Intimidation is what Monroe does best for the pack of pirates he calls brothers. And after all…somebody has to get married to unlock the family trust.

Sadie's sisters are furious. They're sure that everything they love is about to be stolen from them by Beaumonts. But Sadie's the one who actually has to live with one of them. this had so much potential, but I was so put off by some of the dialogue in this book. having the MMC, monroe, ask “shouldn’t there be some people with questionable work visas picking these grapes for us?” and having the FMC refer to someone’s mouth as looking like an anxious anus was about enough for me. genuinely off putting, i’m disappointed by that visa line, it was so unnecessary. why not 'why aren't there more workers here?' why single out (implied) immigrents with 'questionable' visas? that's just blatant racism right there. but THEN they also joke about having amazing sex infront of her dad, and another character finds herself inspired by elon musk. 🤢

the mmc very early on also has thoughts about how the fmc “is nothing special” but her sisters are really hot??

don’t get me wrong, i love a marriage of convenience and this had some sweet moments and would have been a good book if it hadn’t been overshadowed by gross inner thoughts & racism.

"She’s got so much energy, and she uses it like a wild horse. But it’s not always under control. It gets away from her too easily. I get it. I’ve got my own demons to battle— particularly the ones noticing the silky softness of Sadie’s hand…"
“There are eight billion people on this planet, and you’re exactly what I need. Every part of you, exactly as you are. I don’t believe that’s just chance.”

This was a contemporary romance from Sophie Lark. Sparrow and Vine was a delightful and fun read. This sets up to be a great new series. The Beaumonts and the Sparrows have been feuding for years over the vineyard when both families discover that they're both about to lose it all. Sadie and Monroe decide that they can save the vineyard and Sadie's family's home since they live on the property by getting married. They're expecting both their families to be excited, only to be shocked when they see their family is not thrilled. However, Sadie and Monroe are not deterred. As they unite and start to work on saving Sparrow and Vine, they discover that they have more in common than they thought. What started as a marriage of convenience might bloss into more. Monroe's mom is determined to get Blossom and Vine instead of her son. After all, she was supposed to have the house and the vineyard she'd she was set to marry Sadie's dad, but then she left him for his best friend. She's determined to get it all back. Will she be successful? Sparrow and Vine hit all the right notes for me.

Ngl I got pulled violently out of the story twice: once when June, the middle Sparrow sister, talks about her wine production process being inspired by El*n (should come with a content warning or something considering the state of this country and the rage I feel whenever I see that name), and the other time when Monroe says: “I don’t want to sound ignorant, but shouldn’t there be a crew of people with questionable work visas picking these grapes for us?” Um I’m not sure what Lark was going for here/the intent behind this because, again, considering the state of current events in the US and what’s in the news, I found this super questionable.

I did, in fact, finish this book though and tried to ignore those things because I liked the premise of the story and the setup, and I liked Sadie with all her insecurities and people pleasing tendencies. I even mostly liked Monroe (beyond that one quote that made me stop for a few minutes…) because of how much he liked Sadie without even being aware of it at first. They were cute together, and the dedication made me push through because I wanted to see them find their own home in each other.

However, I also feel like this fell a little flat for me; we’re told a lot of things rather than being shown them in the sense that we learn about Sadie and Monroe mainly by them telling each other things that happened in the past and things they felt. I feel like the character depth suffered in that regard; it also felt a bit insta-lovey because of that. Honestly some of the writing felt a little bit like it was trying too hard to be sweeping and romantic to the point of getting repetitive. I’m a hopeless romantic but even I was getting a bit tired in the latter chapters of them going on about the same points lol. I think I was missing a bit of that connection, the spark, or I wouldn’t have minded it that much. I also hated the other Beaumont brothers (Grayson especially lol what an ass) and didn’t learn enough about Sadie’s sisters to like them much either… I know there are going to be more books about them, but… I don’t care much because I don’t like them much.

