Red is part of the Sisterhood, and by rights she should be the leader, but she's not instead the dubious Lilith is the Head of the Sisterhood. After more girls going missing and her best-friend is murdered Red refuses to follow the rules, and dares to leave the village and heads into the woods ready to hunt down the were she thinks is to blame. What she doesn't realise her journey will firstly, reveals a web of lies and secrets, and secondly bring her to Prince Adrian, leader of the Weres.
They're brought together by hate, secrets, lies and a common destiny, but will these same things keep them apart?
Some good worldbuilding, I do see myself reading more in this series. I just wanted more sizzle and spark between the main characters.
I received this book from Rebekah Ganiere and “Paranormal Romance & Authors That Rock” in exchange for an honest review.
Red the Were Hunter is the first book in a series but does not end on a cliffhanger, per se. This book follows Redlynn on her were hunting journey. Along the way she finds answers to questions she didn’t even know existed, and she also finds mysteries that aren’t necessarily a bad thing. She is tough as nails, and innocent to a fault.
This was a quick read that had a good set pace. It had action scenes that were a bit gory, but not too over the top. The storyline was intriguing, but was lacking in execution. I found myself confused about Red’s character. She was very untrusting and skeptical, but would trust a complete stranger in the next moment.
I was disappointed with the whole insta-love connection. It could have been so much more developed. They meet for the first time, they fall in love, and that’s the end of it. There was hardly any dialogue between the two, but they knew they were soul mates.
Adrian was the head of his pack, but there were no real alpha qualities that I felt came out in the story. I also didn’t feel that the epilogue went with the flow of the book. It was almost like it was added as a second thought to open up an angle for the next book in the series to follow. Vampires could have added so much to the storyline, but it was as though they were just stuck in the story randomly.
I wanted to love this book, but in the end, I just felt “meh” about it. Don’t get me wrong, I didn’t hate it, but I also wasn’t biting my nails, as I turned the pages, wanting to find out what happens next. 3 fangs for this were hunter’s story.
LOVED IT! I haven't read a red riding hood retelling before so this might be a little biased. The only thing I'm somewhat disappointed at was the sex scene. Yes, the sex scene. I expected it to be more detailed than what it was. I mean, it is an adult paranormal romance right? I did enjoy all the action and the mystery behind the Sister's disappearance. I liked that Adrian wasn't overly possessive and dominant. He was that sweet teddy bear alpha. I especially liked that it had a happily ever after! oh and that twist at the end when they finally figure out who it was that was causing all the problems! I couldn't believe it! D; Can't wait to read the other books in the series. Totally recommend this book to everyone!
Vampires, and Werewolves, and female slayers oh my! :)
This was definitely a different retelling of little red riding hood. I loved all the other paranormal aspects tied in. Vampires. Mages. Nereid. Demons.
The best part had to be the Sisterhood of Red. Most PNR is all about the hot alpha guy....which we all love. But the damsel in distress gets old....in this book there was no damsel. Red was a bad ass!
My Thoughts - 4 out of 5 Unicorns - I really liked it!!! ***Received a copy of the ebook for an honest review, but I am buying it as soon as I get paid :)
The cover is subdued, but intriguing all at the same time.
This is the first book I’ve read by Rebekah, and I’m definitely going to be reading more in the future especially in this series that I’m now hooked on :) Rebekah builds a wonderful world full of intrigue, prophesies, and in need of healing. I love the undercurrent of the fairytale Little Red Riding Hood! And I see the same undercurrent is probably in book 2 as well :)
When I first started reading the book, I was disconnected. I’m not sure if it was just getting to know the new author’s style or building the new world. This happens for me sometimes, but I’m definitely quite taken with this series and plan to read more. Red is this amazingly strong woman, but she has blinders on so to speak. She is definitely stubborn and so much so I was yelling at her in my mind while I was reading several times. Adrian is sexy and just as stubborn but haunted by his family’s past misdeeds. By the end, I was totally on Red and Adrian’s side, and I hope I will see more of them in the series because I become attached to my characters and like to see them in the rest of the series even though I know they will not be the focus of the book :) I’m going to have to get my hands on book 2 very soon :)
I recommend this book to paranormal fans of shifters and vampires and to anyone who loves to see new stories evolve from very old fairytales :)
How much did I love Red the Were Hunter by Rebekah Ganiere? Well, let’s see. We’ve got a tough as nails heroine who has lost everyone she loves and is bent on killing the werewolves that not only stole innocent girls from the village she’s sworn to protect, but murdered her BFF. Red totes a sword and a bow. Awesome. I loved that it’s the women (the Sisterhood) who are the warriors of the village. Girl power!
