Eleanor goes to work in Duke Edmund’s home as his niece’s governess. Not only has she captured little Rosie’s admiration, it seems Edmund can’t stop thinking about her either. Edmund and Eleanor both share the loss of a family member but Edmund even more so as he only has his niece left. And Rosie is just adorable. Edmund and Eleanor not only have the forbidden love trope happening but are both struggling with different issues. Eleanor with not feeling good enough from insults hurled at her in the past and Edmund is afraid to love again. I liked watching these two help each other and learn to open up and trust one another. I of course loved their relationship blossoming into romance. I also loved the butler Prumb and his knowing looks and eavesdropping. Also good Christian content. Overall, I enjoyed this story and I recommend!

A story that doesn’t just tell you about love, but shows you how faith and healing work together to make love possible? That’s something truly powerful. His Grace’s Governess strikes that balance beautifully, with Eleanor Clairbridge’s quiet strength and Edmund Colhampton’s brooding sorrow providing the backdrop for a romance that’s as much about personal redemption as it is about falling in love.

What really hit me in this story was how both characters carried their pain and slowly allowed healing to touch those broken places. The way Eleanor faced her past, even as she hid secrets and braced herself against love, felt real. Her struggle was tangible, yet her resilience and quiet faith were equally powerful. I could sense that inner conflict in every moment where she prayed or wrestled with her own doubts. Eleanor prayed: “Dear God, please grant me strength to see me through these difficult times. I must help Mama. I must remain dedicated and determined. For my sake and hers.” Those prayers were as much a reflection of her internal battle as they were an example of trusting God in the hard seasons.

Let’s not forget the heart-soaked truth in Eleanor’s moment when her heart lifted, and she thanked God. This was the miracle they had been praying for. In that line, there’s so much more than a simple prayer—it’s a reminder that God is always listening to His followers, He is sovereign and miracles often come in unexpected ways.

The author beautifully intertwined faith with the characters' growth. Their journeys with God shaped their hearts and actions, and it was that growth that defined their relationship. Their internal struggles and moments of surrender felt like invitations for the reader to examine their own relationship with faith and love.

It’s not every day I encounter a story that so seamlessly combines romance with a deep dive into Christian themes. It was like walking alongside two people who were learning to trust God’s timing and to embrace love when they thought they were unworthy of it.

As the characters confronted their own fears, I found myself reflecting on my own fears, questioning how often I run from what God is calling me to because of my insecurities or past hurt. This book encouraged me to lean into even more on God and to examine the ways He is working in my life.

If you’re someone who appreciates a love story where faith is just as central as the romance itself, where characters feel real in their doubts and their growth, and where the power of prayer and God’s timing stands front and center, then this is a book for you. It’s a reminder that healing—whether from heartbreak or self-doubt—often happens when we least expect it, and that love is both a gift and a journey.

This was a delightful, sweet read! It was a bit of a slow start for me, but it didn't take long at all to get so hard to put down. 🥰

I always love a regency with governess's in it, it always makes me think of Jane Eyre, which is a big favorite! And I loved how this one took a different twist on it, Eleanor being treated like an equal instead of a lower class person. Her devotion to Rose was so sweet to watch, becoming a role model in her life. 🩷

Edward's past that he fought through was really inspiring, learning that it's best to open up and not hide away in it. And how he finally let Eleanor in by the end, it brought the whole book together. 🩷

If you enjoy sweet, clean regency books, then I recommend this one! 💕

Don’t let fear rob you of life!

This is a new author to me, and though I was hesitant about the story based on its genre, I’m glad I read the novel. Regency is not usually my reading entertainment; the titles, stations, and classes get muddled on me, and the rude and snobbish behavior gets on my nerves. BUT this novel was refreshing in that the characters step out of that box and see others for who God made them to be, not who society says they must be.

Edmund and Eleanor both must face theirs fears of pain, loss, failure, and inadequacy. Once they do, their present and future look wonderful and happy. Little Rosie is adorable and Edmund’s staff makes me smile.

The writing style was easy to read and the story flowed well together. I would definitely read another novel from this author. I received a complimentary copy and these are my voluntary and honest opinions. I was not required to leave a positive review.