I did like that the third act conflict (at least what I’m assuming it was supposed to be) was resolved in a way that showed Sadie’s character growth and her trust, since I did wonder if she was going to buy it. And it was really sweet, despite my issues with the rest of the book. And Monroe’s belief in Sadie and her belief in him was pretty adorable. I did like seeing them learn to open up to each other and get bolstered by the other’s support.

Not sure how to feel about this one still… those two things that pulled me out of the story really yanked me out and it never quite recovered. Need to think about the rating. *edit: been ruminating and decided that the number of reviews that completely ignore these questionable things is disturbing so uh I shouldn’t feel bad about rating this poorly because these are really the main things that have stuck with me in the two weeks since I read the book…

Quote from the MMC: “but shouldn’t there be a crew of people with questionable work visas picking these grapes for us?”
And the FMC's sister: “I was inspired by Elon Musk. I use his five-step design process.”
That's all I'm going to say.

This book is so different from the other Sophie Lark romance books I've read. Most have been dark romance but this was contemporary and very low stakes and angst to me. The fmc and the mmc have a marriage of convenience to save the fmc's winery while they navigate the family drama and the marriage that wasn't. It was a cute read but I did want more angst and chemistry with the romance. Overall an okay read. Thank you to the publisher for an arc for an honest review.

ARC read - Releases April 2025. Thank you NetGalley!

Contemporary romance, two rival families at war over a vineyard named “Sparrow and Vine”. A contract marriage in order to inherit the winery and save it. Sadie Sparrow and her sisters run the vineyard that their grandfather and his best friend started years ago. Their grandfather and his best friend made a deal for the vineyard to be inherited by their children upon their marriage. But when the Sparrow-Beaumont wedding went up in flames and scandal years before, the vineyard is now at risk of not being inherited by either family. Until Monroe Beaumont finds a loophole. The contract never stated which family members had to marry. So he convinces Sadie to get married in order to get ownership of the vineyard. But not everyone is happy about this, so the plot thickens and the sabotage begins.

This is different from her dark romance books, very green flag cozy romance. I found it lacked a little depth and character. I just didn’t strongly connect to the story and our main characters and their love story. Good writing per usual, not my favourite of her works.

Well this is a fun series setup.

Sadie x Monroe 💕
Rival families
Romeo x Juliet vibes
Marriage of convenience
Winery/vineyard
Little mystery (that I feel is going to woven through the two other books)
Hockey boy

This was not what I was expecting! But it was cute and kept me reading.
I like the other siblings having very different personalities.

DNF @53%. I just couldn't get myself to finish this book. Nothing was really captivating me. I wasn't the biggest fan of Sadie and Monroe. I felt like their characters were one-dimensional, especially Monroe. It seemed like all of Monroe's personality was being a hockey player. Although the chemistry was there (at some points), I didn't feel invested in Monroe and Sadie's relationship. I wanted it to be more layered. I thought the writing was a little weak. IMO, the story felt like a rough draft. I was not a fan of one of the author's lines: "shouldn't there be a crew of people with questionable work visas picking these grapes for us?". That did not sit well with me. The family side characters felt a little stereotypical. Despite that, I did find myself being more intrigued by Sadie's sisters and Monroe's brothers compared to the actual main couple. I'm not sure if I would give this author another reading chance. Thank you to NetGalley and Bloom Books for the ARC.

Oh I loved Sadie & Monroe!! This was the perfect read for a chilled out Sunday, I loved it. I was laughing in the first chapter and just knew this was a going to be a great book.
Really enjoyed this writing style and the dual pov. All the characters kept me hooked and I can’t wait to continue with some of the other characters in this series.

3.5 rounded up!

This was my first Sophie Lark book! Overall thought the book was a good read, but lacked any compelling moments for me at least. Both Monroe and Sadie are fairly levelheaded MC's working towards one mutual goal with rival families. I kept waiting for some big plot twist or third act break up, but none. Which is fine!

If you are looking for a sweet simple story with some Romeo and Juliet vibes, this would be the book for you.

Thank you, NetGalley for my copy of an e-Arc!