While on her quest for vengeance, Red unwittingly treads the path of self-discovery. A little bit of werewolf trouble takes her straight into the reluctant arms of lonely, brooding Adrian - who just happens to be the up-and-coming King of the Weres. Talk about conflict. No spoilers here! Red the Were Hunter included some surprises I didn’t see coming, fights and a charming sidekick, souls longing for love, magic and betrayal . . . it fed my love for fairy tales, romance, and action, all braided together in a sweet story of acceptance, true love, and destinies fulfilled.
I loved this unique and action-packed take on the story of Little Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf.
In this version, Red is not a helpless little girl carrying goodies through the woods; she is a badass Sister bent on hunting the wolves who have been kidnapping and murdering other young Sisters from her village. However, things are not all what they seem as both Red and Adrian hold pieces of the truth about who is taking the girls and why. The romance was a bit floppy for me at times, but I enjoyed the story and lore overall and will be continuing in the series!
A thousand years ago Fairelle was a prosperous kingdom ruled by one king. When the king's sons decided that they each wanted to take over the throne upon their father's death, they called upon demons to grant them one wish, only the demons twisted the wishes to suit themselves. One son wished to be forever bloodthirsty in battle and wound up a vampire, one wished to have unending loyalty from his men and he became a werewolf, then one became a fae and one a Neriad. The fae wanted to be a manipulator of the earth and the Neriad wanted to rule the seas. Before long Fairelle became a wasteland and each faction warred with each other.
The only thing that can heal and unite the lands of Fairelle is the fulfillment of nine prophesies, and this book is the first. Twenty-four year old Radlynn Mactire Fola lives in a small village called Volkzene and she is a member of the Sisterhood of Red. The Sisterhood protects the village from the werewolves and it is led by Lillith. Girls have been missing from the village and there is no doubt in Redlynn's mind that they were taken by the werewolves. The night her best friend is killed she breaks the rules and leaves the village to hunt down and kill the Were King. Although entering the woods is forbidden she cannot rest until she destroys the one responsible for the disappearances of the girls. She is a Were Hunter and it is time she picked up her sword and bow and did what she should.
The trip into the woods will change everything that Redlynn ever believed to be true. Are the werewolves the real enemy? Are there worse creatures roaming the woods? Attacked by a wolf she is injured and finds herself waking up in a strange bed. She is in the castle of Adrian who unbeknownst to her is the prince of the werewolves. He is the alpha and his pack are not the ones responsible for the missing girls, in fact they have always looked after the Sisters. The attraction between Redlynn and Adrian is extremely strong, but he is not looking to get involved with anyone even if she may be the one for him.
What does he do when he discovers that she may be the one to fulfill the prophesy, will he succumb to his feelings for her or just try to stay away. If she is indeed the one they have been waiting for it would require him to make her is mate and he would then become king, something he has refused to do. There is a history of betrayal between his mother and father that caused the Sisterhood to turn against the werewolves and he doesn't want to become his father.
The book is full of surprises, secrets, lies, betrayals and romance. Redlynn is a wonderful character she is stubborn, loyal and courageous and has to come to terms with some things about her life she never could have expected. Adrian has to come to grips with what happened with his mother and father and find the courage to do what he has to for his people. I read this book in one day because I couldn't wait to find out what would happen with Redlynn and Adrian. Although this is a series it is not a cliffhanger, the story is finished and you know there is more to come.
We also meet Sage, a vampire prince whose father has been exiled and who works along with the wolves to fulfill the prophesy and find the missing girls. His story is next and I can't wait.