I do love myself a good love story once in a while, and have a soft spot for the historical ones. But honestly, this one was excessively to the point of being obnoxious and cloying.
The characters were overly dramatic and overly everything - the plot was thin, everything too neat and too perfect timing/what an utter coincidence 🥴

So much potential and I am excited for future works.

This is the author's first published novel and it comes across.

What I believe needed more work
There is a healthy weightiness that one gets from reading books from more seasoned writers. This weight in scenes is usually what draws a reader into the lives of each character and has you empathizing with what they are going through. A lot of important scenes in this book were missing this element. But every now and then the author kept adding said weight to some of the chapters so I couldn't resist and kept going.

Supporting characters are a tad hastily introduced. They are not smoothly and organically brought in to the story but feel a little forced in their introduction. Then once brought in they felt more like "Villager B" than secondary characters who are truly a part of the main characters' lives. If they were more fleshed out and more involved in the goings on of the story it would have been quite an engrossing and transporting journey by far.

What I loved.
The English is beautiful. The writer allows you to feel as though you have stepped back in time. I loved seeing this. Many period authors of today seem to not put enough period charm in their wording and it always breaks my heart. So I appreciate this budding author putting good effort in this aspect.

This is a gentle book where the characters are working to heal from hurts and traumas of the past. And so it is the type of story that hugs and heals. The characters are also so kind and warm--for the most part. There are some unsavoury types, of course, but that is simply in order to make the others' loveliness more apparent as we journey through the story.

When a clean romance writer writes intimacy of the heart moments between the love interests so beautifully it turns you into a puddle of your own tears from the sheer heart melting loveliness I just must give her her flowers! 😭 There was this scene of vulnerability that had me 😭😭😭😍. I hope she does more of this particular element in her future works. When she did it was pure * chef's kiss * This book needed more of this in spades.

My final thoughts.
This was not a bad story. The bones of it had so much potential. But even though it wasn't what it could have been it was still a sweet, healing and warm book. The author's newness showed quite a bit but she did well enough for me to strongly believe that with more experience and exposure to work by more seasoned authors in the same genre (I would strongly recommend M. A Nichols because she writes phenomenal stories about love and healing in the same time period) she will become an amazing writer whose work I will excitedly be looking forward to each time she puts out something new. So please don't stop writing beautiful clean period romances ❤. I thoroughly look forward to supporting your future works.

I like to step out of my genre at times. This was one of those books that it was a new author and in the Regency era that I don’t read books in. All the high and mighty attitudes and the class order just makes my skin crawl. Wow, His Grace’s Governess didn’t disappoint. The story was written well and was heartfelt. It was a love story that faith and prayer was strong in the main characters. They had some hardships that they needed to let go of fear and remorse. I loved the story and characters so much that I will order the next book in the series.

Eleanor loss her father many years ago. What her mother and her didn’t know was that he left a lot of mounting bills. Eleanor wants nothing more than to keep her sick mother and the few devout helpers in the home. The house hasn’t seen good days in a long time. They have sold household items. Despite all of this Eleanor needs a job and soon. She has someone who wants to make her his wife. He is much older and not a good man.

Eleanor finds a job working as a governess in Duke Edmund’s home caring for his niece Rosie. Rosie was adorable and just melted my heart.

Edmund and Eleanor are still grieving and trying to deal with different issues. They both find themselves thinking about one another often. Sounds a bit corny when I write it but the author did a great job taking you into the Regency era and developing all the characters.

Ever since I watched The Sound of Music as a child, I’ve always wondered what it would be like to be a governess. This role is inspiring and rewarding, especially when it involves making a difference in a child’s life and serving a kind and humble hero!

𝐇𝐢𝐬 𝐆𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐞’𝐬 𝐆𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 is an oh-so-satisfying story set in the Regency period. This era holds so many unique qualities and hurdles to overcome, making a wonderful setting.

Eleanor and Edmund are the heart of the story. It is effortless to empathize with them and to root for their healing journey. And young Rosie, Edmund’s niece, is a delightful addition to the story.

The elements of faith, hope, healing, and love are my favorite components to any story, which are beautifully captured in this book. The romance is sweet, and the character growth makes my heart smile.

First Line: Eleanor fought back tears as she tore down the busy London side streets toward her townhouse, maid in tow.

