This was such an insightful book written from an Orthodox Christian viewpoint. The author talks about the beauty of tending to a pure heart and guarding yourself from the constant temptations of sin. She writes about the importance of dating and gives light and understanding on the more challenging topics, such as sexuality, temptations, and repentance. She gives examples of her own relationship with her husband in hopes to explain to teenagers and young adults that God’s plan is different for each and every individual. Some people get married young while others may not find the right one until their 30s. It takes time and that is the beauty of God’s grace.

This book was so so so good. The author was very easy to read, and she dropped a couple of really crazy pieces of advice. I also appreciated that this book talked about how toxic purity culture can be, and no matter what's happened in the past, you are redeemed through our forgiving God <3

I recommend this book to any older teenager who is on their way to college or moving out on their own. It was so thought provoking and insightful. Her writing style is fun but also informative; she encourages you through her own words, but most importantly the Church Fathers and scripture. 5 stars and a big smile!

This book is a necessary addition to our orthodox libraries as a comprehensive guidebook on singleness, dating, marriage, and everything in between.
This is a must read for servants, as the book contains clear and appropriate guidelines on handling dating conversations with youth, particularly high schoolers.
I liked how thorough this book’s topics were; while reading, I sometimes thought there was a topic or question that wasn’t addressed, only to find it covered in the “Myths” for the closing of each chapter. Her sources are plentiful, so if a section wasn’t in depth enough for the reader, one could do further research.
I pray that many find this book beneficial in choosing and pursuing their paths!

This book is a breath of fresh air for teenagers, young adults, and even older adults who may find themselves dating again after divorce and navigating the dating world in the 21st century as an Orthodox Christian. I would recommend this book as a must for parents of young teens to read, and when their children are old enough, pass it on to them. Lilyan Andrews' wisdom and guidance provides a reality check and an Orthodox perspective to dating, as opposed to the unrealistic and fantastical expectations we are bombarded with through Hollywood, the media, and social media. Lilyan focuses on God's will for us in regards to dating and relationships. Do not let your child go to college without reading this book!

"It’s good to keep in mind that if you find yourself in a dating relationship that has numerous perpetual problems, this could be a sign of a fundamental incompatibility. Hence the more compatible you are, the less you will face perpetual problems in your relationship (even though some problems will still exist)."

"Even when they don’t last, relationships will always help you learn something, and this is part of why I don’t believe there are failed relationships, only relationships that end and relationships that continue. And since relationships are meant to guide you to your spouse, if they bring you to the right person, they succeed. But if they take you away from the wrong person, they also succeed."

This is the first Orthodox book I’ve read that talks more about the dating period than the marriage and I loved it. The book primarily focuses on dating and pre selection period, most advice was more refresher than something new. But it’s everything I’ve been told about dating condensed into one. I love all the sections she talked about her own marriage and other examples of those she knew because I related to that the most.

Recommended for teens-young adults who aren’t brain rot from dating advice. And honestly if I became a parent one day (God willing) I’d read this WITH my kids.☦️

Waiting and Dating is a much needed book specially in our era. It is a thoughtful and insightful guide that explores the Orthodox perspective on dating which is a taboo topic in Coptic Orthodox church.

Lilyan stresses the importance of patience and intentionality, emphasizing that waiting for God’s timing is not a passive experience but it is needed for personal growth, self-awareness, and preparation for a future relationship.

This book offers practical advices as well as the church wisdom for individuals navigating dating. I highly recommend it to parents as well as young adults.

Lilyan Andrews writes a beautiful book that goes in depth to each of her subjects and gives a perfectly clear picture on how the Church wants us to approach dating. Each topic will encourage the reader to put their trust in God’s will and serve as a guide for any future relationships they might have.