This was my first book to read by Rebekah Ganiere and it will not be my last! Rebekah had me pulled in right from the beginning and wrote in the style that I love. When I am able to see the story unfold in my mind like a movie I know I am hooked! Rebekah describes all the characters and the surroundings so that I was able to get the perfect visual of what I was reading. This alone will get 5 stars in my book!
The story is about a girl named Redlynn and takes place in the year 1200 AD. She is part of the Sisterhood of the Red and they are the protectors of a village in Volkzene, Fairelle. The sister’s are sworn to protect the villagers from the Were. The girls are raised and trained their whole life to become a sister of the sisterhood. Red was always treated differently from the rest of the girls no one would ever look her in the eyes and avoided her at all cost even though she was the best of the sisterhood. One night when she was not on patrol it was claimed that two were’s entered the village and killed a guard and took a little girl. This was not the first little girl to be kidnapped. The village blamed the killing and kidnapping on Redlynn because she left Anya her best friend on duty alone. Redlynn decides to go into the forest where they are forbidden to go to hunt down and kill the Were’s responsible and to kill the Were king. She packs a bag with supplies and clothes, she also grabs her bow and arrows, sword and cloak then leaves the village on her quest. Lilith the head of the order tells Redlynn if she leaves she will be banned from returning back into the sisterhood. This does not stop Redlynn she is hell bent on killing those responsible for killing her best friend and taking little girls from the village.
Redlynn comes face to face with a small pack of Were and the is a fight, she is injured and knocked unconscious. When the leader of the pack Adrian arrives to the location of the fight he shifts into human form and takes her back to his castle to bring her to his healer. His pack has been sworn to protect the humans from the bloodsuckers and he is not going to leave her there to die. He has the strangest connection to her that he can’t explain. When back at the castle he asked the other men if they smell on her what he does… they all say no she just smells like a human. This has Adrian perplexed and is having a hard time staying away from her and to fight the urge to attack any of his pack that gets near her. As she heals and gets better things become clearer to Adrian and his closest pack mates. Redlynn is mean to me Adrian’s mate!
I will leave my review at this point because I do not what to tell anything more and divulge any spoilers. But I can say this… If you like reading paranormal books about Were’s or have even read the story of Little Red Ridinghood this is a good choice for the adult version lol! This is not in any way an erotic romance, any romantic scenes are written with good taste. This book is the first in a series and it does not leave you hanging at the end but it does make you want to read the next book! Thank you Rebekah for the wonderful experience of reading your book, I look forward to reading all of the books that are still inside of your head waiting to land on paper.
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
The first book I read in this series was Cinder the Fae[Cinder the Fae]. Starting from the beginning was fantastic. While I had fully understood Cinder the Fae, reading book one in the Fairelle series has given me extra understanding. In this book I learned a lot more about the prophecies as well as Dax (who plays a prominent secondary role in Cinder as well). So far, he is one giant mystery and I can't wait to learn more about him. Having already read Cinder gave me a bit better insight as to who (and possibly what) Lilith is, but I won't get into that (you'll just have to keep reading and find out for yourself). I really enjoy how Rebekah R. Ganiere[Ganiere] has put a spin on this fairy tale. It is vastly different from Little Red Riding Hood, but you can see parts of the original story peaking through on occasion. This is definitely the big girl's version of the story, and an excellent one at that. Redlynn and Adrian make a cute (and powerful) couple. Redlynn has never fit in in Volkzene and has never understood why. Regardless of being an outcast, she has vowed to protect the people in her village. Which is what leads her to leave in the first place. In Wolvenglen she finally feels like she belongs, like she's come home, but she has no idea why. Adrian is the prince of the wolves and avoiding becoming king at all costs. He does not want a mate, has not been looking for a mate, when he meets Redlynn. He doesn't want to feel what he feels for her. He knows that if he gives into it, he'll have to step up and take his place as king. I loved the characters in this book. Redlynn is strong, independent, and defiant. Adrian is compassionate, stubborn, and hiding from duty. This book follows Red's self discovery as the world as she knows it is tipped upside down. I really enjoyed watching this first prophecy get fulfilled (and I can't wait to see where Sage comes in in future books). One of my favorite parts, quite possibly, is closer to the end when Red is forced to appear in front of Volkzene's council to determine her banishment and the show of strength and solidarity we see from the girls. It's touching and where I think things really turn around for Volkzene and its people. The book has a HEA ending with no cliffhanger. It could easily be read as a stand alone, but personally, I cannot wait to start Snow the Vampire Slayer!
