Life comes with a bit of hurt, but luckily for these men, it also comes with the right amount of comfort to mend their breaks, both of the body and the heart. From facing deranged exes to economic trials, the men in these tales have faced trial by fire--or in some cases water--for the right to love and live. Step into their shoes as they rebuild their family after a gutting betrayal or traverse the stars with an unexpected partner. The Mended Daily Dose package delivers stories about all kinds of second chances built on love.

Devon and Chad have been best friends since they were kids. They started a rock band with two other school friends and fifteen years later they are a big sensation. Chad has demons he can't deal with and escapes in drugs and alcohol. When the drugs win and Chad dies Devon blames himself. Devon accompanies Chad's body back to their hometown and hides out in his parents home. When he goes out early one morning to get out of the house he comes across a bakery and the smell invites him in. He meets Micheal a former high school classmate. Devon breaks down in the bakery and Micheal comforts him. For the next several days Micheal comforts Devon and helps him realize that it wasn't his fault Chad died. This is a short, quick read. It is a kinda depressing read as Devon spends 95% of the book blaming himself for something he has no control over. Micheal was immediately touchy feely with Devon and calling him honey from there first meeting (even though he didn't know Devon was gay) and their connection didn't feel real to me. I didn't feel any real chemistry between them past casual friends. Also Devon mentions that he bought his parents home but later in the book he says he doesn't know the number of the address, just the street. This doesn't seem realistic IMO. I was hoping for more connection between Devon and Micheal and less blaming himself for Chad's death.
I rated all the stories individually and reviewed some of them, but I wanted to write a general comment of the anthology. I love the concept of a daily story, it's my first year subscribing to the Daily Dose, but I started at Christmas with the Advent Calendar after I realized I was reading the stories anyway so why not have the surprise of a story a day.
The theme for this year Daily Dose was people hurt getting on with their lives... most of the stories weren't downers, but I found the theme not to my liking. Now, once that said, I thought the stories were well written and they were very well chosen to complement the Mended subject.
I do feel a little disappointed that I didn't fall in love often reading the stories like I did with the Advent Calendar or Time is Eternity, but I gave the majority of the stories a 3 stars or more so I still had a lot of fun and would recommend the anthology.
Although I still have four stories to read, I declare this year's Daily Dose as finished. Again it was a mixed bag of stories, some I liked more, some I liked less, a few I didn't like at all. Overall I leave them with a good feeling and I most probably will try next year's offer again.
