She spent the formative years of her life in her maternal grandfather’s home whose name she uses as her pen name. As an avid reader and an inveterate traveler, she has traveled the length and the breadth of the country for fun and sometimes for studies plus work. Taciturn in real life, she writes the same way, sparing her readers, the strain of unnecessary words. She is a Doctorate in Biochemistry, now diving into GST headlong; for her writing turned up as a mischievous idea during the empty days of lockdown. At present, she is posted in Indore as a Taxation & Law Enforcement Officer with the Government of Madhya Pradesh. Also, the book is available in both paperback as well as in e-book format and the readers can find this learning worthy title on all the top online marketplaces.

At the heart of this title, “Devil In Details” is an absorbing murder mystery that keeps the readers guessing from the very beginning. The plot opens with a woman falling off a hotel balcony in broad daylight, a harrowing scene witnessed by countless onlookers. But this is just the first in a series of bizarre, tragic accidents — a series that feels too orchestrated to be mere coincidence. As the bodies pile up, so do the questions, the book takes the readers through a maze of clues, red herrings, and unexpected revelations. Throughout the novel, author Shweta Chauhan explores the various motivations behind the acts of violence and the betrayal that drive the plot. The theme of free will versus destiny is woven into the story in subtle ways, making the readers question whether the characters are truly in control of their actions or merely pawns in a larger, more sinister game. The exploration of sin — its nature, its causes and its consequences is a thread that runs through the book, giving it a philosophical edge that sets it apart from more conventional thrillers!

Further, the characters in this title are brilliantly developed, as each of them adds a distinct flavour to the story. Parijat and Deepika, the duo at the centre of the investigation, are not just detectives; they are deeply human, filled with their own flaws and vulnerabilities. Their malleability and talkativeness, qualities that set them apart from traditional sleuths, make them more relatable and accessible to readers. Author Chauhan cleverly uses these traits as tools in their investigative arsenal, allowing them to navigate the dangerous world they’ve infiltrated with a combination of charm and intuition.

One of the Notable Strengths of this title, “Devil In Details” is its pacing. Author Shweta Chauhan keeps the story moving at a breakneck speed, with the tension ramping up steadily throughout. Yet, even with its fast pace, the book never sacrifices the depth of its plot or characters. Each scene is filled with rich details and subtle hints that reward close reading. The twists and turns that Chauhan expertly plants along the way ensure that readers will be kept guessing right up until the final, shocking revelation. In addition, author’s narrative technique makes excellent use of foreshadowing and misdirection, constantly giving the readers clues that seem to point in one direction, only to have the truth turn out to be something entirely different. Every time you think you have solved the mystery, another layer is uncovered, leading you deeper into the intricacies of the case. This keeps the suspense palpable and the reading experience exciting!

Now, upon reaching the final part of the review, i.e. the Book Verdict, we can conclude that a title like “Devil In Details” is for sure a MUST READ one. The book deserves a chance by the readers as the author has crafted an exceptional murder mystery that combines suspense, psychological depth and philosophical musings on human nature. Fans of gripping, mind-bending mysteries will find themselves hooked from the very first page, as author Shweta Chauhan deftly pulls them into a world of secrets, lies and hidden motives. With its fast-paced narrative, well-developed characters, and shocking twists, “Devil In Details” is most certainly a reading worthy title for anyone who loves crime thrillers that challenge the mind and stir the soul.

On top of that author Chauhan does not just end the book with a shocking revelation, though. She leaves the readers with lingering questions about the nature of truth, justice and the human condition, making this title a thought-provoking read as well as an entertaining one!

Additionally, the titles of each chapter provide hints about what’s to come, which is a nice touch!

A Haunting Plot with Twists
“Devil In Details” is a mystery that keeps readers guessing from the very first page. The story begins with a shocking scene: a woman falling from a hotel balcony in broad daylight, an event that witnesses can hardly believe. But this incident is only the start, as more bizarre and tragic accidents follow, making it clear that something far more sinister is at play. Chauhan expertly leads readers through a maze of clues, misdirections, and unexpected revelations, making it impossible to predict where the story is headed. The themes of destiny versus free will, alongside an examination of sin and its consequences, give the novel a philosophical depth that elevates it above standard thrillers.

Complex and Relatable Characters
The characters in the story are brilliantly crafted, particularly the investigative duo Parijat and Deepika. Unlike traditional detectives, they are ordinary women who rely on their natural ability to charm people and gather crucial information. Author Shweta Chauhan cleverly uses their flaws and vulnerabilities, making them more relatable to readers. As they navigate a world filled with danger and deceit, they use their wit and intuition to solve the case, showing that sometimes the most powerful tools are not physical strength or professional skills, but the ability to understand human nature.

Fast-Paced with Unpredictable Twists
One of the best parts of “Devil In Details” is how well the story moves along. Shweta Chauhan keeps the plot going quickly without losing the depth of the story. She smartly uses hints and surprises, so readers are always guessing, even if they’re used to thrillers. Chauhan pays close attention to every detail, making sure each scene has clues that reward readers who follow carefully. Just when you think you’ve figured everything out, a new twist changes the story, keeping the suspense alive until the very end. In the early chapters, Chauhan also does a great job showing the recent Kolkata case, including the sad death of a young doctor. The way she describes the tough times doctors go through during strikes makes it feel like you’re watching a live news report.

A Philosophical Edge to Crime Fiction
What sets Devil In Details apart from other murder mysteries is its exploration of deeper philosophical themes. Shweta Chauhan doesn’t just focus on solving a crime; she delves into the motivations behind human actions, especially when it comes to betrayal and violence. The novel examines how free will and destiny intertwine in the characters’ decisions, leaving readers to ponder whether the characters are in control of their own fates. This philosophical depth, paired with the suspense, makes Devil In Details a thought-provoking read that lingers in the mind long after the story ends.

Verdict: A Must-Read for Thriller Lovers
In conclusion, “Devil In Details” is an exceptional thriller that combines suspense with psychological and philosophical depth. Shweta Chauhan has crafted a novel that is not only entertaining but also challenges readers to think deeply about human nature, truth, and justice. With its fast-paced narrative, intricate plot twists, and well-developed characters, this book is a must-read for fans of crime thrillers that leave you thinking long after the final page is turned. The lingering questions it raises about the nature of truth and justice make it a powerful and unforgettable read.

Pleasantly surprised by how much I loved reading this novel. The pacing and plot was impeccable. Shweta's writing was easy to get into and the characters were also surprisingly relatable. If this is the quality of Indian English mystery thrillers I cannot wait to read more of such good ones. Definitely worth a try. Finished it in 2 sittings.
