The exciting conclusion to Beyond the Breaking Point...
Max Desalvo is a broken man. Two years ago he gave his heart, soul and body to another man’s wife, Cassidy Brannon. And, he’d thought, his child. They’d made promises, vows. One year. One year for Cassidy to secure her freedom, so they could be together. Unable to be in the same city with Cassidy and not see her, hear her voice, or touch her, Max left. While gone he waited, waited, and waited for the call that never came.
Now he’s returned to Philly, his home. Running into Cassidy was inevitable, but she isn’t the woman he remembers. If he’s broken, she’s shattered. Phillip, her husband, is dead. Why hadn’t Cassidy contacted him once she was free? And why does she gaze at him with eyes full of hurt and mistrust, as though he were the one to break her heart? Max has a choice. Discover the truth of what happened and reclaim the love he’s lost or forever remain…broken.
Zena Wynn is a multi-published author of erotic and sensual romance in various romance subgenres: Interracial, Contemporary, Paranormal, Sci-Fi/Fantasy, and Inspirational. Her heroes and heroines are passionately, lovingly, devoted to each other. Zena wants her characters to stick with readers long after “The End.”
I didn't like any of the church/Catholic/religious inclusion. I didn't like that the religious stuff felt inorganic to this story. It read like the author was going through her own crisis of faith and her obsessions poured over into this book. It didn't fit. I didn't like the whole forgiveness of family theme. I didn't like Cassidy's stupid decision that had so many awful ramifications. I didn't like that I never saw Cassidy be a friend to Erika. It felt like Erika was just there to advise Cassidy like a counselour. I didn't like the overbearing parents who wielded so much power in their grown offsprings' lives. I didn't like the grammatical errors and careless mistakes in here. And I didn't like the pacing that felt like it dragged in places and was overly pedantic, while in others felt rushed and underdeveloped as of the purpose was simply to get the book out. Most authors should never write sequels.
I did like that this book 2 came as part of a bundle, unknown to me at first, when I purchased book 1.
***Revised on 05/6/2014. 1st review was just a little too sarcastic***
When I first saw this book on the bestseller list for Interracial/Multiracial Romance ebooks, I was super-excited. And once I bought it and starting reading all of the delicious drama, I was seriously in my happy place.
But then, once I passed the 50% mark, I started to get a little perturbed..
Why you ask? Because it seemed as if there was a disconnect with the characters, the flow was uneven, and worst of all, it seemed as if the epilogue was non-existent.
BTW, What happened to the freakin' epilogue? If there is going to be another installment, somebody, anybody, please let me know, because this is just not cool.
What should have been a 5 star read has turned into barely a 3 star read (for me)... Yes, I am disappointed in the way that the story turned out, but at least it's not so bad to where I just want to cry.. Oh well...
After Cassidy Brannon was forced into giving her cheating husband Phillip Brannon another chance to repair their marriage, Max DaSalvo was heartbroken. He hoped to hear from Cassidy after a year to see if they could reconcile, not hearing from her he started to self destruct.
Meanwhile Cassidy had suffered a devastating tragedy of her own unbeknownst to Max. When they accidentally meet at a function after two years, Ma, realized that even though he was hurt, he was far from over Cassidy.
Cassidy and Max discovered the betrayal of family that led to their heartbreak, and while Cassidy was apprehensive, Max was determined to win her back, especially after finding out that he was actually Zoe's (her daughter) father. Cassidy and Max finally got their HEA.
This story was very engaging and put the finishing touches on a beautiful romance.
This book was a total let down after reading Beyond the Breaking Point. Too much repetition and recapping of the first book. The constant mention of the Hero's blue eyes grew tiresome. The storyline in this book did not capture my attention like the first book. I've read marriage of convenience plots so many times so nothing stood out in this story. This one didn't do anything for me.
Zena Wynn is a marvelous author! Upon reading Beyond the Breaking Point and its cliff hanger ending, I could not wait to read the sequel, Broken, and Ms. Wynn did not disappoint!
I started Broken and was so enthralled that I could not put it down. At the end of Breaking Point, I was extremely upset with Cassidy for her choice to “stay” with Phillip. When Broken begins Ms. Wynn threw a curve ball with the death of Phillip, the issues with Cassidy and her injury, and the issues with her child. Since I do not like spoilers, I will not give any here.