Rating: 3.5⭐️

This was such a fun read and a great start to a brand new series by Sophie Lark.

The FMC Sadie was such a bright and joyful character. She always had an optimistic view on things and a positive attitude. However, she struggled with self-confidence and was constantly doubting herself and her abilities. Her family is known for their artistic talents, but Sadie doesn’t shine as much as her sisters when it comes to that or anything really. She feels like there is nothing special about her. This changes when she marries the MMC Monroe. He was always there to uplift her and believe in her when no one else does. It was great to see her come into her own throughout the story.

I loved the relationship between Monroe and Sadie. They communicated so well and were a united front no matter what. They defended and protected each other, especially in front of their feuding families. They developed feelings rather fast, but I feel like this is a common thing in the author’s books so it didn’t bother me too much. Sadie and Monroe also had a good partnership and foundation as friends that made up for it.

I also really liked how different Sadie and Monroe’s siblings were. They all had very distinct personalities and the author sprinkled some hints here and there about some potential future storylines which makes me very excited. My only issue with the book is that everything was pretty smooth sailing. The leads are at risk of losing their family vineyard, but it didn’t come off as a big stake. I was also expecting more family drama than what we actually got. But maybe this will be explored in later books.

Overall, I had a great time with this book and would recommend checking it out, especially if you’re a fan of her Brutal Birthright series.

First, I would like to thank NetGalley for the arc. But, all opinions are my own!

I am a Sophie Lark fan, well her Anastasia book specifically, so I was excited to give this a try. This one is hard for me to rate because I did find it entertaining some of the time, but I think there were also a lot of things that could have been done much better. I love the arranged/force marriage situation, but then the actual story didn't live up to my expectations.

I think the biggest issue is almost a lack of focus. Our MCs are faced with a million issues - an evil mother-in-law, an ailing grandfather, a failing winery (and all the legal issues re. the ownership), and super difficult sibling relationships. Then, on top of all that, we have this arranged/forced marriage between our FMCs. I can't give too much away but it felt like because there were so many random issues floating around that the story couldn't focus in and explore any of them in depth. Everything sort of stays surface level while our MCs are essentially playing house and hooking up.

The main relationship felt forced and again, lacked depth. While this was a slow burn, there wasn't any tension and I didn't feel the chemistry. I actually thought the tiny blips we see between our MC's brothers x the FMC's sisters (clearly will be the focus of future books) were far more promising than literally any other plotline we see in this one. I didn't fall in love with the MCs here, they were both fine but nothing special or unique (again the sibling characters were each 10x more interesting).

There were also a few random plot points that felt silly/frustrating, and overall I was kind of bored. So much could have been explored, instead we get pages and pages of the MCs sitting on their couch or cooking in their kitchen.

I will definitely read the next book, even the small teaser for the next book at the end of this drew me in.

This book was such a breath of fresh air with a side of crappy family. It's very rare that I come across a romance book that doesn't have some sort of break up or huge misunderstanding between the FMC and MMC so reading through this story took me by surprise when it didn't have it. The 2 characters were 100% goals and as always Sophie's writing style kept me engaged throughout the entire book. Can't wait for the next one.

4⭐️. I really enjoyed this one!! I was hesitant to read this both bc I thought anything I read immediately post rebel witch would be a colossal flop and because the last (and only other) book I’ve read by Sophie Lark was my lowest-rated book of my entire 2024 (it was grimstone and I hated it). BUT!!! this one redeemed her for me and it was super cute. About rival families in a romeo and juliet marriage of convenience type situation set over a vineyard in rhode island. full review to come on my feed whenever i eventually get back to posting in my feed again 😂🙃 recommend!

There’s something about a marriage of convenience that leads to a HEA, I love it. Sadie and Monroe were perfect for each other, their family history is complicated to the extreme and they needed each other. I loved the communication between them, it was such a sweet story.

Now Monroe’s brothers on the other hand got on my nerves, but Grayson has partially redeemed himself. Heath, we’re all looking at you.

PopPop and Lionel, brb I’m not emotional stable enough to handle their situations.