There was a lot to like in this story. In many retellings, Red has always been part of the “in” crowd. In some ways that’s the case here but in many ways it isn’t. The idea of a prophecy being entrenched in the tale was intriguing. There were some unexpected twists, lots of secrets, conflicts, and as fairytales go- certainly Disney style ones- the absence of a parent. This was a quick read that holds your interest throughout.
Redlynn, wakes up to find her village has been attacked by weres. Her best friend dead. Now she has no one left. She vows to hunt down and kill the Were king to avenge her best friends death and bring the kidnapped girls back home. She sets off into the forest, against the Head Sisters orders. What she finds in the forest is unexpected to say the least. After being attacked, she is rescued and taken to a castle to heal. She's never felt more at home and safe even though the people helping her seem to be hiding something. There is more hidden in the forest then Red knows. Red fights to figure out who to trust and how to save the missing girls of her order, but does she have to choose between what her heart long for and what she knows she must do?
It might be no surprise but I love alternate takes on fairy tales. As I read the prolog I immediately loved the twist on the classic story. I was hooked. I really enjoyed this book. The character development was great, each character had their own voice, and own personality. The details were great, and I found it really easy to imagine what Red's world looked like. This was a beautifully crafted story that I think everyone will love! There were so many tiny details in this book that connects it with the original story, it just makes it that much deeper and symbolic. I loved the line "What beautiful eyes you have" it was one of my favorite scenes, because it pulled the classic fairytale and this new take together even more. I can not wait to read the next installment of this series.
LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!! This book captured my attention right from the beginning, and pretty soon I was 1 hour in, and had no idea of the time! There is no secret that I love supe books, but this one had a whole bunch of mythology and back stories and good old heroics.
Redlynn is the descendent of the Sisterhood of the Red, which her mother and grandmother were a part of. When the last of her loved ones is murdered by the were's, Red leaves the town and her job as a Sisterhood guard to hunt down the King of the Weres and make him pay for the slaughter of innocent women. She is an alpha kick arse fighter with a sword and a bow, and takes no mercy!!!!! When she meets Adrian, who is unknown to her the descendent to the throne of Wolvenglen, there is an instant connection. Unbeknownst to Red, but she bares the mark of the one who will bring peace to the land, and when Adrian sees this he knows that he is destined to be with this woman, even if it is the last thing he wants to do.
I really loved this book! This is a super short review becasue I do not want to give much away, just know that this is a quick paced, fun, sexy journey that I could not put down, so follow the link and take a chance and buy this book!!!
Rebekah is a new to me author and as such it took it me a while to get into the story - I quickly came to appreciate her writing style and got to grips with Fairelle, the "world" in which the story takes place.
After that I was hooked! I needed to know what happened next and read the book in almost one sitting.
Fairelle is beautifully described and I got a real sense of place from the descriptions, whether the village where Redlynn was something of an outcast, the castle where Adrian and the wolves lived, Wolvenglen forest or the ruins.
The action scenes are well written too and add impetus to the story.
The characters are rounded and their pasts (which have made them who they are and influence their behaviour)are well described. Their attitudes are understandable...Adrian, the reluctant King and Redlynn the were hater...although I did want to shake her a few times and make her listen to reason!
All in all a thoroughly enjoyable book and I'm looking forward to reading book 2.
I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.
Red is a guardian of her village against the Weres that live in the forest, but when girls continue to go missing and death claims her best friend, Red decides to take the fight to forest and secrets are revealed that hold the key to her happiness and saving the lives the innocents of her village.
My only complaint: I wish there had been more thorough proof reading. The spelling, grammar, and typographical errors slow down the pace of the read and become irritating. But that didn't stop me from becoming engaged in the story, so I'm definitely hooked, and I look forward to reading Snow the Vampire Slayer and Zelle and the Tower and all the rest of the series.
