying to work through the trauma she went through with Sloane is breaking his heart and he can't resist stepping in to ease her fears. The concept of the story is easy to relate to, the characters have a connection immediately and the danger that's lurking is just enough mystery to keep it all exciting. I really enjoyed their story!
I highly recommend this book as well as the entire series plus the prior LT books to anyone that likes romantic suspense with a strong military type hero who meets his match in an equally spirited woman to share their life with while the backdrop of danger and camaraderie with their friends and family bring lots of entertainment along the way.