Sparrow and Vine is the first book in the Sparrow and Vine series written by Sophie Lark.

Publication date April 22, 2025

*Marriage of convenience
*Family rivals
*Forced proximity

This is my favorite Sophie Lark book to date!! Great new series featuring two feuding families that are trying to save their vineyard.

Monroe is an ex hockey player, Sadie is an ex artist. Together they have found love and a dream to save their families winery business, fighting the rivalry that was started by their parents.

No OM/OW drama, no third act breakup. Excellent communication between the main characters!

Chock-full of sweetness! This romance follows the fight between two families feuding over a vineyard, but the real juice is in the secret of why their respective parents called it quits before the day of their wedding thirty-odd years ago. Now two of their off-spring have hatched a plan to save the vineyard and solve both their problems by getting hitched themselves.

I found this silly and cute, in the way that Hallmark movies are adorable. Sadie’s love of coconut treats, snuggies, and 2000’s romcoms is definitely relatable to me. The characters are likable, even the surly ones, they just aren’t incredibly deep. It’s a very relaxing read. The author left some mysteries unsolved, so there is sure to be some intrigue left for book two. While I find the setup of likely paired couples a bit cheesy - no spoilers here - I would be interested to read the upcoming books to find out what happens! I enjoyed my time with Monroe and Sadie. They have each other’s backs in a way that is heart-warming. I’d give this book a rating of 3.6 and rounded to 4.

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC!

I have always been such a huge fan of Sophie Lark, and this book is the whole reason why. I think there is something to be said for healthy communication in romance books. There was so much of it here. The trust between Sadie and Monroe and how they worked constantly with each other, as opposed to against each other in their marriage of convenience. I absolutely adored the friendship between the two of them and how that blossomed into this gorgeous love story. The plot was also so easy to follow and I knew the goal from the very beginning of the story and it never strayed. I absolutely cannot wait for my paperback trophy to arrive and I also cannot wait for more from the rest of the family.

I absolutely LOVE this! I used to be all about dark romance, but lately, I've been leaning more towards softer, sweeter stories. When I saw that she had written a book with a softer tone, I was really intrigued, especially since I've read other books by her.

The romance is adorable and heartwarming, with just the right amount of sweetness—no over-the-top drama that could have made things heartbreaking. The writing is flawless, and the characters? I love them all! Now, I need the next book ASAP!

I love there is a playlist at the beginning since music is mentioned frequently!

I got a free ARC copy of this and my review is completely voluntary!

I already ordered this for my library collection so then my patrons can read it once it is released!

A nice breezy read by the always great writing of Sophie Lark. Sadie and her family are struggling to make ends meet with her families vineyard. A deep rooted family rivalry must come to an end to save the vineyard. Monroe is a great love interest, and I really enjoyed their story. Not really enemies to lovers, there wasn't a real rivalry between them but in the past and between their parents. Bonus, there was no third act breakup! I received an ARC through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Seriously though, this was such a cute read with just enough mystery and high stakes woven in that it really kept me engaged the entire time. Who doesn't love a marriage of convenience! Thank you to Netgalley for this ARC. I was so excited to get Sophie Lark new book!

I loved this book - it had me hooked from the start. This is the start of a Trilogy and Sophie Lark has laid a lot of groundwork for the next two books in this series. I had so many highlights

Sparrow and Vine follows Monroe Beaumont and Sadie Sparrow.

The story starts explaining the background of these two feuding families. Sadie’s grandfather, Ansel, and Monroe’s grandfather, Lionel were best friends and very successful business partners for years. They co-owned Sparrow and Vine - a winery and successful wine company. There only children Sabine (Lionel Daughter ) and Caleb (Ansel Son) were set to inherit everything- the wine, the business, the land, the awards, the label, the whole kit which was perfect as they were set to marriage in a huge wedding. That was until they got into got in a huge fight that nobody wants to talk about and never actually got married. The Sabine , ran off and married Caleb best friend Royce Hoffman. This caused a huge rift between the families. Then after Caleb and Sabine both ending having three children, who are all apart of the complicated inheritance which without the wedding that never was - Sparrow and Vine would be divided up and sold off.