I definitely did not expect to see Max so broken, as the book is so appropriately titled. While I was intrigued by the familial issues in Breaking Point, the increased familial dynamics of Broken showed me that Ms. Wynn is a master at weaving plots and subplots to keep the reader interested. I never knew where the story was going to go next.
At the end of Breaking Point I wanted to get Cassidy immediately into a counselor’s chair. I was pleased to see that my advice (yes I am now in the story) was taken, and that after all she went through, she got the emotional help she needed, and by the end she is the strong woman I knew was hiding inside.
The development of her relationship with Max, his relationship with Zoe and their relationships with their families was agonizing, as well as refreshing. As I noted with Breaking Point, our upbringing definitely influence our adult lives, but it is always good to see people keep the basic moral foundations and discard the extraneous issues that can stunt their development.
While I understand Ms. Wynn has stated this is the end of the line for Max and Cassidy, I so wish their story could continue; I enjoyed it that much. I would love to see more to the resolution of family issues and the continued development of the new Desalvo nuclear family of Max, Cassidy and Zoe.
Cassidy really blamed Max for something that really wasn't his fault and then held a grudge like an idiot even though she professed her love and married him. It just felt like she just wanted something to be miserable and obsessed over. If she'd never been dumb in the first place and had this asinine deal with Phillip than Max would of never lost two years of his kids life.
I first read this book in early 2015 and I loved it; so much so that I’ve read it three times.
Yes, I loved it that much.
I didn’t realize at the time that it was a second book in a duology, I had mistakenly believed it was a standalone. Luckily for me Ms. Wynn had provided enough backstory of what happened in book one that I was able to enjoy the story and not feel like I was missing any vital information.
In the past, I always used to giggle at girl friends who talked about book boyfriends. I always thought it was cute, but I didn’t really get it.
I don’t giggle now. That’s all because of…. Max. *swoon*
I love this character. I really do. This man loves, and loves hard. Completely. Honestly. Selflessly. With all of himself. And this man loves Cassidy. The time spent without her was heartbreaking for him, but when he finally comes homes and finds out the truth about what kept them apart from Cassidy herself, he works hard to fix what was broken between them and recapture the bond that they had shared.
I liked Cassidy but she got on my nerves quite a bit. She had her own part to play in why things had gone so wrong that I found myself wanting to yell at her for being so stubborn with Max. Woman, this man is a gift from the gods! Grab on to him, don’t play the fool!!!!
The love scenes in “Broken” were sensually descriptive and very romantic.
The story was well-written and very realistic. Regaining someone’s trust and forgiveness is not something that happens overnight. It’s gradual and I really liked how “Broken” depicted that.
I also liked how the author dealt with family, both Cassidy and Max’s. Especially Max’s. There is a scene at the end of the book with Cassidy and Max’s mother that I absolutely loved. Cassidy’s honesty and strength of character was captured so well. It was one of my favorite passages in the book.
The only downside for me.. was the ending. Please don’t get me wrong it wasn’t a bad ending. It was a bit abrupt. I wish we had an epilogue or something. Or a book 3? That’s just wishful thinking on my part… :P
Words cannot express how much I loved “Broken”. I suggest reading “Beyond the Breaking Point” first of course, and then dive into its beautiful conclusion! :)
I liked this book a bit better than the first one. Where the first book sorta treads the line of being closer to women's fiction, this book was a more conventional, more emotional romance. It was all Cassidy and Max working through their issues and misunderstandings without the additional plot elements of the adultery/divorce etc. that was the engine that drove the first book. As a result it felt more intimate and I felt like I could concentrate on just them more.
There were some great revelation scenes, some great confrontation scenes and really just nice moments of deeper character involvement.
I really enjoyed this book! The storyline was excellent and it was very well written. Zena Wynn is an excellent writer. I wish she would extend Max and Cassidy’s story. I’d really like more of them. I almost feel as though they are my friends instead of characters in a story. If you are ever at a lost for something to write about, consider extending their story.
This was a good conclusion to Max and Cassidy story. I enjoyed it, but it does seem as though something was missing. I think Nicco could use a story. I recommend reading both books in this sequel. I do enjoy Ms. Wynn's writing. Looking forward to her next book.
I feel like this book ended to abruptly Why don’t we know more about whether or not his the mom has a change of heart We’re there more children? I would’ve be very willing to pay for another sequel
3.5 stars. Okay, This book was to fast reading. His Family, Wow seriously. So much hurt, how they were world apart by the way they were treated. But overall it was a great book. Kudos.