I want to first say OMG! I loved this book from the first chapter! The story starts off with a bang, and it doesn't stop. The story is play on Little Red Riding Hood, but that so doesn't do it justice. The story is incredibly well written, and I'm in love with Red! I love that she was a no nonsense woman, and was tough as nails. I also loved the world this is set in. This is an urban fiction story, not a romance novel. Don't get me wrong, there is romance, and it's great!, but it fits in better in urban fiction in my mind. What an excellent start to a very different series. I haven't read anything else like this! I will be one clicking the rest of this series without a doubt! ** I was gifted a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review**
Rebekah Ganiere gave me an advance reader copy for an honest review. I love how the story opened with so much action and emotion right from the start. I felt Redlynn’s inner turmoil and anguish and was immediately pulled into the story, a character with loyalty and regrets that needed to be dealt with. The story never slowed down! The emotional roller coaster that Redlynn experienced is well written with humor, action, anguish, mysteries, and a life changing romantic desire that kept me reading until the very end. There’s so much more, but you’ll have to read the story to find out. I’m looking forward to the next book in this continuing saga!
This is going to be a very interesting series and I cannot wait to read more of these books. This book was excitement from the first page. It takes you on a ride of ups and downs and you are just in shock with the things that you discover along the way. You will not want to put this down the moment you pick it up.
Come and enjoy this with me and see if you can discover a new love.
Loved it! I couldn't put the book down once I started it. I was intrigued with how it started and it just kept getting better. The interaction between all the characters leaves you guessing until the end.
I love fairy tales - from Cinderella to The Frog Prince. There is just something about them that screams to the softer side of my youth... and seeing them adapted to an adult view in modern literature is fascinating!
This one kicks off a fairytale series with the retelling of Little Red Riding Hood, imbuing her with a history of HUNTING the big, bad, wolf - while shadowing the entire narrative with prophecy and intrigue. It's fairly well done and gives us the HEA we crave when faced with these two very different personalities. I will admit, however, that the emotional aspect seemed to smack out of nowhere, or rather, the realization of it. I suppose Fairytales are fairytales, even in a retelling.
Pros:
~Fairytale! ~Love Little Red Riding Hood. ~The concept behind the world is intriguing. ~Sage... not sure why I like that vampire so much. ~Foreshadowing.
Cons:
~Little too on the nose at some points. ~Emotional revelation is rather sudden. ~There are somethings that need more explanation.

A beginning of a new series…nine prophecies were foretold about the land of Fairelle. The first one to be fulfilled is with the werewolves. Redlynn, or Red lives in a village where the Sisterhood lives to protect the villagers from the wolves. At present, five females have been taken by the wolves and one left dead. Red is out for vengeance, but the lead Sister Lilith forbade her to enter the woods or be banished. She does not listen and heads out. She knows the Sisterhood is not like it used to be. They used to go hunting each night killing off werewolves but they do not do that anymore and their numbers are dwindling. Once she leaves she discovers the wolves. She manages to kill and injure two of them. She is severely injured as well. She awakens to find herself at a castle with a man named Aiden. He is taken by her beauty. They resist the attraction for one another. They all know who she is but she does not know who they are. She has the birthmark foretold about in the prophecy. When she discovers his secret what will she do? Will he lose her? What of the missing women? It cannot be the wolves so who is it? What is the prophecy and will it be fulfilled? Please come along for a new series that will hold and keep your attention. It is action packed and a fast-paced read~ Rebekah Ganiere has outdone herself once again! I am on to the next book in the series for I want to discover what each curse is and how it affects everyone!
WOW. WOW. WOW. Where do I even start about this creative and beautiful take on the Red Riding Hood fairy tale? The characters are the obvious and perfect choice. Redlynn is strong, kick-ass, and boldly brave, but most of all, willing to take a chance on the things that frighten her the most--like believing in destined love. Adrian is her perfect match--I mean, I was all-in at PRINCE, but this male and his gorgeous way of loving on his mate!--and had me highlighting sooo many love scene passages. Honest to freaking EFF, the swoon factor of this amazing shifter! I am normally not a high fantasy girl, but am SO IN for the continuation of Fairelle. Ms. Ganiere's ability to build this layered, lush world, without overloading a reader on confusing details, is a real gift for a fantasy writer. To make things even better, she leans heavily into the ache and emotions of discovering one's true love, but having to fight it for reasons both internal and external. Her characters are complex but relatable, broken but beautiful--and thoroughly addicting. If you're looking for incredible romance, breath-stealing suspense, and a world that's as lush and colorful as this book's stunning cover, Fairelle MUST be your next go-to read.