"His Grace’s Governess" by Jackie Killelea is a Christian Historical Romance. Miss Eleanor Clairbridge, at five and twenty and resigned to a life without love, finds herself seeking employment as a governess. Dwindling finances threaten her family’s townhome, necessitating the decision.

Throughout the story, the author builds Eleanor’s backstory and how cruel words often have long-lasting consequences. Eleanor believes she has no actual worth based on such brutal words.

Edmund Colhampton, the Duke of Albemarle, refuses to search for a loving marriage after the tragic deaths of his parents, brother, and sister-in-law several years ago. He only allows himself his orphaned niece. His search for a governess for his niece results in Miss Eleanor Clairbridge coming to Ivy Grange Estate to educate his niece.

I love the dynamics between the characters. The book moves at a pace that will keep you reading. The ending provides the perfect conclusion to this book.

So, if you want a Christian Historical Romance, check out "His Grace’s Governess" by Jackie Killelea.

I received a complimentary copy of this book, but this in no way influenced my review. All opinions are my own.

My Thoughts

His Grace’s Governess is written by new to me author Jackie Killelea. This is book one in the Saving the Spinsters series. Ever since I’ve discovered Call the Midwife I find myself wanting to read more historic fiction set in London or England in General.

The author transported me back in time. Her descriptive writing had me feeling like when I closed my eyes, everything was unfolding around me. Eleanor is a likable character who obtains a job as a governess. She soon find herself at Duke Edmund’s home caring for his niece, Rosie.

Rosie is captivated by her, and it appears that she is not alone in feeling that way. The Duke also can’t get her off his mind. Both have some pain and baggage that they need to heal from. I love seeing characters carrying heavy burdens before surrendering all to God. It’s always a heart warming moment.

The book is well written. The storyline engaging. The author has done her research to bring this story to life. Thank you to the author, publisher and Celebrate Lit for allowing me to read a copy of this book. All thoughts are my own.

Favorite book this year so far!
Eleanor is trying to keep up appearances but she's mourning the loss of her father, their funds dwindling, their possessions being sold to pay what few staff remain, her mother growing frail, her self-esteem destroyed by an incident at a ball, and the loss of her family home may be the next thing to mourn because no one will hire her as a governess. Finally, an opportunity emerges, and she gathers all the confidence she has left and becomes a governess in the home of a handsome duke she had encountered once before. He's had an enormous amount of grief that makes him determined to be unattached except to his only remaining family, his niece who will completely steal your heart! An amazing story filled with friendships, burdens of the heart, grief, hope and a few villains from the Ton. The romance was very sweet and there is some light but genuine faith content that made me love it more.

This is a captivating story from the beginning. I enjoy how faith and personal growth of Elanor and Edmund progresses through the story. Little Rosie is a delight!

This is a new author to me, and I certainly look forward to reading more of her works.

This is a sweet Regency romance that provides all “the feels” readers of the genre expect. It is well written, especially for a debut novel.

The heroine, Eleanor Clairbridge, accepts that she must enter service to save her childhood home and provide for her mother after the death of her father. She secures a position as governess to the niece of Edmund Colhampton, the Duke of Albermarle. The arrangement works to the advantage of all parties, despite the mutual attraction between Eleanor and Edmund. Besides the unequal social status, Eleanor’s lack of self- confidence and Edmund’s unwillingness to risk his heart keep them apart.

A delightful read

This is a sweet Regency romance. He is a hurting duke. She is a gentle governess. Add in an adorable niece, and this was a pleasure to read. I especially liked all the times they are together, getting to know each other and becoming friends before they fall in love.

This makes for a rewarding read.

What an absolutely delightful book!

The cover is what drew me to pick it up but the story is why I looked forward again and again to settling in to read more.

A very well paced book that neither sagged or ran away so quickly that I was unable to follow the details.
The description of the gardens was delightful and I found the story rich with details.
I confess that I already went back to grab the next in the series before I had finished the last chapters of this book. I feel that says a great deal about the caliber of the author herself!

A sweet historical romance with a Pride and Prejudice feel

Killelea pens a memorable sweet romance with social stakes and enduring characters. Eleanor and Edward are a fabulous pair, made for one another despite a few dumps in the road.

For readers who enjoy appointment and prejudice, clean sweet romance, with elements of a family pieced together despite great losses, His Grace's Governess is sure to please.

