Retrospect - The Reckoning of Mac Scott (Book 3) A sapphic romance thriller.
MCKENNA SCOTT IS RENEWED. REAWAKENED, REVIVED, BUT CERTAINLY NOT OUT OF HER MISERY.
After two years missing, Mac Scott embarked on a quest to solve the mystery of her own disappearance, and bring down those who hunt her. And she did. Jakub and his men were destroyed, as were all the demons that bound her when she sent that godforsaken boat down to the bottom of the sea.
But as one battle ended, another began.
Agent Scott survived the reconditioning and in doing so, solidified her place by her father’s side as a member of The Culling. She infiltrated the group, but can she infiltrate Barrett’s trust fast enough to liberate the country from the clutches of The Culling, and the imminent threat they pose? She has the backing of MI5 and her team but this time, it’s personal. This time, she has more to lose than she ever has.
Because she knows who her heart beats for. The question is, can she keep it beating?
Mac thought she was free of the past that bound her. She thought she had unlocked all the secrets in her mind. But as the end draws nearer, it soon becomes clear that her memories have been hiding the biggest secret of all. And soon, the fate of those she loves, and the world depend on her remembering, one last time.
Escape was just the beginning. Her training is over, war has begun.
Mac Scott survived the horrendous reconditioning process she was subjected to after investigating her own disappearance. While she has managed to partly get into The Culling at her father’s side, she hasn’t quite managed to liberate the country from their hold. The Culling are a threat, and there is too much to lose, especially for Mac.
It was so great to finally find out what happens in the final part of Mac’s story. We have been on quite an adventure with her. Endured missions and terrifying situations, horrendous procedures and dangerous spaces, so to be able to join her for one last, big and important mission was exciting, thrilling, and a little bit scary. When I think about all Mac has been through and she was still struggling with piecing some of it together, I just had to will her through all of this. I knew she had determination, and I love her strength. Most people probably could not withstand all she has gone through and come out the other side still desperate to save innocent people and stop terrible and evil things from happening.
This time, Mac was really showing us her smarts. She had to play the game, keep her mind focused, trust no one but make them think she did, and she did all of that brilliantly. The problem with the type of people she was up against is, they are clever too, and they gave her extra obstacles and challenges this time. Some were more emotional than others, but never once did Mac falter in making sure the right people were in line to be punished and have justice done for the crimes they committed. All this while worrying about everyone she loved and keeping them safe.
Absolutely brilliant end to the series. Really engaging and kept me hooked through each and every chapter. It is such an imaginative story, and yet so real in what is portrayed. I feel a lot of empathy for Mac and hope now she can have some piece and settle with her love.
spent the last year waiting for this book and then read 90% of it within 24 hours, and like all good books do, i felt incredibly nauseous whilst reading this book because i just needed anna and mac to be happy
Finally, we draw to the close of Mac’s story. But if that sounds like I’m glad to be coming to the end, I’m really not! Prepare yourself for more murder and mayhem as Mac has to live a double life as a loyal member of The Culling and an M15 agent set on bringing them down. There is again lots of angst and hurdles to overcome but whilst love is on the back burner, it’s the reason that Mac has to fight. And not just love for her partner, but for all those she has become close to. Whilst previous storytelling has all been from Mac’s perspective, here we get insights into some of those close to her - Alfred, Dixy and Anna all get to add their own viewpoints. Things build to a proper ‘showdown’ conclusion which not everyone survives…so expect to be genuinely moved by the losses Mac has to add to her canon of guilt and loss. But it’s not all doom and gloom…it’s properly thrilling in exactly the right way and my only real devastation is that it’s over!
I have not so patiently waited for the final instalment of Macs story and I can tell you wholeheartedly it was worth it. As with the previous instalments there are twists and turns and the build up of suspense and anticipation which will have you both wanting to look away and continue reading in the same breath. I spent most of this book wishing I could read faster, not wanting it to end and also not being sure if I could take the anticipation of what was going to happen next.
I could write more about the powerhouse of the main character and the brilliantly written supporting cast but I think by this point you should stop reading reviews and start reading!
Yes, this book is worth the weight in gold and worth the wait. This book has it all. It takes you through the all your emotions. You feel like your apart of this dysfunctional family that has come together to help save the country with a few more characters that help around it out. You just can't put this book down until the end and then you are still wanting more. It's a wonderful story that would be a great movie.
Mac Scott, the woman you are! One of my favourite and most badass characters I've ever read. ❤️ She deserves the world. Loved this whole trilogy, and I really hope the author writes more as would love to check them out!

Definitely some twists here that I did not see coming! It's been a fun week tearing through these books - now I'm going to miss these characters who I've gotten so attached to.
