Fantastically dark and heartbreaking. I almost cried reading it. What Dimitri had to go through and how he found out everything...
The story did a great job introducing things and getting the story set up for Summoned. Each of the character's personalities shined through and you could get a sense of who they are even though it was such a short read. A must-read especially if you've read Summoned or plan to.

Reviewed for http://theereaderjunkie.wordpress.com

First sentence : “I dislike being interrupted when I’m about to kill someone.”

We’ve already met Dimitri in Summoned that I reviewed at the end of last year. This prequel, that I actually chose to read as a sequel (and I’m glad I did), shows us how Dimitri inherited his father’s bond with the evil Karl.

He didn’t understand what his father did for a living – he never told him and Dimitri never gave it much of a thought. So when at 15, he’s thrown into this brand new world that is a distorted reflection of the one he knew, he’s completely lost.
“I kind of want to disappear in my spot. Or run.
That’s stupid, though. This is Karl. Silvia’s father. Practically an uncle.”

The awakening is brutal, violent, poor Dimitri ! He has no time to adjust, he’s rushed into action and has to adapt to survive because he has no choice. Either he obeys or he dies a painful death.

This story is dark, but as in Summoned, Dimitri’s sense of humor keeps it from being downright gloomy.
“Inside, the bar is dim in more of a we-didn’t-bother-replacing-all-of-the-light-bulbs kind of way instead of a we-welcome vampires kind of way like at the club.”

It’s an original paranormal series I really enjoy following – I do appreciate Dimitri’s dry sense of humor, I simply can’t wait to read what happens to Dimitri next !

Axiom is a great introduction to the full length novel Summoned as it is the prequel to that story. In this novella we find out how Dimitri becomes the genie to Karl Walker in full detail and his struggles with coming to grips with this new way of life.

If you’ve loved Summoned then I say that you will enjoy this read too. It put the pieces of Dimitri’s life that weren’t fully explained in Summoned into place and now his story feels more complete. We see the boy he was and the man he became after he inherited the genie bond. If you haven’t read Summoned then this is a good introduction into the series too.

There is nothing in particular that I disliked about this novella. It was only short and gave you all those extra details you craved about him after finishing Summoned.

Overall, a fantastic introduction into this series and if you’re looking for a new paranormal/urban fantasy series to try then I recommend this to you!

The first novel in this series is the most different book I'd read in a long time, mostly because the protagonist is like no one I've ever read about before. But I had to wonder --- how could his father have raised him for this role? And why does he have a streak of good despite his desperate circumstances? Axiom begins to fill in the gaps but leaves you wanting much more.

Axiom was a great addition to the Summoned series. This prequel novella took us back in time to see just how Dimitri inherited the genie bond and just how much he struggled with it.

Great prequel

This answered some questions about how Dmjtri got started. Good to know. I look forward to finishing the second book and rereading the first one day perhaps.

This is perfect for all fans of the Summoned series. It tells the story of Dimitri Hayes before he became the genie we all know and love. This novella grabs you from the very first line. "I really hate when people interrupt me when I'm trying to kill someone." If that doesn't pull you in, I don't know what will. I also love the fact that while short and sweet, Axiom reads like a full length novel. It sucks you into a world that is complete and feels real. I love when he makes the donation to the girl scouts out of spite. Thin mints for live.

A great prequel story for fans of Summoned. It gives a lot of insight into how Dimitri became the person he is at the beginning of that book, and makes him more sympathetic.

As a prequel to the book Summoned this was a pretty exciting opening and has certainly wet my appetite for the main event.