Tis better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all.

London, England in 1817 - a time when you either fit in with the Ton or you were shunned. For Eleanor Clairbridge the fact that she needed to find a job only added to the humiliation she felt when confronted with those who thought they were better than she. Finding a job as a governess was an answer to prayer, taking her away from all of it.

His Grace, Edmund Colhampton, Duke of Albermarle needed a governess for his young niece after the horrible accident that took the lives of the Duke’s parents as well as the parents of the young daughter. Feeling responsible for their deaths, he is struggling. Will Eleanor manage to bring peace to the home?

An early copy was received from the publisher and these thoughts are my own and were in no way solicited.

What does one do when raised as a gentlewoman but upon one’s father’s death finds that the finances are not what they were? Eleanor Clairbridge has found herself in just this position. She lives in the family’s townhome with her mother. She has economized much but their savings is dwindling. The only solution; apply and become a governess. She accepts a position for the niece of the Duke of Albemarle. Upon arrival, she discovers she has met the duke in London when he saved her from an accident.
Edmund Colhampton, the Duke of Albemarle, is the guardian of his brother’s daughter. His parents, brother and sister-in-law were killed in a carriage accident. Little Rose is the only family Edmund has left. Edmund cannot get the young lady he rescued out of his mind. Once Eleanor arrives and this discovery is made that they have, indeed, already met, Edmund is determined to know her more.
Both have secrets hidden that gives them pause in opening up to anyone. Eleanor loves her job and Rose but finds herself drawn to Edmund but realizes he is in a circle of society above her standing. Edmund battling with his loss determines to never love anyone; however, he finds himself seeking out Rose’s governess any chance he is able.
This is the first of a series so I am looking forward to the next installment. The series name is a bit cheesy but the story was top-notch.

A clean story. A baron’s daughter has to be come a governess following her father’s death to try and support her mother and herself and save their home. A lot friends in London had turned their back learning of the financial difficulties. She ends up working g for a Duke looking after his niece.
A pleasant story I felt some pieces were a little too co-incidental, such as her nemesis trying to be courted by the duke, and at the ball towards the end one of friends is attending. I also doubt Mr Phips would have been so blasé when visiting a duke. So not quite 5 stars but a nice gentle read.

I really wanted to love this book as Ms. Killelea is a talented writer, and the genre is one of my favorites, but I had to force myself to finish it. While I liked Edmund and Rosie, I intensely disliked Eleanor. I found her character to be too forward and presumptuous for the time period. It completely eclipsed my enjoyment of the story. I’ve read the next book in the series and really enjoyed it, but this one was a miss for me.

I love a good historical fiction novel. Especially when there is some suspense thrown in. Romance is always good as well. This novel has it all. The classic governess and lord of the manor falling in love, but of course, it’s forbidden and would never work out. The cute precocious and wonderful little girl who would love nothing more than them to be together. Oh and of course throw in society’s expectations. And each of them has secrets that they can’t share, etc.

I felt for Edmund. He’s a duke but his life is far from easy. He’s lost his whole family save his niece. How does one keep going from that? Obviously he does because he has his niece. But what about love?

Eleanor is an old maid. And now she’s working. Because otherwise she and her mother will lose their family home. But is that everything? What about the hidden secrets?

Both Eleanor and Edmund have secrets they are hiding. Eleanor’s cause her to keep her distance from Edmund even though secretly she is falling for him. As he also falls for her and strives to spend time with her she is going out of her way to stay away from him. It’s laughable!

This novel is wonderful. It’s decidedly Christian in the content and has nothing questionable. Rosie is a delight and just helps make the book. Eleanor is struggling but still such a good character as she tries to overcome voices from her past that linger in her head. And Edmund must decide if he’s going to try to allow himself to love again or not after he’s been burned.

I have voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from Celebrate Lit. All views expressed are only my honest opinion. I was not required to write a positive review nor was I compensated in any other way. All opinions expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the FTC regulations.

His Grace’s Governess by author Jackie Killelea is a Christian Regency Romance. This is book one in the Saving the Spinsters Series. I was immediately invested in the characters and the story. Once I had started this book, it was difficult to put it down. I was captivated and wanted to keep on reading.