In this ironclad contract of inheritance - it says that there should be a marriage between the two families but didn't state between whom. This is where Monroe comes up with the an ideal of a legal loophole - of marrying a Sparrow sister so they don't lose Sparrow and Vine now both their Grandads are not well. Sadie and Monroe are both the youngest in these complicated families and have known of each other their whole lives and both love this winery.

What started as a marriage of convenience soon blossom into a beautiful friendship and slow burn romance. The way that they both saw the other and loved them was heartwarming. I am so ready for more from this world and uncovering secrets.

Some of my favourite quotes from Monroe and Sadie :

She lifts her head, locking our eyes. The smile that bursts across her face is exactly as I pictured it—unrestrained and elated. Nobody’s ever looked that happy to see me before. And we’ve only been separated five minutes. I’m grinning back at her, just as happy, just as foolish.

Monroe is kind. He’s a protector. He likes to teach; he likes to help. And he cares about me deeply and truly, has shown me that again and again—when he comforts me, when he builds me up, when he keeps his promises to me, when he works beside me all day long and holds me in his arms all night. Every time he smiles at me, I see the truth in his eyes. Eyes don’t lie. They can’t; it’s impossible. They’re not just a window but a door to the soul. I look into Monroe’s eyes, and I drown in the goodness he feels for me, in the love I feel in return.

“Don’t be sorry. You don’t have to be strong all the time. It’s okay to take a little comfort too. I want to give it to you. I want to be here for you like you are for me.”

Monroe says, “There are eight billion people on this planet, and you’re exactly what I need. Every part of you, exactly as you are. I don’t believe that’s just chance.”

Her smile bursts through, bright and brilliant. I think, She really is beautiful. Prettier than June, who looks like a cat that wants to gut me.

Goddamn, all these Sparrows are stubborn. I was hoping they’d be more like Sadie’s ex-boyfriends

Monroe is tall and terrible, facing her down. “That’s my wife. Say one more word about her, and I’ll throw you out of this house.”

Sadie blinks, pink coming into her cheeks. I don’t think she’s used to being complimented. And honestly, it’s shitty because Sadie would do anything for Sparrow and Vine. She is doing anything and everything she can to save it. Including marrying me.

Even the movie she picked was better than I expected, and it seemed ten times funnier from how hard she was laughing. Sadie has a warmth that’s infectious, an optimism I can’t seem to resist.

Some notes for the future books:

On the Sparrow side, three daughters: Hazel, June, and me. On the Beaumont side, three sons: Heath, Grayson, and Monroe.

The upshot is this: my grandfather, Ansel, and Monroe’s grandfather, Lionel, put the whole of Sparrow and Vine—the wine, the business, the land, the awards, the label, the whole kit and caboodle—into a package to give to their offspring, Caleb and Sabine. But those two darlings, lights of their fathers’ lives, got in a huge fight that nobody wants to talk about and never actually got married. Now, they fucking hate each other—that’s why they’re sitting on opposite sides of this room. Worse still, they roped other people into this miasma of misery—in Sabine’s case, several other people—and created additional offspring to complicate the matter of inheritance.

I turn around again and stare at the fire, deep in thought. Hazel and Heath, Heath and Hazel… Caleb and Sabine… Lionel and Ansel… The web spirals outward, glittering with
victims. My father and mother… PopPop and Grandma… Secrets and lies, betrayal and heartache… So many mysteries before my time. What am I missing? What happened? What’s the real story?

Notes between Grayson and June:
Gray stares at her, lost for words—something I’ve never observed before. Grayson Beaumont would argue with god in the Garden of Eden. June’s ability to distract and confuse occasionally comes in handy. The moment has shifted, and now there’s nothing to do but take our seats.