Redlyn lives in a village where she does not fit it. She belongs to the Sisterhood which used to hunt the Were, but now merely acts as village guard. Since Lilith began leader she does not allow them to go into the woods. Young girls are being stolen from the village and Red decides to break the rules and find them.
When Red is attacked by Were’s she awakens to find herself in Wolvenglen castle, well-cared for, and fitting in better than she ever did in her village. She is eager to continue her mission, but must heal.
Adrian is the strongest Were, but will only become King if he mates – which he has no intention of doing. Red has him rethinking that decision as she bears the mark of a prophecy which can save his pack.
We know vampires have the girls, and we suspect there is a traitor in the pack, and perhaps in the village. We know Adrian is a wolf which Red wants to kill – even as she develops feelings for the man. Delightfully complex, with twists and turns leaving the reader compelled to make it to “the end”. Great read!
I think this is a first book for me by this author. I liked how she took a fairytale and twisted it into her own story. It has a couple of different plot layers happen to lead to the overall storyline. I liked that too and am very interested to see how they all weave together. This one is spun from Red Riding Hood (the idea) and wolves have a whole different meaning in this story. Loved that. Overall it's a good book. There were a few character quirks I didn't like about Redlynn towards the end of the book so I gave it 4 stars. If a character is tough, decisive and independent throughout the boom then don't make them doubtful and "weak" in spirit at the end. I just like to see characters hold true to their personality throughout a series. It's my own quirk I guess.
This first book in the Fairelle Series by Rebekah R Ganiere was an entertaining thrill ride of adventure as Redlynn of the Sisterhood of Red seeking vengeance learns startling new truths, a fairytale romance involving a fated mate, and the key to an ancient old prophecy instead. Red must put her faith in those she has been taught to fear and destroy in order to survive. The story moves along at a rather brisk pace before all the relevant details are revealed to the reader. The characters are clearly defined as good vs bad either directly or through indirect hints, leaving the reader to discover what events play out and how which is the entertaining part of the read. I am looking forward to reading what happens in the next chapter in the Fairelle World. This is a voluntary review of a review copy of this book from StoryOrigin.
Feeling surprised with how much I liked this. The story was good and felt like it was well planned out for future books. For a romance there was reasonable/understandable conflict versus the miscommunication trope or abuse turned love story. The vampires were actually scary and not whatever twilight is. The heroine wasn’t a damsel in distress or the whole virgin I’ve never thought of my vagina before that you get in a lot of this genre. She was a badass that you were rooting for the whole time. There was a couple things in the story that happened that I didn’t expect and really appreciated the twist. I really enjoyed this and it felt like it was written for adults and not a YA turned adult fiction. It’s definitely worth picking up.
This is book one of the Fairelle series of fairytale retellings, and I LOVED it - so much so that I treated myself to the whole series! A magical retelling of Red Riding Hood, I'm not going to spoil it by telling you what happens - I HATE spoilers and you can get a good preview in the blurb at the top of the page - but I will just say that if you like your stories with tension, drama, fairytale characters seen in a whole new way (including kicka$$ women who don't need a Prince to rescue them!), a bit of love and sprinkling of magic, this book (and series!) is definitely one for you! I loved it, and can't wait to read the next one!
Red the Were Hunter is an interesting twist on a classic fairytale. Red is part of the Sisterhood, sworn to protect their village against weres. The wolves are sworn to protect the humans. The vampires are in it for themselves. Red is a somewhat strong heroine, but a bit whishy-washy. Adrain is the Alpha wolf that is destined to mate with Red. Their relationship is okay, but could use a little more chemistry. Some of it came of feeling a little flat. Overall, it's a nice, quick, easy read that doesn't end in a cliffhanger although does continue in a series. If you like that sort of twist on a classic fairytale then I would recommend it.