Set in London, England in 1817, this is the stunning story of Eleanor Clairbridge. She has been unselfishly helping her mother after the death of her father, but now they need more money. Eleanor’s prayer is answered when she is hired as a governess for Duke of Albermarle, His Grace, Edmund Colhampton’s young niece, Rose.

I really liked the author’s style of writing. Twists and turns made the story exciting. Characters were lovable and realistic, but some were horribly mean and downright bullies. One of my favorites was young Rosie. She added humor and light. The butlers certainly showed how fond they were of their employers. All conversations sounded authentic to the time period. The descriptions took me to a time and place that I had never been, and allowed me to easily imagine it.

The message of Christian faith and love is delightfully woven throughout this beautiful novel. It was definitely demonstrated throughout the characters’ actions. This is a sigh worthy love story between two people carrying hurt from the past.

I highly recommend this mesmerizing story. It was entertaining and inspiring. A reader group would enjoy this as a selection. There is so much to discuss. It receives a 5 star rating from me. A copy was provided but these are my honest words.

Christian Historic Romance is a favorite genre of mine. His Grace's Governess by Jackie Killelea is the latest in this genre that I have read. It is Book 1 in the Saving the Spinnisters Series. Jackie Killelea is also a new to me author and I was excited to read a book from a new to me author.

I was reeled into the storyline from the very first chapter. The setting is London, England in 1817. The 2 main characters in this book are Eleanor Clairbridge and Edmund Colhampton, Duke of Albermarle. Eleo anor has taken a much needed job as a Governess. She hopes by taking this new job it will take her away from the frustations of life. The thing Eleanor wasn't anticipating was finding the Duke Edmund to be someone she could fall in love with. The Duke has hired Eleanor to take care of his niece, Rosie, who lost her parents in a tragic accident. I really LOVE how Eleanor and Duke Edmund realize rather quickly that they both have eyes for each other. They both have "baggage" from their past that must be uncovered and worked through if they want to have a relationship. The book was a great read and I truly LOVE that they trusted God to help them overcome obstacles. I really enjoyed seeing how they both had the interest of Rosie at heart throughout the book. The book is one of Faith, Trust and working through life. I HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Christian Historical Romance from the Regency Era. GREAT BOOK!

What a sweet and lovely romance this was. The story was one that I needed as I fell into the pages of Eleanor and Edmund's lives and their budding romantic relationship.

Both of these two have unimaginable pain of lost loved ones. Eleanor's pain revolves around her father and trying to keep her family home for her and her mother. They have hit financial hardship so Eleanor, twenty-five and believed to be past marrying, becomes a governess to a duke's niece. That duke is Edmund.

Edmund is the sole guardian of his niece after a terrible accident took the rest of his family away. Now intent on never loving again, as love hurts too much, he only wants to provide a wonderful life for his niece, Rose.

However, as these two hurting souls meet, their connection is strong and only grows as they become friends, and each one tries to hide their romantic feelings. What I liked about this novel was it really focused on these two. There were problems that did arise and needed to be dealt with, but the core of the book seemed to be about these two and finding love at last. His niece was such a sweetheart. It was nice to read a story with a well-behaved child.

I was provided a copy of this novel from the publisher. I was not required to post a positive review, and all views and opinions are my own.

I thoroughly enjoyed this historical novel by this author who is new to me! She had a way of bringing to life the way of Regency England that was refreshing. This isn't my favorite genre because it's usually bogged down with details that I don't really care for, but the author didn't do that. She kept things light and interesting while keeping the characters engaging and realistic. I especially enjoyed the darling niece, Rosie. She was delightful! Such mischief and sweetness at 6 years old!
Eleanor has had a tough life since her father died, and the author brought out that emotion through circumstances and dialogue. I appreciated that Eleanor was a strong woman, but she lacked self-confidence due to being told she was "lacking" by another woman earlier. This really did a number on her for a long time. Her childhood home is in ruins and her mother & the staff are suffering so she takes a job as a governess. As happens, she falls for the Duke but knows it won't go anywhere because of her station. I really liked the Duke (Edmond). He was opposite of what you'd think of someone in his position. He was kind and approachable. He also loves his niece fiercely but he's sad because he lost his whole family and she's the only one who's left. Eleanor is like a shining light to him when she comes to his family home to teach his niece. How can this work out??