“You again,” she says to Grayson in place of a greeting. His lip curls. “You thought I would quit?” “I don’t think about you at all,” she says, picking up her basket. Grayson goes rigid, and for a second time, he has nothing to say. Also, I think my sister just told a lie. For June, that’s a rare occurrence.
Gray’s proud of the fact that he’s descended from royalty, but he loathes his father and any reminder of a time when he was weak and vulnerable and ruthlessly terrorized by his six older half siblings. Our scuffles are a pat on the back compared to that pack of royal psychopaths.

None of us know for sure when PopPop started to go nuts. He was always the eccentric artist type, but eventually it tipped into something uncontrollable. We heard about it when he set Hill House on fire. You can still see which side was blackened, and there are rumors that June was burned. I haven’t seen any obvious scars, but she no longer lives in Hill House.

Notes between Hazel and Heath:

He’s determinedly not looking at us as we enter the room. But when Hazel walks in, he can’t help himself. He lifts his head, their eyes meet, and Heath’s expression darkens. I glance back at Hazel, who’s so pale there’s barely any pink left in her lips.

We all know that Heath hates his father most of all. Royce Hoffman has been obsessed with our mother for longer than any of us have been alive, and he’s done everything he can to make her life miserable since she divorced him.

Hazel projects a cool unattainability, a facade of perfection that she carefully cultivates. I can only suspect what damage lies beneath the surface, but I’m certain it’s there. Nobody tries that hard to seem flawless unless they’re concealing some serious cracks.

Hazel rarely appears in the photographs, probably because she was the default photographer. When present, she’s thin and reedy, her eyes taking up most of her face, solemn, hardly ever smiling. Except in one photograph where she looks about nineteen. In that picture, she’s beaming so radiantly that she looks like a completely different person. She’s not focused on the camera exactly, gazing at whoever is holding it.

“It was. Someone took out a loan six years ago.” “Who?”“It must have been Hazel or your father.” “For how much?” “Two hundred and forty-eight thousand.”

I’m too busy watching my brother and Hazel, analyzing their body language, trying to catch any glances between them. I’m certain my brother is blazing with jealousy, but he’s always been secretive, and he’s only gotten better at his Shaolin monk impression since he moved to Japan. Only the tiniest details give him away—the tension in his knuckles as he grips his knife. A flicker next to his eye when Dad tries to feed Hazel a cherry tomato off his fork. Hazel does not accept the cherry tomato. “No, thank you,” she says, dipping her head. “I’m…I’m getting full.” She’s moved her food around more than actually eaten it. I’m waiting to see if she looks up at Heath, but her eyes are glued to her plate. The tension between those two is driving me crazy. Does Heath have history with Hazel? Could he really keep that a secret all these years.

ARC REVIEW 3.5/5

This was a light, enjoyable read with a fresh take on the marriage of convenience trope. The winery setting was a nice touch, and I liked following Sadie’s journey toward confidence, with Monroe offering steady support. That said, I wanted more depth in their connection—the romance moved quickly and lacked some emotional build-up.

Despite this, it was still an entertaining read and a solid start to the series. Not my favourite from Lark, but a good pick if you’re in the mood for something low-stakes and sweet. Will definetly read the continuing books in this series.

Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC!

SOPHIE LARK IS SO BACK!

I have been really struggling with Sophie Lark books lately and was really losing hope, but this was the redemption I needed and I am so happy about it! I really do think that Sophie Lark excels most when she is writing characters with interconnected familial drama (like this book and like her amazing mafia books).

This follows Monroe and Sadie who come from rival families, they both have aging/dying old family members and that is about to cause some chaos and drama. The two decide to get married (love a fun little marriage of convenience moment) in order to avoid a whole lot of drama while also causing a whole lot of drama. It is very fun.

I cannot wait for the rest of this series and will FOR SURE be reading it. And it is looking like it's going to be another interconnected series like her mafia book, so I'm extra excited for that. I would definitely recommend this to the Sophie Lark girlies and the marriage of convenience girlies and just all the reader girlies. I really did have so much fun reading this and am so glad to fall back in love with Sophie Lark, her characters, her writing and her world.

Thanks to NetGalley for the e-ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review!
